BTS will unsurprisingly score a new #1 this week, as the group's anthology release “Proof” will comfortably reign as America's top-performing album. According to Hits Daily Double, the album should generate 275-300K in total first week US units. Hits estimates that nearly 90% of the activity will come from traditional album sales, implying a figure in the 230-270K range. Should the projections hold, “Proof” would debut with the year's second-biggest sales total (after Harry Styles' “Harry's House” at 330K) and one of the top unit totals (after “Harry's House” at over 521K, and in the same range as Kendrick Lamar's “Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers,” 295K, and Bad Bunny's “Un Verano Sin Ti,” 274K) With time BTS has become one of the most popular K-Pop band in the world. The Army has only made sure the love for them spreads wide and more. This new feat for them is the example of their mass popularity. The anthology album had sold a total of 2.15 million copies as of 11 p.m. Friday, just 10 hours after it became available in the market, according to Hanteo Chart, a South Korean music chart, news agency Yonhap reported. source: https://www.koimoi.com/hollywood-news/bts-craze-is-unparalleled-their-new-album-proof-sells-over-2-million-copies-in-just-a-day/ https://headlineplanet.com/home/2022/06/11/bts-proof-projected-for-1-with-275-300k-total-us-units-big-sales-total/ --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/masseffect/support

Despite those damn delays, we are back with our half century episode and we kick things off by giving out our Report Card Rating on Kendrick Lamar's Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers album which had the whole world talking when it came out on the 13th. We also talk about the controversy surrounding the album with Kendrick bringing in Kodak Black to appear on the album due to his legal problems in the past and ask if he was right to be featured on Mr. Morale. After that, YSL gets in deep trouble with Young Thug and Gunna being arrested for conspiring to violate the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act, murder, armed robbery and participation in criminal street gang activity. With Young Thug being arrested and Gunna following suit a few days later, we give our thoughts on what comes next for both rappers and if their careers will be the same post RICO indictment. Later, 6 months after the Astroworld tragedy in Houston, Travis Scott made his first TV appearance by performing at the 2022 Billboard Music Awards in Vegas (May 15th). His new double-length album, Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers, is anything but a breezy victory lap. Lamar examines generational trauma, sexual politics, and his own attempts to grow amid high expectations and heavy introspection.

We told you so. The brothers are back this week and Razi is feeling himself because he called that Elon Musk's pullout game is strong. Byron is loving Kendrick Lamar's Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers even though it's not trapping. Razi goes on a tirade and talks about Musk, Crypto, and NFTs. He settles down to talk about Naomi Osaka and her new sports management agency. Ferg is tired of the trolls trolling. He talks about the casting for Percy Jackson and how dare they not cast everyone as white people. Sophie brings a banger and Ferg tries his hand at joke telling. Ferg gets first question and wants to know can allies disagree with a parties stance and still be allies. Razi wants to talk about the mouthpiece that someone has to have to convince people to overlook red flags. We discuss the prison break here in Alabama and the shenanigans that ensues. Finally Buff brings up the hate Issa Ray gets for being too close to Clarence from Eight Mile. He wants to know why do some discount her accomplishments since her life was too stable growing up. In a world where print media has seemed to have taken a hit, it is still imperative that we document our culture in physical form for historical purposes. The digital world moves so quickly that many pieces of history can be lost in the social media's news cycle or just simply edited over time. According 2 Hip-Hop has worked diligently to resolve this issue and the answer comes in the form of our Hip-Hop Yearbook. Hip-Hop history needs to be documented in real-time to highlight the entirety of Hip-Hop for the whole calendar year. Year by year we will document our history as we develop a library of Hip-Hop History that can always go back to our book collection and check out. With a start of a new decade, 2021 became perfect to start this tremendous journey. The yearbook includes Top 20 Hip-Hop Songs Of The Year, Top 20 Rap Verses Of The Year, Top 20 Hip-Hop Albums Of The Year, and more.Support the show
Nearly a year after Radiohead's Thom Yorke and Johnny Greenwood first teased The Smile, their side project with drummer Tom Skinner, the band's album is finally here. Indiecast hosts Steven Hyden and Ian Cohen dive into their album A Light For Attracting Attention (31:47), a title that can be taken ironically seeing as the side project garners far less attention than an official Radiohead release. After a fair amount of banter, Steven and Ian get into some of the relevant indie news from this week. Music discourse this week was mainly dominated by two very different album announcements: Kendrick Lamar's Mr. Morale And The Big Steppers (7:02) and the Jack Antonoff-produced Minions 2 soundtrack (2:20), which features groovy music by artists like Tame Impala and St. Vincent. In this week's Recommendation Corner (51:17), Steven plugs Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever's zippy guitar pop-filled album Endless Rooms. Meanwhile, Ian shouts out power pop band Hey, ily!New episodes of Indiecast drop every Friday. Listen to Episode 88 and subscribe wherever you get your podcasts.
