It's been a little over three months since the small eastern British Columbian town of Tumbler Ridge was rocked after a shooter opened fire at the local secondary school. Eight people were killed and dozens were injured. In the weeks that followed, a number of lawsuits and investigations have ensued, as well as plans to demolish and rebuild the school where the shooting took place. Host Caryn Ceolin speaks to Trent Ernst, a publisher at Tumbler RidgeLines Newspaper, to discuss how the community's been grappling with the aftermath and what its members expect from the government at this point.

The criminal case of Eric Hainstock centers on a 15-year-old student who, in September 2006, brought a shotgun and handgun into Weston High School and fatally shot his principal, John Klang, after a confrontation over disciplinary issues. Hainstock had a history of behavioral problems and claimed he had been bullied, though investigations found mixed evidence supporting that claim. Following his arrest, he was charged as an adult and later convicted of first-degree intentional homicide; in 2008, he was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after a lengthy period, reflecting the severity of the crime and the court's view of premeditation.https://linktr.ee/UnforbiddentruthBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/unforbidden-truth--4724561/support.
Greg Belfrage talks to listeners about banning cell phones in schools. This is in reaction to a recent survey about smartphones. They are picked up at least 64 times a day by children even while in schools. The reaction of most listeners is they didn't have cell phones while in school and therefore kids today can be without them. One caller said they should be banned nationwide. Another caller pointed out the issues with students not having their cell phones and possible school shooter incidents. Lots of great viewpoints. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Hidden Killers With Tony Brueski | True Crime News & Commentary
Colin Gray is on trial for second-degree murder — not because he pulled a trigger, but because prosecutors say he put the weapon in his son's hands and ignored every warning that followed. His son, Colt Gray, allegedly walked into Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia on September 4, 2024 and opened fire, killing two students and two teachers and wounding nine others in the deadliest school shooting in Georgia history. Colin Gray faces 29 felony counts and up to 180 years in prison. The prosecution's case is built on a timeline that is difficult to look away from. An FBI-flagged threat investigation in 2023 where deputies warned Colin to keep his son away from firearms. A Christmas gift months later — a Sig Sauer M400 AR-style rifle, along with ammunition, tactical accessories, and unrestricted bedroom access. A shrine to the Parkland shooter found in the teenager's room. A counseling request where Colin described his son as volatile and angry. A text from Colt to his father weeks before the shooting that allegedly read: "Whenever something happens, just know the blood is on your hands." And when law enforcement arrived at Colin's home after the shooting, prosecutors say he met them in the garage and said two words without being prompted: "I knew it."This case follows the landmark Crumbley convictions in Michigan — the first time parents were held criminally responsible for a mass school shooting carried out by their child. But Colin Gray's charges go further. Second-degree murder, not manslaughter. A legal theory built on cruelty to children resulting in death. If a Georgia jury convicts, it won't just continue the Crumbley precedent — it will fundamentally escalate it. This episode breaks down the case, the timeline, and what this trial means for parental accountability in America.#ColinGray #ColtGray #ApalacheeHighSchool #ApalacheeShooting #SchoolShooting #ParentalAccountability #CrumbleyPrecedent #WinderGeorgia #TrueCrime #HiddenKillersJoin Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? December 30th: Anthony Barbaro Kills (1974) Not all school shooters fit the profile we've made up in our heads. The one fed to us by Hollywood, the media and, in some cases, actual real life experience. On December 30th 1974 a young man walked into a school armed and ready to pull the trigger. A boy who didn't really fit the profile of a school shooter in the same way we've come to expect. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1974_Olean_High_School_shooting, https://www.nytimes.com/1974/12/31/archives/3-killed-and-9-wounded-by-an-upstate-sniper-18-3-killed-and-9.html, https://murderpedia.org/male.B/b/barbaro-anthony.htm, https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/81616968/anthony-f-barbaro Learn more about your ad choices. Since 1999, there have been more than 430 school shootings across the nation. Oregon alone has had eight incidents since 2008, according to CNN. With school shootings being a concern for parents, teachers and students, a new industry around school safety has emerged. Estimated to be worth $4 billion, school shooting preparedness and security is projected to continue to grow. From panic buttons and bullet-resistant backpacks to drill simulations and AI gun detection software, the amount of products and services being sold to schools and districts varies wildly. A new HBO documentary, “Thoughts and Prayers,” takes a look at this industry and follows students, teachers and community members during a mass-casualty event drill in Medford, Oregon. Directors Zackary Canepari and Jessica Dimmock join us to share more about the school security industry.

In this powerful episode, we sit down with Detective Michael Collazo, the Marine infantry veteran and Nashville officer who stopped the Covenant School shooter in March 2023. Mike breaks down the moments leading up to the entry, the rapid decision-making under active gunfire, and how his Marine Corps background kept him calm, focused, and mission-driven in one of the most chaotic environments imaginable. He discusses the real-world importance of range training, fitness, and continuous education, and how years of conditioning, including intense fitness work while deployed overseas, built the foundation that allowed muscle memory to take over when seconds mattered most. Mike shares how officers can prepare mentally and physically for high-risk encounters, and why repetition and training are the difference between hesitation and decisive action.Mike also takes time to honor the three children whose lives were tragically lost, Will, Evelyn, and Hallie, and reflects on how their memory continues to motivate him to teach others, lead by example, and help officers be as prepared as possible should they ever face a similar threat. This is a rare and honest look into the realities of confronting an active shooter, and the preparation, mindset, and purpose behind the man who ran toward the gunfire.

Victor Davis Hanson explains why this was not simply a tragedy, but an act of evil, and why the media and political leaders refuse to have an honest discussion about the factors behind it on today's episode of “Victor Davis Hanson: In His Own Words.” “They won't have any discussion over transgenderism. This falls in the broader category of exempt DEI woke topics, but I think we should talk about this. This is the fourth or fifth incident—I don't even like the word "incident"—occurrence of transgendered shooters who are protected by authorities. “We were told, "Be careful about Big Pharma. Be careful about Big Med." All of those worries and prohibitions and cautions were thrown out the window, as were SSRI antidepressants. These were selective serotonin prohibitors. In other words, they altered the chemistry of the brain, supposedly, to correct mental disturbances, depression, bipolarity. But they're very dangerous drugs. But when it came to the exempt topic of transgenderism, suddenly the society was supposed to accept that this was not a mental disorder. It was not a rare occurrence. It was a national crisis where large percentages of the population were transgendering.”
