When an OT character is first introduced in narrative literature, we are typically given important clues about who they are and what they are going to do. So it is with Elijah, a foreigner who would seem to be an unlikely opponent of Baal worship. Dr. David Firth is Old Testament Lecturer at Trinity College, Bristol, UK. British comedy-horror animator David Firth is known universally for his Salad Fingers series, and has been putting up short films on his website fat-pie.com for decades. He has worked with the BBC and the likes of David Mitchell among many others.I think Lynchean – in that David Lynch manner – is the most apt word to describe his subtle blend of the creepy, eerie, nightmarish qualities of his cartoons with a very dark sense of humour. Catch him on Twitter and get yourself a Salad Fingers toy for Halloween. Before I forget – this background music is by the late Clara Rockmore on the Theremin instrument, and it ran through David’s Spoilsbury Toast Boy film, which is creepy as hell. This is like a Desert Island Discs of his stuff, as I play a bunch of clips of his best stuff, while he talks about them - all these clips belong to David Firth and the full versions can be found on fat-pie.com. Thanks David for allowing me to play these clips, and I hope it gives newcomers to his work a sense of what we’re dealing with here! I’ll put links to the full episodes of each of the clips I show in my blog on andrewgoldpodcast.com. Also check out his ambient music on Locust Toybox on Spotify – I’ll be using one of his clips for the outro. But now it’s the podcast - we talk about a lot of stuff, including where David gets his ideas, his dreams, his nightmares and his process as well as things like cancel culture and Pete Townsend. Want to Watch it?Watch Kuso on AmazonKuso I found it surprisingly hard to give a summary of this film. Even on IMDB, it only has the following plot summary: Events unfold after a devastating earthquake in Los Angeles.IMDB Kuso is a film directed by Flying Lotus, which is the stage name for Steven Ellison. It consists of 4 of what I hesitate to call, “Storylines” that are written by Steven, Zack Fox, and creator of salad fingers, David Firth. The plots of these vignettes are secondary to the surreal and disturbing imagery and production design of the whole affair. There is only one piece of trivia listed in IMDB for this movie: Received a large number of walkouts at Sundance and was deemed in an article written for Verge as "The grossest movie ever made.IMDB The Four Story Lines in Kuso Royal: a young couple with some interesting KinksMr. Quiggle: an Up-and-coming female rapper “B” goes to an alternative medicine doctorSmear: a young man has digestive issuesSock: a woman in search of her lost child But really replace all those story lines with poop and that’s probably a better description. I provide a more in-depth description of these story lines in the spoiler section further below. The First Movie We Ever Reviewed - The Devils' Doorway https://www.horrormovietalk.com/2018/07/24/the-devils-doorway/ Review of Kuso This is a type of movie that is almost impossible to review. If you say it’s terrible, you aren’t hip enough, if you say it’s great, you’re a pretentious douche bag. It's the type of film that you would find playing on a loop in a modern art museum. alternatively, it’s like a David Lynch student film project, but weaponized. I’ll just say that I didn’t enjoy it, but I think that is kind of the point. This film is truly one of the most consistently, visceral disgusting films I have ever seen. Most of the film just wallows in its own filth, but there are some moments that stand out. First being the Mr. Quiggle story line featuring Zack Fox playing Manuel who is treated by Doctor Clinton, played by George Clinton. The second being the finale, which somehow ups the ante of grossness after an hour and a half of pure grossness. Dr. Jerry Bromenshenk and Dr. David Firth from the Univerisity of Montana are working together on a new application for beekeepers called Bee Health Guru. The application uses artificial intelligence (AI) to listen to the sound and based upon complex algorithms and learned history, can provide a diagnosis of the colony's health. Simply amazing. Jerry and David join Jeff & Kim on this episode to talk about the history of the technology and the ongoing research of the technology under-pinnings of the cell phone app. At the beginning of the podcast, you can hear Jeff listening to a audio clip of a 2-deep colony of bees at rest. Then suddenly, no... instantly, their tone changes. Could you tell what happened? The audio file was provided by Dr. Bromenshenk. In the