The programme, which is now in its fourth year, has provided Irish SMEs with an investment of over €650,000 by Three since 2021 across products and services, marketing and PR support, as well as access to industry expertise. Funded by Three Ireland and managed by the small business network and support provider, Enterprise Nation, the programme awards 10 small businesses, a portion of the €100,000 bursary. This bursary will comprise of €5,000 cash, €5,000 for device and connectivity solutions for each winner, as well as mentoring and support from Three Ireland's in-house experts. Padraig Sheerin, judge for Three Ireland's Grants for Small Businesses programme and Head of SME, Three Ireland, said: "Three prides itself on supporting businesses big and small across Ireland to scale and innovate through our connectivity products and solutions. This unique programme enables small businesses to not only avail of funds but also to access a range of hands-on support and mentorship from Three business experts. Since Three launched this SME Grant Programme four years ago, we have seen incredible growth from winning businesses and we are so proud of the role we can play in supporting them as they scale." Previous winners of the programme include successful growing Irish businesses like Donegal based Pumpskynz which makes accessories for diabetes devices, and Galway-based accessible gaming specialists ByoWave. Since being awarded a portion of the Three grant in 2021, Byowave have since scaled their business and have become an official partner with Microsoft. They recently launched their Proteus Controller globally at Gamescom and Byowave have also received further investor funding of €1.5m and continue on their mission to make gaming accessible to all. Three continues to support these businesses and is proud to announce that Niamh Tallon from Her Sport, (who was a 2021 Grant Winner), will also be part of the judging panel this year. Niamh Tallon, founder of Her Sport and winner of the 2021 Three Ireland Grant, said: "Winning Three Ireland's Grants for Small Businesses programme has been invaluable to us in boosting our growth journey. The bursary and business support from Three has helped us to add people to our team, increase brand awareness through more publicity and ensured we have the right tech in place to thrive as a young business. I am honoured to be one of the judges this year on the programme as I know how it feels to start your own business and I cannot wait to be inspired by the next generation of businesses coming through the programme in 2024. I encourage all small businesses to enter. You never know, you could be the next winner, just like Her Sport was in 2021." Sonya Lennon, judge for Three Ireland's Grants for Small Businesses programme and Entrepreneur and Workplace Equality Advocate, said: "What a privilege to see baby titans in the making. Extraordinary young companies get precisely what they need to mould themselves for success through this powerful programme each year. I've witnessed that growth in the years I have been involved. If ever there was a reason to apply for this competition, it's the success of those who went before you." New research from Three Ireland reveals that over two thirds (69%) of SMEs do not believe they are supported enough as a business to grow further. The sentiment survey of over 300 small and medium sized companies in Ireland was carried out to mark the launch of Three Ireland's annual Grants for Small Businesses which comprises of a €100,000 bursary. The grant programme, funded by Three Ireland and managed by the small business network and support provider, Enterprise Nation, seeks to fund 10 small businesses and award them a portion of a €100,000 bursary. The bursary will be made up of cash, plus advice, support and connectivity solutions from Three Ireland's expert business advisers. With the cost of living steadily rising, the support SMEs require for day-to-day costs is evident – with 29% of businesses surveyed stating that cost of living support would be the most beneficial business support for growth. The research also outlined that government grants or funding for business (24%) and tax incentives (24%) were the next most beneficial support for business growth. These findings further underscore the necessity of offerings such as Three Ireland's Grants for Small Businesses and highlight how the challenges for small businesses vary significantly from larger corporations. Padraig Sheerin, judge for Three Ireland's Grants for Small Businesses and Head of SME, Three Ireland, said: “At Three, we've seen first-hand what the grant programme can do and the feedback we've had from last year's winners has been extremely positive. They have made incredible strides and I'm so happy Three has been there to support them in the next stages of their journey. “The results we've seen from the research have further outlined the challenges we know SMEs face daily. With the rising cost of materials, equipment, and services being the top (15%) challenge for businesses, we know our grant will alleviate some of the pressure and allow our winners to focus on growing their businesses to the best of their ability.” Sonya Lennon, judge for Three Ireland's Grants for Small Businesses and Entrepreneur and Advocate for Workplace Equality, said: “I am delighted to come on board as a judge for Three's Grants for Small Businesses programme, and to see the development of so many exciting companies who are thriving with the support of Three. Seeing how the small businesses from this programme have developed and grown their teams over the course of the past year is inspirational. “It serves as a reminder of what we can achieve when we are given the proper fuel. I have been involved with various small businesses throughout my career, and know the hard work, dedication and perseverance it takes to build something from