Something Shiny: ADHD!
What happens when we make mistakes?

Something Shiny: ADHD!

David asks: what about brushing your teeth and things that don't have immediate gratification, necessarily, but you have to do them over and over again? How do you motivate yourself to do them? It's preventative-you don't see what you save, you don't know what Past You did for Future You when you've brushed your teeth. David's answer is to outsource a lot of decisions that he doesn't want to make to ritual, and the world of pain is part of everything we have to do. He just does it because it's the routine (like getting up) even though it is so hard, so very hard, to do the things we don't want to do. The fact that we can feel this much pain helps us want to prevent other's pain, makes us think creatively. David might be willing to bet that a lot of technology and innovation that makes things more efficient and helps us skip the boring tedious parts is perhaps invented by folx with ADHD. For folx with ADHD, you are tested in fire all the time, and it does things—there is negative stuff (sucks experiencing rejection, sucks making mistakes, sucks not being perfect, sucks being found out)—but our ability to think outside the box because we've had to struggle our whole life is something he doesn't want to surrender. Isabelle names that it feels that David saying that expressed compassion to the part of her that didn't get that before. She thinks about how in trauma work there's this mythology around the trauma making you stronger, but also—you could've been great without the trauma, thank you. Isabelle didn't really give herself credit for the strengths, and often assigns the strengths and things that she has achieved to good fortune or luck, while taking full ownership of the blame, shame, and mistake-making parts. It has taken her a long time to not just jump straight to “I got so lucky!” And recognize that maybe she had something to do it with—and wonders if she's the only one? David names that this is so relatable—it is so hard to acknowledge that our strengths are coming from the same place our vulnerabilities are. It's so easy to say we got lucky or it was chance, because we don't get to refine the skills to know we did more than get away with something. We don't fit in the Normal Rockwell image of how things appear and so we don't think about doing things the same way others do, either. David names how a part of him would be ashamed about getting ready for a school presentation in ten minutes—instead of practicing every night for twenty minutes, like he thought he should. Never mind that he still got an A, was able to speak with great energy, that the fact his tone of voice was a little more engaging—all of those things are ADHD. David is just thinking he got away with it, because he's not counting all the times he thought about doing the thing and then didn't, because they were ‘dumb anxious thoughts,' never mind that he got it done and got a good grade, he was still a fraud because he was different. Now he can look at it in a balanced way, it's all ingredients to who we are. In the real world, you're not in trouble if you get it done too fast. Isabelle convinced herself people would think she cheated if she was honest about how she did something. We encounter so much pain, we don't need any help seeing the fault of our actions, David is really good at that—but we all need someone to remind us of what we're really good at. Folx with ADHD are used to calling out ADHD behavior when something is not going right; getting use to calling out ADHD behavior when things that are happening that are excellent, and would not be happening if not for a person's ADHD. There's so much pain, let's honor the great things. Isabelle thinks about how she was at the park with her kid on a playdate and had a snack bag and thermos with tea. She proceeded to leave this tea everywhere and put the tea everywhere, on slides, wherever, forgetting she had it, circling back, and meanwhile, her kid is playing and pushing their amazing boundaries. She always thinks someone has come in and moved something, like the realization in the film A Beautiful Mind that someone's hallucinations are so real to them they feel like reality. David calls Isabelle on calling this a delusion: somebody did move it. It was you. And you don't remember it because you didn't make a memory because you were busy doing ten other things. The whole thing is accurate. Isabelle laughs so hard and thinks she might need to get that tattooed on her: “Somebody did move it, and it was you,” Memento-style (see below). Isabelle notices that over time she is much more open and discloses more quickly that she has ADHD, in an attempt to normalize it and make it a safe conversation for the other person, too. And she notices that in the past she would maybe make it more of an apology or an explanation—don't mind me not keeping track of the tea mug, my working memory is shot—but she realizes this added dimension, that while she is beating herself up inside for losing the tea mug so often, she is also really relaxed and happy and playing with her kid, and that's an ADHD strength. David asks how often she will be upset with people for making mistakes? Isabelle names never, and may even be forgiving to a fault, it takes a lot for her to take a mistake personally. David asks: do you realize that is an existential superpower? We make more mistakes before breakfast than other people do all year; if I can make you feel better about the mistake you just made, I feel better! If I make a mistake, I'll beat myself up, but if you do, I'll find