Leon Brown from Clark Fork Outfitters is back! A returning guest and seasoned hunting guide, Leon joins us once again to share another unforgettable story. This time it all starts with a successful hunt as his dad drops a great bull elk, but things quickly take a turn. After deciding to haul the elk out using an ATV, Leon is able to get down the top of the mountain to an old logging road. But when they realize the elk is too heavy to lift into the truck, Leon comes up with a fast (and slightly risky) plan to drive the elk-loaded ATV up a steep hill to try to match the trucks tailgate height. What happened next? Let's just say it involves a massive elk, a flipped ATV and our friend Leon.Clark Fork Outfitters: https://clarkforkoutfitters.com Hosted on Acast. When an 11-year-old girl named Sabrina Buie is found murdered, Henry McCollum and Leon Brown are brought in for questioning and eventually confess after long interrogations. They are 19 and 15-years old, respectively, and both have intellectual disabilities, with Leon Brown not even able to read his own signed confession. They are charged with rape and murder and are given the death penalty. Years go by and both men are adamant about their innocence. What evidence exists that ties them to the crime, and what evidence exists that can exonerate them? And if they didn't commit the crime, who did? Sentenced to death at 16, Brown became the youngest person on North Carolina's death row, and McCollum became North Carolina's longest-serving death row prisoner. Stay tuned toward the end for some statistics on wrongful convictions and a discussion about what wrongful convictions mean for the family of victims.Sources: 1) https://www.law.umich.edu/special/exoneration/Pages/casedetail.aspx?caseid=44932) https://deathpenaltyinfo.org/news/north-carolina-jury-awards-death-row-exonerees-henry-mccollum-and-leon-brown-75m-for-their-wrongful-capital-convictions3) https://nccadp.org/stories/henry-mccollum-leon-brown/4) https://ncpolicywatch.com/2022/11/02/court-of-appeals-backs-suspension-for-lawyer-who-swindled-wrongfully-convicted-black-men/ 5) https://wcsj.law.duke.edu/2021/10/event-recap-henry-mccollum-leon-brown-attorneys-talk-wrongful-convictions/ 6) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_McCollum_and_Leon_Brown 7) https://abc11.com/child-rape-murder-red-springs-1983-killed/293662/ 8) https://www.theroot.com/my-sister-s-convicted-killer-was-innocent-23-years-lat-1790877141 9) https://www.georgiainnocenceproject.org/2022/02/01/beneath-the-statistics-the-structural-and-systemic-causes-of-our-wrongful-conviction-problem/#:~:text=Studies%20estimate%20that%20between%204,result%20in%20a%20wrongful%20conviction.

In this episode, we're talking about the thing that the Brits like to talk about the most - the weather. But in this case, it's ocean weather and its importance to the Mayflower Autonomous Ship and other vessels. There's a really important feedback loop we discuss here: MAS needs solar to run but also detailed meteorological information to navigate safely. In turn, the ship is deepening our understanding of critical issues such as global warming - one of the planet's most critical challenges. The weather will be the single most important factor in determining MAS's success. Chris and Steve take a time out to do what every hound person loves to do and that’s simply to talk dogs. In this episode they take a look at the progress of the podcast since inception and discuss highlights of previous episodes. The upcoming benefit for injured houndsman and professional guide Leon Brown is discussed along with a recap of the recent visit with Freedom Hunters leaders Anthony Pace and Bud DePlatchett. Midway the podcast, Chris calls the customer service staff at Double U Hunting Supply to discuss how the company is able to get product into the hands of consumers so quickly and to announce a new tech support feature to the podcast involving Double U support staff. Chris reaches into the mailbag to field a question on breeding, sparking a conversation with Steve about the importance of really knowing the dogs in the pedigree or background before breeding that dog. The guys discuss inbreeding, the increasing interest in cross-breeding coonhounds and discuss a popular stud dog that may play a part in an increase in the practice. Steve offers his thoughts on family breeding hounds and the boys discuss several prominent players on the hound-hunting stage today. This is an episode for those wanting a break from the rat race to reflect on a variety of subjects that are important in a houndsman’s life.

Literary Loitering | Cultural Anarchy with Books and The Arts
We begin this episode with the shocking revelation that schools are teaching children to not only read classic literature, but to understand it as well. The surprises continue when we discover a surprising inclusion in an Indian children’s book about inspirational leaders, and that Beatrix Potter probably wouldn’t have been happy with the new Peter Rabbit movie. Then, after a brief interlude on Broadway for a “controversial” new production of To Kill a Mockingbird it’s off to Paris, France for some naked art tourism. Our featured books are The Universe and Me by Toria Garbutt followed by a bit of Sparring with Gil Kane: Debating the History and Aesthetics of Comics by Gil Kane and Gary Groth, after which Andrew got bored and moved on to post-apocalypses and zombies in Salvation City Chronicles by Leon Brown. Pastor Brown describes the kind of love that Jesus had for us when He went to the cross for us. His scripture passage for this message comes from John 15:13.
One of the scariest things we face is rejection. From the time we are young until we grow old, the fear of rejection effects our lives in significant ways. It's one thing to be rejected by people "out there," but it's all the more painful to be rejected by the ones closest to us. Listen in as our guest speaker, Rev. Leon Brown, teaches us how the gospel addresses our fear of rejection.
Host Andrew Dixon & Rapheal Skeete Rory Costello is a member of the Society for American Baseball Research (SABR). He lives in Brooklyn, New York. Rory has written many biographies of major-leaguers and other baseball figures for SABR's BioProject website. He has a lot of interests when it comes to choosing his subjects, but players from Latin American balla and the Caribbean are right up there at the top. SABR members have a variety of interests, and this is reflected in the diversity of its research committees. There are more than two dozen groups devoted to the study of a specific area related to the game — from Baseball and the Arts to Statistical Analysis to the Deadball Era to Women in Baseball. In addition, many SABR members meet formally and informally in regional chapters throughout the year and hundreds come together for the annual national convention, the organization's premier event. These meetings often include panel discussions with former major league players and research presentations by members. Oct 15, 1986: N.Y. Mets (7) at Houston (6), 16 inn.
