ré·su·mé [rez-oo-mey, rez-oo-mey] noun1. a summing up; summary. 2. a brief written account of personal, educational, and professional qualifications and experience, as that prepared by an applicant for a job. In Comic Reader Résumé, I use Mike's Amazing World of Comics to travel back through time via his virtual newsstand to the genesis point of my lifelong collecting of comics. From there, I can offer a “work history” of my fandom through my active purchasing of (relatively) new comic books beginning in January of 1982, when my interest in the medium went from sporadic and unformed to routine on through compulsive accumulation. To streamline the narrative and keep the subjects at least remotely contemporaneous, I will not generally be discussing what we call back issues: books bought long after their publication date. Sometimes, I will cover a book published on a given month that I picked up within a year or so that date, and I give myself an especially wide berth on this aspect in the first couple of “origins” episodes. We'll get more rigidly on point as my memories crystallize and my “hobby” spirals out of control into the defining characteristic of my life (eventually outpacing squalor and competing neuroses.) It's part personal biography, part industry history, and admittedly totally self-indulgent on my part. This episode includes Adventures of Superman #426, Alpha Flight #45, Amazing Spider-Man #286-287, Betty's Diary #6, Captain America #327-328, Classic X-Men #7, Cracked Magazine #226, D.P. 7 #5, Daredevil #241, The Demon #3, Fallen Angels #1, G.I. MIP Markets with Shawn Hackett Weather Patterns Set for Major Change in Late DecemberWeather patterns are setting to have a significant change heading into late December or early January. Shawn has been discussing this pattern for the past few months. The Western US will have a warmer, milder winter, while the Central and Eastern US will have a colder, wet winter. This could cause late frost issues for wheat and bring planting. In this episode of Believe, we delve into the chilling experiences of a Mobile security team member while patrolling the remote farming lands and Leard State Forest near the Pilliga. Late December marks the beginning of strange occurrences as the surroundings fall eerily silent, and an intense feeling of being watched overcomes them. Unsettled by the presence of an unknown entity, they encountered bipedal creatures with heavy footsteps on two separate occasions, deep in the darkness of the forest.Have a short story? Cloud Security News this week 14 Jan 2023 To read more about this week's stories head to https://cloudsecuritypodcast.tv/cloud-security-news/ Podcast Twitter - Cloud Security Podcast (@CloudSecPod) Instagram - Cloud Security News According to recent study published by IEEE which I found interesting (which is the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers around since 1963 apparently), “cloud computing (40%), 5G (38%), metaverse (37%), electric vehicles (EVs) (35%), and the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) (33%) will be the five most important areas of technology of 2023” Late December, a security engineer at CircleCI received an email notification about a potential attack on his CircleCI account thanks to an AWS CanaryToken placed by him. On Jan 4th, CircleCI advised to rotate any and all secrets stored in CircleCI and published a blog outlining the various ways to do it. AWS announced on 5 Jan 2023, that Amazon S3 will now automatically apply server-side encryption for each new object. This has been welcomed by AWS users as a good compliance tick and also would assist with those pesky S3 bucket breaches which are still all too common. Unit 42 researchers from Palo Alto Networks recently released a report about Automated Libra, the cloud threat actor behind the freejacking campaign PurpleUrchin, reporting that they had created more than 130,000 accounts on free or limited-use cloud platforms such as Heroku and GitHub. Google has released reports sharing that API endpoints are increasing under attack mostly (no surprises here) due to API misconfigurations. According to their reports, many companies are intending to expand their real-time monitoring of API servers and using (AI/ML) systems to better discover flaws and detect attacks.
