A psychologist told me to do a body scan. I was lying on hard yellow grass in 38-degree heat with three kids screaming inside and ants on my arms, trying to feel my body. I felt nothing. Afstandsmoeders. I picked up the kids in my husband's car the other day. The youngest said something. The next one waited until they finished, then said something back. There was a pause. I turned around and looked at three kids not even fighting and thought, is this how pickup goes? In my car, it's on the second they get in. Kyle Scheele went from 17 TikTok followers to a million in 25 hours — not because he had a strategy, but because he finally stopped waiting for the right time and posted the video. In Part 2, he and Dwayne walk through the five things every idea needs to make it into the world, why AI is a sycophancy machine that will confidently tell you exactly what you want to hear, and why creativity is a team sport — and always has been. In Part 2 of this episode: The five things every idea needs — a chance, a home, a time and place, a bodyguard, and a crew — and the specific, practical way each one applies inside a business or organization Why Kyle went from 17 followers to a million on TikTok in 25 hours: a one-minute video about photoshopping his dad's tilted head in a family portrait, and the James Joyce principle that explains why the most particular stories become the most universal The chemical company story: a PhD chemist had known for years that her company's product would work perfectly in another industry — and never said anything, because no one asked Why AI is good at the "I" and the "A" of the idea cycle (inspiration and action) but can't do discovery or evolution — because those require taste, distaste, and skin in the game that no algorithm has How fear of running out of money drove Kyle's entire entrepreneurial career — and why that fear, managed well, doesn't make you play small, it makes you play smart. It opened so many doors for me, and that all happened off a video that I almost didn't post because I almost didn't post any of them because I was waiting for the right time and the right place. “ - Kyle Scheele “ Give everyone notebooks on your team. Just give them a pocket notebook and go, "Hey, here's the things I want you to start looking for. This week, here's a focus.” - Kyle Scheele “ The reasonable man adapts himself to the world. The unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man." - George Bernard Shaw (quoted by Kyle Scheele) “ If you're not innovating, you're dying, and that is just the truth.” - Dwayne Kerrigan About Kyle Scheele: Kyle is an author, speaker, and creativity expert known for turning bold ideas into unforgettable results — from hosting a Viking funeral for the regrets of 21,000 people to launching the world's first fake marathon. Most people think creativity is something you either have or you don't — a gift, a gene, a mysterious lightning bolt that strikes a chosen few. Kyle Scheele has spent his career dismantling that belief, and in this conversation he makes the case that creativity isn't magic at all. It's problem-solving. And everyone already does it, every single day.In Part 1 of this episode: Why your brain is not a truth-seeking machine — it's a belief justification machine: give it the belief "I'm not creative" and it will spend the rest of your life finding evidence to prove you rightKyle's spontaneous ideation theory — the creativity myth he compares to the 17th century scientific belief that dirty rags and wheat kernels spontaneously generated mice, and why most people's understanding of where ideas come from is just as wrongThe coffee shop moment that defined Kyle's career: his friend Isaac told him, "most people come in here, talk about an idea, and the next time you hear about it, it's just an idea again — you come in two days later editing the footage"How Kyle went from broke high schooler selling "Osteoporosis is bad to the bone" T-shirts out of the school lunch room to getting a line into Urban Outfitters in his first year of college — and what that early experience installed in him about figuring things outWhy 70% of the time, when companies give their teams the bandwidth to explore a challenge internally, the answer is already there — it's just inside the head of someone who hasn't been asked yet (Harvard Business Review, cited on stage)Content Warning: This episode includes a brief discussion of childhood suicidal ideation. Kyle shares openly about his experience as a child feeling isolated in school and experiencing dark thoughts, before a friendship changed his perspective.

