Hey moms, this episode is for you. It can be a lot to be juggling work, motherhood, no matter how many kids you have, how old they are, what type of work you do, how much childcare you have or don't have, it doesn't matter. I often have moments now as a mom (which I've been a mom for about two and a half years now) where I'm genuinely like, “what was I doing before being a mom? Why did I feel so busy?” Because things are so much busier now.In this episode, I'm going to share with you seven thoughts, or seven affirmations for working moms (whatever you prefer to think of them as!). My hope is that these are thoughts that you can tell yourself throughout your day, throughout all the moments of motherhood and work and that they will encourage you and be a good mindset shift from what you might naturally be thinking during those busy moments. All too often, we get into a comparison mindset and analyze our life and accomplishments in regard to what we see other people doing, but what if instead of comparing, we cheered each other on? If you get out of the dark corners of social media, you can meet and connect with people you relate to on deep levels and experience a sense of mutual respect, growth, and learning from one another. That is what you are going to get from today's conversation with Tyler Todt. Tyler Todt coaches and leads people to better their habits, health, energy levels, and life. He is a certified trainer that loves helping others reach their goals and create an intentional life full of purpose, energy, and passion. Tyler's mission is to help others uplevel their life so that we can all win together. As a husband, father, and Christ follower, Tyler knows the significance of being mindful of what we allow into our lives in terms of what we absorb on social media, and who we are surrounded by. In this episode, Tyler and Shawn get real about the fact that our society is too focused on how much money people are making instead of being focused on what kind of person they are. Valuing character, goals, and growth is far more powerful than always being focused on how many digits someone has in their bank account. While finances are a huge part of life, they are not everything, and we all need to take a step back and ask ourselves if our priorities are in the right place. Are we being present and intentional spouses, parents, friends, and members of society? Tyler encourages us all to find our balance and stay mindful of what is important in life. Surrounding ourselves with other people that share these priorities, whether it be in person or even on social media, will lead to a more uplifted society where we all want to see each other win. Key highlights: Introduction to Tyler and how he and Shawn met Too often men get into a comparison mindset Getting out of the negative and dark places of social media Health is the new wealth Society is too focused on money and how much you make, not how you are working to be a better person Relationship building 1:1 We're not confined to the people in close proximity anymore because we can find our tribe online now Being mindful of your circle and who you interact with Making the choice to seek out other people that are wanting to go to higher levels Modeling behavior for our kids because they are always watching Giving yourself permission to rest and prioritize balance in what Tyler calls a “b-day” Being mindful and finding your balance so that you are still giving time and attention to the people that matter most The problem with scarcity mindset and feeling like we need to do and respond to everything right away Connect with Tyler Todt: Instagram: @tyromper Twitter: @tyromper YouTube: Tyler Todt TikTok: @tylertodt Connect with Shawn French: Instagram: @theshawnfrench Website: theshawnfrench.com Facebook group: The Determined Society Twitter: @theshawnmfrench YouTube: The Shawn French

There are two kinds of people in the world: Those who understand the power of their thoughts and victims. Before we understand the power of our thoughts, we play the victim. We think that the world is against us, that we need a new body, a new house, a new job in order to be happy. We blame other people for our feelings and we try to change them so that we can feel better. But when we understand that our thoughts are everything, we step into a place of empowerment that is absolutely indescribable! In this episode we talk about how people often confuse thoughts with emotions. This confusion can make the idea of honoring emotions confusing and unhelpful (because we don't want to honor unhelpful thoughts even though the resulting feeling is valid). Not all thoughts are truth and this clarity can really help in figuring out how to actually change your life where it matters, right where you live it. Enjoy!

My thoughts tormented me for the first half of my life. They were very good at making me believe that I was never doing enough, I was not lovable, other people were more important than me, I was not good enough, taking care of others was more important than taking care of myself, I was not very smart, I should stay in the background and help others succeed... You get the idea. I made this list because I want you to hear some of the things that are roaming around in your head. Maybe they're identical, maybe they're different, but they are definitely hurting you. 90 percent of our self-talk is negative. Take a second to process that number and realize what a huge effort it takes just to get out of bed and face the world every morning. No wonder a third to a half of us are on antidepressants. It doesn't have to be this way. Peace of mind and positive thinking are possible. If I could transform my thoughts, so can you. Please join me Thursday to learn more about making your thoughts work for you.
Morning Mindfulness - Two Positive Minutes to Start Your Day
Have you ever been judged for things you’ve done? Or for something you were accused of but have not done? Now, what about you judging somebody? Passing judgment is a natural human response to everything. Even if somebody is judging us, we immediately return the favor: like, how dare you judge me? I’ve been on both sides of the fence, and trust me, this is a trap you don’t want to get into, regardless which side you’re coming from.

Licensed psychotherapist Ken Howard, LCSW gives tips on how our thoughts can change our life for the better, at every phase of life -- youth, middle age, and senior. With specific examples from Ken and from classic authors on affirmations and the power of taking a positive approach to life's challenges.
This is a continuation of my conversation with award winning author Mary Lore. Access part one.
Powerful thoughts is a new concept to me. I am familiar with the notion of positive thinking and have given it a try in many different circumstances. For a while I used positive thinking to try and bring a challenging relationship with a co-worker up to a higher level of communication. Every morning I would spend several minutes repeating a mantra along the lines of “Joanie and I are communicating honestly and fairly….Joanie and I are communicating openly and seeking to understand each other’s points of view…” etc. Some days it worked to put me in an open space of possibility, but most days all it did was bring to mind previous emotionally taxing, negative conversations and interactions. But, I kept at it diligently, completely ignorant to the fact that instead of creating the healthy relationship I wanted, I was solidifying the detrimental one. I didn’t believe what I was saying and my mind helped me out with examples that supported my disbelief. You see I was not paying attention to what Mary Lore calls, my follow-up thoughts. How to Tell the Difference Between Positive and Powerful Thoughts In our conversation about positive thoughts versus powerful ones, Mary points out that one way to tell the difference between the two is to pay attention to your follow-up thoughts after the initial thought. If your follow-up thoughts deflate you, make you feel fearful or unmotivated, the initial thought is not a powerful thought no matter how positive is sounds. However, if your follow-up thoughts uplift, motivate, and energize you, the initial thought is a powerful thought. In my example above if I had shifted my focus from the interaction between Joanie and I and placed it on myself, I would have felt empowered. Thoughts along the lines of “I am being my true, loving authentic self in all my interactions with Joanie and others…” would have uplifted and motivated me to be they type of person I strive to be. Mary points out that what works for one person will not work for another. And what works for years will one day stop working. The trick is to be flexible and creative with your thoughts and always check in with yourself to see how you feel. Are your shoulders tense or relaxed? Are you smiling or frowning? Do you feel light or heavy inside? These are all indications of whether or not you are thinking powerful thoughts versus positive ones.
Back to school is a crazy time, and most of us label it as just plain stressful. Through real life examples and practical exercises, Mary shares how creating a vision of what we want to experience, and being vs. doing, can help inspire us to make the most of the school year.
I often hear, I try thinking happy, positive thoughts, and it's just not working. Many folks say, Positive affirmations don't work. Remember the Stuart Smalley character on Saturday Night Live who made positive affirmations in the mirror? I do NOT want to be THAT guy! Then there are those who say that positive thinking does work and swear by the use of positive affirmations. Guess what - everyone's right! A positive thought may or may not work. Powerful thoughts, on the other hand, do work. This Forward Thinking Gentle Reminder discusses the difference between a positive thought and a powerful thought, how to know if a thought is powerful, and some powerful thoughts we can choose to think.
