*One little housekeeping note: GarageBand, the platform we use to bring together the intro, interview file, and outro to produce each episode, was not allowing me to import this week's interview file for some reason. So, unfortunately, all I could do was upload the interview itself here to Substack, without an official intro or outro like we usually have. But you're really just here to hear from our guest today, anyway, so hopefully that'll be ok. I appreciate your understanding and am praying GarageBand works for me next time!Chelsey DeMatteis is a wife, mom of two, podcast host, and author of two books, most recently the new Advent devotional, “A Thrill of Hope”. She is passionate about writing and speaking about Jesus and His life-changing truths. Today she comes on the show to share more about her Advent devotional and to encourage us with a message of the hope and light that are to be found in Christ. What We Chat About on This Episode:~Chelsey's new devotional book, A Thrill of Hope, what led her to write it, and what readers can expect~How the book is set up~Living with the hope of heaven in the midst of life's darkest and hardest seasons~Jesus as our living Hope~The metanarrative of Scripture and pictures of Christ that we see in the OT; why those are so important to see~The redemption power of God to take the hard seasons of loss and transform them into something beauty can come from~The light of Jesus and how it ministers to our hearts in life's darkest moments~The power of hope and holding onto it even when it's hard~Remembering the truths of Advent all year long~The plague of darkness in Exodus and how God continued to give His people light in that time; what that means for us today~How Jesus shows up for each of us in unique ways that mean something special to each of us~A particular day of the devotional that is extra special to Chelsey~Advent as a season of invitation to go deeper with Jesus and to share Him with others~Being the hands and feet of Jesus this season~What Chelsey's hope for this Advent book is~The burden of chasing the ‘perfect' aesthetic this Advent and making the choice instead to chase after Christ, where true worth, peace, and joy are found~And more!Inspiring Quotes to Remember:“Hope, as a believer, is an action. It is literally Jesus in action in my life. Not necessarily me going and doing for the Lord, but the Lord breathing life into me as I place my hope in Him. He is my hope.”“Whatever it is we are going through, it is always His light that will be able to pull us through. If we do not bury our heads and instead look for His light, we will see such beauty He is bringing in the midst of the hard.”“Hope it what gets us out of bed when things are terrible.”“We need the beautiful, life-giving, joy-filled truths of Advent all year long.”“While Egypt was under the plague of darkness for three days, God continued to give His people light. He led them by light, sustained them in light to foreshadow what Christ would come to do years later.”“Even when we feel like we are in captivity, the Lord's light is still over my life and literally inside me - I can carry that light with me wherever I go.”“If we just hunker down in Luke 2 during the Advent season and instead trace the light of God from the very beginning all the way to what is coming at the end, it is amazing to see how God shows up through His light and leading people that way. Seeing the big picture perspective during Advent makes it so much more powerful.”“Jesus shows up in our lives in unique ways that mean something special to us individually.”“Advent is not only an invitation for us to go deeper ourselves with the Lord, but also an invitation to notice others, pray for them and love them well, and be the hands and feet of Jesus to them, inviting the light to piece the darkness in their lives. The season of Advent is perfect for that.. It is a season of invitation to go deeper with Jesus and to share Jesus with others.”“Hope has come. Invite people to know that.”“There is no better news to share with others. If we are ready and willing, with our hands open, to deliver a meal, to listen, to pray for someone, to love them tangibly, then we can share the light of Christ with them this Advent.”“Stop chasing the ‘perfect' aesthetic this Advent. Chase after the Reason for Advent instead. Feel that burden fall off and find your worth and hope in the Lord. A deeper joy and real peace are found there.”“It's ok to love beauty this Advent. But don't love it more than Who we're celebrating.”Resources Mentioned:A Thrill of HopeMore of Him, Less of MeThe Matheny Manifesto: A Young Manager's Old-School Views on Success in Sports and Life by Mike MathenyFruitful: Cultivating a Spiritual Harvest That Won't Leave You Empty Love Lives Here: Finding What You Need in a World Telling You What You Want by Maria GoffEverybody, Always: Becoming Love in a World of Setbacks and Difficult People by Bob GoffThe Dream Giver by Bruce WilkersonWhere You Can Find Chelsey:Website: Chelsey DeMatteisInstagram: @chelseydematteis Get full access to Beyond the Boxes at rebekahhargraves.substack.com/subscribe

EPISODE 99: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (1:43) SPECIAL COMMENT: The House 1/6 Committee's criminal referrals of Trump are historic and headline-grabbing but they are symbols. The testimony and newly-released text of Hope Hicks, the ubiquity of the obscure Ken Klukowski in at least three tentacles of the coup plot, and the introduction of a whole new line of Obstruction of Justice are the real keys. Because not only are they the evidence the Department of Justice can use, but they also give us the shape of things to come: what the trial of Donald Trump will look like. And he says "what does not kill me makes me stronger"? OK, fella. Deal. B-Block (16:36) EVERY DOG HAS ITS DAY: Buddy (18:04) POSTSCRIPTS TO THE NEWS: It's not just that the Republicans elected a Congressman in New York whose entire resume is a lie, it's that the lazy, sloppy New York Democrats only found out about it when they read it in The New York Times (23:35) IN SPORTS: No, the NBA is not expanding to Mexico City now, any more than it was expanding there in 1992. And baseball mourns the pitcher who walked out on a World Series game because the baby was on the way - and the team had the play-by-play announcers try to beckon him back. C-Block (32:25) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: How is this possible? Probably the two most prominent blackmail stories of this century - and I once worked alongside the blackmailer in the first case, and I once worked alongside the blackmailee in the other!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Lead Pastor Dave Mudd talks about the dangers of misplaced hope and the difference Jesus makes this holiday season.
