True Crime Tuesday presents The Last Jewish Gangster: The Middle Years with Author, David S. Larson! When we last left Michael Hardy, he was entering the world's most dangerous prison in Mexico after taking the rap for his mother's counterfeiting scheme, trusting she'll love him this time. He's set to do twelve years for the crime. To survive, he works for a gay drug lord as his gringo pistolero, and kills three times. After he gets out, Hardy returns to Brooklyn, tries to go straight, but drifts back into a world of crime. He gets Sammy “the Bull” Gravano to join his crew to pull major heists like kidnapping drug lords for million-dollar ransoms, and robbing cop bag men. To evade the law, he goes to Europe and ends up in Israel where he works on a Kibbutz, touching the hem of his Jewish heritage. Hardy devolves further into a gangster's life when he returns to Brooklyn, running a finger of the Mob's Five-Fingers International Car Theft Ring, participating in a stolen airline ticket scam, and does fourteen hits for the Mob, hoping his mother will notice. When she gets busted for the car theft ring, she turns him in to reduce her time. He's taken by marshals across the country twice, and ends up cutting a deal with Rudy Giuliani to nab a very dirty cop to reduce his time. And, THERE IS SO MUCH MORE! David Larson joins us today to talk about this chapter of Michael Hardy's life, which only spans SIX YEARS! You have to hear this show to believe it! The early 2000s were a special time in Canadian music. It was a moment when the rest of the world really took notice of Canadian indie music. Suddenly, we were cool! And so, this week on the podcast, Canadian Musician Editor-in-Chief Michael Raine is joined by music journalist, author, and music historian Michael Barclay to discuss his latest book, Hearts on Fire: Six Years that Changed Canadian Music, 2000-2005. Barclay discusses the socio-economic factors that allowed for thriving music scenes all around Canada in those years, in the influence of Napster and file sharing, his own experiences interviewing bands and attending concerts in that era, the relationships between the bands, Canada's perpetual inferiority complex when it comes to art, and more.

Today is an extra personal episode … we are officially kicking off Season 4. This season comes out as our family hits 6 years since my 21-year-old son Alex died by suicide. For this season premiere episode, I sat down in a Zoom-style quasi-round-table-talk with (some of ) my family to revisit & review not only where we are now but also what the journey of the past 6 years has looked like for us, collectively and individually. Surviving suicide loss is anything but easy -but doing it together helps. In this episode, I chat with: G.R. - my husbandParker - my youngest childAubrie - Parker's long-time girlfriend. (they are both 24 years old)Jennifer- my best friend of 20 years. We talked about: The day Alex died - the feelings, the fog, the chaos The weeks that followed - survival, hyper-vigilance & moreThe years leading up to now - how we survived, began to reengage in life, & now, how we are rebuilding from here... …and I think it was enlightening as well as healing on some level for all of us. I hope you take something helpful - maybe even hopeful- from it as well. I know I sure did! Also, please reach out if you want to share a guest or topic idea for Season 4 - and I am always open to feedback if you have it! melissa@theleftoverpieces.com_______________________________________________ My WEBSITE "The Leftover Pieces; Rebuilding You" support central - MY HUB - and that means my different SUPPORT GROUP Options are available and much more will be coming in 2022 and 2023 "The Leftover Pieces; Rebuilding You"Go DIRECTLY to my SUPPORT page here where you will find ALL of the ways to connect and find supportMy first two books (tools I am creating for you!) in the "Facing Life After Suicide" series are available on AmazonIf you, or someone you know, is struggling with suicidal thoughts PLEASE reach out:The National Suicide Lifeline is there for you OR CALL 988In a crisis you can also TEXT--->TEXT the word "HOME" to 741741 in the USAin Canada TEXT 686868in the UK TEXT 85258Support the show