Welcome to The Nonlinear Library, where we use Text-to-Speech software to convert the best writing from the Rationalist and EA communities into audio. This is: Things I carry almost every day, as of late December 2022, published by DanielFilan on December 30, 2022 on LessWrong. Here we see things I carry in my pockets regularly. To the left is my phone case, with two bandaids in it. This is a stand-in for the phone (a Pixel 6) that the phone case usually encases (I was busy taking photos with it). I keep two bandaids between the case and the phone in case I need one - which does sometimes happen. I find my phone useful for the normal things one uses a phone for. As of this year, I've started using it in lieu of a credit card, which feels very cool and 21st century. At the top right is a pocket constitution made by Legal Impact for Chickens. I received this at an Effective Altruism Global conference, during the career fair. What actually happened was that someone came up to the booth I was at holding the pocket constitution, I noted that it looked cool, and they were kind enough to offer it to me. Unfortunately, I have never knowingly met anybody from Legal Impact for Chickens. I have not actually used this pocket constitution, but I carry it anyway in my winter jacket's inner breast pocket since (a) it fits very unobtrusively and (b) it seems cool to carry around a pocket constitution. At the bottom right is my wallet, a Bellroy Slim Sleeve. I very much like the material it is made of: called “baida nylon”, it is pleasingly canvas-like. Unfortunately I do not know how to faithfully convey this to you via the internet, but you will have to take my word that this is one of my two favourite purchases in 2022, ranked by my tactile pleasure in interacting with it. Here we see the wallet open. On the left is my student ID card (with my COVID vaccine card tucked behind it out of sight), with a collection of folded bills tucked behind it. On the right is my Alcor membership card. Behind the right card is a tab that can be pulled to reveal more cards. As you can see, there are several cards stowed away: on top are emergency medical instructions if I am found dead, to prepare my head for cryogenic storage, and below that is: my WeWork card my health insurance card my public transit pass my state ID card, and my credit card. All in all, I like the way this wallet lets me store many cards with very little space. But this is not all that is in my wallet. Inside the bills, I have hidden away two items. The first is a Purell hand sanitizing wipe, useful when I touch something gross and want to disinfect it (or when something gross gets on my clothes). The second is an Eisenhower dollar coin - a Christmas gift for me this year, I like its size, heft, and image of an eagle landing on the moon with the Earth in the background, and plan to use it for flipping, scratching, and other coin-related needs. I also have a backpack. It is a 21L GoRuck GR1 in ‘Coyote brown'. I chose that colour rather than black, which I would normally choose, because for this line of backpacks the inside is the same colour as the outside, and I wanted black items of mine to be visible against the fabric of the backpack. I chose it because: it is only just large enough to hold all items I might use in a day (or take with me on a weekend getaway) while not being too large to stow underneath an aeroplane seat it appears to be made of sturdy materials with reliable stitching it does not have large amounts of pockets etc. that I do not use it opens top-to-bottom in a clamshell fashion it is waterproof enough for my purposes All in all, while it is a new purchase, I am tentatively satisfied with it. Here is a picture of it from the front, with high-vis features to avoid me being hit by a car at night. Here is a picture of its back. You can see a zippered back compartment: designed to hold laptops, unfortunately my laptop is too big for it. I instead keep paper and masks th...

Shaun Morash and Paul Dottino are in to break down the Giants and Colts tilt this weekend at MetLife Stadium on New Jersey. With a win, Big Blue will be all but in, and that has the One Giant Step Podcast sending out "Merry Clinch-mas" vibes to the Giants faithful. Ahead of this matchup the hosts do take a moment to appreciate how far this team has come over the first sixteen weeks, and the enormous value many young players have gained in Brian Daboll's first year at the helm. Paul then provides the injury updates for the roster, which include the return of Adoree Jackson which should prove critical in ensuring a Sunday win. Though it may come with a pitch count, Wink Martindale will welcome as his defensive front may just be hitting its stride at the right moment. As for the game... The Colts are a turnover machine that offer short-fields for opposing offenses. That said they do have a talented defensive front and at least some offense talent to make some noise. That being said, with the playoffs on the line a more talented and focused roster both Shaun and Paul see an easy victory that helps Big Blue earn their way into the NFC playoffs. Late December, lights shining in the darkness, with inspiring words from Andrew Brown and Gilbert Arzola.Support the show
Late December 2021 into mid 2022 has been an especially poignant phase for initiations and experiences that are in the harder harmonic of a Pluto experience. Beginning on solstice, punctuated with a volcanic ring, a node switch, conjunctions with Mars, Venus, and Mercury, Pluto has led us on quite the journey into the depths. Depths of ourselves, our societies, and in my case, the Universe. (I talked about all of that in pt.1: Pluto Planetary Power 2022 – Crow Medicine: Spirituality for the 21st Century (crow-medicine.com). As we move toward July 20 and Pluto at opposition, I come with good news. We are at a moment of birth. Do you feel that freshness and like something good is finally here? You are not crazy. It really is. This podcast celebrates it! In this podcast, I cover over a little bit about the grounding of all of this. What has that meant in real life terms? That many of us have encountered questions about our rights, autonomy, and freedom. The big stuff. We got to see where we (and others) sit. Most importantly, in that visibility, we got to sift. We saw things. We had experiences that may have felt quite sad and 'dark'. If you felt like that was a lot, it was. Big picture, this helps us prepare for seeing, doing, and expressing things in a more clear and pure harmonic. We are moving forward and the harmonic shift IS in effect. Well done everyone. We made it through ALL OF THAT. Ever wonder why I disappeared from the public? In this one, you get the story. Short answer: for ceremony and specifically, what I talk about in here. This morning we sit, December 27, 2021. The week of Christmas has brought an above average "heat wave" of sorts to us duck hunters here in Louisiana. We are in the duck blind this morning to see if we can close out December on a positive, but the abnormal temps have slowed the ducks as well as the hunters that pursue them.
