Peter Rauhofer (April 29, 1965 - May 7, 2013) was an Austrian-American House producer, remixer and DJ. Peter was born in Wien (Vienna) and mainly lived in New York City. Peter first got his start as an A&R man for GIG Records. Since his first recording under his well known alias, Club 69, Peter had come to be one of the most in-demand remixers of the late 90's/2000's.Club 69 was one of the most popular alias of Peter Rauhofer in the 1990's. At first, Rauhofer used different aliases to release his music. 'Unique' (1991) was first released under the names Danube Dance (a name he took from a compilation project of the same name released on GiG Records), Unique (16) and Saxmachine. These projects all featured the vocals of Kim Cooper. In 1992, a remix of 'Unique' and the single 'Let Me Be Your Underwear' began to be played in Europe and in North America. Both tracks became instant club hits. He was famous for a variety of his remixes including Cher's "Believe" and a number of Madonna's songs including "Nothing Really Matters", "American Life", "Nothing Fails", "Nobody Knows Me", "Get Together", "Impressive Instant" and "4 Minutes", as well as her collaboration with Britney Spears, "Me Against the Music" and various collaborations with Janet Jackson ("Throb" and "Just A Little While" to name a few). He has also provided remixes for Kylie Minogue, Whitney Houston, Jessica Simpson, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Yoko Ono, Pink, Tori Amos, Pet Shop Boys, Depeche Mode, Yazoo, Frankie Goes To Hollywood, Book Of Love, Soft Cell, Duran Duran and Mariah Carey, among others. He was also behind the tribal house record label Star 69 and was a frequent producer of the label's releases. His style shifted from a house/tribal vibe to a more tribal/progressive feel with his later mixes. There wasn't a time in the late 1990s when one would go to a US club to hear many of his mixes playing through the speakers. Peter has also recorded material under the aliases, Saxmachine, Danube Dance, House Heroes and Size Queen. Peter once worked with Victor Calderone for The Collaboration project and once with the Pet Shop Boys for The Collaboration project. His remix credits are many and include: Depeche Mode, Madonna, Seal, Funky Green Dogs, Kylie Minogue, etc.Rauhofer spun throughout the United States. He was the former resident DJ at the weekly gay dance night held at the Roxy in New York, which closed its doors in 2007. Rauhofer was formerly the resident DJ of the gay dance party called "Work". His party was held weekly at the Stereo nightclub in New York until March 3, 2008 when the City invoked eminent domain and acquired the building. "Work" was a monthly event, despite lacking a permanent venue.Rauhofer was mostly known for spinning tribal house and continued to play many gay circuit party events, and was scheduled to play the ultimate events (White Party Palm Springs and One Mighty Weekend's Magic Journeys at Arabian Nights) prior to his falling ill in February 2013. The Collaboration was a dance music project created by Rauhofer. Rauhofer's first release as The Collaboration was "Do It Properly", a 1999 track produced with Victor Calderone, featuring Deborah Cooper on vocals. The Collaboration moniker was then used by Rauhofer on "Break 4 Love", a number one Hot Dance Music/Club Play hit featuring Pet Shop Boys.Peter Rauhofer (Club 69) won the Grammy Award in 2000 for Best Remixer of the Year for his remix of Cher's "Believe".On April 17, 2013, it was made public that Rauhofer was diagnosed with a brain tumor. A message was posted on his Facebook page by his friend and manager, Angelo Russo, informing friends and fans of the situation. On May 7, 2013, Peter Rauhofer passed away.HEAR THIS! Eric grew up as an only child in West Los Angeles. He loved going to the movies growing up and he made his own short films with kids from the neighborhood. His mom worked at a bank near 20th Century Fox and though one of her clients got Eric a set visit to The Towering Inferno on the day they blew up the building. It was an eye opening experience in many ways. He went on to attend UCLA for film school and earned a Master's degree where he made a complicated short film involving stop-motion monsters and live action. After school Eric worked as an intern for the camera union. The internship exposed him to all kinds of opportunities working for a short stint at Apogee and Universal Heartland which was doing work on the TV series Buck Rogers. He worked for a time at Doug Trumball's while they were working on Blade Runner. While there he met Rocco Gioffre who went off and started Dream Quest Images (with Scott Squires, Hoyt Yeatman, Fred Iguchi, Tom Hollister and Bob Hollister). They needed a matte cameraperson and Eric was the right fit for the job. He worked on Lost Boys, Scrooged and other films as VFX Supervisor. Peter Anderson, who Eric met on Buck Rogers, would up taking over as the head of Disney