The band was formed in 2012 when a few longtime friends and high school classmates got together in a basement to cover their favorite songs. As the band grew and evolved they traded covers for original music and began to develop a live improvisational chemistry that would come to define their sound. They released their debut self-titled EP in January 2015, a blues and garage-rock influenced set that compiles four highlights from the band's early material. After the EP's release, the band took a drastic sonic turn, opting for more lush, mellow, and psychedelic textures. This approach culminated in their first full-length album Live at the Fillmore, released in August of 2016. Six years ago, Türkiye faced its greatest internal threat in a generation. A military faction, hidden deep within the Turkish armed forces, launched a coup attempt on July 15, 2016, on the orders of the FETO terror group. That night, as coup plotters began occupying key parts of the country, hundreds of thousands of Turkish citizens took to the streets to take on the rogue soldiers. In the end, 251 people were dead and more than 2,200 were injured. But six years on, the failed coup's mastermind remains at large. Fethullah Gulen, who leads the FETO terror organisation, has been living under protection in the US state of Pennsylvania. Despite long-running disputes over the US's harbouring of terror suspects, some progress was made recently. On the eve of a NATO summit in Madrid, Sweden and Finland, agreed to stop supporting the FETO terror group. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan welcomed the move, saying it was the first time FETO was mentioned as a terror organisation by NATO. We ask how far has Türkiye's fight against terrorism gone since that July night, and what challenges lie ahead? Guests: Rich Outzen Former US Diplomat Murat Koc Professor at Cag University Vehbi Baysan Political Analyst
A review has found water in the Wellington region hasn't been fluoridated properly for at least six years. The report, which has been made public this afternoon, said fluoridation for oral health was not a priority within Wellington Water - which has apologised for the failings. This was partly due to weak regulatory settings.Regulation has focused on the safety of drinking water and only ensured it was never over-dosed with fluoride, the report found. The independent inquiry was launched following revelations the water company turned off fluoride at two plants last year without telling the board, councils, or residents. But the investigation by consultancy firm MartinJenkins has revealed the extent of Wellington's fluoride failure reaches far beyond the point of facilities being turned off.Since July 2016, on average, fluoridation has been administered effectively just 20 per cent of the time at Te Mārua and Gear Island treatment plants. These plants, plagued by ageing and unreliable fluoride infrastructure, supply water to Upper Hutt, Porirua and Wellington City residents.Over the course of the saga, Regional Public Health was aware the water wasn't being fluoridated properly but didn't raise this as a concern, the report said.Eventually, fluoridation was turned off at Te Mārua in May 2021 after the supply was overdosed with fluoride twice in the space of one month. On both occasions, the problem was caught before the water reached residents. Many people were copied into emails about the fact fluoridation had been switched off."Although a lot of people knew something needed to be done, people were assuming that someone else was taking responsibility for leading the response," the report said. Deputy Prime Minister and Wellington Central MP Grant Robertson has previously said Wellington Water has a lot of explaining to do. Photo / FileMore emails suggested in October 2021 that the councils should be told about the situation, but there was a reluctance to do this until there was a firm plan in place.Fluoridation was then turned off at Gear Island in November 2021 because the storage tanks were past their use-by-date and the building's ceiling was deteriorating.A lack of ownership and escalation to senior leadership meant reinstating fluoridation at the plants was not progressed urgently enough, the report found. When the situation was eventually escalated, Wellington Water's board told the public fluoridation had been switched off at Gear Island and Te Mārua in February 2022.Days later it emerged this statement was incorrect, which the review said was a result of people "talking past each other"."However, I am confident there was no deliberate attempt to hide the length of time that fluoride had been turned off at the two plants," Doug Martin of MartinJenkins said. The report was clear efforts were made at an operational level to address problems with the fluoridation facilities, but a lack of oversight and prioritisation made for slow progress. The insufficient visibility at governance and management levels to ensure effective fluoridation created a "corporate invisibility"."Over time, this has led to a lack of appreciation internally of the importance that stakeholders and the public place on effectively fluoridated water."Interviewees described a "reactive culture and learned hopelessness" through which they gradually accepted investments to resolve systemic issues would not be granted. This was compounded by the fact fluoridation facilities were not considered critical assets. There were also historical challenges to providing fluoride safely. These included shortages, resulting in bad quality powder being used and packaging breaking down and getting caught in the dosing system. In a statement, Wellington Water board chairwoman Lynda Carroll said they apologised for...See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

