Læs mere her.

Flamenco Chiavi in Mano podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Nov 4, 2022 15:54

THE BLUES AND FOLK OF ANDALUCIA Flamenco is a blend of many cultural traditions that inhabited Andalucia, the birthplace of flamenco, situated in southern Spain at Europe's closest proximity to Africa. You will hear old and modern flamenco and some of its different styles. Flamenco can be breakdown into different rhythms and styles such as bulerías, fandangos, tangos, tientos or rumbas (and many more). Rumba flamenca is a genre more recognised abroad with the international fame of the French nationals Gipsy Kings. Their music comes from a style developed in Catalonia (Catalan Rumba) in the 1950s by the gipsies communities who emigrated from Andalucia to Catalonia to work in the most industrial part of Spain. In the working-class areas of the industrial towns of Catalonia, the young gipsies felt more open to mixing their musical tradition with the rhythms of Cuban music and, interestingly, rock & roll coming from the US. I have also included some other forms of flamenco fusion. The only intention is to introduce some of the music and some of the most reputed musicians of flamenco. It is not a complete guide at all. The list of the greatest singers and musicians of flamenco is enormous. As for the curious listeners can be a starting point to search into a musical art form that sure will provide them great discoveries and musical enjoyment. This episode was great for me! I've been playing guitar since the 5th grade. It's been more of a hobby and something I have dreamt about doing professionally but it wasn't on my path. I track lots of guitarists and about 8 years ago I came across Steffen. I was blown away by his style, technical ability and composition. There was something very unique and fresh to his music. Shortly after staring Titans of Transition I made a list of people I would love to interview. Steffen was on the list but it took me months before I worked up the courage to ask him. I thought it was a long shot. After all I am quite far away he is in Denmark and I am in the USA. Also I am quite a few years his senior. He graciously accepted.  Thanks Steff! As with all my episodes, I explore Steffen's career and life transitions, from his classical training on violin, cello and piano leading up to his discovery of guitar. He went all in on music and left Gymnasium (High School) to devote more time to his passion and gift-music.Unlike other interviews, I have to admit I geek out a bit with him on guitars, guitar tone and music. Through it all we had a great conversation about transitions, life, music and lessons we have learned along our respective journeys. - Joe MillerThe video version is available HERESteffen's Contact Information:Website  Youtube channel Instagram Facebook Twitter Steffen Schackinger was born right in the centre of Denmark - in the capital of the island Fyn - Odense. He started out on the violin as a kid, and moved on to cello and classical piano. With the classical and electric guitar he finally found his right instrument. At the age of 13 he started out as a band guitarist, and he soon earned a reputation, as an extraordinary guitarist.Steffen completed his education as a rhythmic guitarist at The Carl Nielsen Academy of Music, and the self-released cd with the band GRACELANDS - where Steffen sang the lead vocal and played guitar - got major airplay on the Danish radio stations with the songs "Electrified", "Climbing Into Space" and "Supersonic View".Steffen has been recording countless of records as a session musician, along with being a theatre musician on several occasions. He also found himself in a bowtie playing with Symphony Orchestras as well as representing several guitar- and FX producers at guitar clinics. Steffen started out as very young composer, writing classical songs. Now he is writing pop- and rocksongs as well as instrumental songs. For the past years Steffen has been focusing on ethnic music and been finding inspiration in both Irish folk music an Indian Rhythms. The Indian Sitar and the Bouzouki has been added to the list of instruments he's playing. Steffens guitar playing contains elements from rock/hardrock, blues, jazz/fusion and country. He has found inspiration from several of the major guitar heroes - amongst others: Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Mark Knopfler, Jeff Beck, Robben Ford, Joe Satriani, Allan Holdsworth, Frank Gambale, Bill Frisell, Van Halen, George Benson, Eric Johnson, Frank Zappa, Steve Morse, Steve Vai, Pat Metheny, Albert Lee, Paco De Lucia, John Mcloughlin and Larry Carlton. Also, classic music and composers like Bach, Beethoven, Paganini, Stravinsky and not least Stephen Sondheim have had major influence on the musical development of Steffen Schackinger - as a guitarist and as a composer.Support the show (https://www.buymeacoffee.com/titansot)

