In this conversation with Brian Buffini, Kyle Scheele discusses how to tap into your creativity, be courageous, and try something new. In doing so, you can break free from the misconceptions you might have about yourself and reach goals you once thought unattainable. YOU WILL LEARN How to redefine creativity and then tap into it. Why curiosity and persistence are critical for innovation to prosper. How to take the first step toward your “crazy” idea and make it real. MENTIONED IN THIS EPISODE How to Host a Viking Funeral: The Case for Burning Your Regrets, Chasing Your Crazy Ideas, and Becoming the Person You're Meant to Be by Kyle Scheele NOTEWORTHY QUOTES FROM THIS EPISODE “I define creativity as broadly as possible. I think that anytime you make anything new, that is a creative act.” — Kyle Scheele "We're desperate for predictability, but we're also desperate for new. We're desperate for novel.” — Kyle Scheele "The people who changed the world, they weren't smarter than you, they weren't better than you, they were just curious and persistent and those are things that you can cultivate in yourself.” — Kyle Scheele "Sometimes all a kid needs is one adult going, ‘I don't know, man, give it a shot.' I think that's some of the best advice I've ever gotten.” — Kyle Scheele "One of the things that I learned from surveying 21,000 people about their regrets is that people regret things that they didn't do way more than they regret things that they did.” — Kyle Scheele Hosted on Acast.
Her legger vi diskusjonen død én gang for alle. Ps: Vi prater selvsagt om dekk, demperoppsett, Fox Live Valve, om 29/29 er raskere enn 29/27.5 ... Praten flyter lenge! Keynote speaker Kyle Scheele, known as the “Patron Saint ofCrazy Ideas,” shares why creativity thrives not in limitless freedom, but within real-world constraints. Drawing from his FCCMA 2025 keynote, Kyle encourages local government leaders to embrace limited time, tight budgets, and small teams as the conditions where great ideas are born. He urges listeners to build environments where “lightning strikes more often” by combining existing ideas in new ways and making space for creativity to flourish.
This week social anthropologist Dr. Judith Scheele joins in from France to talk about her decades of research into the diverse and fascinating peoples and places of the Sahara Desert.About our guest:Judith Scheele is professor of social anthropology at the École des hautes études en sciences sociales (School for Advanced Studies in the Social Sciences, EHESS). She has spent almost two decades living in and researching Saharan societies. The author of three previous books, she now lives in Marseille, France.Find her book: https://amzn.to/3U8X19Y
What comes to mind when we think about the Sahara? Rippling sand dunes, sun-blasted expanses, camel drivers and their caravans perhaps. Or famine, climate change, civil war, desperate migrants stuck in a hostile environment. The Sahara stretches across 3.2 million square miles, hosting several million inhabitants and a corresponding variety of languages, cultures, and livelihoods. But beyond ready-made images of exoticism and squalor, we know surprisingly little about its history and the people who call it home. Shifting Sands is about that other Sahara, not the empty wasteland of the romantic imagination but the vast and highly differentiated space in which Saharan peoples and, increasingly, new arrivals from other parts of Africa live, work, and move. It takes us from the ancient Roman Empire through the bloody colonial era to the geopolitics of the present, questioning easy clichés and exposing fascinating truths along the way. From the geology of the region to the religions, languages, and cultural and political forces that shape and fracture it, this landmark book tells the compelling story of a place that sits at the heart of our world, and whose future holds implications for us all. Judith Scheele is a social anthropologist with a special interest in the Sahara and neighbouring areas. She has carried out long-term fieldwork in Algeria, Mali and Chad. Her research focuses on exchange, mobility, and local and regional interdependence, with the aim of developing a comparative framework that would allow us to analyse the Sahara as a region, in drawing on its own ethnographic and historical categories. Sidney Michelini is a post-doctoral researcher working on Ecology, Climate, and Violence at the Peace Research Institute of Frankfurt (PRIF). Kyle Scheele is a speaker, author, content creator, and self-described “maker of weird stuff for the internet.” He's built a Viking ship out of cardboard, faked a marathon that went viral, and inspired thousands to let go of regret. And yet it's the heart behind it all that will move you most. Today, Kyle shares what it was like to grow up feeling like the “dangerous kid” no one wanted around, how one friend in fourth grade changed the course of his entire life, and why he believes creativity isn't just for fun... it's a lifeline. He opens up about the early pain that shaped him, the audacity that built his career, and the surprising ways silly ideas can lead to sacred moments. My friends, if you need a reminder that your story matters (even the weird, messy, unfinished parts!) this conversation is for you. You'll leave it with a new way to see your past, your regrets, and your voice... And most importantly, the permission to try that bold idea you've been quietly dreaming about.

