As off-season competitions continue to outsource training camps for their programming, it raises the question of whether there might be an unfair bias when it comes to athletes competing from the camp that's programming the event. Morning Chalk Up's Lauren Kalil sits down with Training Think Tanks head coach Max El-Hag and Chase Ingraham to discuss their concerns when payouts get involved and some ideas as to who could program off-season events to even the playing field.Learn more at http://ucan.co/chalkup and save 20% on your first order with code CHALKUPShow Breakdown:0:43 - Potential conflict of interest2:40 - How it can benefit training camps5:00 - Standards to make it more “fair”9:25 - Is it better to have multiple camps program12:45 - Too many cooks in the kitchen?15:20 - Unconscious bias to help your athletes17:20 - Who should program events18:30 - Utilizing Dave Castro?!20:30 - Increase in participation21:55 - Bottom LineTraining Think Tank original video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NvpVkn97Owc
We sit down with one of the Legends of our sport, Noah Ohlsen to discuss life, Happiness and his CrossFit Career. We ask him about his announcement about 2023 being his last year and going team in 2024. We talk about why that decision was made, does he still feel like he can win the CrossFit Games, and did doing team at 2022 Wodapalooza influence some of these decisions. We talk about the journey from out of nowhere rookie to a self aware adult and how that helped him make a top 5 run from 2017-2020. We also ask about Joann, The U, Wodapalooza, getting an invite to compete at the Rogue Invitational, and so much more!
We talk with Kyle about coming up as a swimmer and having a "Racer" Metality, how he first found CrossFit and used it as a tool coaching swimming and strength and conditioning. Eventually Kyle and his wife caught the bug and took over an affiliate in North Carolina. During the initial years of competing he kept hearing about this guy named Max. Who turned out to be Max El Hag and Kyle hired him as a coach, as Max's demand picked up he hired Kyle to be one of his coaches. Eventually that led to Kyle moving to Georgia to be at Max's gym, and the rest is history. Kyle will be competing in a stacked 35-39 year old division at the Master's Fitness Collective coming up in October.
Dave Hochberg is the man responsible for getting Max El-Hag into a CrossFit gym. He put him through his first workout (Fight Gone Bad), introduced him to Brannen Dorman, connected him to OPT (now OPEX), provided business mentorship to TTT, and talked a ton of trash along the way. Dave, 57 years young, now has his eye set on getting back in shape to counteract nature so that he can be in the best shape possible for his 4-month-old child. Dave stopped by TTT HQ, to get some movement screens with our on-site PT Kyle Habdo, and perform some initial testing with Max. Our plan is to document this journey. Most of you know us for working with elite CrossFit athletes, but what you don't know is how many cases like this we take on. Get to know a little bit more about Max and Dave in this episode of the Corpus Animus Podcast.
