School can cause kids to feel nervous and stressed out, not just about schoolwork, but about friendships. Feeling left out of conversations, feeling lonely, hearing hurtful words, and unsure how to break out of the cycle of friendship struggles. In their devotional, Let's Be Friends: A Tween Devotional on Finding and Keeping Strong Friendships (Harvest House, October 2023), mother-daughter authors Blythe Daniel and Calyn Daniel, want to give girls tools. This interactive book helps girls know how to find true friends, how to leave friendships respectfully, and what friendship with God looks like."Sometimes we need a little time to see if the people around us are friends for us or may be friends for someone else. But sometimes the people we don't think will be a good friend can turn out to be a best friend if we just give them a chance to share who they are," says Calyn. It's hard for girls to know what to say when they face certain friends. Remaining respectful, standing up for themselves, leaving an unhealthy friend group, and making new friends when shy or unsure of yourself are areas addressed.Let's Be Friends contains 30 devotions with journaling space for the reader to share her responses, check off what's most important to her, a prayer to pray and words to speak over herself. Topics include fitting in, rejection, what friends show you about yourself, body confidence, when to walk away, taking your pain to God, thinking on God's word, and pressing on when life is hard.Calyn enjoys spending time with her friends and family, including older sister, Maris, and her twin brother, William. Calyn is a competitive gymnast, an oboist, and likes to cook. She has included some of her favorite recipes and activities to do with friends in her book. Calyn believes teen girls need to know who they are in Christ, how to navigate friend groups and how to not lose sight of who God has made them to be. Calyn Daniel and her mother Blythe Daniel want to help teen and tween girls find their voice in conversations with friends and develop friendships with others and with God. They have co-authored Let's Be Friends: A Tween Devotional on Finding and Keeping Strong Friendships.Learn more about the book at https://connectingheartsandconversations.comPlease share StoryJumpers with a friend if you enjoyed this episode. Kids experience unforgettable, action-packed adventures when they travel through the Imagination Station series. You know those tests kids take in the first grade? It's the first time they have to fill in a sheet of paper covered in little dots. So they put in Christian history and some good role models.Since she had been a professional writer and editor at Focus on the Family for more than a decade, she had a good idea how to start The Imagination Station book series. Paul McCusker was a producer and scriptwriter for Adventures in Odyssey, so he had a pretty good idea about how the Imagination Station should work.Marianne Hering lives in Colorado, a place where the natural beauty makes it difficult for her to stay indoors. But she stays inside to write books for kids and their families. And her son Lewis? Well, he's in college now learning to be a chemical engineer! He still likes numbers better than letters. Kids experience unforgettable, action-packed adventures when they travel through the Imagination Station series. You know those tests kids take in the first grade? It's the first time they have to fill in a sheet of paper covered in little dots. Well, when one of her twins took that test, author Marianne Hering found out that her son Lewis couldn't read.So along with a fellow parent and coworker—Paul McCusker—she dove into the world of historical fiction for kids. She wanted to create some stories that had action and adventure but were easy to read. And one last thing—they needed lasting value. But . . . he can read!Learn more about the Imagination Station book series at MarianneHering.comPlease share StoryJumpers with a friend if you enjoyed this episode. If you enjoy movies like National Treasure and Uncharted or mystery adventures like the Hardy Boys and Gary Paulsen's survival story, Hatchet, you'll love this first installment of the National Park Mystery Series.Aaron Johnson grew up on a farm in Ohio where he'd jump the fence to hike into the swamps, gullies, ravines, and gorges in a place they called The Deep Fields. He wrote his first book in second grade, and continued to write as a teenager. Then he became a high school and middle school teacher, and went on to work for twenty years in education. He's so grateful to bring his many passions together in this new life-chapter as an author: the outdoors, writing, the national parks, illustration, and his interest in fields of history, conservation, and the natural sciences. And he gets to squeeze my terrible dad- jokes into my stories. Their family lives in Colorado where Aaron spent over six months exploring and leading backpacking trips into Rocky Mountain National Park. That's why the adventure begins in RMNP, in the heart of a place that he thinks of as home. Aaron hopes your family not only enjoys these stories, but also develops a deeper affection for our national parks and the other wild places near you. But, being a voracious reader as a kid gave her a love for words (and working with middle-schoolers gave her a sense of humor). It seemed like a good idea to combine the two (words and humor) and voila, her first book was born. Truthfully, the first book was a fluke. She sat down to write a poem about Moses and ended up writing a fraction book about a cow. Who knew?It worked so well the first time, she has continued to try writing poetry and has ended up with a book each time! Ok. Not really. But, she does enjoy the writing process so much, that she kept with it and has enjoyed some success along the way.Learn more about her books and get a free ACTIVITY KIT when you visit her website at tarynsouders.com Please share StoryJumpers with a friend if you enjoyed this episode. Book four in the Tree Street Kids series: Something fishy is going on in Crooked Creek Woods. Does it have anything to do with the weird lights coming from Ruthie's neighbor's yard? Or are the kids' imaginations running away with them? After all, Jack and Ellison have been hard at work writing a mystery. The Tree Street Kids decide to investigate. Not only do they discover what's been hidden for centuries in the woods, they also learn about placing their trust in the adults who love and care for them . . . but not before placing themselves in peril.Adventures, friendships, and faith-testers . . . all under the watchful eye of a great big God.The Tree Street Kids live on Cherry, Oak, Maple, and Pine, but their 1990s suburban neighborhood is more than just quiet, tree-lined streets. Jack, Ellison, Roger, and Ruthie face challenges and find adventures in every creek and cul-de-sac—as well as God's great love in one small neighborhood. In the book series, set in the 1990s in the suburbs of Chicago, Amanda Cleary Eastep invites kids to be part of a group of friends who face challenges that don't extend too far beyond the borders of their neighborhood.By engaging readers' imaginations, her hope is that they will laugh, learn, and grow in their faith right along with the Tree Street Kids and their families. The opportunity for diverse friendships may not have been as common in the suburbs in the '90s as they are today, but Amanda wants to encourage kids, wherever they live, to be open to having friendships that reflect the diversity of the Creator.Amanda Cleary Eastep is not related to Beverly Cleary but wishes she were. She is, however, a children's writer, and the Tree Street Kids is her debut series. Amanda knows kids because she's still one at heart. When she is forced to act like an adult, she edits nonfiction books by grown-up authors.Amanda's children's writing has been published in Ladybug, The Friend, Sunday school curriculum, and at Story Warren. As a longtime writer, she's contributed to Christianity Today, Think Christian, and many other print and online publications. She is a member of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators, and she leads writing workshops at her local teen center.Learn more about her books at https://treestreetkids.comPlease share StoryJumpers with a friend if you enjoyed this episode.