visual effects and he hired Eric to work on a 3D project called Magic Journeys for Epcot. Eric had always been fascinated with 3D and even build his own system for creating stereo imagery as a kid. With this gig he was off and running, solving unforeseen problems for production and on a successful trajectory. After working on Total Recall for Dream Quest, Eric was hired by ILM to come work as Supervisor on Hook for Steven Spielberg. Eric worked at ILM for fifteen years on some massive projects. Over the years he's worked with filmmakers like Spielberg, Michael Bay, Roland Emerich, Barry Sonnenfeld, Brian De Palma, Barry Levinson, James Cameron, and Frank Oz (to name a few). Eric's visual effects credits include; The Abyss, Total Recall, Hook, Disclosure, The Indian in the Cupboard, Men in Black, Wild Wild West, Pearl Harbor, The Island, A Series of Unfortunate Events, and many others. As Director he's made the films; Journey to the Center of the Earth and Yogi Bear. Eric's enthusiasm for filmmaking and visual effects is infectious. Along the way he's been helped by others and he's payed it forward for people he's worked with, promoting colleagues on films where he's been a key decision maker. It was great fun to talk to Eric and hear about his amazing career.
Welcome to Episode 68 of the RetroWDW Podcast: "Magic Journeys - We appreciate your support and hope you have been enjoying each and every episode. Be sure to check out some of our previous shows from over the years. We have visited multiple parks, resorts, and just about everything else in between. We hope you stick with us through 2021 as we bring you some great content that will take you back to WDW each month. Enjoy! Listener Mail Right to the mailbag this month! The bag is full and we love that! Every month, you can possibly get on the show, so be sure to write to us at podcast@retrowdw.com. Also, top-tier donors can even join us on a show! Take a look at how you can join us live on an episode. Our first letter is from Andy all about the Mannequins - he goes through this photo, explaining what each piece of hardware does. This is super helpful and also neat to look back; the system also included the classic 3.5" Floppy Disk! Going back to September, Jason sent us a tweet about his trip to WDW. So many good shots of the topics we have discussed over the years. Thanks, Jason! John touched base with us about the Mardi Gras parade items and props sitting in Port Orleans: French Quarter. Brian gives us the full story on this one and the connection is amazing. We also heard from Jacques, giving even more insight into this whole thing. Mr. Mardi Gras comes up and we love this back story. Thanks, everyone! We heard from Colleen on Instagram and she shared with us a super neat cup from Pleasure Island. These aren't very common to see anymore but we absolutely loved that you shared this with us! Dane wrote us about 'The Guide to Tomorrowland' - This was from way back in Episode 26: Tiny Bubbles. We included this item in our giveaway for the year - click here to read it! We got a letter from Carla regarding the Retro Food episode we recently did. She had quite a few corrections and insight into some restaurants in WDW. Phil wrote in about a friend who does high-profile celebrity security. Apparently, Tom Cruise used the services during a visit to WDW. This trip had many great stories and experiences, which Phil shared with us. Thank you so much Phil; this was great! Giveaway We have a copy of 'Walt Disney World: The First Decade' to send to one lucky winner. Send us an email with the subject line Decade to contest@retrowdw.com - we will pick a random winner from the entries to get this hardcover book from the 80s. Good Luck! Main Topic This month, we take you back to EPCOT Center and as far back as opening day. Magic Journeys: This is one of those short-lived attractions that most have not seen, but if you did, you get it. This was extremely high tech, advanced and the effort level that went into this is absolutely insane. Todd takes the lead, giving us a bit of history and why this whole thing came about. We hear from Murray Lerner, including original audio and interviews looking back at the creation of this film. Overall though, this film was intended to see the world through the eyes of a child. Of course, we get the technical reasons as to why 3D works and what is actually happening with your eyes. The 'how' of this film is something you really won't believe. Two whole years in the making with computer graphics, 75mm film, multiple frames on top of one another - the making of this film is a treasure trove of facts and figures. We also include clips from our interview with Mark Eades. He played a major role in creating this film, helping with the setup, and also was integral in making sure it worked. We also discuss the film made with the Dreamfinder, Ron Schneider. He goes into how they had to create a preview film all about Magic