A black member of the DA in Tshwane said she wants apartheid back, the system that controlled black people with racist laws enshrining white supremacy. Olgar from Hammanskraal said the Tshwane CBD, which is governed by the DA, is dirty. She was speaking to SABC News as the DA launched its manifesto this weekend. She claimed to be part of the DA leadership in Tshwane. The legacy of apartheid continues to be prevalent in almost every corner of South Africa with economic and social inequality and the country ranked as one of the most unequal in the world. Black people bear the brunt of apartheid and colonialism. They have the highest unemployment rate among all the racial groups and are not able to afford private school education. When contacted, the DA said it was puzzled by the member's comments. The party said it would follow up and this article will be updated with its comments.

Mashaba says ANC is a 'curse', cannot coexist with a prosperous S Africa

ActionSA leader Herman Mashaba has told Polity that a prosperous South Africa and the African National Congress cannot coexist, labelling the ruling party as a "curse" and blaming it for "destroying our way of life" in an exclusive interview. Mashaba, whose party is preparing to contest the upcoming elections for the first time, warned that if the black youth, in particular, don't remove the ANC from government, it must accept the consequence that "South Africa is going to die" and become a failed State. ActionSA recently launched its election campaign at Mashaba's place of birth, in Hammanskraal, where he said it was disturbing to see that a place which was once a hive of business activity was now in poverty. When asked about ActionSA's election preparations, as the party has already launched Chairpersons in all nine provinces, Mashaba said going back home was a great decision as the people of Hammanskraal were "proud" that his launch had put his village on the map. Mashaba told Polity that he was pleased with the party's progress, with two of the nine provinces having their wards nearly reach the Electoral Commission of South Africa's requirements to be able to contest the upcoming elections. "We are not going to stop. Even next year we will continue to fill in the forms as it gives us personal contact with the voters. It is exciting as we have already announced four Premier candidates," he said. The party's remaining Premier candidates will be announced before the end of February. ActionSA is confident that before the elections it will have reached a minimum of 60% of wards with branches. Mashaba said although he was privileged, he was not prepared to leave the country for "greener pastures" and added that he would not keep quiet as he had an obligation to save the country from the ANC. ECONOMY AND ENERGY The ActionSA leader accused the ANC of deliberately closing factories in Hammanskaal, which he said was one of the biggest industrial areas in the country. He said businesses were now run by the ANC councillors who were allowing undocumented immigrants to "do as they please". Mashaba further claimed that ANC councillors had opened a floodgate of social disruptions and drug use in communities as people were unemployed. SOCIAL GRANTS Mashaba is promising South Africans a universal basic income stimulus package which will be more than the current R350, as he argues that no one can survive on such an amount. He said his party would introduce short-term interventions as the country deals with 54% of people living below the bread line, "but at the same time we will deal with draconian laws, opening factories where no union will ever have a veto right on our economic policies". Mashaba is adamant that once the number of social grant recipients is reduced owing to increased job opportunities, those who qualify for social grants will only be the elderly, disabled and the previously disadvantaged. He is mindful that the "mess created by the ANC" requires an intervention but his plan is to ensure that industrial spaces flourish and resuscitate the economy. ESKOM On the appointment of new Eskom CEO Dan Marokane, Mashaba told Polity that his success would depend on the political support he received. He said if the ANC leadership continued looting Eskom, Marokane was not going to do anything and would also not get the support of the criminal justice system. "I can assure you [in that case] he is going to fail. There is no way that you can run a business or Eskom where you have the hyenas waiting to steal and there are no consequences, therefore, he is going to fail. That is a fact of life. His success is going to depend on getting the political will and stopping criminals and the tenderpreneurs who are milking Eskom," Mashaba stated. If it comes into power, ActionSA is promising to run Eskom on a commercial basis while putting professional people in key positions and offering political support, "but we will ensure that we deal with t...

Challenges affecting our water include the amount available, the unequal distribution and access to clean water, the quality and state of water infrastructure, droughts causing towns to run dry and corruption that has affected municipal treatment plants, resulting in sewage flows into streets, rivers and groundwater. Vast areas in the rural parts of North West, Limpopo and Free State provinces and urban areas like Hammanskraal, Makhanda, Grabouw and Kimberley have perennial water issues that have left residents on an unending scramble for reliable and clean water. Despite these longstanding problems on access to clean drinking water, Water and Sanitation Minister Senzo Mchunu, speaking on Tuesday at this year's commemoration of Water Week, was adamant that the country has no water crisis but a lack of efficient management and skills to effectively run the available water resources.

