Specialization is coming — and surviving will mean doing one thing better than anyone else. But that's only the beginning. Getting there takes a relentless growth mindset: an obsession with stacking small operational wins — data, tech, genetics, process — to create massive separation over time.Extraction isn't simple. And in a world of margin compression, “this is how we've always done it” won't cut it.Micah shares how applying best-in-class manufacturing principles has helped LEEF reach elite levels of efficiency — and how just a 1–2% gain in yield can unlock millions in value. He also shares how they're continuing to push the envelope to stay ahead. This week we sit down with Micah Anderson to discuss:What it takes to earn trust from the world's biggest brandsWhy world-class manufacturing technologies is massive edgeExpansion plans in NY and what's next for “the farm”Chapters00:00 Introduction to Micah Anderson and Leaf Brands02:49 Journey into the Cannabis Industry05:51 The Focus on Extraction09:02 Challenges and Lessons Learned11:49 Data-Driven Decision Making14:52 Procurement and Supply Chain Dynamics18:03 Extraction Modalities and Client Collaboration20:58 Investment in Cultivation and Expansion Plans24:11 Strategic Moves into New Markets27:13 Navigating Market Challenges and Future Outlook36:35 Navigating New Markets: The New York Strategy41:13 Operational Challenges: Training and Culture in Expansion44:44 Bitcoin: A New Asset Class for Cannabis Companies52:40 Understanding Monetary Policy: Recommended Reads57:36 Fixing the California Cannabis Market: Tax Reforms About LEEF Brands: LEEF Brands' vision is to become the largest vertically integrated extraction company in the world. Today, we're lighting up a conversation with a true pioneer at the intersection of cannabis, entrepreneurship, and cutting-edge innovation.Micah Anderson is the Founder and CEO of Leef Brands, a visionary force behind one of the most sophisticated cannabis extraction facilities in North America. He holds every cannabis license type, making him a master navigator of one of the most complex industries in the world. Under his leadership, Leef has assembled a world-class executive team, built powerful distribution networks, and secured both private equity and institutional debt to fuel the company's growth. But Micah isn't just shaping markets — he's shaping policy. Recognized at both the Federal and state levels as a key opinion leader, he regularly advises government officials and takes the stage at conferences to share his insights. And if that weren't enough, he's a big-time Bitcoin believer, exploring the frontiers of finance just as boldly as he's reshaping cannabis. From green rush to digital gold, today we're diving into the mind of a serial entrepreneur who thrives where innovation meets disruption. Buckle up — this is going to be a ride. Micah, welcome to the show!https://leefbrands.com/https://x.com/micah_a_leef?s=21&t=l-RuYzZ5-PN85Y-SxI7OMwCannabis and Entrepreneurship: 1. Cannabis has long been a symbol of both counterculture and healing. As someone who's shaped the industry from the inside, do you see cannabis as a plant that's transforming society — or is society transforming cannabis? 2. In building Leef Brands, you've turned a once-illicit industry into a legitimate enterprise. What does it take to walk that razor's edge between rebellion and regulation? 3. You hold every cannabis license type — a feat in itself. Do you see these licenses as keys to unlocking opportunity, or as shackles that keep innovation in check? 4. The cannabis industry has deep roots in underground culture. As the market becomes more corporate, how do you preserve the soul of the plant while scaling a business? 5. Entrepreneurship is often painted as a pursuit of freedom, yet the process demands structure, discipline, and sacrifice. How do you balance personal freedom with the responsibilities of leadership?⸻Policy and Power: 6. You've advised government officials on cannabis policy. What's more difficult: shifting the public narrative, or convincing policymakers to see beyond decades of stigma? 7. When you speak to lawmakers about cannabis reform, do you feel like a translator between two worlds — or more of a disruptor forcing change from the inside? 8. Policy shapes culture as much as culture shapes policy. Do you believe legal frameworks can ever truly reflect the complexity of cannabis and its role in human history?⸻Legacy and Innovation: 9. You've built one of the most sophisticated extraction facilities in North America. Do you view technology as a tool to enhance the plant, or does it risk sterilizing the natural magic of cannabis? 10. In both cannabis and Bitcoin, there's this tension between preserving legacy and embracing the future. How do you navigate that paradox? 11. What's the most profound lesson cannabis has taught you — not as a product, but as a teacher in your life's journey?⸻Bitcoin and Decentralization: 12. Cannabis and Bitcoin both challenge centralized power structures. Do you see parallels between the green revolution and the crypto revolution? 