A whole lot of betting going on and this episode is here to explain what is going on. First of all FSU and Clemson betted against the ACC and ESPN and lost. Okay, okay let me explain. FSU and Clemson were suing the ACC and ESPN for the ability to break the Grant of rights. They believed that they could break the grant of rights and get to another Conference and get a bigger and better rev share cut. Here the thing, FSU and Clemson were burning money on legal fees. They were no closer to getting free from the ACC. Plus, they found how much the other Conferences didn't what them. They did gain some new advantages with staying with the ACC. Peace in our time? Some Georgia state legislators are betting on that can pass legislation that with allow the college athletes in their state to be tax exempt. They believe this legislation will aid in better recruiting at the schools in their state. One the biggest issues the NCAA faces is interference from State law makers who only see things that set advantages for their schools. Those law makers only make it difficult for the NCAA to pass law that are equal for all schools. Speaking of Law makers our congress is being wooed by lobbyist of the NCAA to create and pass anti-trust laws to protect them from being sued every time try to legislate the rules that are past by the member institutions. There is a strange twist, these same law makers are being wooed by leaders of NIL leaders for the athletes. The law makers are double dipping , but for who's benefit? Sounds like both side are betting on something will get done. Lastly, The FBI is investigating point shaving and game influence in the NBA and College basketball. The colleges are fearing betting on many levels. The attacks on players social media and the lost of eligibility. Effecting the outcome of games is having a strange twist on college sports, or why it's happening at certain levels of College Basketball. She spent her adolescent years in the beautiful mountain regions of Taos and Angel Fire and proceeded to live in Santa Fe for several years while pursuing her academic studies and professional art career. She graduated from the College of Santa Fe with her Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2007 and studied a broad range of disciplines including: studio arts, art history, creative writing, psychology, philosophy, and mythology. Her paintings have been included in a wide array of exhibitions since the age of fifteen and her work has been featured in numerous publications including American Art Collector.Professionally she has also worked at galleries in Taos, Santa Fe, and Albuquerque as a director and exhibition specialist for both local and national art fairs including shows such as SOFA Chicago, Art San Diego, and Palm Springs Modernism. She has also collaboratively curated many successful art exhibitions as one of the founders of the Pop-Up Collective, a local Albuquerque group focused on creating exceptional one-night-only art events. She recently curated 12 rotating monthly art exhibitions for Artisan ABQ which in turn lead to the development of 3017 Gallery. She worked with local emerging artist and internationally acclaimed painters.Effecting 1 in every 100,000 births, she was born with a genetic mutation called Holt-Oram-Syndrome which disrupted the development of her heart, hands, and upper limbs. Having been born with a rare birth defect that caused a hole in her heart and impacted the muscle and bone structure of her hands/arms, she feels that this “difference” is one of the primary reasons she gravitated towards a creative path. At a young age her parents encouraged drawing and illustration as a means to improve dexterity. By learning to cope and utilize art to help overcome physical difficulties early on, she realizes her circumstance is a gift rather than a limitation and feels this aspect of her life helped lead her to the practice of art.She has traveled extensively around the world having visited 27 different countries. As a globetrotter and versatile multi-disciplinary artist, her work is often stimulated by her personal and emotional experiences with people, places, and nature. For the same reasons she likes to travel, she constantly explores new content and imagery. She often works on an extensive series, then moves on to a new idea when her inspiration shifts. She views herself as an “explorer of emotion and technique” and thrives on experimenting with the notion that medium influences the creative approach and process. Over the years, she has explored many different painting mediums and subject matter ranging from: semi-realistic representational figurative works, stylized urban and natural landscapes, and contemporary animal portraits. She paints on numerous traditional surfaces and depending on the project/series she uses anything from: ink, watercolor, oil, acrylic, gouache, or even spray paint to create her compositions.

[56:20] “Hybrid work is broken” — what does Corinne mean by that? [58:03] IMMEDIATE ACTION TIP: Consider the dynamics of hybrid work and why it happens rather than just where it happens. Sequence and shuffle the puzzle pieces to figure out what needs to be decided first. RESOURCES Corinne Murray on LinkedIn Corinne's company Agate's website QUOTES (edited) "We can't decide what a culture is. We can decide what an experience is and what that collective experience amounts to is the culture." "We are getting stuck focusing on where things happen, not why they happen, or how they can be done better." "Executives lived experience is so radically different than everyone else in their organization, and yet they're the ones who are dictating how everyone else should be behaving." "If we just assume that everyone wants to be productive, even if everyone's definition of it is different, how do we get stuff out of the way so people can do more of it." "Hybrid is broken....Our application of it is what's broken. And why it's broken is because we have been almost exclusively focused on where hybrid happens rather than what are the dynamics of hybrid work."

