In reference, to Naomi's voice message in the last episode, I realized what an important influence the music had in her young life. She said she was surrounded by a Christian environment. In her memories, it was like we had meetings every night, with singing and worshipping God. In an interview for a Christian TV program Naomi said something similar: “I remember when I was four years old, that my dad taught me a song, and we sang it together at the Bible study meeting. We were always singing. My father was playing music every day, either guitar or piano. He always encouraged us to sing with him, it was fun, but above all else, it was about the Bible.“ Her story has led me to consider, how did music become such a normal part of our daily life. Within our community house in Trudering, Bible reading, singing, prayer and even fasting, was a normal part of the schedule. For Thomas and I, that lifestyle started way back at Living Waters. Maybe you remember that in Episode 23, titled “A New Song” Thomas experienced a big transformation, in his identity as a musician. He quit playing his instruments, because he wanted to rid himself, of the pride he had developed. At some point, God gave him a new purpose, with his gift of music. Here's the link to a song we learned, from Psalm 25, at Living Waters, "Unto thee do I lift up my soul." Be encouraged !! https://youtu.be/tjqlkWhz-aA?feature=shared

Living on the B Side
Why music with a message and intention is more important than ever, chat with Chad Lewine

What is your view on today's state of music? Are the majority of the songs inspiring and mean something to you consciously? Or does it all blur into some kind of background music with no real intention or message?! This is the main topic we touch on heavily during my chat with Chad. Chad is a musician on a mission to put the ‘intention' back into music and songs. His mission is ‘Pop, for good' and he strongly believes that we all need to become aware again of how important it is to have music with intention and meaning. That what we hear gets absorb by our subconscious and impacts us heavily in our day to day lives. And hence needs to be ‘food for thought' and less distraction overall. A fascinating and though provoking talk that hopefully will leave you pondering and question the music you listen to and why. During out time together we chatted about: • Why he is a musician on a mission • What his vision and mission entails • His view on the current state of the music industry • Why he believes we need to wake up and start a change in this industry • The song that kicked off his love of music and understanding of its power • Why people recording/live streaming concerts makes him a little mad • How our subconscious has been ‘trained' for certain actions in life (by various sources), example is at live concerts • What he picked Caroline Polacheck's song ‘Welcome to my island' as one of his current favourite songs More about Chad: Chad Lewine followed the same path that most aspiring talent does. At 5 years old he knew he wanted to be a rock star. But the reasons for the dream have shifted throughout his life. His first exposure to music production was through elective music tech and audio engineering classes in high school. In 2009 Chad started taking his own music seriously while attending college at the now defunct Art Institute of Pittsburgh. Chad recorded his first single, “Life is a Ride” at Krizan's Sonic Boom Studios in Raritan, NJ in 2010. In the summer of 2013 he renamed himself as HoneyChrome and reoriented his music to the EDM and hip hop of the time, OUTwithU was one of the first songs he released during that time. In 2013 Chad moved into one of the last real artists' lofts in Brooklyn at Bedford & Myrtle in Bed Stuy. This creative environment, led by actor and director Lin Lauren, was the first time he had ever been surrounded by and immersed in art. Here he wrote and recorded most of his second self-produced album, the 14 track new-age, spirit-science laden and anthemic Daylight Animal. At the end of 2017, Chad's homemade demo for Boomerang, also featured on Feeling High, caught the ear of a radio promoter who connected him with Mike Rogers, mixing engineer of the 90s global hit Groove is on the Heart. Rogers ended up producing Chad's biggest track yet, Boomerang. Released in the summer of 2018, Boomerang is a sticky and infectious pop record, with sonic accents that just feel like Chad. During the second half of 2022, Lewine's mission fully crystallized. Through the turbulent end of an abusive relationship and a renewed and confident sense about his music, POP, FOR GOOD was born and the first proper brand was developed for his artistry. With an image that matches his outspoken, somewhat existentialist and controversial perspective, Lewine has fully owned his mission and has just released his latest single Dark Nights, on February 15th, 2023. Christa Deánā (Duh-nay) is a Christian Singer/Songwriter from Philadelphia who sings with conviction and power. Her songs speak to the journey of a woman after God's own heart. Each song is deeply rooted in a personal, yet extremely vulnerable relationship with God. It's the beauty and emotion in her voice and the candor in her lyrics that help inspire others to go all the way, every day, with God. Dedicating herself to music as a child, she won first place in the Young Artist Competition for the city of Allentown, PA. A gifted writer, Christa Deana performed her first original song at 11 and went on to write over 50 more. Her vocal ability also developed young, securing her lead oratorios from classics such as Handel’s Messiah, Mendelssohn’s Elijah, Vivaldi’s Gloria, and lead songs in Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Pirates of Penzance. In addition to writing and singing, she has toured with several choirs that took her to Romania, Turkey, France, Spain, England, and all over the US. During this journey she found a love for conducting and excelled as a choir director for several choirs. She has worked with The Lesser Light Collective as a soloist, writer, and conductor, directing the choir for their performance at Washington Adventist University. Christa Deánā inherited perfect pitch, excellent natural timing, a powerful vocal instrument and a creative soul. But she’s been diligent to cultivate her gifts, obtaining her music education degree from the University of Valley Forge. Not content to simply make her own music, she pulls beautiful music out of her students and collaborators. She is currently a music educator and worship leader at various facilities and churches. She is also the co-owner for ChristaCourt Productions. Currently, she is focusing on spreading the word about her new single, "If God Doesn't Want It" and releasing an additional new single on her birthday, May 29, 2018 called "Here" and a self entitled album with all new original music Fall 2018. Matthew Chapman started playing bass when he was 15 and backed up a singer that did entertainment at wineries in the St. Helena, California, area where he grew up. He discovered Contemporary Christian Music in 1973 and immediately knew that was something he wanted to do.  He's not a Preacher, but he wanted to encourage people to pursue a relationship with God and, for him, music with a message was the best way to do that. He moved to Southern California in 1974 to play Christian Music full time and at that time began friendships with Sam, Randy, Bob, Jimmy, Steve and Bryan, along with a host of other musicians in Christian bands all wanting to do the same thing he wanted.  The '70s were a great time of grassroots ministries and sharing their love for God and music.  Through the years he also toured with Benny Hester, Bryan Duncan, Rick Elias, Darrell Mansfield, to name a few.  Matthew currently play with three bands: Princeton Revival - a men's ministry band, UZoo - a U2 Tribute band and The Deck Band - a group of friends that play small venues and parties in the Nashville area.

