This interview with Brian Vander Ark, the lead singer of The Verve Pipe, covers the band's history, creative process, and upcoming music and tour. The conversation kicks off with a discussion of the band's early success, particularly the delayed rise to fame of their song "Photograph," and the challenges they faced in their early years. Brian shares intriguing anecdotes about the songwriting process, including how "The Freshman" was inspired by a random glance at a VHS tape cover, and how he uses modern tools like iPhones to capture melodic ideas, which he used to leave on his answering machine. The interview highlights the evolution of The Verve Pipe's music, with Brian explaining how the band has experimented within the pop genre and pushed the boundaries of their sound. He also delves into the lyrical aspects of their music, detailing a shift from ambiguous, relatable lyrics in songs like "The Freshman" to more straightforward, linear storytelling in their newer work. Brian teases their upcoming album "Reconciled," describing it as a mix of storytelling and catchy tunes that hark back to the 90s grunge era, featuring a song called "Dust," which is already a hit with live audiences. Further, the interview captures the essence of the band's live performances and camaraderie. Brian emphasizes the joy and entertainment value they bring to the stage, likening the band members to the Muppets due to their distinctive on-stage personas. He also touches on the practical aspects of touring, including their pre-show meditation routine and the importance of rituals that keep them grounded. Brian's additional role as a corporate radio host at WLAV Classic Rock 97 also makes an appearance, illustrating his multifaceted career and dedication to both his music and his family. The interview closes with details about the band's upcoming show at Sweetwater Music Hall, promising an engaging and dynamic performance for fans.

Jim is still a slow reader, but he's working on it. Tom Cruise is doing a stunt at the Closing Ceremonies of the Paris Olympics. Word on the street is he's going to run really fast. Everyone is talking about the Algerian boxer. Is she trans? Is she a guy? A girl? What is she? Why does everyone care about women's boxing all of the sudden? The Paris Olympics ratings are through the roof thanks to Simone Biles. Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, his stretched out t-shirt, and his excessive body hair got a plea deal to not get the death penalty. Brian Vander Ark and The Verve Pipe are playing this weekend at the Dearborn Homecoming Festival at Ford Field Park. Go check them out Friday night. Also, if you're in Grand Rapids, make sure to listen to Brian on the radio on WLAV. Steve O is pushing his sobriety on everyone and no one likes it. Drew is really getting into YouTubers. Cody Ko and Tana Mongeau are so hot right now. And they're fighting. Apparently Cody Ko has a tiny wiener. Mr Beast is being accused of being a racist and a white savior.... and Drew loves him! Whitney Cummings is dating Chris Cole. Chris' ex, Red Cole, said Chris raped and beat her. Red told a story on her show about Chris breaking her windshield... and the co-host found it to be hilarious. Britney Spears sells the rights to her autobiography and will get to choose who plays her in the film. Mel Tucker sues Michigan State to get any money left from his ridiculous contract. He also calls the University racist. Joy Mode brings you the Bonerline. Use promo code DREW. Call or text 209-66-Boner to communicate with the show. Maz calls in before ANOTHER trip to New Jersey. His car is FULL of pillows and blankets and really soft presets on his radio. We also get into the Mel Tucker lawsuit, Connor Stalions, Jim Leyland's number being retired, Thom Brennaman returning to the broadcast booth, Tom's first R rated movie, and Tom incorrectly corrects everyone