In December of 1961, Sam Leach tried to get The Beatles a show in London. The results were disastrous. Meanwhile, Brian Epstein was setting up an official photo session for December 17 arranging an audition for The Beatles with Decca Records for January 1. We talk about it all in this week's Beatles60 podcast, Calling London. Merseyside promoter Sam Leach wasn't having much luck. He thought that it was about time for The Beatles to start playing shows in London, so he booked them to play at The Palais Ballroom in Aldershot, about 40 miles southwest of the city, on December 9, 1961. Everything went wrong. Their flyers had been torn down, a newspaper ad didn't appear in the paper, and no one showed up, not even Ivor Jay and the Jaywalkers, who were also supposed to play that night. It would be a rough one. Brian Epstein was having a bit more success in planning the career of The Beatles. He would set up the first official photo session for the group on December 17. Now there would be plenty of great promotional materials for him to give to promoters, agents, fans, and record labels. One of those labels, Decca Records, scheduled The Beatles to come to London for an audition on January 1, 1962. Big things were finally on the horizon… NOTE! We give you a nice long list of links for each episode. The links are almost as interesting as the podcast! Point of the Spear Special Presentation. Part Two of The Christmas Crossing. Late December 1776 – A ragged Continental army has now put an icy river between themselves and the pursing British army. The men in blue and buff uniforms have known nothing but defeat and had once again made a narrow escape while the Congress at Philadelphia reflecting no confidence in their troops prepare to evacuate to Baltimore. Washington's besieged men reflect the state of a nation weary of war and a cause on the brink of extinction. They are an army in waiting - waiting for ammunition, blankets and reinforcements. But others, nearly half, are simply waiting for their enlistments to be up on January 1, 1777. Within days Washington would have no men with which to fight and the cause and the dream of independence would be over. This is the backdrop of one of the most daring surprise attacks in American history - Washington's crossing of the Delaware and the subsequent victory at Trenton. Told in an urgent narrative style, Washington's Crossing: America's First D-Day, reveals the cast of characters and many untold aspects of the Crossing that made the victory even that much more incredible. The question posed to High Truths and Dr. Lev is “why do people use drugs?” To answer this question Dr. Lev interviews Robert, a young man who struggled with a deadly addiction to intravenous drugs while living on the streets. Be inspired by Robert’s journey from homeless and deadly. heroin addiction to becoming a straight A student in computer science. From Robert: My name is Robert. I was born in Spokane, Washington in 1988. I have three siblings; two older sisters and a twin brother who I consider my best friend. I grew up in in a rural area outside of my hometown, and my first job was at a ranch supply store. After high school, I worked as an automotive mechanic and battled several addictions. I've been to three different treatment centers, but only graduated from one. Late December of last year, I had a major infection caused by self-injection that required a total of six surgeries that kept me in the hospital for three months. Those surgeries left me with major scarring on my left arm, but they were also the final motivation I needed to put my life back together. I'm now a thirty-two year old freshman at Mesa College, studying to become a computer scientist. I have now been sober for 305 days as of this writing, and I've never been happier in my entire life.