She grew up in Hammanskraal, the last born of 7 siblings, raised by a single mother who worked as a domestic worker. When her mother retired she moved to Bronkhosrtpruit, in grade 12, she decided she wanted to be an interior designer but her parents said no, so she ended up studying internal auditing. She noticed that having an education and a career were not the way to financial freedom. When she fell pregnant she started to change her mindset and decided to build wealth. In April 2020, a coach introduced her to a Bigger Pockets book She started listening to the Property Magicians Podcast and hired a property coach in October 2020 and put in her first OTP in January 2021, by December 2021 she had 6 new properties. First property made a profit of R1200 per month in Sunnyside. Second property she was able to convert a 1.5 bedroom unit to a 4 bedroom unit and was able to make a R4,000 a month, on a property that she bought for R300,000. The sellers offered her the third property since she had bought the second property. She got 90% of the money from the bank to finance her properties; her savings were able to cover the down payment for the first 3 properties. For the fourth and fifth properties she worked overtime to make the money and then used that extra money to pay the 10% deposit and lawyer fees. She also sold her house and moved to a rental place because the expenses of maintaining a house and paying rates was very expensive. She plans on doing an AirBnB strategy and going commercial and moving into the salon industry.   >>>Click play to listen in   Books that have inspired Precious:   “Who moved my cheese” by Spencer Johnson “The richest man in Babylon” by George Samuel Clason “Rental Property Investing” by Brandon Turner   Contact Precious Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/precious.dludlu.3

State recovers R111m stolen from UIF's Covid-19 relief scheme through forfeiture proceedings

The Gauteng High Court in Pretoria has declared that R111-million in the frozen bank accounts of Hammanskraal businessman Thabo Abel Simbini is forfeited to the State. The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) said the forfeiture order the court issued on Tuesday followed a successful preservation order it obtained last year in terms of the Prevention of Organised Crime Act on the basis that the funds constituted the proceeds of crime. The NPA alleges that Simbini, through his business Impossible Services (Pty) Ltd, defrauded the UIF by claiming he had to lay off more than 6 000 employees because of Covid-19. "The unlawful activities were committed against the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) of the Department of Employment and Labour. An amount of R111-million that was intended for Covid-19 relief fund[ing] and individual claims not related to Covid-19 [were] fraudulently paid into [the] Impossible Services Pty Ltd FNB bank account belonging to Thabo Abel Simbini," the NPA said in a statement. Regional NPA spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana added, "After the funds were fraudulently paid into this account, Thabo Abel Simbini transferred the monies to several FNB bank accounts." On 13 November 2020, the Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC) issued intervention notices to various banks to temporarily "freeze" the funds implicated in the actions of Impossible Services to assist law-enforcement agencies with their process of possible recovery, according to the NPA. "This resulted in the AFU successfully obtaining [a] preservation order. The success of the application is directly related to the productive and professional working relationship that exists in the Fusion Centre between the FIC, DPCI (The Hawks), and other law enforcement agencies, as well as the Asset Forfeiture Unit," Mahanjana said. The NPA said the recovered funds would be paid back to the UIF. Simbini is facing charges of corruption in the matter before the Pretoria Specialised Commercial Crime Court. He was arrested in 2020 during an undercover operation by the Hawks. It is alleged that he tried to "bribe the UIF official for the release of the stolen funds. He paid the UIF official a bribe of R10 000 and was arrested [during] a sting operation by members of the DPCI". The matter was postponed to 1 February 2022.

This is a re-upload from 4 May 2020. Not that he needs an introduction, but Herman Mashaba is the former mayor of Johannesburg and a South African with a tremendously inspirational history. -- "Mashaba was brought up in near-poverty in GaRamotse in Hammanskraal, Gauteng, by his sisters while his absent domestic-worker mother worked to provide for the family. His older brother dropped out of school at 15, going from one unsubstantial job to another. Mashaba realised that acquiring an education would be crucial for him to break out of the cycle of poverty. He graduated from high school but did not complete his tertiary education. From a young age, he was a strategic thinker - he bought a car without having a license and drove out of the dealership without ever having learned to drive. He drove himself from one selling job to another, in the process confirming for himself that he was a natural salesman with an unswerving instinct for business." -- Basically, he grew up during an oppressive system in a broken home, and overcame all of that by not letting go of his belief in God, self worth, and family values. I'm not a fan of his current politics, but I am a fan of his story. Watch the conversation
