OK, kiddies! Vacation's over. Hope you enjoyed the rest that you had with Chapters 14-16. "Clause" refers to a dependent or subordinate thought or sentence which is embedded inside another thought or sentence. (nice…) When the clause is called subordinate or dependent, it means it can't stand alone grammatically. Therefore, if I said "When I'm in bed,…" ─ yeah, you kinda go like “Well, what?,” because it's not a full thought. “Although you tried,” …? While I think I know where you're going with that, just to be safe, you ought to try finishing the grammar … “as they say.” I think you get the point. The presence of subordinating conjunctions like "when, although, as" turn sentences like "I'm home," "You tried," "They say" into clauses which cannot stand alone.  Moving on to the term "relative." So, this term is used for the type of clause we're studying in this chapter, refers to a certain sort of subordinate clause, one which begins with what grammarians call a “relative pronoun.” English has a number of relative pronouns, primarily "who" and "which." But also "what" and "that" can sometimes function as relative pronouns and, as we'll soon discover, in English even the absence of a relative pronoun can indicate the beginning of a relative clause... (double that “nice”…) A relative pronoun is called “relative” because it relates a subordinate thought to a noun outside the relative clause. To put it in more layman's terms (see what I did there?), the entire clause functions as a sort of large, complex adjective modifying that noun, which is called its antecedent, and just like an adjective, the whole relative clause describes or defines that noun. Antecedents get their name from the fact that they tend to cede (“come”) ante ("before") the relative clause that modifies them. Before we take the next step and look at how relative pronouns and antecedents interact, and even how the Latin relative pronoun is formed, let's make certain that you understand the English side of the equation fully, that's always my modus operandi. English uses its relative pronoun forms (who, which, what) both as relative pronouns and as interrogatives (question words). But while these forms are identical, their grammatical function couldn't be more different.  Interrogative pronouns are used in independent thoughts such as "What are you doing?," where "what" introduces a question that's a full thought, versus "what you are doing" which is not a full thought. It needs an independent sentence to attach to, such as "It is wrong," creating a full thought: "What you're doing is wrong.” There, "what" is functioning as a relative pronoun.  Therefore in English, it's important to ask yourself, whenever you run into "who, which, what," if that "w-" word is introducing a question, and thus part of the main sentence.  If so, it's interrogative, not relative. This is mostly true of Latin as well, and you'll learn very quickly how to tell whether a "w-" word is interrogative or relative from context.

The Keyword method uses three primary kinds of propositions. They are listed here with sample propositions under each.1. Proposition of Ability Every Christian can experience effective daily prayer. The person following Christ can be a learner.Sincere spiritual seekers can discover the truth about Jesus Christ. 2. Proposition of ObligationEvery Christian should pray daily. The disciple of Jesus Christ must be a learner.Sincere spiritual seekers must investigate the person of Christ. 3. Proposition of ValueIt is better to pray daily than to shoulder the load alone. It is better to grow in the knowledge of Christ than to remain childish in our faith. It is better to investigate the person of Christ than to look elsewhere for spiritual reality.Although these kinds of propositions seem to say the same thing, especially those of ability and obligation, they do not. One word (can instead of should) leads to an entirely different kind of sermon than the other. The purposes, as well as the basic structures, of the sermons, will be different. The only things they have in common are the subject and theme. As with the subject and the theme, the text must be allowed to determine the kind of proposition to be used. If the text seems to be answering a "why" question, the proposition should likely be obligatory. If the text is telling us how something is to be done, the proposition should be one of ability. If the text is making a comparison, then a proposition of value may be required. The text should always be allowed to speak for itself. That is the heart of biblical preaching!Step 4: Compose a Propositional InterrogativeSteps 4, 5, and 6 are unique to the Keyword method and are the steps that lead to the identification of the sermon's main points, which will be discussed in detail in Step 7.The first of these steps is to ask a question about the proposition. The proposition makes an assertion, which should lead naturally to a related question. This question is formulated by simply prefacing the proposition with a suitable interrogative like why or how. The proper interrogative will depend on the kind of proposition being used (obligation, ability, or value) and the nature of the material in the text (which question does it answer?). 1. With a proposition of ability, the usual interrogative is how.(When, where, and what can also be used.)PROPOSITION: Every Christian can experience effective daily prayer.INTERROGATIVE: How can every Christian experience effective daily prayer?2. With a proposition of obligation, the usual interrogative is why.