the ground up. “Last year's winners, including ByoWave, AgriGuardian and HerSport, really inspire me – their extraordinary teams are shaping our future, enacting real change and altering the landscape of their respective fields. What Three Ireland has done with this programme is powering such positive change. These businesses won't be small for long.” The sentiment survey has also revealed a marked increase in support for mental health and wellbeing when compared to pre-pandemic levels – with 15% of companies offering mental health/counselling services compared to 11% pre-pandemic, and 18% of companies offering wellbeing support compared to 12% pre-pandemic. Today's guest is the emodiment of a powerhouse – I'm mad about her, Sonya Lennon. Sonya is probably best known for her dedication to fashion – from working as a stylist to presenting Off the Rails on RTE with Brendan Courtney the pair went on to form fashion label Lennon Courtney, first on their own and now through Dunnes Stores but it's her work as a changemaker that had me ask her to come on the podcast. We talk about her work with Dress for Success, which as you'll hear, started as a way to help women return to the workforce with confidence but became so much more so rebranded and is now called Work Equal – they recently campaigned and got pay transparency passed into law in an attempt to close the gender pay gap.She also co founded Lift Ireland a social enterprise – which grew out of a desire to change our country for the better, not because better is needed but because better is possible. That sort of stuff just makes my soul sing – and you'd better believe they are rolling up their metaphorical sleeves and getting stuck in – starting with conversations – which as you know is right up my street.Sonya is passionate, determined and has a keen have a go attitude but she is well versed, educated – she recently received a first class honours in a masters of Business, Equality, Diversion and Inclusion – she is extremely articulate and this was a very thought provoking conversation. We talk about gender, societal gender norms, the current system which serves no one and how true diversity and inclusion lifts everybody.Sonya has this incredible mix of powerful leader but you also want to be her best mate, a seriously stylish superhero! Sonya has just been named in the top 100 Irish women who are changing the world in 2022. Sonya has dedicated much of her time and energy to helping Irish women (re)enter the workforce with confidence via WorkEqual, the non-profit she founded in 2011. Upon realising that to achieve sustainable, positive change, the right conversations have to happen at boardroom level, Sonya went on to co-found LIFT Ireland in 2018. LIFT is a social enterprise aimed at increasing the level of positive leadership in Ireland which has an impressively large and rapidly growing membership base. Hopefully we can use this fascinating and solution-based conversation as a lens to view the state of equality in the workplace as we celebrate this important day.

2" There are really big changes proposed for SME insolvency law and Declan de Lacy, Partner with accountants PKF, is all over them. It's 'only' taken a decade plus to get them towards the end line, but even now there are some big, big issues - not all good news for insolvent SMEs. Declan says we won't see the real devastation wrought by Covid until the middle of next year at the earliest, but that's when the doo-doo will hit the proverbial. If you're in business you HAVE TO listen to what you, or a colleagues in business, may be facing. Declan's 'hire in a heartbeat'? Well the true entrepreneur creates it. Niamh Byrne is boss at Gorey, Wexford boutique Ruby Red. But since Covid she's gone totally virtual and wow! sales have MORE THAN DOUBLED! From her Gorey HQ she's selling to Australia, North America and, of course, the UK. But by July she'll also be a tech entrepreneur, with her own BuyerPix.com software - unique to the world. That's why we have scoured the planet for someone who might actually know what the future looks like, and we found him. But, what does that mean for the fashion industry? Will we be seeing models walking down the runway in leggings and fluffy socks at the next fashion week? Or will designers provide us with something new and exciting. Sonya Lennon is a creative director, broadcaster and one half of Irish brand 'Lennon Courtney'. Sonya explained to Dermot and Dave how the industry will have changed because of Covid. Please note: this episode was recorded before the Covid 19 emergency.Welcome to the 80th (!!!) episode of The 80% - wowee!I am so pleased that my guest for this special episode was writer and editor Ciara Elliot. I spoke to Ciara a couple of months ago on Zoom, before any of us knew how often we'd be using it in the future. For that reason, the audio quality is a bit different this week. The 80% will be going into hibernation now for six weeks or so. This series was cut short due to the Coronavirus emergency but I'll be back with more excellent guests after some rest. If there's anyone terrific you think I should talk to, email 80percentpodcast@gmail.com. I'm open to ideas! In the meantime, in case you miss my tones, I can also be heard on Lennon Courtney Left Alone, a podcast I produce with Brendan Courtney and Sonya Lennon. It's great - like eavesdropping on two pals. Listen in all the usual places including here. But back to my guest!Ciara started her career working on the very cool Interview magazine in New York City where she worked alongside Ellen von Unworth and Bruce Weber. I loved this chat with Ciara because she has done so much and it's always great to hear from someone who has worked hard at her career for so long and still has so much enthusiasm to create.FOLLOW THE LEADER:If you enjoy the podcast and want to support it (me), look for 'ESTHERTWONAMES' on Patreon.