every way to preserve your self esteem and integrity. Isabelle wonders if existentially, this resonates with so many traditions and theories around the idea of not taking things so personally, witnessing the thing instead of personalizing the thing. And David names that it cannot be to a fault, you'd never knock someone for having such a worldview. And our ability to remove pain in the absence of more information is impressive. David names that our superpowers often connect to how ADHD works in us. For David, he can't remember what he just said (working memory) but he retains something he saw on a screen once that was a fun fact…forever (did you know most polar bears are left handed? That coca-cola's original color was green? That Hong Kong had the most Rolls-Royce's per capita in 1992?). Some people can recite whole movies verbatim to the character. To not have the delay in gratification skills and response cost awareness to really recognize the consequences of someone's failure, and instead be the healing they need by being understanding: this is a magic. We're good at creativity, problem-solving (not good at avoiding problems, but good at solving them), adaptability. David goes down a tangent of Kierkegaard, a philosopher who wrote a lot about anxiety being complex and connected to how much you know yourself, the more you know yourself, the more you know what to do in life. But more than that, he also named that freedom means having lots of choices at all times—something that someone with ADHD can relate to—things I can do in a given moment, how can I pick what to do? Paralysis by analysis, being stuck by so many options, how the heck do you pick something? In order to pick, when you have a lot of options, is a leap of faith (he means it more religiously, but David means it more colloquially)—leap of faith based on who you are. For example, I don't like hurting people, I like laughing, I don't like inside all the time—I might have 30 options in front of me, but only four fit that criteria. And even more than that, how do you pick amongst the four? Take a leap of faith, because you only get to know yourself through the decisions you make, not the decisions you make perfectly. Memento (the movie David and Isabelle agree is such a great movie, all about memory)Kierkegaard, a Danish philosopher that's been on David's reading list latelyFact checking David's facts: "Did you know most polar bears are left handed?" -- a common myth, but actually they're found to be ambidextrous"That coca-cola's original color was green?" -- another common myth, perhaps linked to Coca-Cola appearing in green bottlesThat Hong Kong had the most Rolls-Royce's per capita in 1992? -- not sure about 1992 but this appears to still be the case in 2021DAVID'S DEFINITIONSResponse Cost: a neurological skill that helps you know the consequences of your actions later on down the road. This is a forebrain skill that is often harder for folx with ADHD.Delay of Gratification - receiving the reward or win, well after the behavior occurs. This is another forebrain skill that is often harder for folx with ADHD.Leap of Faith: Taken from Kierkegaard, what you do when you've narrowed down which choices fit your values--while Kierkegaard meant this in a more religious sense, David means it in a sense of knowing who you are and trusting that you're only going to learn who you are through your decisions, not the decisions you make perfectly. For lecture slides, full show notes, and more, check out our website!-----Cover Art by: Sol VázquezTechnical Support by: Bobby Richards

How to Keep Good Things from Becoming God Things | Colossians 3:1-4

Series: Colossians: Supreme!Title: “How to keep good things from becoming God things”Scripture: Colossians 3:1-4(Commentary helps listed at the end)Bottom line: We keep good things from becoming God things when we set our hearts and minds on things above—where Christ sits. That is when we live in light of eternity.Opening story:This week we move from warnings (we had 4 last week) to coaching. Paul is coaching them in the direction that they should go.Many of us had a coach growing up who was influential in our life. Through sport (or dance or some other extracurricular activity) we learned not only that sport but discipline, people skills, emotional skills and in some cases spiritual wisdom. As a coach for our high school ultimate team, I'm now learning things from the other side of this relationship. One thing I know: coaching is essential for growing up into maturity. This is true in every area of life—not just the spiritual.I've actually hired my first coach. I've had coaching in ministry before, but I've never actually hired someone to help me assess, diagnose, evaluate, strategize, and be held accountable to work through the things God is calling me to do. It's humbling because you have to face your current reality with someone with nothing to lose in being totally honest with you. But it's encouraging because that's exactly what we need in life.Parents, you're not just a disciplinarian. You're a coach too (among other things). You are there to teach, rebuke, correct and train in righteousness along with many other practical things in life. Do not take this lightly. And never stop learning. Leaders are learners. When we quit learning, we quit leading. So Paul coaches the Colossians, the Laodiceans, and, well, us if we're FAT Christians (F.A.T. = Faithful, Available, Teachable). And what do coaches do? They call their team to greater heights. They train and inspire. They call us from the warnings in practice to the calling for the game. They call