I chat about some of the ways public schools may be effecting children. I discuss some of the things that have existed and are new to public schools that may have a negative effect.
In this episode, Carmen discusses her work in family therapy and her Socioculturally Attuned Family Therapy. Carmen shared that she entered the field when there were feminist critiques of family therapy and a focus on power in the therapeutic relationship. She explained that she went to Loma Linda University to direct the family therapy doctoral program, and worked with Douglas Huenerardt, Ph.D. doing cotherapy. They invited students to observe, and their goal was to be able to articulate the work they were doing, and later finalized it into a research study. She explained that the model that evolved out of that work was named Socioemotional Relationship Therapy. Later, she moved to Oregon to teach at Lewis and Clark College, and worked with Teresa McDowell, EdD, LMFT, and wrote the textbook, Socioculturally Attuned Family Therapy, with Teresa and Maria Bermudez, Ph.D., LMFT. We discussed how Carmen's background in sociology led her to always be thinking about sociocultural aspects and how they play out in relationships. She explained that Teresa introduced the idea of Third Order Thinking or Third Order Change to her, which goes beyond the Systemic concept of Second Order change, to bring awareness to the therapist and client of how the sociocultural system the relationships are embedded in and influence their experiences. She also discussed how this helps therapists be aware of how they are accountable for possibly unknowingly reinforcing and repeating larger societal patterns. Carmen discussed the Socio-Emotional Relationship Therapy Model and how it is influenced by experiential, structural therapy, and social constructionist theory and technique, while centering sociocultural awareness. She discussed how emotions are the window into the larger context by helping us see the thinking that is happening and how that thinking may be a product of social-cultural influences. She also discusses the role of power in the model, and being aware of how that determines what is important, what is valued and the meaning of things, and seeing how power plays out in the couple or family dynamics. She explained that they operationalize relational equity as the Circle of Care, which consists of four parts: 1) Mutual Vulnerability - openness and willingness to admit mistakes, safe to express one's sensitivities, 2) Mutual Attunement - that each person is aware of the other person and their needs, as often the person with more power is less attuned, 3) Mutual Influence - whose interests are organizing the relationship and whether there is a willingness to be influenced, and 4) Shared Relational Responsibility - where both are taking responsibility for the wellbeing of the relationship. Carmen discusses how when these are balanced, there is a more equitable relationship, and by the therapist's awareness of power, they can support the changes in the relationship to be more equitable and mutually supportive. Carmen Knudson-Martin, Ph.D., LMFT is a professor emerita in the Marriage, Couple, and Family Therapy program at Lewis and Clark College. Her scholarship focuses on how the larger social context influences health and well-being and how therapists can address the inequities that result. Carmen especially loves working with couples and is widely recognized for her work regarding gender, marital equality, and relational health. She is a founder of Socio-Emotional Relationship Therapy, an approach that attends to the ways couple interaction, emotion, and socio-cultural context come together in clinical process. Carmen's teaching and practice are based on her conviction that how therapists conceptualize client concerns is an ethical issue and that clinical practices have consequences that are never neutral. Carmen is an AAMFT approved supervisor and licensed MFT. She served as an associate editor of the Journal of Marital and Family Therapy, vice-president of the Family Process Institute, board member of the American Family Therapy Academy (AFTA), and president of the California Division of the American Association for Marital and Family Therapy (AAMFT-CA). She is currently editor of the AFTA Springer Series in Family Therapy. Prior to coming to Lewis and Clark, she directed family therapy programs at Loma Linda University in Southern California, Montana State University, and Valdosta State University in Georgia.

Full show notes at www.LearningLeader.com Twitter/IG: @RyanHawk12 https://twitter.com/RyanHawk12 Katty Kay is a US correspondent for the BBC and a regular contributor on MSNBC. Katty grew up in the Middle East, where her father was a British diplomat. She studied French and Italian at Oxford University and worked as a foreign correspondent in Africa and Japan before moving to The US in 1996. Katty is the best-selling author of many books. Her latest is called “The Power Code.” Notes: The definition of power – The ability to exercise one's will, influence others, and effect change. The ability to exercise our will—More Joy. Influencing (not controlling) others—Less Ego. Effecting change—Maximum Impact. Redefining Power - In the past, it seems to be about dominance. About something you hold over something (people, or resources). Instead, we want it to be used to effect positive change. Let's use power for good. Promoting on promise versus promoting on performance. The research states that more men are promoted on promise than women. And women are mostly promoted based on performance. As leaders, let's think about promise versus performance. As Frank Slootman said in a previous conversation, let's hire people “Ahead of their curve. Most women today don't want power. The path to getting it, as it exists today, involves too many sacrifices, and power itself is unappealing, full of egos and competition. Women have all the skills, but we'd rather opt out. Women and men don't define power in the same way. Men think of power as a finite commodity, part of a hierarchical, zero-sum game that involves having power over people. Women aren't competitive about power, and we focus more on the end result, the change we can affect with power. It's the difference between power over and power to. Does power corrupt? Not in the hands of women. Researchers have found that women are the exception to the rule that powerful people are less empathetic–women tend to maintain their connection to others, to a ground-level reality, as we rise through the ranks–a huge leadership advantage. Power fuels action. Neuroscientists are discovering the remarkable things power does to our brains. It can liberate its possessors, across their lives, and even create an ability to act more authentically. That offers big rewards for women and needs to become a selling point. Women will never get power outside the home until our marriages look less like the 1950s. Our marriages aren't keeping up with society or our careers. A woman with a job does more housework than a man who doesn't work. In couples where the wife earns more than the husband, they lie about it on the US census form. Men are stuck in a box they don't want to be in. They are pushed to play the outdated role of primary breadwinner, which is why the number of stay-at-home dads has barely grown in a quarter of a century. But increasingly men realize the zero-sum power formula isn't working for them either. A more collaborative, more humane approach to power would benefit everyone. 00:38 - How Do You Define Power? 03:18 - Challenges with Research on Gender 05:46 - Using Power for Good 08:41 - Power reveals your Character 10:22 - Why Wouldn't Someone Want Power? 13:37 - Is Power Shifting for Good? 15:31 - How Does Power Need to Change? 19:21 - Suggestions for Relationships at Home 20:42 - The Options to be a “Stay At Home” 30:58 - Characteristics of Katty's Career 33:46 - Can Fame Impact a Marriage? 35:13 - Society's Expectations for Mom & Dads 39:05 - Confidence & Imposter Syndrome 42:45 - The Common Characteristic of Every Leader 44:46 - The Impact of Female College Graduates 46:59 - Can Having Children Impact Your Career as a Mother? 49:30 - Advice for a Male CEO 52:26 - Life Advice for All