Journeys, just to have something in the theater for opening day. RetroMagic Fifty We have set our date for the next big Lake Buena Vista Historical Society event: RetroMagic 50. We will all be back at Walt Disney World in 2022 for this weekend-long event which takes place April 23-24. Please click the following link to sign up for ticket sale information and notifications. In the late 70’s Mark Eades found himself juggling an internship with Disney productions while also working nights at Autopia in Disneyland. But his work paid off and soon he found himself helping on a little film called Tron and then joining the editorial team for Epcot Center. For Epcot, Mark worked in post-production on such favorites as Magic Journeys, Universe of Energy, and the Golden Dreams segment of American Adventure, but that's just the beginning. Mark chats with Nathan about working with Jim Henson on Muppet Vision-3D, casting the voice of Rex for Star Tours, and working on one of the most beloved Universal Studio shows of all time - Terminator 2: 3D. The total experience. Three little words that have so much meaning, but are so often overlooked. When Guests visit location-based entertainment offerings, they usually know what they are going to get. Maybe rides, probably stores and restaurants, places to sit and places to walk, things to see and do, and always plenty of ways to be relieved of their hard earned cash. But the total experience isn’t just important at that scale, total experience needs to be considered on smaller and more macro levels. A ride can exist in a vacuum. Board the ride, ride the ride, leave the ride. But the truly great attractions, the ones that people remember, are the ones that provide the total experience. What would the Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey be without the expansive Hogwarts Queue or eclectic Filch’s shop at it’s coda? Sure, it’d be fun, but what takes Guests out of Florida, California, or Japan, and into the Scottish Highlands is the full immersion and the use of multiple elements to make a full entertainment composition. Let’s look at another way this was done. At the heart of Epcot Center, nestled sweetly near the threshold of Future World and World Showcase are beautiful and uniquely designed pyramids. These crystals of imagination are the home to a legendary extinct attraction, the original Journey into Imagination. While we’re certainly going to talk about that famous experience in a future talk, today, let’s look at how this pavilion was designed to provide the total experience. Much like a film, this attraction was not just designed to entertain riders, the very architecture itself is enticing and memorable. You’d be hard pressed to find a visitor who didn’t consider snapping a photo of these magnificent glass structures. It’s no wonder the original sponsor of the place was Kodak. Introducing you to the concept and exploration of the imagination was the original ride, a Journey into Imagination featuring your hosts Dreamfinder and his lovable purple dragon, Figment. Throughout your journey, Figment demonstrates all the ways you can use your imagination to create wondrous things. Music, literature, science, our little dragon friend was the perfect ambassador to the possible. But even at the end of the attraction, when Guests were feeling the drive to go out and create, this pavilion offers more. On the second floor lived the Image Works, a magnificent playground where Guests could let that imaginative momentum translate itself into real, tangible expressions of fancy. It would have been so easy to lead Guests through their fantastic voyage and set them loose in the park, but no, this total experience provided the appropriate coda to their trek. Reinforcing it still, Guests could then head over to the Magic Eye Theater, home to Magic Journeys, followed by Captain EO, finally hosting Honey, I Shrunk the Audience. Here, they could expand their inner eye and see images of wonder and whimsy. These three experiences together were not just an attraction or pavilion, they were a symphony, a complete expression of imaginative power and exploration. A visit to the Journey into Imagination Pavilion was an expedition all its own. Even the grounds were an extension of this adventure. Guests could meet Dreamfinder and Figment and play among dancing, jumping fountains. Among all of the opportunities for discovery and exploration the original Epcot Center cultivated, it was always good to know there was a little oasis for introspective exploration and fantastical fun ready to delight and entertain. It’s no mystery why upon the closure of the original attraction and Image Works there is such a nostalgic yearning for these experiences to return. There aren’t many documented cases of Guest fervor bringing back a beloved character, but the triumphant return of Figment stands as a testament to the power of imagination and, of course, the total experience.