(When, where, and what can also be used.)PROPOSITION: Every Christian should pray daily.INTERROGATIVE: Why should every Christian pray daily?3. With a proposition of value, the usual interrogative is why.(When and where might also be used.)PROPOSITION: It is better to pray daily than to shoulder the load alone.INTERROGATIVE: Why is it better to pray daily than to shoulder the load alone? The interrogative sentence may or may not be stated during delivery, but it is extremely important as a homiletical tool. It will help the preacher remain focused as he prepares to make the transition from the sermon introduction (to be written later) into the sermon body.Remember to subscribe to The Preaching Matters Podcast and leave a favorable review on your favorite podcast directory. Our website is: https://preachingmatters.buzzsprout.com/The podcast is a ministry of Dr. Alan Carr and The Sermon Notebook (http://www.sermonnotebook.org)https://www.patreon.com/user?u=69828429&fan_landing=trueSupport the show

Hello. Welcome to Jenni's Pika Pika Japanese. Well, the cherry blossom season is over in Japan, but you can still often see pink cherry-like flowers when you walk around town. I found such a pink flower yesterday when I was walking around town, so I took a picture of it. Do you know what this is? It looks like cherry blossoms, but upon closer inspection, the flowers appear larger, round and fluffy. This is called yaezakura (double-flowered cherry blossom), which has 20 to 70 petals, compared to the 5 petals of the regular Someiyoshino cherry blossom, and is called yaezakura (double-flowered cherry blossom) in contrast to the single-petaled cherry blossom of the regular cherry blossom. The blooming season is just around this time of the year, when someiyoshino cherry blossoms start to bloom after someiyoshino cherry blossoms have fallen. Today's Japanese lesson is the basic form of interrogative sentences. Is X Y? The "ika" is an invariant verb that expresses a question. Is Kim a student? Is Kim a student? X: Mr. Kim Y: student The affirmative answer is. Yes, Kim is a student. Negative answer. No, Mr. Kim is not a student. Please listen to the audio for more details. Is Kim a student? キムさんは学生ですか? X:キムさん Y:学生 肯定的な答えは、 はい、キムさんは学生です。 否定的な答えは、 いいえ、キムさんは学生じゃありません。 詳しくは、音声を聞いて確認してください。

We love accents and dialects, and are well aware that how we speak changes over time. The key is: is your voice successfully communicating your message, so it is being understood (and potentially being acted upon) by your target audience? - Grammar point - The particle wa cannot be used together with a question word, because wa specifies the topic of a sentence, which is information already known to the speaker. On the other hand, it is possible to use wa when there is a question word in the comment (the part of the sentence that follows the topic). The particle ga marks the grammatical subject of a sentence. Always use ga when the subject is, or contains, a question word. =============================================== Check out my Youtube Channel! ###TAPESCRIPT### Hello everyone! This is Teacher Carol Pinho and this is our new episode of Carol Tips! Today, we will talk about Simple Past So, let's get down to business! Simple Past is used to talk about things that happened in the past, but the period must be SPECIFIC, that is, we have to know when the action occurred, like in: I visited my family in 2019. or I went to London in 2017. The period must be SPECIFIC and FINISHED, meaning that, the “time” of the sentence must be OVER For example: The sentence: “My daughter was born in 2000” is correct, because the year 2000 is over now. ok teacher…. and if I want to say “I drank coffee today”, is it correct? No! It is not! Today is not over. My coffee is over, but the period we are using isn't finished. In this case, we will use PRESENT PERFECT. We will talk about this verbal tense on our next episode. Now, talking about structure. When we use Simple Past, we use the 2nd column of the verbs in the affirmative sentences, like: go - went see - saw make - made dance - danced For example: My husband cooked pasta last Sunday. or She watched an amazing movie yesterday. In the negative, we use the auxiliary verb DIDN'T and the principal verb in the infinitive form, which is the base form or the 1st column of verbs. For example: I didn't go to the movies last weekend. or My parents didn't visit me last year. (Do you see? In the negative, the verb is not in the PAST FORM) When we talk about INTERROGATIVE sentences, we use DID as the auxiliary verb, followed by the subject and the infinitive of the verb too, equal in the negative form. For instance: Did you read the news yesterday? or Did you see John at school last week? When we use WH words in the questions, like WHAT, WHERE, WHEN, WHY or HOW, we place them before the subject. The structure will be: WH WORD + DID + SUBJECT + VERB IN INFINITIVE For example: When did you move to Bahia? How did you go to work yesterday? Why did you decide to stop university last year? When we make sentences with VERB TO BE in the PAST, it is all different, right? In affirmative sentences, we use WAS or WERE Note that we use WAS for I, HE, SHE and IT and WERE for YOU, WE and THEY Like in: I was born in 1982 She was at home last night They were boring when they were kids For the NEGATIVE form, we do not use the AUXILIARY VERB DIDN'T. VERB TO BE goes to negative form alone, was not (or) WASN'T She wasn't my friend 10 years ago I wasn't well last night