When it comes to business, the goal isn’t just a big exit—it’s about building something so empowering that staying in or stepping away both feel like exciting options. In this episode, Jaryd Krause is joined by Raleigh Williams, a former Mergers & Acquisitions lawyer turned successful entrepreneur. Raleigh left his law career after just nine months to start an escape room business, which he scaled and sold for eight figures. Now a father of three and husband to a breast cancer survivor, Raleigh now helps entrepreneurs “take chips off the table” and reconnect with the creativity and joy that originally drove them into business. The conversation dives deep into Raleigh’s journey—from walking away from law, to building a multi-million-dollar company, to writing a powerful book that helps founders navigate the emotional rollercoaster of exits and acquisitions. For entrepreneurs wondering whether to sell, grow, or rediscover their passion for their business, this episode is packed with game-changing insights. Learn how to find fulfillment in business, make empowered decisions, and avoid the identity crisis that can follow a big exit. Get ready for a raw, insightful, and inspiring conversation about purpose, growth, and enjoying the journey of entrepreneurship, no matter what stage you’re in. Episode Highlights 03:00 Finding purpose in your work and life 10:00 Combining enjoyment and passion into your business 17:00 Can you truly make a hobby your work? 25:30 The importance of being authentic in both business and personal life. 33:00 How suffering and passion intersect in meaningful work. 41:00 Raleigh's book and finding true fulfillment. 45:00 Where to find Raleigh and his book? Key Takeaways ➥ Purpose isn’t found—it’s created by doing work that energizes you in the present, not some future ideal. ➥ Passion doesn't mean ease. True passion often involves suffering you’re willing to bear because the work feels important. ➥ Hobbies don’t have to become work. It’s okay to keep joy separate from your income stream. ➥ Living an undivided life—being the same person in every setting—leads to deeper fulfillment and less emotional burnout. ➥ A true calling feels like something only you can do, even when it's hard. That’s what gives it meaning. Raleigh Williams is one of my favorite people. Not a stranger to the show, 2nd time at least but he always packed in so much value. He's bought, scaled, sold so many businesses. AND my favorite part of Raleigh is him betting on himself years ago after dropping down a pretty penny on a law degree. Raleigh walked away from a huge attorney career and salary to live life on his own terms. We dive into Phantom Equity though. Podcast Nuggies Phantom Equity! That's it. GUEST BIO:Raleigh Williams is a former M&A attorney turned entrepreneur who quit his job as a lawyer to start an escape room business. Raleigh quickly expanded into multiple locations while adding trampoline parks, axe throwing and other entertainment venues. After six years of running his company, Raleigh tried to sell the whole pool of entertainment businesses to a single buyer. However, he quickly learned that the buyers and investment bankers believed he needed to sell his assets piecemeal to maximize his outcome. By separating each asset, Raleigh was able to create more than $26 million in enterprise value, which he now uses to invest in and buy other businesses. Today, Raleigh is the CEO of DealMaven.io, helping and investing in founders to structure and operationalize their businesses and create incredible exits. Come to think of it… I have made 55 products in three years, many of which have been taken down. I didn't see the real value they bring when it comes to business valuation. Then came Raleigh Williams, a mergers and acquisitions lawyer turned business owner and now my business partner. Raleigh started as a mergers and acquisitions lawyer–working at a big law firm in New York and then later in Texas. When he saw how these big companies earn millions (and even billions) of dollars through acquiring businesses or selling divisions of their companies, he got into building his own business. He went from earning $2M a year in profit from his family entertainment business to selling the entire business for $26M. Then Raleigh made me realize the biggest mistakes that internet marketers like me create. Let us share them with you in detail and hopefully enlighten you. He has gone on doing his own business acquisitions. And now, we're combining his M&A knowledge and my sales funnel expertise to value and acquire businesses and help them optimize through marketing. Join us in this special episode as we talk about how we're using sales funnel in business acquisitions, the criteria we're looking for in an M&A, and our business plans. My friend Raleigh Williams is an entrepreneur, business owner, and a “mergers and acquisitions” lawyer, and he grows his businesses in an interesting way.He buys other businesses and media assets……then integrates them into his existing operations and uses them to scale.Real estate investors can do this too.It could be as simple as buying a local Facebook group and using it to get seller leads…Or buying something like a roofing company that cuts your renovation costs and adds a new revenue stream. My mind was blown when Raleigh shared how simple these types of acquisitions can be on today's episode of the 7 Figure Flipping Podcast.I've already got ideas of some things I want to bring in-house and vertically integrate…And I'm sure you'll get some huge takeaways too.Listen in now!And in case you haven't heard…I'm holding a free 5-day challenge NEXT WEEK on how to go from “beginner” to 6-figures of income flipping and wholesaling houses. If you want to be part of it, sign up at the link below!6-Figure Challenge >>Catch you on the flip side!Links & ResourcesCONNECT WITH RALEIGH WILLIAMS: Want to learn more about how to strategically acquire media assets and complementary businesses to expand your income? Michael Bloom is the CEO of Praktio, a platform that helps junior lawyers at law firms learn how to draft contracts, which is used by over 50 of the AM Law 200. Michael graduated from Yale Law into the Financial Crisis and took a voluntary deferral from Sidley Austin.Rather than twiddling his thumbs, Michael found a role teaching a clinical contracts course at U of Chicago Law School. That course turned into coauthoring a textbook on contracts and ultimately with some hops and jumps and more hops over to launching Praktio. If you're graduating law school now or worried about what's happening in the current economic environment, you might take comfort from the fact that often what we're not expecting ends up taking us down paths that prove to be fruitful and that we may not have anticipated to begin with. This week, Tuesday, December 6th at 6:00 PM, EST, Raleigh Williams from Episode 15 is going to be leading a free workshop on investing in small businesses for busy lawyers. If you want to attend or learn about future workshops like this email me at Joseph@excellentatlife.com.I'm also going to be launching a newsletter shortly called Excellent at Life: A Personal Growth Newsletter for Attorneys and Other Humans. This is a killer episode. I loved this conversation and I think you're going to enjoy it a lot. I'm talking to Raleigh Williams. Raleigh is the CEO of DealMaven.io, a marketplace for buying and selling small businesses. Raleigh is, of course, a former lawyer and he lasted all of nine months at Skadden before he hightailed it out of there, straight into his mother-in-law's basement with his wife and a three-year-old kid.His dad didn't talk to him for two years after, because he was so angry — he even killed the power to an extra house he had in Utah, so Raleigh wouldn't stay there. This episode is full of so many rich nuggets and such an awesome storyline. I hope you have a real good time listening to it.Next week, Tuesday, December 6th at 6:00 PM, EST Raleigh is going to be leading a free workshop on investing in small businesses for busy lawyers. If you want to learn about future workshops like this email me at Joseph@excellentatlife.com.I'm also going to be launching a newsletter shortly called Excellent at Life: A Personal Growth Newsletter for Attorneys and Other Humans.