June marks my 6th year of living in Iceland and it has certainly been a whirlwind of a year. Every year I try to reflect on what has happened and share what might be relevant or interesting for my audience. Interestingly, six seems to be a significant number in my life. For instance, my birthday is 160686, my phone number has a lot of sixes in it and even my new apartment block has the number 6. It‘s possible that these have nothing to do with each other but it is still fun to point that out while I am celebrating six years of being here. How My Work /Career in Iceland Has Changed All Things Iceland is my full-time job and it has been so fun and challenging to navigate this country as an entrepreneur. The tax situation was a shock at first but I think I have a handle on it now. Well, at least my accountant does! As I build relationships with individuals and companies, I find my connection to this country deepening. As I have grown on platforms, I find it amazing how awesome my community is. All of you are such supportive, fun people that engage in respectful ways and I'm so grateful for that. TikTok is new for me but that is now where most Icelanders recognize me, which is kind of bizarre but I embrace it. I have a lot of things I'm developing that will be helpful resources for travelers and I look forward to sharing those soon While it can be easy to only talk about the positive aspects, I do have to say there are cons too, such as getting overwhelmed, working non-stop, hardly ever taking a vacation, and trying to balance having a life with work. I'm still adjusting to all of this but I know it takes time to find what works best for me. Photo by Art Bicnick My Progress Learning Icelandic This topic has been one that I have talked about on and off over the years. While my understanding, speaking and writing continue to improve and evolve, I still do not consider myself to be fluent. One reason for the stall in progress there is that I've been so focused on All Things Iceland. In addition, I've stopped being so hard on myself when it comes to learning. Part of what makes learning Icelandic interesting to me is that I allow for it to be fun and casual. I also have enough knowledge to use it in conversations. I will admit that I do feel it is necessary for me to keep learning and I plan to get to a level of fluency that satisfies me. What I mean by that is that I can have complex conversations in Icelandic easily. Some years ago it would have been difficult for me to admit this to people but now I embrace the fact that my language journey is not linear. There is no shame in not being perfect at it, and I think it is so important to be open and honest about what the process can be like for some people. Adapting to Icelandic Society Luckily, I've always felt like it was the right decision for me to move to Iceland. It definitely feels like home and I am well aware of most of the traditions. The fun thing now is that I get to dive deeper. For instance, I was in the Westman Islands recently, and I had such an amazing time getting shown around by some locals. This island off the coast of mainland Iceland has a lot going on, just like the different regions of the country. It's funny how highlighting a specific place allows me to expand my knowledge about Iceland in profound ways. One of the things I plan to dive into, especially regarding the Westman Islands, is talking to locals there that had to flee the island during the 1973 volcanic eruption of Eldfell. I love that part of this work and I can't wait to share those stories in the future. Photo by Tida Svy What's Next for My Journey in Iceland Summer has just begun and I have already traveled a decent amount, but that is just the beginning for me. I have so many episode ideas and trip planning tips to share, so keep a lookout for that. Over on Instagram, I share a lot of short videos (reels) about Iceland,

While six years have elapsed since the Brexit vote, the point at which all things changed was 31 January 2020, right in the middle of Covid, so it is difficult to gauge the full effect. IGTV's Jeremy Naylor caught up with Simon French, managing director and chief economist at Panmure Gordon. French says, under his calculations, UK GDP is three percentage points smaller than it would otherwise have been had Brexit not happened but conceded that Covid has been an issue that's clouded the waters somewhat.Any opinion, news, research, analysis, or other information does not constitute investment or trading advice. All athletic careers must come to an end, and frankly, it's quite an achievement to become so good at swimming that your accomplishments can be summed up as a “career” from which you “retire.” A high school phenom turned Stanford standout and USA National Team member, Grant Shoults' career had many highlights along with obstacles to overcome. A PAC-12 champion, Stanford record holder, and extra super senior (thanks to a medical redshirt + COVID year, he swam 6 years on The Farm), Grant recently made the difficult decision to walk away from competitive swimming as he enters medical school, but he walks away with his head held high, proud (as he should be), and he still makes time to get in and social kick. Although shoulder problems that often plague distance swimmers derailed his career at times, his retirement plan includes 3x chest days a week in the gym, so we may just see Grant back as a sprinter soon enough. There's little question that the Reserve Bank is poised to raise its benchmark interest rate to its highest level in six years later today, but plenty of questions still to be asked about the economic bump.

Have you hit a plateau in sales and find yourself struggling to expand your business? In this week's episode, learn how Rob Lynch, CEO of Dome Construction, was able to grow their business from $100 million to $600 million in six years by adopting Same Side Selling across the company. Rob shares how his team focused on what they were best at, the value they bring and how to differentiate themselves from their competition while delivering the best results for their clients. Dome Construction not only overcame their plateau and 6x their results but also has even more room now for continued expansion. Get this… 95% of their projects are repeat clients who are so happy with their results, that they come back to Dome Construction for more. Quotes: “When we came across (Same Side Selling Academy) and started learning about some of your techniques and your approaches, it helped us become really clear about what we were good at, what differentiates us and how we bring value to our business partners. So once we became really clear on that, that really allowed us to focus on the right business partners, and the right opportunities for us where we could deliver that value, and have it be appreciated.” “In these six years, we've certainly broken through that $100 million, we're up to around $600 million now and have the growth to go with it. All while reinforcing our culture, building our brand, and most importantly, really delivering the results for our business partners that they need and they desire.” Looking for more guidance and support on handling all your B2B sales struggles?