us to victory! Paul calls us to victory in Christ, the hope of glory! But it's natural for a player to wrestle with the flesh and fight against the training and discipline and yearn for the easy road to glory and gain. This tension is what Paul aims to empower us to overcome.Paul is giving us the antidote(s) to a preoccupation withMaterialism: Wealth, possessionsNarcissism: Status, Achievements (professionally, academically, religiously)Hedonism: Sensuality, Pleasures, gratificationsA preoccupation with these good things making them God things leads to stress, anxiety, sleeplessness, depression, hopelessness, and the desire to just give up. Ever feel any of those? Well, if you have, you've made something temporary into something eternal that was never meant to be. This is a poisonous mindset. We need an antidote. The antidote to making these good things God things is orienting your whole life around Christ Jesus as your Lord and King.Outline:In light of who Christ is, what he's done and the warnings Paul has given, Paul calls/coaches the Christians in Colossae, Laodicea and beyond to:I. What should they do? Focus on Christ's priorities:Set your heart(s) (1)Feelings PassionsWillOn things aboveHeavenly agendaGod's agenda“Where Christ is” “Seated at the right hand of God” because he's your King'sSet your mind(s)—What you think about and aim for (2)On things above (see above)Not on earthly things, like:Possessions, wealthAchievementsStatusPleasures, gratificationsReligiosityII. That is when we live in light of eternity.Place our piece of paper with our name on it into our bible. The antidotes to materialism, narcissism, and hedonism is simply centering and focusing your life in Christ and his priorities. When you rest in Christ and what he's doing, you'llServe others instead of seek to be served.Deny yourself and give instead of pursuing wealth at all costs.Live simply and give the rest away. And you'll do all of this in Christ's name and by his power for his glory. And when he appears here you'll appear there with him hearing, “Well done my good and faithful servant. Enter into your glory.”PrayLord's Supper, 1 Corinthians 11:17-32OtherPace Outline: Title: Our faith in Christ raises us to new life (3:1-4)Through our identity in and union with Christ, Jesus transforms our pursuits, perspective, and purpose in life by resetting our trajectory heavenward toward Christ Jesus. (Name on paper in the Bible illustration)I. Jesus redirects life's pursuits. (1) …from our worldly efforts for happiness to his heavenly presence in our hearts bearing the fruit of the Spirit. To redirect our pursuits requires us to recalibrate our hearts desires. How do my pursuits align with Christ's kingdom, Christ's mission, and building Christ's church? Our hearts, captivated by Christ, will more naturally help us filter and evaluate our pursuits.“Ultimately, our union with Christ should stir our affections for him and redirect our pursuits.” P. 79II. Jesus reshapes life's perspective. (2)…through the nenewing of our minds. Reshaping/renewing the mind is foundational to transformation. This is necessary for several reasons:Primarily, it “enables us to fulfill the great commission by loving God with our entire selves, including our minds.”“Also essentially because it protects us from the world's influence as the world attempts to conform our thinking to its pattern. Through the constant renewing of our minds, we can experience God's transformation in our lives (Rom 12:2).”FruitThis renewed perspective also guards our hearts and minds with God's peace as we dwell on things above.Phil 4:6-8Prov 4:23Also, by focusing on what's eternal (above), we can renew our hope in the midst of temporary afflictions/trials.2 Cor 4:16-18Rom 8:6-81 Cor 2:16Therefore, Jesus redirects our life pursuits and reshapes our life perspective as we set our hearts and minds on things above—namely Christ and his priorities.III. Jesus redefines life's purpose. (3-4) Our identity in and union with Christ also redefines our purpose. So why are we to set our hearts and minds on things above? For you (we) died andYour (our) life is hidden in Christ. The FlowEstablished past… “You (we) died” (crucified; justified; freed from penalty of sin) toThe present… “Your (our) life is hidden” (buried; sanctified; freed from the power of sin) show videohere (https://youtu.be/LNZ-ZBsPpgk) toThe future… “You (we) also will appear” (resurrected; glorified; freed from the presence of sin)“We died with Christ, we were buried with Christ, and we have been raised with Christ and therefore will appear with Christ in glory.” -D MooHow does this present reality (Identity and union with Christ) reset our trajectory towards things above (eternity):Our hidden life in Christ:Signifies our personal relationship with Christ,Affirms our security of our salvation in Christ, andCertifies our glorious inheritance with Christ. Therefore, bothOur “hidden” life in Christ, andHis indwelling “life” in us will be fully revealed when he returns “in glory” (1 John 3:2)This future fulfillment of our current identity in Christ should redefine our purpose in multiple ways:The glory of Christ's return reminds us of there temporal nature of this world and the fleeting value of it's possessions and pleasures. Therefore, we shouldn't be deceived by vain pursuit of earthly wealth, achievement, status, or gratification. The certainty of Christ's return gives us assurance that allows us to live with confidence in a world filled with uncertainty. Therefore we can endure hardships and persevere by fixing our hope on the grace and glory tha twill be revealed at