Identity politics continues to feed divisive headlines that legacy media newsrooms churn out with no shame. In Episode 5 of Season 3, we ask - Is Fake News being used to legitimize evaluating political candidates based on their blood quantums? You'll hear how one of those abhorrent narratives, used to pillory a PC incumbent, was granted the aura of 'fact' by biased Winnipeg newsrooms - but when put under the microscope, fails the test of truth. 7:06 - Kevin Klein, PC candidate in Kirkfield Park, joins Marty Gold to explain why he's taking action against CBC Manitoba. The race-obsessed CBC reported about his family heritage in Ontario and alleged that he has falsely claimed Metis bloodlines. Now, Klein is promising to go beyond mere corrections and apologies - because the smear campaign has affected his family directly. Sometimes it's not what's in the story, it's what was left out of the story, that tells the tale, Klein explains. "The family tree that we have is not the one they published... what would make the media happy? Am I supposed to disown my family?" That's just part of what shifts the media reports outside of the realm of legitimate public interest journalism - and it's being used instead as the foundation of a smear campaign. Your support is needed now to expand our local reporting and election coverage- help us via paypal.com/paypalme/MartyGoldMedia This weekend, a newspaper columnist hopped on the bandwagon, telling a personal story of taking her young children to get their MMF cards and her family history and particularly of how the ancient governments "robbed Metis children" - presumably including hers in the present day- "of their inheritance". After 5 paragraphs, "Metis heritage always comes down to community" suddenly veers into Kevin Klein. Assailed for his "lack of education about Indigenous people in our province", the columnist said when "Klein asserts he is Metis" is it "hurtful and confusing". So confusing to her, in fact, that Rebecca Chambers concluded that Klein is "claiming to be us" to bolster his political ambitions. But that is Fake News. Last month we asked Is This What Louis Riel Would Say About Kevin Klein? He certainly wouldn't say what Rebecca Chambers did in the Free Press. As you'll hear him confirm, his mother's bloodline has no link to the Red River Metis and Klein never said it did. And this issue has nothing to do with requiring any approval from the MMF. This is a far-ranging discussion with Klein about the role of mainstream media in elections, and ends with a stark reminder of the ripple effects of Identity Politics on family members and relationships. "It's a hunt to take me down... This is just political spin, enough is enough is enough. We're elected to do a job, not to create political division." 36:58 - Marty wraps up the episode, with a mention of our most recent investigative series: Part 1 of our exclusive sit-down with Andrew Marquess of Gem Equities can be heard here. Hey there everyone! Billy hatred aside, 0 is a disappointing experiment that adds nothing of value to the series and, in some ways, takes a little away. At least it still looks great, eh...

This week on I Wish I Knew EDU, I’m back with Rebecca Chambers @MrsRChambers to reflect on a year of 100% Passion Based Learning in her classroom. We talk about what went well and what still needs some tweaking and hear about some of the inspiring work her Ss are doing.
Rebecca Chambers is currently a HS Social Science teacher who has been teaching in the Ottawa area for 16 years. She's on a mission to change the way we do school and has been on her own unlearning journey since she began. This year she has gone to a 100 % passion project based classroom. She tries to provide experiential, hands on learning with a focus on authentic audience. Rebecca is a firm believer in teaching her students to use social media in the classroom to help them have a real-world audience as well as to learn to create a positive digital tattoo.
In this episode I speak with Rebecca Chambers and her students Mackenzie, Rebecca Hayley, and Renee about how they "fail to learn". If people are interested in seeing the evolution of their passion based classroom they can check out Rebecca Chamber's blog here .

Rebecca is a high school teacher changing student lives in Ottawa, Ontario. She is known for her project / passion-based approach and describes her classroom as "controlled chaos". On this episode of the podcast, Rebecca and I talk about the importance of unlearning (along with the skills needed to do this)in order to have students believe that you can do things differently. She explains how she scaffolds student learning for them to be able to succeed in this approach and attain the goals they set out for themselves. We touch base on the power of students teaching students and why we should be trying to offer tasks where students can create for an authentic audience.
This week on I Wish I Knew EDU, I’m talking to Rebecca Chambers (@MrsRChambers) about Passion Projects, Inquiry Learning, getting students to self direct their learning and how to get the school out of school.

With Resident Evil 7 now behind us our attention turns back to the wider universe with the release of the third canonical CG film. Entitled Resident Evil Vendetta, the film again stars Leon S. Kennedy and picks up sometime after the events of Resident Evil 6. Also along for the ride this time are Chris Redfield and Rebecca Chambers, the latter making her first on-screen appearance since The Stage and Resident Evil Zero before that. As usual we dissect the film scene by scene and assess what worked and what didn't. Rombie is in full film analysis mode here as we discuss the portrayal of the three flagship characters, the new villain Glenn Arias, and the quick return to heavy action following the slow-burning horror of RE7. We break down the plot by looking at whether the 'vendetta' angle was successful based on character motivation, how the new A-Virus worked and whether an epic outbreak across New York was something the series really needed. Do audiences care about just another one-shot bad guy? What is the point behind Leon's involvement, and just who trains B.S.A.A. snipers wielding rail guns in this day and age?
This episode looks at the little-known stage play performed during a three week run in Tokyo last winter. The plot is set between the events of Resident Evil 5 and 6 and features the long-awaited return of Rebecca Chambers in her first chronological appearance since Resident Evil Zero. After coming to blows over factory designs and corporate logos last month, our panel sit down to analyse the story and discuss whether Resident Evil can transition successfully to a theatrical stage setting. We look at the characters, the acting, the costumes and the production design, coming away feeling quite positive which makes a refreshing change of late. In the news we look ahead to Tokyo Game Show 2016, speculating on 'The Lantern' trailer and the recent ESRB leak revealing the core plot and specific scenes from Resident Evil 7. Finally season 3 of the podcast signs off with an extended edition of Neptune's Biohazard Quiz.
This week, we return to the world of survival horror with the recently re-released 2002 prequel, Resident Evil Zero! Have you ever wondered what happened the night BEFORE that fateful night in the Spencer Mansion? Well, good news! Rebecca Chambers returns and her journey from the crashed Bravo Team helicopter to the dreaded Spencer Mansion was far more complex and dangerous than previously thought. Rebecca, assisted by an escaped convict with a heart of gold(?), must brave a legion of undead ghouls and grotesque leeches as she ventures through a spooky train, a second spooky mansion in the forest, subterranean laboratories, and also...a sewer. All the while, the dark past of the Umbrella Corporation unravels around her. Special cameo appearance by everyone's favorite traitorous cad, Albert Wesker!
After a short break, the team reassemble for the first episode of 2016 focusing on the stunningly beautiful HD Remaster of Resident Evil Zero. There is quite a bit of news to catch up on starting with the announcement of a third Resident Evil CG movie starring Chris, Leon and Rebecca Chambers as well as the imminent DVD release of Biohazard: The Stage. We also preview Umbrella Corps and almost had to pause recording as STARS_Tyrant suffered some kind of breakdown as he drowned in his own despair trying to discuss the game. The bulk of the podcast is dedicated to a technical breakdown of the new Zero re-release in which we discuss all the new features and whether it has improved the game since its original incarnation on the Game Cube. TheBatman thinks it's now the best-looking game in the series but George Trevor believes the added beauty to the visuals still don't make him enjoy the game as much as he should.
