Rumor: New online 2D Mario in the works Welcome back! It's another Tuesday, which means tonight there will be a new episode of the Spot Dodge Podcast exclusively on Destructoid. Topics: Tonight the crew discusses Mortal Shell launching on Switch, Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters coming to most consoles, and a new rumored 2D Mario game in the works! Zippo claimed last August that a new 2D Mario game is in the works and it'll have an art style that will “surprise” people. They also claimed it will feature online multiplayer. Lastly, this alleged new 2D Mario game will not be a part of the “New Super Mario Bros.” series. Fast-forward to now, Zippo returns with some new info about the alleged 2D Mario game. Apparently, Mario, Luigi, Peach, and Toad are all playable characters — the exact same lineup as in Super Mario Bros. 2 for NES. One thing is for sure, I really hope this claim about an art style that will “surprise” people is true. We've gotten four mainline 2D Mario games and one major expansion that used the “New Super Mario Bros.” art direction and it has been bland from the start. It's time for something new and exciting for 2D Mario, and a stylish new art direction is exactly what the series needs to spice things up. Hell, something along the lines of the fan-made Super Mario Flashback would be nice. On today's IGN The Fix: Games, A fan has just finished a colossal project inside Super Mario Maker 2 – spending seven years (across both Mario Maker games) creating an entire Mario game, which they've dubbed Super Mario Bros. 5: 0G9-XN4-FNF. Following three years of uncertainty, E3 is set to return in 2023 at the Los Angeles Convention Center for an in-person experience. A new Silent Hill game may be on its way, according to a Korean rating. Some have speculated that the title could allude to a playable teaser, not unlike PT, the last mainline Silent Hill release. What Nintendo system is the best? Well, thats easy, it's the Nintendo DS because it's the best selling Nintendo system ever with over 154 million units sold. Or maybe it's the Nintendo Switch because it's the best selling non dedicated handheld with almost 104 million in under five years. Maybe it's the NES, which brought gaming back from the brink of death and was likely many gamers first console. Although the NES sold 61.91, this was a system that was released in the mid 80's and the potential gaming audience is much wider now. Using an inflation calculator that would be roughly 159.21 million which would place the NES as the best selling Nintendo console of all time. The point is that to figuring out what Nintendo System is the best is like trying to figure out what is the best Legend of Zelda Game or what is the best Mario Game. There is no correct answer, because everyone has an opinion about which of these games is the best just like what Nintendo console was the best because that could be based on games, features, nostalgia or a combination of those ingredients and the great thing is there is no wrong answer.