the coming of Christ. The imminence of Christ's return should motivate us to live with urgency.Christ brings hope and Christ brings judgmentThereforeWe anticipate eternal union with Christ butWe work urgently to lead others to come with usThereforeWe live as ambassadors of Christ asWe rest in the comfort of our eternal future with ChristThereforeWe celebrate his presenceHere and nowHereafter, but alsoWe live as citizens of heaven full ofHopeUrgency“…we should collectively seek and set our minds on things above that we share in common with other believers. We should live with holy anticipation of Christ's return as we celebrate our new life in him and devote ourselves to the mission of seeing others liberated from the bondage of sin to inherit the eternal promises of King Jesus!” P. 82Hughes' outline: Title: “The Seeking of Things Above”I. Instructions (Coaching) regarding our fullness (1-2)Seek is present (continuous) imperative (commanded). Therefore, a continuous command. How do we seek Christ?Kind of like you should seek your future husband or wife (not just a date):Pray for opportunities to be togetherGet to know them through conversationTreat them as you wish to be treated; love as you want to be loved (lust ≠ love)Serve themBe honest with themListening >> talking, but to talk is to be vulnerable, approachable; conversation should be like tennis. Return a returnable ball. Too many people just answer the other person's question. They rarely realize it's their turn to return with a question. We have an amazing lack of interest in other people. Love inquires. Love listens. Love cares enough to inquire and listen.Write and read love lettersPray togetherMake disciples togetherAffirm God's gifts in each otherWorship togetherIntroduce them to your parents and ask for their blessing before pursuing the relationship further (both guys and gals here)II. The reasoning behind Paul's instructions (Coaching). (3-4) There are at least 2:Past…“You died…”“Life hidden…” imperfect = ongoing effects of dying/continuous dying to self because we are in Christ and Christ is in God, we are inseparable and securePaper with my name on it in the Bible = “in Christ”Christ's fullness fills our emptiness apart from ChristFuture…When he appears hereWe will appear there (in glory); We'll join him there in our new bodies Phil 3:20-21Romans 8:29-31 (not written for unbelievers)Therefore, “Let's covenant to not fix our thoughts on the material and immaterial things of this world, but to 1) pray for minds set on things above, to 2) hold the scriptures close to our hearts, to 3) reflect on our past history, and to 4) rejoice in anticipation of our future in him.” P. 299Application:Pray for minds set on things above,Hold the scriptures close to our hearts,Reflect on our past history, andRejoice in anticipation of our future in Christ.OTHER ILLUSTRATIONS:Print this and cut this out to share with your people to insert into their own bibles.———————————————————————————————————————————————————————-Name:Understanding that, as a Christian, you are “in” Christ Jesus revolutionizes how you see yourself, your self-image, your identity and how you understand your value to God.Write your name on a piece of paper. You are not part of the book, but you are now identified totally with the book.Paul uses the expression, “In Christ Jesus”, over and over again. ####TAPESCRIPT#### Hello everyone! This is teacher Carol Pinho, and here is our new episode of Carol Tips! Remember that this audio tapescript is available in the podcast description! Today we will talk about  HAVE SOMETHING DONE In English, if I say: I CUT MY HAIR YESTERDAY, I mean I, myself, with my hands, cut my own hair. It doesn't mean I paid someone else, like a hairdresser, to cut my hair for me. When I say: I AM PAINTING MY APARTMENT, I am telling you that I am painting the walls myself, using my hands. Ok! So, Teacher! How can I inform that I paid someone to do something for me? We use HAVE SOMETHING DONE. The structure is simple: we use HAVE in the verbal tense that we want. For example: I have or He has  (for Simple Present) She will have (for the Future) They had (for the Past) You should have (when we talk about modal verbs) He has never had (for Present Perfect) After HAVE, we use the SOMETHING, which is, in the previous examples, the hair, the apartment or the walls. Then, we use the verb in the participle form, which is the 3rd column of the verbs Like in: I had my hair cut yesterday. (I am telling you that I got someone else to cut my hair for me yesterday) I am having my apartment painted this week. (someone is painting my apartment this week, not me) I will have my car washed next Saturday (I will pay a person to wash my car for me next Saturday, I won't wash it myself) Lisa had the roof repaired yesterday (Lisa paid someone to repair her damaged roof) My husband has his beard trimmed at the same barbershop. (He pays the same barber to trim his beard) We had our shower fixed two days ago. (We called someone to fix our broken shower) We can use it in NEGATIVE form: I don't have my hair cut. I cut it myself. We didn't have the car washed last week. It is so dirty! She doesn't have the house cleaned, because she doesn't like other people in her house. I won't have my nails polished this week. I will polish them myself. And, we can also use it in INTERROGATIVE sentences, like: Did you have your hair cut? Does she have her nails polished every week? Will you have the car washed next Saturday? That's it! Hope you like it! Follow us on Instagram as well! Search for @carolpinhoefl! See you on the next episode of Carol Tips!