13. Bitcoin is often described as “trustless,” removing the need for intermediaries. Do you believe cannabis could follow a similar path, or is trust essential to the plant's journey into legitimacy? 14. If Bitcoin represents a new frontier of financial freedom, what does cannabis represent in this evolving landscape of personal autonomy and choice?⸻Philosophy and Vision: 15. Entrepreneurs often talk about “building something bigger than themselves.” Do you see Leef Brands as a legacy to leave behind, or as a living organism that evolves beyond its creator? 16. In a world driven by profit, where do you draw the line between growth and integrity? 17. If you could change one thing about how society perceives cannabis — not just legally, but culturally — what would it be? 18. What does freedom mean to you? Is it found in ownership, in creation, or in something else entirely? 19. Do you believe the true power of cannabis lies in altering consciousness — or in revealing what was already there? 20. Imagine a future where cannabis and Bitcoin have fully integrated into society. What does that world look like to you?⸻“Pearl Fire”They built a cage of polished lies —each word a silken thread, each promise a rusted shackle. They whispered sweet nothings, calling it safety, calling it love, but it was a collar, tight against the throat, and she wore it for too long.Beneath the velvet hush, something coiled.A flicker.A pearl of fire,white-hot and silent, pressing against her ribs, waiting. They never saw the storm gatheringbehind those dark lashes. They mistook h...

Even as things continue to go from bad to worse, the team does their best to find a period of relative safety. Some combat (aka field research) yields promising results, but also leads some of the team to get a tiny bit careless in terms of the trouble that they're in. I was lucky enough to be brought onto the Hellbent team last year to create content for their online storytelling and, after watching the film for the first time, I was so excited to be part of such an incredible project. Having worked together for months, it was great to sit down with the film's Co-Directors, Justin Grubb and Annie Roth, to ask them all the questions I'd been wanting to ask them for ages, as well as those I thought our listeners would enjoy hearing the answers to.This, now multi-award winning, short film documents a mother and daughter team in Grant Township, Pennsylvania, as they take on a huge fracking corporation to protect their water source and, in the process, save the habitat of the highly endangered, incredibly sensitive and thoroughly weird-looking hellbender salamander. I instantly fell in love with Stacy and Judy - the film's main characters, as their warmth and determination was contagious, and I was behind their community 100%. The film is empowering and hopeful, but the story is far from over. This is one of the very few ‘rights of nature' cases that has been upheld in the US and, with many having been overturned since designation, Grant Township is far from being out of the woods. The people behind the film are working hard to make sure this film is seen by as many people as possible, so that other communities can gain inspiration and encouragement to fight their own battles, and protect both human and nature's rights.Oh, and I won't end this article without mentioning the beautiful animation created by the multi-talented Katie Garrett (also the film's editor) stunning cinematography, and the magnificent original score, which features in the podcast episode and was composed by Micah Anderson. Having listened to me bang on about how great the film is, I'm sure you want to watch it, so here's a link. You have to register for free and then you'll get access to five of the films in the Jackson Wild World Wildlife Day Showcase (including ours). AND if you love it too, please vote for the film to win the Audience Award, as the more attention the film gets, the more people will know about it and will be inspired by its message.Follow Hellbent on Instagram, Twitter or Facebook to keep up to date with Grant Township's fight, screenings and the rights of nature movement. If you'd like to organise a screening of Hellbent in your community, you can get in touch with the team here.Hellbent is a co-production of the Wild Lens Collective - who are also the makers of the Earth to Humans podcast. Micah Is a friend from my kickball team and owns a home in downtown Durham. He bought his home from a seller who sold with no agent and this unique story is not once you wanna miss.
On this episode, Hunter and Ryan sit down with Jon Davis and Matt Morris to discuss their new project, The Bastardized Classics. Using the Bastards. system from Micah Anderson, Jon and Matt are seeking to recreate the classic modules S1 through S4 with modern sensibilities in a compact format with a rules-lite design ethos. The project also has Micah editing, as well as fantastic art from Hodag RPG. Vault of Doom (S1 Tomb of Horrors) is out now, as well as Bastion on the Frontier (B2 The Keep on the Borderlands) and In Pursuit of what is Hidden (B1 In Search of the Unknown).