In this conversation with Brian Buffini, Kyle Scheele discusses how to tap into your creativity, be courageous, and try something new. In doing so, you can break free from the misconceptions you might have about yourself and reach goals you once thought unattainable. YOU WILL LEARN How to redefine creativity and then tap into it. Why curiosity and persistence are critical for innovation to prosper. How to take the first step toward your “crazy” idea and make it real. MENTIONED IN THIS EPISODE How to Host a Viking Funeral: The Case for Burning Your Regrets, Chasing Your Crazy Ideas, and Becoming the Person You're Meant to Be by Kyle Scheele NOTEWORTHY QUOTES FROM THIS EPISODE “I define creativity as broadly as possible. I think that anytime you make anything new, that is a creative act.” — Kyle Scheele "We're desperate for predictability, but we're also desperate for new. We're desperate for novel.” — Kyle Scheele "The people who changed the world, they weren't smarter than you, they weren't better than you, they were just curious and persistent and those are things that you can cultivate in yourself.” — Kyle Scheele "Sometimes all a kid needs is one adult going, ‘I don't know, man, give it a shot.' I think that's some of the best advice I've ever gotten.” — Kyle Scheele "One of the things that I learned from surveying 21,000 people about their regrets is that people regret things that they didn't do way more than they regret things that they did.” — Kyle Scheele Hosted on Acast. Keynote speaker Kyle Scheele, known as the “Patron Saint ofCrazy Ideas,” shares why creativity thrives not in limitless freedom, but within real-world constraints. Drawing from his FCCMA 2025 keynote, Kyle encourages local government leaders to embrace limited time, tight budgets, and small teams as the conditions where great ideas are born. He urges listeners to build environments where “lightning strikes more often” by combining existing ideas in new ways and making space for creativity to flourish.
This week social anthropologist Dr. Judith Scheele joins in from France to talk about her decades of research into the diverse and fascinating peoples and places of the Sahara Desert.About our guest:Judith Scheele is professor of social anthropology at the École des hautes études en sciences sociales (School for Advanced Studies in the Social Sciences, EHESS). What comes to mind when we think about the Sahara? Rippling sand dunes, sun-blasted expanses, camel drivers and their caravans perhaps. Or famine, climate change, civil war, desperate migrants stuck in a hostile environment. The Sahara stretches across 3.2 million square miles, hosting several million inhabitants and a corresponding variety of languages, cultures, and livelihoods. But beyond ready-made images of exoticism and squalor, we know surprisingly little about its history and the people who call it home. Shifting Sands is about that other Sahara, not the empty wasteland of the romantic imagination but the vast and highly differentiated space in which Saharan peoples and, increasingly, new arrivals from other parts of Africa live, work, and move. It takes us from the ancient Roman Empire through the bloody colonial era to the geopolitics of the present, questioning easy clichés and exposing fascinating truths along the way. From the geology of the region to the religions, languages, and cultural and political forces that shape and fracture it, this landmark book tells the compelling story of a place that sits at the heart of our world, and whose future holds implications for us all. Judith Scheele is a social anthropologist with a special interest in the Sahara and neighbouring areas. She has carried out long-term fieldwork in Algeria, Mali and Chad. Her research focuses on exchange, mobility, and local and regional interdependence, with the aim of developing a comparative framework that would allow us to analyse the Sahara as a region, in drawing on its own ethnographic and historical categories. Kyle Scheele is a speaker, author, content creator, and self-described “maker of weird stuff for the internet.” He's built a Viking ship out of cardboard, faked a marathon that went viral, and inspired thousands to let go of regret. And yet it's the heart behind it all that will move you most. Today, Kyle shares what it was like to grow up feeling like the “dangerous kid” no one wanted around, how one friend in fourth grade changed the course of his entire life, and why he believes creativity isn't just for fun... it's a lifeline. He opens up about the early pain that shaped him, the audacity that built his career, and the surprising ways silly ideas can lead to sacred moments. My friends, if you need a reminder that your story matters (even the weird, messy, unfinished parts!) this conversation is for you. You'll leave it with a new way to see your past, your regrets, and your voice... And most importantly, the permission to try that bold idea you've been quietly dreaming about.

“When you have an idea, you should capture that idea and put it somewhere, because you're basically training your brain that ideas are important and I value them.”Finding your own brand of creativity and being unique can feel like a struggle in the beginning stages of your career. This week, Kyle Scheele joins us to share some tips on that topic drawn from his own journey of using his crazy ideas to stand out. Kyle started his career early in life when he landed a t-shirt line through Urban Outfitters across the USA and Canada. Over the course of his speaking career, Kyle has gone viral on TikTok multiple times, spoken to both youth audiences and corporate events, and over time switched paths from primarily speaking in the education space to working with larger corporate events. He believes his approachability, understandable advice, and genuine entertainment have taken him to the next level, and he's here to tell you how to develop those things for yourself. However, at every stage of his career (like most speakers), Kyle has had his doubts about the risks he took. During this episode, Kyle talks about how he overcame those fears by knowing and believing that he had talking points that worked. Trial and error can be difficult to embrace, but it's a key part of learning how to grow as a world-renowned speaker. This is a great episode with a lot of practical lessons for speakers — both new and veteran alike. You'll learn:How to find where your story intersects with the marketWhy you need to question assumptionsThe importance of honest feedbackWhy you should lean on the content in your speech that worksHow to act on your ideasAnd much, much more!“To be human is to be creative.”Episode Resources:Kyle's WebsiteGet Free Speaker ResourcesBook a Call with The Speaker LabCalculate Your Speaking FeeJoin The Speaker Lab Community on FacebookSubscribe on Apple PodcastsSubscribe on SpotifySee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

“What we need is a way to bring a person into an environment in which they can contact the rich resources that are already within them.” Paraliminals are a unique tool designed by Dr. Paul Scheele to tap into the innate resources within individuals, what he calls, ‘the true self'. The term "paraliminal" refers tomoving beyond the threshold of the conscious mind, allowing us to access the wealth of non-conscious resources. Unlike subliminals, paraliminals are processed in the consciousmind, offering a bridge between the conscious and un-conscious mind. Dr. Scheele is a respected member of the Transformational Leadership Council. He talks about how he came to paraliminals and his meaningful career in personal development. As a young person, Dr. Scheele faced anxiety. He found comfort in prayer and then explored meditation and hypnosis. Surprisingly, he ended up running the oldest hypnosis practice in Minneapolis at just 20 years old. Later, he pursued degrees in training and development, eventually earning a Ph.D. in leadership and change. Dr. Scheele shares how the idea for paraliminals came to him in a message during meditation. He wanted to create something that helps people connect with their inner strengths.Paraliminals, with their unique design and features, help connect with the part of the mind that brings about positive change. Dr. Scheele has many touching stories from people who've benefited greatly Including people with cancer, people overcoming the stresses of school, and facing changes.