With many countries in “lockdown” in a bid to stop the spread of coronavirus, businesses have been forced to adopt a remote work model.  If you own a recruitment business, managing recruiters remotely presents some significant challenges.  How do you keep your team members motivated and engaged?  How can you ensure people are productive without physically being there to supervise them?  In this episode of The Resilient Recruiter my very special guest, Ann Zaslow-Rethaber joins me to share her insights on running a successful team based on 20+ years of experience managing remote recruiters. Ann has been a recruiter since 1996 and she is the President of the International Search Consultants (ISC), a global executive recruitment firm. Ann launched ISC in 1999 her company has become one of the most reputable search firms in the United States, earning more recommendations on LinkedIn than any third party recruitment agency in the country.  Episode Outline and Highlights [2:30] Ann talks about visiting Mark in Scotland and shares her philosophy of investing in experiences and relationships instead of collecting “things.”  [5:17] Why Ann considers the Pandemic situation a “golden opportunity.”  [14:47] Two business principles to help you and your remote team stay on top of things. [22:52] How to hold your remote team accountable -- Ann explains two significant factors. [28:52] Praise vs Criticism: which is better for increasing your team's performance? [35:17] A very powerful approach to help managers create accountability.  [41:43] Three things that Ann would have done differently if she knew then what she knows today. [45:43] Ann's story -- from flight attendant to top producing recruiter; how being a working mother forced her to become super-productive Successful Remote Working Even Prior to the Pandemic Ann was already set-up for remote working prior to the coronavirus pandemic. If you want to listen to her strategy and how she achieved $142,000 in billing in one month, you may want to listen to our previous interview - look for the link below under People and Resources.  The Importance of Investing in a Great Working Relationship With the current difficult situation we are facing with the Pandemic, there is a tendency for some recruiters to become radio silent with their clients. On the contrary, now is the time to be close and to stay in contact with clients. Ann is doing just that. She believes that now is the golden opportunity to walk the talk. She ensured to have her team message their clients, with the focus on saying  “I'm just touching base, and letting you know that we're here.” Ann also shared her thoughts on why “time is the most valuable thing that any of us have.” As Ann puts it, “Just human compassion. You don't always have to make money off a relationship, you can just have the working relationship because you like the person and you want to check on them. I think it's a golden opportunity to walk that walk.” Overcoming Remote Working Challenges Remote working is now becoming more and more common. “The negatives in the past have always been synergy and making people accountable.” as Ann recalled. However, with the current technology available, working virtually is actually resulting in a lot of good results. Ann said, “There are so many benefits from working virtually and not requiring people to get in cars or to get in planes to drive from one place to the other.” Would it be possible to manage a virtual team as if you are managing people in the same location? Ann stated, “Twice a week meetings, daily meetings, touching base, anything that you can do live just about you can do online with this amazing technology that we all have.” Learning from the Past You'll enjoy Ann's story on how she went from being a flight attendant to becoming a top biller in the recruitment industry. Also, hear her insights on three things that she considers she would have done differently when building her business if she knew then what she knows now.  Connect with Ann Zaslow-Rethaber: Ann on LinkedIn Ann on Twitter @annzaslow International Search Consultants (ISC) website International Search Consultants (ISC) on LinkedIn International Search Consultants (ISC) on Facebook International Search Consultants (ISC) on Twitter @iscjobs People and Resources Mentioned: JobAdder on LinkedIn GeekSquad on LinkedIn Case Study: Recruiting Firm Owner Achieves New Personal Best, Billing $142,000 in One Month, by Mark Whitby. Overcoming Loss: Past, Present, & Future