were not (or) WEREN'T They weren't together in the party on Saturday You weren't happy at the club yesterday In the INTERROGATIVE, we move the verb to be before the subject, such as: Was he at school yesterday? Were you happy when you lived in London? We can also place the WH WORDS before verb to be in the questions. For example: Where were you last night? Why was the refrigerator door opened? That's it! ####TAPESCRIPT#### Hello everyone! This is teacher Carol Pinho, and here is our new episode of Carol Tips! Remember that this audio tapescript is available in the podcast description! Today we will talk about  HAVE SOMETHING DONE In English, if I say: I CUT MY HAIR YESTERDAY, I mean I, myself, with my hands, cut my own hair. It doesn't mean I paid someone else, like a hairdresser, to cut my hair for me. When I say: I AM PAINTING MY APARTMENT, I am telling you that I am painting the walls myself, using my hands. Ok! So, Teacher! How can I inform that I paid someone to do something for me? We use HAVE SOMETHING DONE. The structure is simple: we use HAVE in the verbal tense that we want. For example: I have or He has  (for Simple Present) She will have (for the Future) They had (for the Past) You should have (when we talk about modal verbs) He has never had (for Present Perfect) After HAVE, we use the SOMETHING, which is, in the previous examples, the hair, the apartment or the walls. Then, we use the verb in the participle form, which is the 3rd column of the verbs Like in: I had my hair cut yesterday. (I am telling you that I got someone else to cut my hair for me yesterday) I am having my apartment painted this week. (someone is painting my apartment this week, not me) I will have my car washed next Saturday (I will pay a person to wash my car for me next Saturday, I won't wash it myself) Lisa had the roof repaired yesterday (Lisa paid someone to repair her damaged roof) My husband has his beard trimmed at the same barbershop. (He pays the same barber to trim his beard) We had our shower fixed two days ago. (We called someone to fix our broken shower) We can use it in NEGATIVE form: I don't have my hair cut. I cut it myself. We didn't have the car washed last week. It is so dirty! She doesn't have the house cleaned, because she doesn't like other people in her house. I won't have my nails polished this week. I will polish them myself. And, we can also use it in INTERROGATIVE sentences, like: Did you have your hair cut? Does she have her nails polished every week? Will you have the car washed next Saturday? That's it! Hope you like it! Follow us on Instagram as well! Search for @carolpinhoefl! See you on the next episode of Carol Tips!

We spend a lot of time being told it's all about affirmations. You'll get everything you want if you just affirm it. I'm going to challenge that. I wanna introduce a concept called Interrogative Self-Talk - getting a conversation with ourselves going. It's super cool. Here's why: Our brain is wired to believe. So, how do we get to the place where we can believe in order to achieve? We gotta actually challenge ourselves. Rationally we then put into order and make sense of things and then work out a way to believe and therefore achieve. Try it out. Boom. One way to affirm stuff is with I'm hosting a "Lunch n' Learn" at 12:07 MST Wednesday November 25th (6:07 AEST Thursday November 26th... "Breaky n' Brains" ??) Ciao ragazzi! Bentornati nel mio podcast! Nella puntata di oggi, vi insegnerò come utilizzare gli aggettivi interrogativi ed esclamativi in italiano. L'argomento che affronteremo oggi è molto importante, è alla base dell'italiano. Mi raccomando, prestate molta attenzione all'episodio di oggi. In descrizione vi riporterò tutte le informazioni principali. Dateci un'occhiata! Buon ascolto. - Hi guys! Welcome back to my podcast! In today's episode, I'll teach you how to use interrogative and exclamative adjectives in Italian. Today's topic is so important, it is the basis of Italian. Please pay close attention to today's episode. In the description I'll report all the main information. Check it out! Have a good time listening. - Interrogative adjectives allow us to ask a question about quality, quantity or identity of the noun we are referring to. -Esclamative adjectives, instead, allow us to exclaim about quality, quantity or identity of the noun we are referring to. In Italian, we have 3 (used both in questions and in exclamations): - Che - Quale - Quanto Let's go into some more details: - Che: is used to ask questions or exclaim about the identity of the noun it is refers to. Furthermore, it is invariable both in gender and number. - Quale: is used to ask questions or exclaim about the quality of the noun it refers to. It changes only in number. - Quanto: is used to ask questions or exclaim about the quantity of the noun it refers to. It changes both in gender and number. Interrogative function In the interrogative form, "Che", "Quale" and "Quanto", with their relative plural and feminine forms, can be used in direct questions (= with a question mark “?” at the end of the sentence in writing, or a high-pitched voice at the end of the sentence in speaking) and in indirect questions (= requests in the form of statements rather than questions in order to be more kind). Examples of direct questions: - Che tempo farà domani? (What's the weather going to be like tomorrow?) - Quale vestito preferisci? (What dress do you prefer?) - Quanto tempo ci resta? (How long do we have?) Examples indirect questions: - Vorrei sapere che tempo