about 18 times. Donald Trump doubles down on Kamala Harris "turning" black. Trudi learns that my culture isn't her costume. Jim's Picks: Top 10 Songs With God In The Title. What happened to Audrina Patridge? WISCONSIN MUSIC PODCAST AMPLFYING WISCONSIN MUSIC EPISODE 106 Sam Boettcher of BLAME IT ON CAIN If you've found yourself poking around iTunes lately, you've probably bumped into a litany of highly-polished, over compressed, auto-tuned pop music. Boring. “What happened to Rock?”, you wonder. Happily, it's right here ... in Beertown, USA. Blame It On Cain. Rock Done Right. The band released their debut album, ‘Rhythm Schism' in 2008 and the album stretched beyond the usual boundaries of local radio and internet play. Their song, “Yesterday's Happy” was released nationally on a compilation CD from Versailles Records. “Miami Beach” was the theme song for an animated web-series based on the east coast. And the band was invited on stage with Brian Vander Ark of the Verve Pipe, to sit in on a couple of acoustic numbers with the multi-platinum selling artist. A refreshed sound emerged and the band went back into the studio to record ‘Big Down Under' in 2017. The album instantly received positive reviews from critics and fans, and the initial printing sold-out. With little down time, the band went back to writing and, in May 2019, released, ‘Amp Grease'. The album features eight newly recorded tunes and explores a number of different textures. Their latest album - “Implied Maturity” - features 9 new, eclectic songs; from the bluesy “Blush” to the reflective “Summerhill”, and from the gritty-drive of “Story Of Your Lies” to the delicate “Love, Not Change”. The album is a departure from previous releases, as this is the band's first all-acoustic effort. It is available on iTunes, Amazon Music, Bandcamp, Pandora and other streaming services. The idea to do an all-acoustic album came after Cain played a set at an unplugged festival in Sturgeon Bay. The band then used the pandemic and lockdown to their advantage, by slowly writing and continually reworking the album until they were satisfied with the result. Blame It On Cain is: Sam Boettcher (vocals), Steve Draganchuk (guitar) Rich Seegert (drums) Kevin Schwerdtfeger (bass). Jeff is currently the bassist for Foreigner. He joined the band in 2004. He was also a member of melodic metal bands Dokken, Dio and MSG. He formed his own progressive metal group called War and Peace in 1989, handling all of the vocals, along with his instrumental work. He has also acted, having appeared in the movie Rock Star. He played bassist Jorgen, of the fictional band Steel Dragon. The film also featured performances by musicians such as Zakk Wylde, Jason Bonham, Myles Kennedy, Brian Vander Ark, Blas Elias and Nick Catanese. "Made Loud To Be Played Loud!" Get access to FREE mixing mini-course: https://MixMasterBundle.com My guest today is Bill Szymczyk (and his son Mike Szymczyk) a Grammy-winning and multi-nominated American music producer and engineer best known for producing Hotel California by The Eagles. He produced many top albums and singles of the 1970s, though–aside from continuing to work with Joe Walsh–he retired from the music business by 1990 re-emerging in the late 2000s for select projects including the 2007 Eagles album Long Road Out of Eden and the 2008 eponymous debut of Brian Vander Ark. Unlike many music producers, Szymczyk has no background as a musician. He was originally a sonar operator for the U.S. Navy and took some audio production classes as part of his Navy training. Besides his work with the Eagles, he has produced hit songs and albums for such diverse artists as B.B. King, Joe Walsh, The James Gang, and Elvin Bishop. He's got a more impressive resume than just being the lead singer of The Verve Pipe. One of my favorite songwriters is my guest on this Acoustic Alternatives episode.