Not only is loss a part of life, but it’s also a part of every day. Every day you are losing time. This can be precious well celebrated time or squandered ill-managed time. This is the choice you have. What did you choose today? Life is a work in progress so don’t beat yourself up - we are going to talk through some ideas. Past: You can revisit your past with regret, replaying all the mistakes and missed opportunities OR you can forgive yourself for the questionable choices you might have made and help your mind find the lesson that molded the person you are today. In this find gratitude.   Present: You can let daily challenges stop you from experiencing the joy that awaits you, keeping you stuck in a cycle while the hours waste away OR you can take each challenge for what it is, solving it or releasing it while you search for the good in the day. Future: You can spend time worrying about the unknown of the days to come writing your future story based on the assumptions of today OR you realize that today is enough and you are learning and growing every hour and with that comes progress and peace that will get you where you need to go. How many times have you heard - Just let it go? Get over it? Why isn’t it that easy? Ruminating or getting stuck is a real thing. Psychological studies state that rumination seems to be correlated to “cognitive incompetence” and “cognitive consciousness“. It means that ruminating individuals are very well aware and conscious of their negative thoughts. They think about past experiences over and over again – up to a point where the thoughts create their own reality, sometimes exaggerating or even differing from what really happened. Ruminators often believe that their rumination will lead to solving a problem, but it really creates a loop where they are stuck in their own thoughts. Cognitive incompetence means that they cannot find their way out of the loop. Letting go can be difficult. Letting go of people, ideas, expectations, desires; letting go of bad habits, false beliefs, and unhealthy relationships... the list goes on. Every day, every moment presents an opportunity to create ourselves anew, to shrug off the baggage of the past, open ourselves up to the possibility of the moment and take action to create an incredible future. CHALLENGE: Choose to value your time as a precious gift. Evaluate anything that threatens to steal that and replace it with worry, anxiety, or fear. Stay present and realize loss is inevitable but grief is temporary.     I know YOU can do it!

Explore Your Enthusiasm, with Tara Swiger | Craft | Art | Business

How can you plan for your business when everything in your life is uncertain? When you’re not sure where you’ll be next week or next month? You may be great at planning normal life, but what about when there’s a family illness, a new baby, a new job, a big move, a divorce, or just the uncertainty of life? Let’s talk through how to ride these waves of uncertainty. As you know, I’m in a really uncertain season of my life as a foster parent. Heck, as you listen to this, my whole family may have changed shape (again!). How can you plan for just running your business or growing your business when everything is so uncertain? Week to Week Here are my suggestions: Make a list of what is the core function of your business and what has to be done to make sales. Ruthlessly cut everything else. Remind yourself that this is just for now. For this season. Things will change, you’ll have more certainty and then you can add back in all the not-mission-critical-top-priority stuff. Each week, look at what’s ahead on your calendar and what you need to do this week on top of the usual, and find the time in your week. Go on and schedule the chunks of time for work, in whatever system works for you. Something flexible, like Google calendar or post-its on your paper planner. Even if you never wrote down work times in your schedule before, now is the time to do it, because you want to first identify those times when you can work (your freaked-out brain will tell you that you NEVER have time) and then not MISS them. You always want to make sure you’ve got enough time and if you truly don’t, you get to recognize that now, when you’re planning, so you can adjust your expectations. Change your mindset to value flexibility. Your past focus may have been productivity, so this may be an adjustment. If you’re in a time of uncertainty, something may come up and you’ll need to move the work you had planned. You’re going to be productive if you can be flexible and if you’re not all or nothing about your work times. (This has been a real struggle for me.) Work when you can, manage expectations, and give yourself credit for getting ANYTHING done. You’ll notice that this comes down to two skills you have to practice: flexibility and managing expectations. You’ll need to let go of what Past You got done. Embrace the constraints on New You and celebrate what she’s able to do, even in the midst of all this uncertainty. And lemme tell you, that, for me, was the hardest part. Not comparing Mom Tara with what Past Tara could do. Not just because Past Tara had more time, but because Mom Tara had a lot more on her mind and had a hard time focusing. Long Term Planning Now, what about planning long term projects, like applying to craft shows or traveling to events? This is definitely something I’ve struggled a LOT with. Should I plan that trip if I may not be able to go? I skipped out on a trip to Europe, which was paid for except my flight, because I thought we’d have a kid in our home. Well, we did not have a kid in our home and I was in the middle of mourning the loss of our