Happy 2026! In this new occasional series "Famous Covers," we'll explore some of the most successful Beatles and solo artist covers from a wide range of musicians. The first entry features a 1975 double-sided single by Elton John, covering two John Lennon-penned songs - "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds" and "One Day At A Time." Elton stays largely faithful to the original recordings, but puts his own spin on the tracks. John Lennon himself contributed guitar and background vocals on Elton's version of "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds" and played guitar on "One Day At A Time." So which Elton John cover do we like better - his take on the psychedelic "Lucy In The Sky" or the more introspective "One Day At A Time?" Did you guys know the Beatles did drugs? IT'S RIGHT THERE IN THE TITLE, MAN, LSDDDDDDDD! Inspired by a drawing done by his son Julia, John's "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" is arguably the most psychedelic of Beatles psychedelic songs. But that trippiness overshadows brilliantly musical performances and inventive production. It's one of the high points of The Beatles and George Martin (and his team) being on the same wavelength, all pulling in the same direction. Lucy (and her parent album) may have lost a touch of its' shine among the common listener, but listen with fresh ears and be blown away all over again. Joining us this week is the always fantastic Jason Kruppa, host of the Producing the Beatles podcast, co-author of All Things Must Pass Away: Harrison, Clapton, and Other Assorted Love Songs. He was supposed to join us via Zoom a couple of weeks ago (during the now famous New Orleans snow storm) but the recording set up at RTB HQ couldn't handle the cold and died on us. So we had to reschedule once we got back up and running, so we were able to connect in person, which was much better! We chat with Jason about the brilliance of the Beatles' vocals, isolation videos, Crocs, the importance of the drummer, and so much. more! All isolations in this episode provided by Jason. Be sure to subscribe to Producing the Beatles! What do you think about "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" at #77? Too high? Too low? On this week's episode, Nathan, Chris, and Gita are joined by New Blood Interactive founder and Fallout expert Dave Oshry to talk about Amazon's new Fallout TV series, which just premiered. The general consensus: It's good! But it's also very Bethesda-era Fallout, heavily reliant on iconography and references (Stimpacks! Nuka Cola! The Junk Jet from Fallout 4!) in a way that can be distracting, bordering on nonsensical. Dave makes the great point, however, that Fallout embarked on this path even before Bethesda took the reins with Fallout 3, so perhaps things were always destined to end up here. We also discuss the evolution of Bethesda and the lessons the company will learn from Starfield (probably the wrong ones), and then later we – minus Dave – talk about how we all wound up in New York, The Big Apple, The Greatest City In The World, Baybee. Oh, and we recommend some movies. Credits - Hosts: Nathan Grayson, Chris Person, Gita Jackson, & special guest Dave Oshry - Podcast Production & Ads: Multitude - Subscribe to Aftermath!

Aaron Rodgers is a Jet now, which sounds like, “hey, that's the guy to rewrite the record books for this sad-sack franchise.” What's easy to forget is that Rodgers is going to turn 40 next season, and he's coming off a year in which the only Jets records he would have broken were starts (17) and completions (350).Aside from that? Rodgers has a lot of ex-Jets looking at his 2022 season and feeling pretty good about staying where they are on this graphic, except for the graphic needing to be edited to look better. You know what we mean. Anyway, feel the excitement! This is a public episode. Dr. Brian Pace is a lecturer who teaches Psychedelic Studies at The Ohio State University. He is trained as an evolutionary ecologist, specializing in phytochemistry, ethnobotany, and ecophysiology. He believes in grassroots drug decriminalization efforts and hopes to find alternative policies to the imperial drug war. For more than a decade, Brian has worked on agroecology and climate change. Dr. Nese Devenot is a Postdoctoral Associate at the Institute for Research in Sensing (or IRiS) at the University of Cincinnati; an Affiliate Scholar at the Center for Psychedelic Drug Research & Education at Ohio State University; and the Medicine, Society & Culture Research Fellow with Psymposia. She also researches and teaches bioethical approaches to psychedelic medicine. She was a Research Fellow with the New York University Psilocybin Cancer Anxiety Study, where she participated in the first qualitative study of patient experiences. Dr. Pace and Dr. Devenot are authors of a paper entitled “Right-Wing Psychedelia: Case Studies in Cultural Plasticity and Political Pluripotency,” a piece they created to rebut the common cultural assumption that psychedelics have the potential to improve society because of inherent characteristics that tend to point their users to a liberal, free-thinking ideology. in the discussion that follows, they suggest that psychedelics are non-specific amplifiers of their set and setting, which, they take pains to remind me, is within the capitalist realm, and that contrary to the de facto cultural credo, conservative, hierarchy based ideologies are quite able to withstand the face melting effects of a few hits of LSD. They speak about many cases where psychedelic users either remained authoritarian in their views or became conservatively radicalized after taking psychedelics. We also get into conservative thought leaders who happen to be psychedelic cheerleaders, like Jordan Peterson, as well as the moneyed individuals who are central players in the corporate psychedelic world, like Peter Thiel and Rebecca Mercer. I have taken the liberty of importing some clips that I found on YouTube of these famous folks up for discussion, in the hopes of better illustrating the points being made. Hope you enjoy. We had so much fun, we did it again, more song legends this week as we look at the supposed meanings of "Puff the Magic Dragon" and "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds". Then we finish it out with the greatest in Stoner Magic, the supposed syncing of Pink Floyd's classic album "Dark Side of the Moon" with the film Wizard of Oz.

We have a unique and enlightening interview for you for this month! This is the after show for Mostly Dead Things written by Brian C. Brown (Lucy In The Sky, About A Boy, Bad Monkey) and Jessica Lee Williamson (I'm Dying Up Here, F Is For Family) based on the book by Kristen Arnett. In this interview we discussed Brian and Jessica's experience as veteran storytellers from The Moth. The Moth is clearly an underused potential path to television writing. A path with no barrier to entry too! Jessica told us about a brilliant piece of conceptual art in Los Angeles that she was behind. We discussed the great state of Florida, adapting books into television shows, and so much more. Enjoy this one and thanks for listening! We'll see you next month! For more Dead Pilots Society episodes and information about our live shows, please subscribe to the podcast! We have a super fresh and well written pilot for you this month! It's called Mostly Dead Things written by Brian C. Brown (Lucy In The Sky, About A Boy, Bad Monkey) & Jessica Lee Williamson (I'm Dying Up Here, F Is For Family). After the death of their patriarch, a dysfunctional family of Florida taxidermists spirals out of control, coping with their loss through redneck love triangles, interspecies porn dioramas, and a bunch of cute squirrels stuffed full of narcotics. Briana and Jessica are both award-winning Moth storytellers. Their pilot Mostly Dead Things is based on Kristen Arnett's best-selling novel and it was sadly passed on by FX. Our cast for this one was special! We have Allison Tolman (Good Girls, Why Women Kill) as Jessa, Ritesh Rajan as Milo (Russian Doll), Cyrina Fiallo (Life In Pieces, Brooklyn 99) as Brynn Morton, Nicole Travolta (Anger Management) as Kendall, Marcus Bishop-Wright (Out Of Order!) as Whit, Lizzy Peet (How To Get Away With Murder) as Libby, Corey Ryan Forrester (Well Red Comedy) as Big Kid, Uly Schlesinger (Divorce) as Bastien and Andrew Reich with stage directions. Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/LaCienciaPop)
