It's time for one of the most hated South Park episodes of all time! Honestly, it was pretty enjoyable, especially Trey's Miss Haversham voice, which was giving us "Salad Fingers" vibes. The story is basically a non-canon parody of "Great Expectations", told in a way that only Parker and Stone know how.Support our show for EARLY & AD-FREE access to every show we produce, as well as 100 hours of exclusive content! The first ever academic study has finally been written about Salad Fingers, a video series created in 2004 that later went viral on YouTube. Salad Fingers featured a sickly green figure with lettuce leaves for hands who liked to stroke rusty spoons. The study argues Salad Fingers was a trailblazer of “weird youtube” and is still influencing internet culture today. In this episode of The Briefing, Eleanor Harrison-Dengate speaks with Jessica Balanzategui, a Senior Lecturer in Media at RMIT University, about why she thinks the series has been so influential. Welcome one-and-all to yet another episode of Constellation, Last Stand Media's conversational podcast. Accompanying the Brothers Moriarty this week are Gene Park and Micah Watson of Punching Up: A Nintendo Podcast. Since we're a cast full of writers, Dagan thought he'd probe our respective approaches to the craft, where we draw inspiration, and how we came to love the written word. Micah reflects on an old internet cartoon from her high school years, Salad Fingers. What is it that we love about surrealist and absurdist humor on the internet, and what are some of our favorite examples of similar fare? As a Washington DC resident, Gene has noticed first-hand the rise in criminality in his own city, and wonders if and when we as a society will get our heads around solving our myriad criminal justice-related problems. Finally, Colin wants to chat about Elon Musk. Do you love him, hate him, or fall somewhere in between? Is he an inspiration, a menace, a distraction, or perhaps just an annoyance? Believe it or not, no one holds back in their responses. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

Join Emily and Ky this Christmas Eve as they celebrate, and dissect a Christmas classic! There is no room for debate here: the 1966 Chuck Jones short cartoon is the definitive version of this heartwarming, and confusing, story. Is the Grinch related to Salad Fingers? Is the Grinch an amoeba? Does the Grinch just need a drink? Why does the roast beef have no bones? Emily and Ky tackle these important questions, and more! Don't miss them unpacking the words to that iconic Grinch song, and uncovering a wild connection to another past episode in Ky's fact check. How old were you when you first saw Salad Fingers? Is it Today Years Old? Well, pull up Youtube and acquaint yourself before joining Emily and Ky on their philosophical journey along with this guy, who's just a guy, you know? No judging corner today! Are these videos oddly soothing, or deeply disturbing? Did Salad Fingers unintentionally murder a child? Is he a lonely dude with a vivid imagination, and a gift for making finger puppets, or a lonely dude haunted by his memories and slowly (not so slowly) descending into madness? Is he British? What year is it? One thing we can all agree on: he loves him some metal! No, not the musical genre...listen, if you aren't already quoting all your favorite lines, you'd better be sitting down for this one.