This week, it's all about everyone's favorite dragon and his unfavorite attraction, Journey Into Your Imagination With Figment. After a brief history lesson, Jim brings to the table an attraction to both shame and celebrate the rest of Future World as he mocks as many attractions as possible before a grand (and miraculous) reveal. Then, Scottye misremembers the closing of the original attraction in 1998 as "sometime in the 90s" and makes even the Carousel Of Progress seem timely as he introduces the world to MC Fig (and his dope, dope rhymes). Note: There is at least some chance there will be no episode next week due to Scottye being trapped in a maternity ward. It might be next week, it'll probably be before the end of the season. We here at Opposite Attractions apologize in advance for his inability to keep his hands to himself nine or so months ago. Thank you.

Be sure to check out some of our previous shows. Corrections Eric wrote in, regarding the show 'Chance of the lifetime', which offered a million dollar prize. We stated it was 'Who Wants To Be A Millionaire', and we were clearly wrong. Thanks for the correction! We discussed this on Episode 43. The giant AT&T phone came up again, and the current phone number owner actually brought it up at a company meeting! Big shout-out to the Disney Vacation Club cast members who listen to the show and also to our friend who has the number. How also gives us some updates on the current status of the 20k submarines. We start off in 1988, discussing some of the special events to commemorate his 60th birthday. We examine some old artifacts and events that were done during this era. How moves into the way Birthdayland came to be and also tells us about a hidden gem in the book Todd is holding...Mickey is 60!We learn about how cheap Disney went for this land and what lasted and didn't last. Mickey was always a walk around character, so guests really wanted to meet him, but couldn't necessarily lock down a meet and greet. This land changed that forever and you'll hear about some trade secrets that still happen today. Todd entertains us with some music from the Birthdayland Express, which is absolutely amazing. The petting zoo concept comes up, Minnie Moo and the barn that is still there at Goofy's Barnstormer. Todd takes us through all of the changes the land has gone through as well. The fair concept is discussed, along with Donald's original boat. We also get into Bonkers, The Disney Afternoon and so much more.Happy Birthday to the legend himself, Mickey Mouse! Hope you have enjoyed this episode and also had a great time celebrating Mickey's birthday.