He has toured with an eclectic mix of artists, such as Lionel Richie and Richie Havens and has played with people like John Mayer, Josh Stone, Gavin Degraw, Billy Joel, Van Morrison and Jimmy Buffet to name a few. Jonathan is especially gifted at creating a mood and reading an audience to deliver a heartfelt show. Or, in the words of Evangeline Lily, who recently caught a performance at a tapas bar in Manhattan and posted on her tumblr page: "I sit enthralled, humbled, caressed, drawn in by the bewitching fingers of a Spanish guitarist. My heart melts with the wax of my dinner candle, and the words flow through my hand like the conversation and the red wine in this tapas bar. Strangers become my friends as the cold in the street insulates us in our cozy, warm nook. Life is like a dream while I brush shoulders with infinity." Jonathan's music covers the gamut of human emotions from very mellow and classical sounding to blistering uptempo Flamenco-like songs that are reminiscent of the music of Paco De Lucia, the Gipsy Kings, Ottmar Liebert or Strunz & Farrah. Even though Jonathan plays mostly his own music, he does play songs like Paco DeLucia's famous Entre Dos Aquas and the Gipsy King version of Hotel California. He enjoys playing Spanish guitar versions of popular songs but also will play different styles like Blues, Rock, RnB and Reggae, if the spirit calls for it. Jonathan regularly performs at Festivals, Corporate Events, Gallery openings, Schools, Weddings, Community Events, Private Parties, Vineyards, Fundraisers, Music Venues, Bars and Restaurants. He has recently played in Rome and Naples, Italy, Tirana, Albania, Baku, Azerbaijan, Moscow, Almaty, Kazakstan and is always inspired and influenced by the places he travels to and the people he meets.

PACO DE LUCIA: I Semana del disco. 10 octubre 1974. Pontevedra. 01. No consta título 02. 03. No consta título. Escuchar audio

Jay nails the song & topic pairing for the week with a story about the song “Long Violent History” by Tyler Childers. Written during a moment of national reflection following the killing of George Floyd, it’s now, just a few months later, being released to a country with a very different mindset. In anticipation of the blowback from some fans, Tyler released an accompanying video imploring anyone unreceptive to his desire to create empathy with his fellow black Americans to seek moral clarity over polarization & tribalism. It’s a heavy start, but a great discussion.Song: Tyler Childers - Long Violent HistoryNick brings us more songs of controversy. Van Morrison is releasing three new tracks in the near future that characterize the pandemic as a government hoax to enslave all citizens, so that sucks. We discuss whether this qualifies as a ‘protest song’, whether it was necessary for the Northern Ireland health minister to issue a full response, whether it’s socially irresponsible for Van Morrison to be saying this stuff, and where we stand on all of this crap.Song: Flaming Lips - Watching the Lightbugs GlowGreg elevates the mood considerably with the news that, despite reports from The Washington Post back in 2017, the guitar is very much alive! With sales breaking records across the country, we mostly make fun of The Washington Post, but then we return to celebrating all the new guitars in their new homes and all the great music yet to be made!Song: Al Di Meola,Paco De Lucia,John Mclaughlin - Mediterranean Sundance