first placement. Should I have planned it anyhow? I’m not sure. I still don’t know if I made the right decision or not, but I’ve decided to just let it go. Should you apply to that craft show if you may have to stay home? The truth is, I can’t tell you what you should do. You need to make your own decision based on your own comfort with risk, canceling and regret. Take into account: How comfortable you are with having to cancel. How upset you’ll be if it ends up you could have done this event and then didn’t do it. The fact is, you may need to adjust how comfortable you are with cancelling. For years, I have followed through on every webinar plan I made. If I said I was going live next Wednesday, I’d do it. But the changing foster placements meant that I either had to NEVER plan another webinar, OR I had to just accept that I would plan things and not follow through. Since a free webinar getting cancelled doesn’t hurt anyone, I’m fine with that. But I won’t be selling anything I can’t follow through on, because I’m not going to cancel what you paid for (although I have had to reschedule some things!). So you have to think through this for yourself. Are you OK with applying to a craft show you need to cancel on? Will you be more upset if you don’t  apply but it ends up you could have gone? These are hard decisions, but just keep in mind: You will be ok no matter what. I hope this has helped you think through your own plans, and that if you’re not in an uncertain place right now, you can come back to this episode when you are. If you are in an uncertain place right now I just want to tell you that I am proud of you. You are doing a good job. I’m sorry you’re going through this and I believe in you. Your business will be OK.   Listen in at TaraSwiger.com/podcast254

However, none of these have dealt with the two most basic principles of geopolitical upheaval: The Uncertainty Principle; and, Chaos Theory. As a preface to this treatise, may I direct you to The Art of Christian Warfare series located in the online study forum at The University of Excellence. My reason for doing so is twofold: Your first line of defense should be spiritual warfare; and, What good is it to know – or think you know – about eschatological (end time) warfare if you are not prepared for warfare in the present. Also, if you just “happen” to be positioned in the segue to tribulation time(s), you will … above all else … need to know all you can about spiritual warfare. The Uncertainty Principle The Uncertainty Principle is basic to every day life. Having learned such is your first doorway to maximum (natural) achievement in any long term endeavor. You might want to study my two publications dealing with the Principle of Uncertainty as it relates to the following: 2012 Synopsis of End Time Alignment of Nations CHINA has much to gain from the demise of the US … and the US dollar, as opposed to India, who only wants positioning on the NEW Global Currency as part of world economic leadership. However, China has plans in place for the downfall of the USA in international psychology, or game theory – similar to intercorporate group dynamics – and based upon the Nash Equilibrium. Prince Handley believes that China will at some point in the next 5 to 7 years assume an already SECRETLY SCHEDULED strategy – replacing its “seeming” position as regards its “partners of probability” in the Nash Equilibrium scenarios – of The Kuebler-Ross Model of Change, and use SHOCK to their advantage in order to argue for ACCEPTANCE in the 10 region New Global Governance along with Islam … to the rejection of its diplomatic ties with not only its other competitors, but mainly its diplomatic friend: Israel. Faith, Quantum Physics and Your Future One reason you need to see the future – and to understand the influence of uncertainty – is so you can effectively profit from: The past and present: The nature of reality; and, The operation of faith. The Past You may march off to the woods or go to war without having a knowledge of history, or as one who suffers from amnesia, but you can perform neither effectively nor optimally. The Present To advance into the Future, you must occupy a position in the present. The Future If you don't relate to the future, you can NOT minimize latency with the past and the present; therefore, you do not interact with optimal information for decision making and action. As stated above, to advance into the future you must have a quantized / momentary position in the present (you need a position from which to advance); And, for logistical purposes you require: Knowledge; Material; Experience; and, Networks. All of the above are derived from the past … even though you are operating in the momentary, quantized, present, The “present” will be the past location when you advance. For all practical purposes, we (as a Global Society) can forget about climate change and long term environmental mandates. These will prove to be miniscule efforts and will have microscopic results in relation to what is set to happen. These expenditures of time, labor and money would be