When I met my client Sarah and started working with her a year ago, we both knew what was possible - and let me tell you how fun it's been to see the difference a year can make! Pinterest is hands down the most powerful social media platform for content creators and small business owners. This week's episode is packed with tips and strategies to help you grow your business or your brand by using this free tool. Our guest, Mackenzie Armstrong, a Pinterest Strategist and Manager, will delve into why you should use Pinterest for your brand or business and how to make the most out of this robust tool. With online marketing, there's a debate raging among experts over which strategy is best to grow your business. Would SEO or social media marketing be the better option? Often, businesses will hire an SEO expert or agency to increase their visibility in the search engines without even thinking about social media and the traffic that it can bring to their business. Similarly, there are those who focus their attention entirely on building a social media following without spending any time on SEO. With Pinterest you don't have to choose. In this episode we learn how and when to use the different types of Pinterest pins and how to take advantage of the SEO and searchability of Pinterest to increase your reach, drive traffic to your content, and grow your business. So, while SEO and social media marketing are different, they each help the other and the end goal of both is the same - to help increase traffic to your website, products, or services. We're starting a brand new series over on the Ditch the Classroom podcast – teaching you about popular freelance/virtual assistance services and what those services entail. In the first episode in the series, I'm teaching you all about Pinterest Strategists. Did you know you can get paid to play on Pinterest? It's not only a place to go to find your next DIY idea or recipe – it's a visual search engine that is now almost as popular as google. Many businesses should be on Pinterest but aren't on it yet – it's still a very under-utilized platform in terms of businesses who could expand their reach, making this a great service to offer. Have you been wondering if Pinterest is really worth your time and effort? Today's guest shares all her Pinterest best practices so you can finally capture the power of Pinterest for your product business. As a Pinterest Strategist, Laura helps high-performing business owners & content creators implement content growth plans, outsource their visibility, and steadily grow their monthly revenue. All without tantrums over tech and trading sleep for success. She describes herself as a quirky, spunky, social butterfly who values open, honest relationships in every area of her life. She’s also the mother of two boys who are the center of everything. BUSINESS BUILDING INSIGHTS Don't focus on the competition or feeling judged. Let your own personality shine. Stay true to the http://giftbizunwrapped.com/episodes/elainekuckertz (audience) coming to you. Keep your eyes focused on them rather than what your competition is doing. Pinterest Best Practices Pinterest should be considered a http://giftbizunwrapped.com/episodes/meg-casebolt (search feed platform) like Google and YouTube. It is not a social media platform. People go to http://giftbizunwrapped.com/episodes/how-to-use-pinterest-for-business (Pinterest) to search for a solution to a certain problem. If you really want to reach a wider audience and bring in traffic and sales, take time to research more on the platform. What are people searching for? Pin Hacking: See what type of designs, titles, and calls to action come on pins when you search for the type of product you offer. Then find a way to fill in the gaps those other companies are not filling. A/B test your pins by trying two different designs or more for a single product and see which works better. Sometimes a gorgeous picture doesn't give the info a shopper needs to see. Try different types of pins: Static images such as text-only, product images, or behind the scenes Video pins - short & sweet 20-second snippet. Great teasers and can link to products. Simple videos made on your phone are fine. Story pins (can't link but good for brand awareness and getting followers) - videos of how you make a product, show your process, show your store - use up to 5-7 images Every pin should include a call to action to lead people to where they can purchase your product. Pinterest is a redirection site - you search for something, and it redirects you to where you can purchase. DON'T use link shorteners (they are marked as SPAM). Use the actual link.

Join me and Jana O in this episode as we chat about one of our obsessions – Pinterest. Get the down and dirty and steps to get started. You don't want to miss this one! Jana's Bio: Jana O. is an ultra-organized Content Manager and Pinterest Strategist. She loves supporting online service-based entrepreneurs by helping them shape and consistently distribute messages that attract their ideal clients. Jana received a B.S. in Communications and Marketing from Emerson College, then lived and worked in Boston before re-locating to sunny South Florida in 2010. She's often working, because she loves what she does — and can work from anywhere. But when Jana takes a break from building up brands, you'll find her re-fueling in independent cafes (okay, she might be working there too)… buying shiny beads to make stretchy bracelets (she has far too many – it's a problem!)… or spending time with her husband and dog-ter. You can find Jana at http://janaomedia.com.
