Eni Aluko was the darling of the woke establishment—until one comment about Ian Wright brought it all crashing down. After our explosive debate on Heretics, she sent me a barrage of private messages, revealing far more than she intended. What started as a polite disagreement became one of the most controversial moments in sports punditry. Why was Eni really forced out of the Women's Football Awards? Why did the media turn on one of their own? And how did she become the target of the very outrage culture she once championed? In this video, I break down: - The viral moment that got Eni cancelled - Her private messages to me—and what they reveal - Why her comment about Ian Wright was the wrong target at the wrong time - The silent rebellion inside football against woke orthodoxy - What this saga tells us about race, gender, and power in modern media This is more than a media scandal—it's a story about identity, hypocrisy, and the fragile rules of the woke game. And for once, Eni Aluko wasn't holding the cards.

Trans women should use toilets according to their biological sex, according to the equalities minister Bridget Phillipson, this is in response to the UK Supreme Court's ruling a week ago on the legal definition of a woman. The Prime Minister Keir Starmer has welcomed the decision, saying it provides much needed clarity, and his office has confirmed that the Prime Minister no longer believes trans women are women. There have been protests against the decision, with critics saying it is incredibly worrying for the trans community. The ruling followed a long-running legal battle between the Scottish Government and the campaign group For Women Scotland. Susan Smith, one of the directors, gives her reflections on the outcome, a week on. The historian Tiffany Watt Smith traces the evolution and messy realities of female friendship across the past century in her new book Bad Friend. Tiffany talks to Clare about bad friends through history: the romantic school girls of the 1900s; office gossips; mum cliques; angry activists; and the coven – women who choose to live together in old age – to the present day. The former lioness Eni Aluko had a hugely successful career as a player making over 100 appearances for England. Since then she's gone on to have an equally successful career as a pundit, becoming the first woman to appear on Match of the Day in 2014. Earlier this month her name was in the headlines following the outcome of a civil court hearing involving the ex-footballer Joey Barton. In the first stage of a High Court libel case the Judge found that online posts made by Joey Barton about Eni and her family were "defamatory". Mr Barton is yet to respond, and can appeal, or defend the statements if the case proceeds to trial. In a separate criminal case involving both parties Joey Barton has pleaded not guilty to allegedly posting offensive comments on social media. An Army of Women is a documentary that follows a group of women in Austin, Texas who took on the legal systems that they feel let their rapists walk free – specifically by filing lawsuits against the police department in Austin and the district attorney's office in Travis County, which prosecutes cases for the county. Those suits were settled in 2021 and 2022. The documentary debuted at the South by Southwest Festival last year, and is being released here in the UK from this Friday. Clare speaks to documentary director Julie Lunde Lillesæter and Hanna Senko, who was the lead plaintiff in one of those lawsuits.Presented by Clare McDonnell Producer: Louise Corley

This week's episode was rocked by the announcement Repsol was merging its North Sea assets with private-equity backed Neo Energy. Energy Voice reporter Mathew Perry explains this is part of a trend for operators to distance themselves from the basin including Shell and Equinor, while Michael Behr confirms this the supply chain is also making marriages of convenience. One of the big North Sea buyers has been Ithaca Energy, which last year combined with Eni which in turn had absorbed Neptune Energy. Now they are looking at reviving the fortunes of West of Shetland's Cambo, the basin's second largest undeveloped oil and gas find and green campaigner bogeyman. Lastly, news editor Erikka Askeland tackles Chancellor Rachel Reeves' spring statement that wasn't, at least for the energy industry, and asks if it's possible for the UK to claim to be a superpower of both clean energy as well as the defence industry.

In this episode of The SAF Podcast, host Oscar is joined by Lahiru Ranasinghe, Director of Sustainability at EasyJet, to explore the airline's journey toward net zero. With aviation's decarbonization at the forefront of industry discussions, Lahiru outlines EasyJet's three-pronged strategy—Reduce, Replace, Remove—which balances efficiency improvements, sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) adoption, and long-term hydrogen integration.  Discover how EasyJet is navigating the complex SAF landscape by strategically securing supply agreements across Europe to meet regulatory mandates while exploring voluntary market opportunities. Lahiru provides candid insights into the airline's SAF procurement strategy, highlighting recent partnerships with producers like ENI in Italy and Moeve in Spain. Whilst acknowledging that airlines "can't optimize their way to zero."The conversation tackles the SAF green premium head-on - sustainable aviation fuel costs 2-7 times more than conventional jet fuel, yet EasyJet operates with razor-thin margins of just £6.10 profit per seat. This creates a fundamental tension for an airline committed to democratizing air travel. Their pragmatic solution? Focus first on securing SAF partnerships across Europe to meet regulatory mandates while exploring innovative approaches like corporate SAF certificates that allow business customers to address their Scope 3 emissions.Ranasinghe also gives a candid assessment of the "first-mover disadvantage" in long-term SAF agreements. With future production likely to become more efficient and less expensive, airlines that lock in decade-long contracts today risk putting themselves at a competitive disadvantage tomorrow. This chicken-and-egg problem requires creative solutions like Project SkyPower's proposed market intermediary to bridge the gap between producers' need for certainty and airlines' commercial realities. We also dive into EasyJet's hydrogen ambitions, discussing Airbus' timeline delays, the impact on fleet planning, and how hydrogen-powered aircraft could revolutionize short-haul travel by 2040. Plus, we examine the financial realities of SAF adoption, carbon pricing under EU ETS, and whether passengers are willing to pay a green premium. You might have noticed a trend for Project Skypower over recent episodes and the work they are doing developing EFuel policy infrastructure, which you can find out more here: https://project-skypower.org/If you enjoyed this episode, check out our previous episode with Jonathan Pardoe, Star Alliance here: https://www.buzzsprout.com/2202964/episodes/13933438