much better spent on providing: 1. Relief efforts to famine stricken areas; and, 2. Water wells to areas who have no or minimal clean water resources. We learn from The Revelation that in the future the following three life critical emements are going to be toxically contaminated to the extent of harmful effects on the human race: Soil, Air, Water. I suggest you refer to Revelation and End Times: A Flow Chart of End Time Happenings. The influence of uncertainty is NOT even on the agenda of most prophecy writers – or readers. What IF all the money received from books, TV, DVD's and seminars dealing with prophecy and end times were redirected towards future strategies dealing with the influence of uncertainty in the end times. Let me give you just two examples: What about the other believing Jews around the world (in the Time of Jacob's Trouble … the Great Tribulation) who do NOT make it to the place prepared in the wilderness (maybe Petra?) where the believing Jews flee from the pseudo messiah? (See Brit Chadashah: Revelation 12:13-17.) What about creating mass media advertising about Mashiach, the End Times, and the “pseudo mashiach” to prepare Jews and others for what we know is really going to happen in the End Time. A marketing blitz that will NOT be forgotten; one that will cause people to think and remember – and be aware – of WHAT is really happening WHEN it happens! Chaos Theory The Uncertainty Principle prohibits accuracy. The evolution of a complex system can therefore NOT be accurately predicted … except by skeletal “waymarks” such as in Bible prophecy. The two main components of chaos theory are the ideas that systems - no matter how complex they may be - rely upon an underlying order, and that very simple or small systems and events can cause very complex behaviors or events. This latter idea is known as sensitive dependence on initial conditions , a circumstance discovered by Edward Lorenz (who is generally credited as the first experimenter in the area of chaos) in the early 1960s. However, Chaos Theory allows for GREAT departure – and at the same time – possible overlapping or “nearly repetitive cycles” of the initial conditions. For example, the “Seal, Trumpet and Bowl” judgments in the Book of Revelation might NOT have to be only consecutive or segmentally chronological. They may overlap … they may coincide … they may be simultaneous after unfolding … and, they may have NO predictability … EXCEPT that we KNOW they will happen! Summary As good stewards of Messiah Yeshua, because of the influence of uncertainty and the complex behaviors inherent with chaos dynamics, we must prepare and publish a worldwide permanent body of knowledge structured upon Biblical Prophecy for the following:   Easily accessible and permanent information about Future Environmental Toxicity (the Judgments of The Revelation) – WHAT to do (i.e., how to know Messiah Yeshua); and, Media preparation for Jews, Israel, and Gentiles – WHAT will happen and WHY! ______________________________________________________________ CHALLENGE: Will you be the one to create and implement an End Time MEDIA project toinform Jews, Israel and Gentiles of WHAT will happen soon on Planet Earth?_______________________________________________________ We must also ramp up on spiritual warfare: both individually and corporately as members together in Messiah's Body. Maintain “looking for His appearing,” but stop arguing with other believers about when or when not the “rapture” will happen. (It wasn't a doctrine in the church until the 1800's anyway.) Fellowship with other believers; focus on the KEY prophecies, and win people to Messiah Jesus! Lots of people I talk to say they are going to WAIT until the Believers are missing, and then they will receive Jesus. We need to tell them WHAT is going to happen … and to get ready NOW ... because a strong delusion is going to be sent upon the Planet Earth. Make sure YOU are ready for whatever happens … whenever it happens: the Lord Jesus “catching you up” … or the judgments falling first. I have attended the BEST Christian conservative theological seminaries in the world; one, just to study eschatology (plus the University of Judaism). Also, I studied under four of the top Hebrew and Greek scholars who worked on the NASV. Our view of WHEN the Believers in Messiah will be caught up in the air to be with Him is something WE decide for ourself … but WHEN He actually does this may be different. Our job is to watch for His Appearing! Many evangelical Bible teachers changed their view in the last 20 years?! My view of WHEN the Lord will "catch away" His People will NOT change WHEN He does it. I'm just going to keep looking for ... and loving ... His return! Here's something to think about: If we get mad at other Believers about their view of the “rapture” … OR … if WE don't or can't fellowship with other believers because of their view of the “rapture” … guess who needs help! Keep watching for His Great Appearing! ___________________________ OPPORTUNITY TO  HELP US ADVANCE We do NEW things for the LORD … Holy Spirit things!