“When you have an idea, you should capture that idea and put it somewhere, because you're basically training your brain that ideas are important and I value them.”Finding your own brand of creativity and being unique can feel like a struggle in the beginning stages of your career. This week, Kyle Scheele joins us to share some tips on that topic drawn from his own journey of using his crazy ideas to stand out. Kyle started his career early in life when he landed a t-shirt line through Urban Outfitters across the USA and Canada. Over the course of his speaking career, Kyle has gone viral on TikTok multiple times, spoken to both youth audiences and corporate events, and over time switched paths from primarily speaking in the education space to working with larger corporate events. He believes his approachability, understandable advice, and genuine entertainment have taken him to the next level, and he's here to tell you how to develop those things for yourself. However, at every stage of his career (like most speakers), Kyle has had his doubts about the risks he took. During this episode, Kyle talks about how he overcame those fears by knowing and believing that he had talking points that worked. “What we need is a way to bring a person into an environment in which they can contact the rich resources that are already within them.” Paraliminals are a unique tool designed by Dr. Paul Scheele to tap into the innate resources within individuals, what he calls, ‘the true self'. The term "paraliminal" refers tomoving beyond the threshold of the conscious mind, allowing us to access the wealth of non-conscious resources. Unlike subliminals, paraliminals are processed in the consciousmind, offering a bridge between the conscious and un-conscious mind. Dr. Scheele is a respected member of the Transformational Leadership Council. He talks about how he came to paraliminals and his meaningful career in personal development. As a young person, Dr. Scheele faced anxiety. He found comfort in prayer and then explored meditation and hypnosis. Surprisingly, he ended up running the oldest hypnosis practice in Minneapolis at just 20 years old. Later, he pursued degrees in training and development, eventually earning a Ph.D. in leadership and change. Dr. Scheele shares how the idea for paraliminals came to him in a message during meditation. He wanted to create something that helps people connect with their inner strengths.Paraliminals, with their unique design and features, help connect with the part of the mind that brings about positive change. Dr. Scheele has many touching stories from people who've benefited greatly Including people with cancer, people overcoming the stresses of school, and facing changes. This week, Matt and Braden talk with Chris Scheele about the impact that financial stress has on pornography and sexually addictive behaviour.Porn use and financial stress are relatedMen and women can both feel financial stress in various ways. Often when that stress is carried and not processed, it becomes too much to handle and leads to unhealthy reactions. One of those reactions is to escape into pornography or other sexual outlets. If healthy patterns of handling finances are established, the benefits spill over into many areas of a person's life.Money communication can change a marriage Spouses almost always have different ways of viewing, spending, and saving money. This can lead to things like financial infidelity, lying, resentment, and more. It might take a couple of hard conversations to get both spouses on the same page, but finding ways to work together and formulate a plan that works for your marriage can have positive effects on your finances, as well as on your marriage as a whole. You are charged by God to handle money wellSome people disqualify themselves from stepping up to lead financially when they are guilt-ridden due to their porn use. God has given you a responsibility to steward, use, and grow the finances He has given you. If there is miscommunication or building resentment in your marriage due to money, step up and lead by having hard conversations, surrendering your will for the sake of the marriage, and repent and forgive your spouse where hurts have been felt. Doing this will lessen your desire for a sexual escape and increase the intimacy in relationship and peace in finances that you carry with you.Share this with your friendsWho do you know that can benefit from this podcast and other episodes coming in the future? Kyle Scheele is a motivational author, speaker, and artist who has challenged tens of thousands of students across the nation to build a better world. When he's not on a plane or a stage, Kyle is at home in Springfield, Missouri, where he lives with his wife and four kids and builds weird things out of cardboard. An inspiring speaker and artist asked 20,000 people around the world to share the regrets they wanted him to burn in a mock Viking ship. This is the story of what he learned about letting go of the pain of the past and embracing the future with hope.Turning 30, artist and speaker Kyle Scheele wanted to do something unusual to mark this milestone. Instead of a birthday bash, he decided to hold a funeral to memorialize the decade of his life that was ending. Building a 16-foot Viking ship out of cardboard, he invited friends to help him set it on fire—a symbolic farewell to his 20s and all the grief, regret, and mistakes that accompanied those years. When video of his Viking funeral went viral, it encouraged many others to let go of past hurts as well. Moved by the response he received, Kyle planned a second funeral (this time with a 30-foot cardboard Viking ship) and asked people to share the things they carried—the bad choices, disappointments, heartaches, and negative thinking that they wanted to lay to rest. He received more than 20,000 responses from around the world—stories both heartbreaking and hilarious, painful and inspiring. Decor can be ugly, but what about when it's deadly? Continuing with our Halloween series this week, we're talking about Scheele's Green, the arsenic-based pigment that filled homes in Britain throughout the nineteenth century, and its surprising connection to William Morris, one of the most influential figures of the Arts & Crafts Movement. Millions of miles of arsenic green wallpaper filled the homes of Victorian Britain, causing illness and death with toxic dust. You'll never look at green walls quite the same way again…
Back at the end of June I released this episode and honestly, as you can see from the show notes below, it's my favorite. I was so proud of it but TOTALLY fucked it up by attaching the wrong audio. It sat there for weeks without me noticing (there I said it, uuhhh). So as I gear up for season two, I wanted to re-release this gem in hopes it reaches more earbuds. It's just so delicious and I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I enjoyed creating it! _____________________________ Ok. I'm just going to say it. I know I'm not supposed to have a favorite and that every episode baby is unique and incredible (um, duh!), but this episode changed me. I found another human that feels the way I do about ideas. Damn I feel seen! Kyle Scheele is an author, an artist, and an all around multi-passionate, big-idea + big-hearted human. His vision and tenacity is so inspiring and his dedication to ideas is just so deeply nourishing to me.
