Sie gehört zur Mehrheit der jungen Menschen, die aus dem Eriz wegziehen. Im Bergdorf, gelegen am Fusse des Hohgant zwischen Thun und dem Emmental, leben heute 480 Personen, früher waren es deren 663. «Mein Grossvater hat den Betrieb in den 60er-Jahren gegründet. Nach meiner Lehre als Landmaschinenmechaniker haben mich meine Eltern angestellt. Über kurz oder lang werde ich die Schmitte übernehmen.» Remo Bühlmann arbeitet nicht nur mit seinen beiden Eltern zusammen, er wohnt auch immer noch im Elternhaus. Der 25-Jährige kann sich zwar durchaus vorstellen, auch mal wegzuziehen – wenn auch nicht weiter als nach Steffisburg – aber von Berufes wegen bloss für eine Weile. Zurück ins Eriz «Mit dem Töffli in den Ausgang war einfach nicht so cool. Ich war immer auf meine älteren Brüder angewiesen. Und so fing ich mit 15 Jahren in Bern eine Ausbildung an und habe das Eriz verlassen.» Dass Anita Spring wieder ländlich wohnen möchte, wenn sie Kinder hat, war für die 35-Jährige zwar klar. Aber dass sie ausgerechnet wieder ins Eriz zurückkehren würde, hätte sie nicht gedacht. Heute schätzt sie die Verbundenheit mit der Natur, die Tiere, den Fluss und den Skilift. Warum ziehen immer mehr Junge weg aus dem Dörfli? Was kann einen dazu bewegen, an einen Ort zurückzukehren, an dem man sich als Kind total unwohl gefühlt hat? Aber Liesi hat eine Idee, wie man anders Wasserski fahren kann: ohne Geld, aber mit einem starken Papa. (Eine Geschichte von Martina Wildner, erzählt von Herrn Braun in schwäbischer Mundart)

This recording was taken while ascending on a chair ski lift. The mountain is sparse, empty and still with no wind. The only sound is the machinery and distant voices of a few skiers. This was my first trip abroad in 2022 since the COVID-19 pandemic had struck the world. Recorded in Ortisei, Italy by Antek Rutczynski.

"I really liked the 'ka-chunk' sounds the ski lift makes as it goes over the uneven parts in the wires, kind of like the sounds trains make going over certain parts of the rails. I pulled one of these sounds out and built it into a longer, compound sound, then used it as one of the beats throughout the piece.  "I also used a lower-volume version of the entire long sample from Seceda Mountain, capturing occasional ski lift noises, but more, the air in the mountains — you can barely hear the air, but you can easily imagine that crisp, snowy, high-altitude feeling, so perhaps it comes though subconsciously!  "Otherwise, the other sounds were created with guitars and midi instruments, with a big influence of shoegaze and 80-90s shimmery etherial music."  Ortisei ski lift reimagined by Annie Smidt.