Happy Wednesday, HUMP DAY!!!! Today I bring you a band that I have been following for more than 20 years. This was an amazing conversation, and a dream come true. Ladies and Gentleman, The Verve Pipe! Multiplatinum alternative rock band THE VERVE PIPE have spent the past 25+ years acquiring global acclaim while continuously building their legacy with radio hit songs including the iconic 1997 #1 smashing single “The Freshmen,” “Photograph,” “Hero,” and “Never Let You Down,” plus the favored track “Colorful” which was featured in the 2001 feature film Rock Star. Founder/lead singer and main songwriter BRIAN VANDER ARK has returned with a refreshed energy bringing on youthful co-writer and backing vocalist CHANNING LEE on the band's first new album in four years, THREADS, scheduled for release on November 5 (CD & digital), March 11 (vinyl). THE VERVE PIPE are also excited to reveal the first listen to THREAD's debut single, “No One's Gonna Break This Heart (Again),” with an exclusive premiere via the band's SoundCloud. Listen now at this link: https://soundcloud.com/thevervepipe/the-verve-pipe-no-ones-gonna-break-this-heart-again “No One's Gonna Break This Heart (Again)” is available now to stream/download across all digital platforms. “This song is about how we overprotect ourselves,” shares VANDER ARK about the single's meaning. “It's about the armor that we wear after a particularly bad breakup. We deny ourselves the opportunity to fall in love again, fearful we will relive the pain. And yet it can't be helped. Love happens again and again, until we finally get it right.” The Verve Pipe | Facebook Home | thevervepipe This episode is proudly brought to you by: Betterhelp : https://www.betterhelp.com/sipod for 10% off Mack Weldon: https://www.mackweldon.com/suckit Promo Code "SUCKIT" for 20% off! After building a devoted fanbase in their native Michigan in the early 90s, the Verve Pipe struck gold in 1996 when a song they'd been playing for years called "The Freshman" totally changed the game, catapulting their third album (first on a major label) Villains into platinum territory. The world was their oyster. Unfortunately, the follow-up tanked on an epic level and they never quite regained their footing. Since then their songcraft has only improved over the years, including 2017's excellent Parachute. Along the way, frontman Brian Vander Ark did his very best to stay afloat with solo albums and revolutionizing the house concert. In this chat we discuss all of it including working with producers like Jerry Harrison, Adam Schlesinger, and Bill Szymczyk, what he purchased when he finally hit it big and the impact of constantly being confused for UK band The Verve. Brian's about as down to earth as it gets and the Verve Pipe are currently on tour so catch them while you can! http://www.thevervepipe.com/

I woke up the next morning looking at the world differently. 2. What is a characteristic or trait that you possessed as a child that you wish you still exhibited today? Hopeful. I was very hopeful. 3. Your house is on fire, all living things and people are out. You have the opportunity to run in and grab one item. What would it be? My computer with my lyrics on it. 4. You are sitting on a bench overlooking a gorgeous beach. You have the opportunity to have a long conversation with anyone living or dead. Who would it be? Abraham Lincoln. I'd ask him 'How do you write like that?' His wisdom and words resonate so strong. 5. What is the best advice you've ever received? Pay attention. Stay in the moment. I've seen a lot of people having a conversation that aren't in the conversation. My father would say, 'Are you really connecting with everyone you meet?' There is probably some wisdom you need to take. People don't meet by accident but for a reason. 6. What advice would you give your 20-year-old self? You are not always who they say you are. You are uniquely unique, so don't be afraid. 7. It’s been said that all great people can have their lives summed up in one sentence. How do you want yours to read? In this week’s episode of the Music Revered Podcast, I have a conversation with musician and songwriter Brian Vander Ark. On the show, Brian talks about his work with the band The Verve Pipe, as well as his home concert series Lawn Chairs and Living Rooms. Lastly, Brian discusses his work as a public speaker, and his upcoming autobiography titled “When I Was Young I Knew Everything”.
I catch up with Brian Vander Ark, lead singer of the Verve Pipe, who spent four years in the army before beginning his music career. The Verve Pipe hit it big with “The Freshman”. Brian tells me the long journey of the song and why the follow up album failed. Their song, “Colorful”, was featured in the movie, “Rock Star”. Brian had a role in the movie. The Verve Pipe still put out albums, including a couple of children’s album and performs.
Today is a day that Connie will surely relive over and over in her memories. Today was the day that Brian Vander Ark made a surprise appearance in the studio to sing Connie's favorite song "Colorful" to her live on the air! Needless to say, she has had goosebumps ever since! Also on the show we found out that Steve's wedding will have an unofficial guest... Hurricane Hermine! We also talked about how we prefer our steaks cooked and we listed off the 20 biggest stars to have played Van Andel Arena. All of that, Curtis' Whatever, and much more on today's show!
The Verve Pipe's Brian Vander Ark made a very special appearance on the show today! A few weeks ago, we were talking about a little known Verve Pipe song called "Colorful". Our general manager, Russ, happens to be friends with a certain individual who wrote and sang that song. Next thing you know, Brian is in the studio to serenade Connie with her favorite song!