recording, a colony of honey bees 'at rest' are given one (1) drop of toluene. The communication through the hive was instantaneous. This is a strange one, Spookaroos. Eric invited Fatima Elmi over to watch the internet cartoon Salad Fingers with him. She'd never heard of it, but it was very popular in its day. People wondered what it was...and why it was. Spoiler alert: Fatima doesn't care for it and seems legit mad at Eric for making her watch it. In short, Salad Fingers is a green humanoid creature who seems to enjoy pain as well as touching and licking things. He lives alone, but populates his lonely world with characters of his own creation...or does he? Always strong and occasionally disturbing, Salad fingers has attracted a cult audience as well as some haters. Salad Fingers was created by British animator David Firth. He released the series in segments over the course of about 9 years. He hasn't released a new episode since 2014, but last November, he announced he's working on Salad Fingers again. spookyas.com facebook.com/spookyas Music by Occultic Overtones
Special Guests: David Firth and Charrise McCrorey, The CoQuora Project The future is not what it used to be. This can certainly be said for the concept of ‘leadership’. Prior to 2016, despite still agreeing that there are countless definitions of what leadership is. we might have all coalesced around the general idea that leaders set visions, engage followers and, above all, model certain key values such as integrity, honesty and perseverance. Events across the world challenged that default thinking. At CoQuora we believe the time is right for a radical shift in our understanding of where leadership is and how it works (as opposed to asking ‘Who is the leader?).’ Join us to hear 5 provocative principles - five crazy ideas - that we see as foundational to a new era for leadership in the world. We will also share the essential mindset that current leaders need to have to kick start this new way of leading and will illustrate that with a couple of recent case studies. Working together in The CoQuora Project, Charrise McCrorey and David Firth are committed to deepening engagement around what matters in all aspects of society - communities, education and healthcare as well as in commercial organizations. They work with clients to create new levels of connection and trust among all stakeholders, and then set up the conditions for inspired action and positive change to take place. Special Guest: Charrise McCrorey and David Firth of The CoQuora Project Working together in The CoQuora Project, Charrise McCrorey and David Firth are committed to deepening engagement around what matters in all aspects of society - communities, education and healthcare as well as in commercial organisations. In this episode, we take a provocative stance, asking us all to upgrade what we mean by ‘engagement’ and to discover what ‘beyond engagement’ might look like. We believe that there are in fact only two levels of engagement. Anything below this is not actually ‘engagement'. We assert that there is no such thing as a low level of engagement or a high level of disengagement. If you have what we commonly refer to as a low level of engagement, you’ve stopped talking about engagement. Join us as we explore with listeners the two authentic levels of engagement and how leaders of today can create that for themselves, their teams and their organisations. Host: Jo Moffatt

As Colin Firth is honoured with a star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame, Jonathan Maitland profiles the actor hotly tipped to receive an Oscar for his performance in The King's Speech.Colin Firth is famous for his eclectic roles and campaigning zeal. He first came to prominence in the BBC adaption of Pride & Prejudice. He played Mr Darcy, a performance he claims never to have watched in full. But his break was as a public schoolboy in Another Country. His real life was very different, he went to a state school in Winchester. At home, books and theatre were highly valued. His grandparents were missionaries which might help to explain his involvement in a number of charitable and campaigning organisations. He is particularly interested in supporting indigenous people, fair trade and foreign development. In the past he has supported Labour and came out - briefly - last year for the Lib Dems. His career has mixed serious roles in Tom Ford's A Single Man and Michael Winterbottom's Genoa with Phyllida Lloyd's Mamma Mia and the reprisal of Mr Darcy in the Bridget Jones films. Profile talks to his parents, Shirley and David Firth, the actor, David Morrissey and director Sir Richard Eyre.Producer: Rosamund Jones.