farà domani. (I'd like to know what tomorrow's weather is going to be like) - Dimmi quale vestito preferisci. (Let me know what dress you prefer) - Mi piacerebbe essere informata su quanto tempo ci resta. (I'd like to be informed about how long we have) Esclamative function In the esclamative form, "Che", "Quale" and "Quanto" are generally used in sentences which have an exclamation mark “!” in writing, and more emphasis in speaking. Examples of the esclamative form: - Quanto freddo fa oggi! (How cold today is!) - Che bugiardo che sei! (What a liar you are!) - Quale onore parlare con lei! (What an honor to talk with you!) Welcome to Inside the Greenroom, This week I wanted to cover something a little different than usual and start off by saying we are going on hiatus from what was supposed to be the third part of our series. I will intertwine some of it in our episode today but I wanted to be honest and say that because of the state of the union that was called, thousands and thousands of events that were going to take place across the world had to be canceled and we lost millions of dollars as a result. So, that part is the reason you have not heard from us, but also I wanted to share with you today the vision of us wanting to redefine how events were done virtually. While you can never replace people being in the room, we must find a way to make lemonade out of lemons so this episode is completely dedicated to the fact that I believe we have pulled off a powerful and meaningful, a redefined, virtual event. I am going to cover just how we managed to pull this event off, and not only how we doubled our lost revenue but tripled the number of people who would have attended our live event.  You do not want to miss this episode, because it has some need to know information on how you can get an unforgettable experience out of a virtual event whether you are an attendee, sponsor, or speaker. I want to challenge you to innovate and recreate what virtual events look like right now, we have done it, and we want to show you how you can too. So, 40 days ago we were hit with the fact and the reality that we'd be canceling our April 30th through May 2nd event in Orlando, Florida. We had over 1100 close to 1200 people registered. We had never been over the thousand-person Mark. We had worked nine to 10 months to get to that point. Now, we recognized as a team that the virtual economy was here and made the decision that we were going to redefine how to do events virtually. Now nothing can ever replace seeing people in person, but we had an important opportunity and responsibility to take this time and make the next category in events. As you’ve heard we called the state of the union, and we actually did a training and during that training we told all of the attendees who showed up like that we were going to create this experience, and we coined the name Advanced 360 Interactive, and we called it 360 because we wanted to engage 360 degrees of all of their senses. We wanted this to be the most interactive, engaging, easy, powerful, and experiential event we could possibly make. I said this 40 days ago, and I wasn’t even sure if we could pull it off!  We set the ball in motion that day announcing it, then worked on getting tickets transferred from the event they were going to attend to this new virtual event. We were lucky enough to get about 700-800 people to transfer their tickets, but we wanted to take it even further, so we ran a challenge and I want to expand on that challenge in a later episode but when it was all said and done we had 3,100 tickets claimed or paid for. We almost tripled our attendance size from our live event! Now we knew it was imperative for this 360-degree experience to start before the actual event so I painted a picture and my team in conjunction with Sage Events, who I am so thankful for, we’re able to pull together a sort of pregame to the event which started with every attendee getting something physical in the mail. First: Every single attendee received not the only curriculum and a workbook, but my team also took it even a step farther and had little emojis on a stick, “do not disturb” door hangers, and even recipes that were quick and easy for the attendees to be able to put their best foot forward. Because of this, you start seeing all these social media posts about how they received their package for the 360 events, it created a ripple of engagement. Second: We wanted to create pre-work, and usually, pre-work is a lot of technical speaking so we made sure to give only three short videos that got their mind, and spirit ready for the upcoming event. I wanted there to be an easy way for them to show up powerfully and have the best experience they could possibly have. A lot of that was overcoming the attitude to just being in another zoom room and painting a picture of what the experience was about, how they needed to be checked in, get dressed, and keep their camera turned on. By doing this we created a powerful pregame experience that had people looking forward to the virtual event instead of dreading it. Third: I want to just say how thankful I am for Sage’s involvement because we had a virtual check-in. Just like a live event, we had people click a button, get notified by email that they must check in during these hours on this day and people actually did the check-in. They, of course, signed off on their waiver just like at a real event then after they were taken to a room with a live person to take them through a tech check, which helped