Rob is an award-winning 26-year-old jazz guitarist from London whose virtuosity has been compared to that of six-string legends John McLaughlin, Al Di Meola & Paco De Lucia. Praised by The Times for performances with the National Youth Jazz Orchestra in 2015, who said he was destined ‘to achieve great things in the future’. Rob was subsequently the recipient of the 2016 Kenny Wheeler Prize from The Royal Academy of Music in association with Edition Records, and he also received the 2nd Prize in The 2016 Montreux Jazz Guitar Competition at the Montreux Jazz Festival. His debut album, “Riser”, was released on Edition Records in 2017 to widespread critical acclaim from the European jazz media. John Fordham wrote in The Guardian that it’s a “very sophisticated debut, but given Luft’s old-soul achievements since his early teens, we should have heard it coming”. On the back of the success of his first album, Rob was nominated for a string of awards – Breakthrough Act in the 2018 Jazz FM Awards, Instrumentalist of the Year in the 2018 Parliamentary Jazz Awards & Instrumentalist of the Year in the 2019 Jazz FM Awards. In May 2019, Rob was selected as BBC New Generation Jazz Artist 2019-2021, an accolade granted to “some of the world’s most exceptional young musicians”. World-renowned guitar hero Al Di Meola welcomes a new decade with an ambitious follow-up to his 2013 studio recording All Your Life: A Tribute to the Beatles with a sophomore homage to the Beatles, entitled Across The Universe, due out on earMUSIC on March 13, 2020. Al Di Meola’s exquisite mastery of the fretboard is equal only to his appreciation of the Beatles’ legacy that has inspired generations of both musicians and music fans with their famed recording catalog. A retrospective of Al Di Meola’s nearly 50-year acclaimed career expressed through his virtuosic arrangements of 14 Beatles songs, Across The Universe journeys alongside one of America’s foremost guitarists as he revisits classic hits and more obscure tunes written by the ingenious Fab Four who have helped define the man he is today. Adding to his lauded recording collection of more than 30 solo albums and numerous acclaimed collaborations with the likes of Chick Corea, John McLaughlin, Stanley Clarke, Paco De Lucia and many others, Across The Universe is yet another masterpiece showcasing Al Di Meola’s fascination with complex rhythmic syncopation combined with provocative lyrical melodies and intricate harmonies. Beatles fans, guitar-heads, and music lovers alike can expect the unexpected upon venturing into the world put forth by Across The Universe. To commemorate the singular life of John Lennon, Al Di Meola reenacts the famous Lennon cover for his 1975 solo album Rock ‘n’ Roll for the artwork for Across The Universe. Al Di Meola is a living legend celebrated for pioneering a unique style of impeccable guitar technique combined with a sophisticated global musical language that’s captured the hearts of audiences across the world. A GRAMMY Award-winner, he’s garnered three gold albums while selling more than six million albums in worldwide sales. His collaborations with artists such as Paul Simon, Phil Collins, Stevie Wonder, Jimmy Page, Santana, Steve Winwood, Herbie Hancock, Frank Zappa, Luciano Pavarotti, and others have elevated Al Di Meola to become a household name. Traversing divinely across multiple genres including flamenco, Latin, fusion, jazz, rock, and world music, Al Di Meola is a vivacious tour de force always redefining the boundaries of what’s possible on a six-stringed instrument. Across The Universe is no different than his most decorated recordings with his arsenal of a large ensemble bringing creative reinterpretations of Beatles songs to astounding heights. “I really credit the Beatles for the reason why I play guitar,” says Al Di Meola. “That was a major catalyst for me to want to learn music, so their impact was pretty strong.” Al Di Meola employs a wide lens on Across The Universe with lightening-speed electric guitar orchestrations balanced with lavish acoustic arrangements. The debut single Strawberry Fields Forever from Across The Universe (released today, January 17) is a fiery electric guitar fueled stunner backed by a red-hot rock band. Epic rock ‘n’ roll covers are sprinkled throughout the album, including the visionary take on the album opener Here Comes The Sun, as well as a riveting Hey Jude and Golden Slumbers Medley. Al Di Meola’s acoustic fingerpicking soars on Dear Prudence and Norwegian Wood, while he ventures to a jazz fusion aesthetic on Till There Was You. Across The Universe simmers to a diverse set of mid-tempo grooves on Mother Nature’s Son, Yesterday, Your Mother Should Know, I’ll Follow The Sun, and Julia. Al Di Meola features a lovely solo performance on Here, There And Everywhere. Across The Universe finishes with a short, but very sweet melodic version of Octopus’s Garden. Across The Universe will be released as a CD Digipak, 2LP and Digital on March 13, 2020 on earMUSIC.

I am actually a late starter because I didn't really start learning guitar until I was about 18 years old. My very first instrument were drums but it was not until I I heard secular music that my ears and interests opened up big time birthing the dream to be a guitar player. I soon found myself seeking to collaborate with those I could really learn from (no matter how much older they were or what genre they excelled in) and so I would pursue that opportunity while taking music courses in a junior level and mostly because I really admired any musician that had the understanding of what music was in a ledger form and so I kept trying to surround myself and tried to soak in all I could with those who could speak theory and notation and not just learn from those who though they were fine talented and amazing performers with gifted ears, yet had no real idea how to communicate it to others of a more academic level."https://www.facebook.com/ismael.vargasjrInstagram: ismaelvargasjr

It's truly inspiring to hear about the role his father had in Grisha's musical training; his search for flamenco repertoire when sheet music was a sought-after commodity in Russia at the time, his patience, his support and dedication. You'll also hear about Grisha's chance to play for Paco de Lucía and Grisha's recordings of two works by Sabicas and two more by Paco de Lucía.