Joel Cross and Collin Hauser are two Texas native musicians that are making waves in the music industry. Not only does their music make you feel something when you hear it, I believe it carries a message. I sat down with them and asked about what motivates them to write songs with messages of love, social awareness, heartbreak and hope. These talented gentlemen both found their passion for music at an early age. At 8 years old, Collin discovered his father’s 12-string guitar under their staircase, with his older brother. He later attended the University of North Texas (UNT) for music, where he met Joel and they became friends. Collin has recently released his second EP and has toured the country with artist like Cas Haley. For Joel Cross, he says music was always around him growing up. Music was a way of life for his family. Joel’s inspiration to become a musician came as a child when he saw his father tuning and playing a guitar at church. He knew from that moment he wanted to play guitar for the rest of his life. He’s currently touring locally and nationally, he’s also recently released an EP, which you can purchase on iTunes. Learn more about them as we discuss “Music with a Message: A talk with Joel Cross & Collin Hauser” Key questions: “How did you get started?” (For Joel & Collin) [1:20] “Who were some musicians that influenced you early on in life? Who inspires you nowadays, what recent artists?” (For Joel & Collin) [5:35] “What do you want people to feel when they listen to your music?” (For Joel) [19:00] “How important is it for you, for your music to have a message when people hear it?” (For Collin) [23:50] “Is there “bad music” to you guys?” (For Joel & Collin) [32:00] “How do you think music can influence how men act, today?” (For Joel & Collin) [42:13] “What’s your definition of a gentleman?” [51:00] HERE’S HOW YOU CAN GET THE LATEST UPDATES ON COLLIN & JOEL: Collin Hauser- www.CollinHauser.com Twitter: @CollinaHauser Instagram: @CollinHauser Souncloud.com/Collinhauser Msclvr.co/CollinHauser Joel Cross- www.JoelCross.com Twitter: @JoelPiece Instagram: @JoelPiece Reverbnation.com/joelcross https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/joel-cross-ep/id1046755807

Tom plays at festivals, union halls, colleges, national conferences, cafes, house concerts, & at political and social gatherings. He particularly enjoys the personal connections provided by house concerts and has performed for countless benefits and causes. His music has been used in nine documentaries, as he tells the stories of people's struggles against greed & violence, interjecting a good deal of levity along the way.