Email us to enter: podcast@retrowdw.com Main Topic Mission To Mars We have quite the episode lined up for you this month, and it posts in conjunction with an amazingly rare film we acquired as well. You are in for a real treat as we discuss Flight to the Moon & Mission to Mars. How takes us through the entire history and also lets us know he absolutely hated this ride... Looking back, we hear about the unique things that are actually happening throughout both rides. The origins of the show in Disneyland are discussed, which was titled Rocket to the Moon. TWA originally sponsored this, opening in 1955. The whole moon thing kind of lost excitement in Flight to the Moon, but before that, it did come to The Magic Kingdom. Mission to Mars came next, in 1975 and ran until 1981. We go into the various sponsorships of this attraction, all the way up to 1993. Mark, who regularly visits the Southern California Theme Park scene, to many, is known as the OC Register guy taking tons of pics and writing up lightning fast reports on the newest attraction, event or announcement; but he has an astounding history on working within the themed entertainment industry. Starting his journey at ground zero in Disneyland food service, to landing in Disney Studios/WED as a film/show producing workhorse: Magic Journeys, Living Seas, Star Tours, Muppet-Vision 3D, Golden Dream, etc., then ultimately reporting on the theme park scene in Orange County. Tons of early Disney Studios and WED talk, and a very revealing look at how Disney creative business worked in the eighties. Recorded at the Disneyland Hotel, March 31st, 2016, during the TEA Summit. The Mouse Castle Lounge Podcast: Disney News and Interviews, Cocktails and Conversations
In our last show, historian Sam Gennawey and journalist Mark Eades shared their thoughts about Disneyland's upcoming Star Wars Land expansion. We had some lively conversations and after the dust settled, Mark stuck around. He's back today to tell us about his fascinating career, not only in his current role as multimedia reporter with the Orange County Register, but also as a 20-plus year veteran at the Walt Disney Company. In 1972, Mark started out bussing tables at the River Belle Terrace at Disneyland before becoming a ride operator in Tomorrowland. After graduating from college, he interned at the Walt Disney Studios and eventually worked his way into WED Enterprises, later known as Walt Disney Imagineering. Mark had his hand in developing attractions for the openings of Epcot and Tokyo Disneyland, attractions that included Magic Journeys and Horizons. He worked on the Circle-Vision 360 film American Journeys for the Magic Kingdom and researched the use of motion simulators for what would become Star Tours. Mark left Disney and a few years after that, began working at the Orange County Register. He's now a multimedia reporter for the Register and Disneyland is his beat. Today, Mark shares with us what it was like to be inside Disney Imagineering and what you can learn by camping out on Main Street U.S.A. for an entire day. Mark Eades is Tim's guest today in The Mouse Castle Lounge. Enjoy! www.TheMouseCastle.comRSS Feed: http://themousecastle.libsyn.com/rss

(((HEADPHONES STRONGLY RECOMMENDED))) Episode theme: Journey Into Imagination Before we delve into this episode’s theme, we take in part three of three of a very special feature. Back in 2006, yours truly sat in on a Walt Disney World Audition Workshop. It was an intense couple of hours of enthusiastic performers needing a reality check and casting directors there to provide it, all in the spirit of better preparing those auditioning so they could earn one of the coveted performing spots. Whether you’re a performer a not, enjoy an inside glimpse at what it takes to audition for Walt Disney World. Next I’ll introduce you to Shawn and Katie, hosts of the popular, Waltcast. Next, learn about the history and rumored future of one of Epcot’s most beloved and missed attractions, Journey Into Imagination. Next, from D23s Destination D in May 2011, composer Richard Sherman is joined by none other than the Dreamfinder from the original Journey Into Imagination for a delightful sing-along. Then, from the Attraction Audio Archive we enjoy the full ride-through of the original Journey Into Imagination! In from the Vault we sample a clip from a classic Disney film, short, television or radio program, Disneyland Record. On Epcot Center’s opening day, October 1st1982, NBC Today Show hosted a live special covering opening day. Bryant Gumble was on hand to interview the one and only Dreamfinder, portrayed by Ron Schneider, and Imagineer Barry Braverman! Each show we present a high definition ride-through from a Disney Park East or a Disney Park West. This week take in a live version of the current version, Journey Into Imagination with Figment. I think you’ll find the comparison rather striking… and maybe just a little disappointing. But don’t take my word for it! Listen for yourself then join me on Facebook and post your comments! We close the show with song played in the other Imagination Pavilion attraction on opening day, the 3D film, Magic Journeys. Like One Little Spark, Makin’ Memories and Magic Journeys were written by the Sherman Brothers. Makin’ Memories was part of the pre-show to the film, and Magic Journeys served as the films theme music. Today, I'm joined with Chris Laning & his kid's Jamie & Paige, for a second time. We basically just discuss Disneyland, among other related things. Also, Nick is not here in this show. After the discussion, we listen to about 10 minutes of the Wonders of Life BGM loop. And a little bonus towards the end of that!