them know how to use their dashboard which held any curriculum, the game of education, and any handouts that needed to go out. They had zoom links for everything they need whether it was VIP or general admission. So because of this check-in, they were able to find everything they might need right there in their dashboard. Of course, there was some overwhelming numbers and there were small groups but it usually one to one person. So, they got a whole experience jus through the pregame of the event, it brought exciting expectations and allowed for the attendees to show up in a powerful way. Onsite: Then, of course, you have the Onsite, which is one of if not the most important part to be able to pull off. The thing that made it so easy was the dashboard, the option for them to find everything they might need right there in front of them. Then we were able to set up 16 different “rooms” that held about 200 people each, and with some sort of connector, we had the same audio and video pumping simultaneously through all 16 rooms. Here’s the beautiful thing, I was on a physical stage, with four cameras pointing towards me. I  had these big monitors that displayed about 500 people at a time, and it just scrolled through everyone as I spoke. So, now I was literally able to interact with these people on the screen, I could see cheering, clapping, excitement, yelling but here’s my favorite part. I was able to call out a thousand names throughout the course of three days, I probably called more than that because I wanted them to feel as if they were in the room. I have never, and there is no way I would be able to do that in a live event. Sessions: I’m sure you’re asking, how else can you make it interactive and I’ll tell you the actual format of every session, the sessions remained the same as they would in a live event, two morning and evening sessions on the first and second day, two morning and one afternoon session for the third and the format stayed the same for almost all those sessions. 35 minutes of speaking and inspiration After that, they would move immediately to a breakout room of 5 people 10-20 minutes they would work on the worksheet on the teaching they just received 10-20 minutes of conversation about the activity and workshop. 10 final minutes back in the big room to share “aha” moments This can be done for business stuff, but this can also be a meditative activity so if you don’t feel like what you have would fit. It will, we even had a letter-writing session, that allowed our attendees to meditate on what their business would like in a year. We brought them back in for a final 10 minutes where we hear five big “ahas” from maybe 10 of those rooms. It lasted about 90 minutes in all, so we kept engagement by keeping our sessions shorter and making them more interactive. Now, let me tell you something of those three days 90% to 95% of people stayed the entire day, I don’t even get that at my live events, and even better than that we got some amazing testimonials where a common theme was how this was the most powerful virtual event they had ever experienced. For many, it was the most powerful event they had ever experience…period! I’m telling this because I want you to know your event matters, they can change lives, businesses your event can change everything for someone. I urge you, if you are an attendee that missed out on an event this year go find a virtual one, we have set a standard for virtual events now and there will be many to come that you can gain so much from. If you are a sponsor, there are opportunities for you, we had rooms full of coaches and sponsors, so innovate and figure out how you can help bring together a powerful event. Speakers, you don’t have to try and jump in on another event you can create your own event! Host an event that will changes lives, and businesses, you have the perfect platform to do so right. Now.  My team is rolling out services to help corporations, events, and industries understand how to do this because we have documented this whole process. We knew that we were going to pull off events, organizations, and associations. It’s time to step up   It’s time for us to create   It’s time for us to innovate You don’t need to grind because we have for you, but are you ready to pivot? I leave you with these questions, to challenge yourself to create and innovate your industry.           What are you going to do if you are an attendee that didn’t get to go to an event?         What are you going to do if you are a Sponsors to innovate?         What are you going to do if you are a speaker to not only be on the stage but create your own?   `·         What are you going to do to pivot?   We are here to lead the charge and lead the way, so I want to encourage you if you want to have any conversations about what we can do to help just email katie@advanceyourreach.com. Hello folks! Happy new year! We’re starting this year with a complex topic; interrogative and relative pronouns. The word what is increasingly frequently used in place of the relative pronoun that. Based on the work I’ve seen including this error, it’s clear to me that some students believe that what can be used exactly the same way as the relative pronoun that. What is almost always an interrogative pronoun, sometimes an exclamative, but very rarely a relative pronoun. This episode also takes a look at reduced relative clauses which exclude the relative pronoun in favour of a participle form of the verb. Germans overuse this type of construction and I explain why.