Micah Anderson makes their return to Creator Cuts to run their game Bastards using their fetid hexcrawl adventure The Batrachian Swamps, co-written with Nate Treme. "Twisting channels of murky water. Soggy fractals of rotten plant matter and black soil. The whine of mosquitos and swoops of bats. A heavy grey sky, like a humid woolen blanket. And over it all, the dumb, accusing stare of amphibians."
This week we ran our first TWS Actual Play! Creator Cuts will be a series of APs where the designer or writer of a game or adventure runs it for us on The Weekly Scroll. Kicking this series off is designer, editor, and writer Micah Anderson. They ran their adventure Asteroid of the Fungid Lord which was written for Hexdrive, their sci-fi variation of the space-fantasy game Troika.
This week Hunter and Ryan sit down with prolific editor, writer, and creator Micah Anderson to discuss the updates to their rules-light ttrpg Bastards and much more. Then we read through 3 of their pocket/business card rpgs, Dagger, Chainsaw, and Space Cowboy.
This week Hunter and Ryan interview Iko about Skyrealms, their system-neutral RPG fantasy sourcebook and coloring book that is funding right now on kickstarter! Afterwards we read through two great zines from two great creators. First is Bastards by Micah Anderson, their take on dragon games but with higher health than most retroclones, depleting Luck, simple monsters, and an intuitive AC system. And finally, Merger by Michael Elliot, a single player role-playing game about trying to survive in a world of living predatory corporations. You can find Skyrealms here https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/thelostbay/skyrealms

Welcome to today's episode of Stop Signs are Optional where BLACK LIVES MATTER. We are taking a pause from our normal subject matter and providing space to discuss the Black Lives Matter Movement, to honor George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Tamir Rice, and countless unnamed Black innocent victims. To the Black Community: We see you; We hear you, We feel your frustrations, yet We have no idea what it’s like to LIVE your fears, frustrations, pain, and we are not trying to pretend like We do. As white women, we never have and never will experience racism in our country. That means we are not and could not be experts on this matter however we can act as facilitators. Lindsey and Allie welcome Micah Anderson: A Black Man in America to the show. Micah shares part of his life and experiences as a black man and how vastly different they are from a white life through code switching, softening his personality, and changing his demeanor to make others more comfortable. This episode was recorded exactly two weeks after the death of George Floyd. Key Moments: [4:35] Annoyed with 'white saviors' at protests and marches.[5:50] Lindsey and Allie are ready to get uncomfortable. [10:50] Lindsey's belief that once someone becomes an adult, racist actions become a choice. [13:05] All Lives Matter [14:25] I don't see color, I'm not racist. [16:46] Lindsey's past arrest history at 18 years old. [17:56] Micah Anderson joins the show! He needs no other credential other than 'A Black Man in America.' [23:00] Recent experiences at Black Lives Matter marches and protests. [23:50] The new White or non-Black guilt and weight is something that Black people have been carrying their entire lives and can never put it down. [29:00] Why is it so important to ask the Black community how they should be supported? [33:15] How to be impactful without harm. [43:15] Why does Micah (and others) refer to himself as a 'palatable Black man' and how does code switching apply to race? [46:40] "I have a Black friend/girlfriend/boyfriend." [57:36] Why are White people inherently scared of Black people? [59:50] Lindsey shares a story of learned racism from her childhood. [1:03:50] Diversity and inclusion versus marginalization of Black people. [1:05:20] The 13th Amendment, the documentary on Netflix, and that of the actual Constitution. [1:10:20] White guilt. How period pieces - movies - always paint Black people in a negative light. [1:13:08] Equality versus Equity: What's the difference? [1:20:40] It is not the job of a Black person to educate a White person. However, Micah believes it is necessary to be palatable to White people, initially, in order for the work to be shared. He is currently an MFT trainee with a humanistic-existential lens, focusing on both trauma-informed approaches and mindfulness-based interventions. Micah lives in Oakland, CA. with his wife and two children, and received his Masters in Psychology from Sofia University in Palo Alto, CA. He is currently undergoing supervision for his MFT license.