Day 3December 1st, 2020Scripture Meditation:“And on the seventh day God finished his work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work that he had done. 3 So God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it God rested from all his work that he had done in creation.” // Genesis 2:2-3Action Steps:Start planning a Sabbath this weekend. Consider actually starting the evening before at dinner time. As you plan, keep in mind these important factors that line up with how the Jews practice Sabbath to this day.Relent: Stop working. Remember that we must cease from both physical and mental work. So let go of whatever you’ve been trying to think through or figure out, just for a single day.Rest: Our bodies need rest, and we rest best when our minds and bodies are free from doing (including staring at screens!). Once you’ve “paused,” rest/sleep will come much easier.Remember: Hope has come into the world. Carve out time to reflect and remember that the God who created all things loves us so much He sent His Son to save us. You can make this a part of conversation over meals, in car rides, playing games, going for a walk, getting ice cream, sipping on cocoa or coffee, or whatever else your family enjoys doing together.Restore: Take time to consider together: What re-energizes us? What drains us? How can we do things as a family that are fun and energizing? How do we remove the things that drain us? Give yourselves permission to play and enjoy God’s creation.
Have you been discouraged during this season? Looking for hope? Check out this encouraging and inspiring message from Pastor Dan.
Here's our podcast from our online worship, March 15, 2020. In this message, in this time of worry and fear and stress, we need to be reminded that God is with us, and we need to be that reminder to someone else.
What are you afraid of today? For the shepherds it was pretty obvious. They were out in the field watching sheep, when, suddenly, the sky was lit up with the angels of heaven. We all have our fears: those pressures, noises, responsibilities, challenges of life that fill us with anxiety and threaten to rob our joy. Sometimes the fear of Christmas even steals the joy of Christmas. But the message of Christmas is that we fear not, because God did not leave us in darkness. This week we continue our Christmas series The First Noel looking at the message of Christmas as told by the angel to the shepherds. Remember Hope > Fear!
Mary and I had a wonderful time sitting down and talking to Janet Blair a second time. I have to admit I really love Janet’s music. She has wonderful voice and her songs are so well crafted and felt. I love that she uses many different instruments, that are different then most, the arrangements and her mood or atmosphere are amazing. For me personally, atmosphere is very important to the feel or mood. Some people would call it emotions (and that is fine/OK) but it’s deeper then that, the atmosphere is what creates a feel or ambience. I just think that mood is so very important, especially when you want to feel God’s Peace and Love or other attributes. Janet has this in all her work. I love that Janet is a very open, honest and transparent with her work. Telling her backstories and what inspired her and how God gave her those songs to take care of. Janet definitely had a wonderful time doing her first CD and it is apparent to me that she loves her path of songwriting. I know Mary and I wish her the best and that our hope is she will really fly this year, as she explores new songs that God has put on her heart. Thank You for being on our show. A lot of Janet’s Christian songs are on the Worship Cafe radio station stream. The songs we went over on the show are listed below, and I have Janets CD on my iPhone as I go about my day. I really love the whole CD but I really love “Belong” (the story behind writing it was fun), “For Shania (I Will Wait)”, “Remember Hope”, “Creation’s Song”. 1. Belong2. Divided3. Pastor Donald Lance preaches about the impact of choosing to remember hope in the darkest moments of life.
Hello everyone, Mary and I had a wonderful interview, with our guest Janet Blair. Janet tells us her life story in her area of music. She played piano from the first grade to high school and she has a love and passion for orchestral music. When she became a Junior in high School (I think) she decided to take up the oboe. She got a scholarship and has two degrees in oboe performance. Her path at first was to be a trained classical performer. As time moves forward, Janet had a tragic event happens, in which she had a tough time figuring it all out BUT God gave her a way to process all she was feeling and that was the vehicle of song writing. Song writing became her way to cope with her emotions. Her first song was called "For Shania (I Will Wait)". She loves playing in the studio and singing. In this hour interview we listened and got stories on 5 songs from her new CD called "Songs for the Waiting". The five songs are called "Eternity Growing", "Jesusland", "For Shania (I Will Wait)", "Remember Hope" and "Creation Song". Now I'm not a critic, but I love each of these songs for it's own special style. "For Shania (I Will Wait)" and "Remember Hope" are beautifully written and heart felt in the performance. they even go together emotionally and spiritually. "Eternity Growing" and "Jesusland" are both just fun songs, with a message. "Creation Song" is a landscape of sound, mood and song composition, with beautiful and rhythmic percussion, wonderful melodies and elegant traveling piano parts. I know this interview with Janet can bless you and many, so please take the time and have a listen. If you wish to get a hold of Janet she has all the normal Social Media outlets BUT she would like you to come by her main webpage to start, so I'm only going to put down the link direct to her website. You can always get a hold of her direct at that website, and so here is the address:https://janetblairmusic.comWe hope this interview blesses everyone, if you have the time please check it out and share with all your family, friends, and social media outlets. I want to encourage you today to remember that if you have life, you must continue to be hopeful. Do not give up on anything just because it has failed several times or it may not be working out the way you intended it to. Sometimes the struggle is hectic and hard but being alive trumps it all. Once there is life, there so much that you can do to make your situation better. Remember HOPE is the medicine to cure any distress and heartaches and it is because it promises Time - TOMORROW. Be blessed!
In this special sermon following the Black Forest fires that resulted in the tragic loss of two lives and almost 500 homes in Colorado Springs, Pastor Glenn Packiam reminds us that when we don't know what to say or how to pray, the Psalms give us language. From Psalm 42, we learn what it means to lament, to remember, and to hope. Our hope is never for a particular outcome nor in a particular thing; our hope is always in Christ alone - the God who joins us in the storm and works from within the world to renew it.
