Nearly two-thirds of the US blames Trump for rising prices. While sporting what was surely a full diaper, Shitler fired the head of labor statistics. The boot lickers of the FBI redacted the name of our diddler POTUS from the Epstein files. Human cosplayer Todd Blanche struck a deal with child rapist Ghislaine Maxwell sending the molester of children to a country club prison. The fascists of TESLA were ordered by a court to pay 329 million for a deadly accident. Wee televangelist Kenneth Copeland summoned angels to defend the rapist-in-chief. An anti-choice mouth- breather is cool with a civil war over abortion. Just over half of our country believes in evolution.

A new study from Philip Morris International reveals that widespread misconceptions about nicotine are undermining tobacco harm reduction in clinical care. Nearly two-thirds of U.S. healthcare professionals, including primary care doctors, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants, mistakenly believe that nicotine causes cancer. In this episode of RegWatch, filmed on location at the 2025 Global Forum on Nicotine in Warsaw, we unpack the findings with Dr. Pritika Kumar, U.S. Director of Scientific Engagement at Philip Morris International. We explore why these misconceptions persist, how they impact patient counseling, and what role the FDA could play in helping healthcare providers better understand the continuum of risk across nicotine products. Dr. Kumar also discusses the science behind PMI's successful application for a Modified Risk Tobacco Product order for General Snus and IQOS, and what that says about the quality of industry-funded research. National Broadband Ireland (NBI), the company responsible for delivering the Government's National Broadband Plan (NBP), has announced that two-thirds of homes, farms and businesses in the rollout area can now connect to high-speed broadband. There are now 367,154 premises that have been passed with NBI fibre (out of the 564,000 currently included in the NBP Intervention Area). This follows a decision earlier this year to bring forward the connection timeline for 65,000 homes, farms and businesses, ensuring faster access to fibre broadband for thousands of families and communities across rural Ireland. When a premises is passed, an order can be placed to connect to high-speed fibre broadband on the NBI Network. People living and working in rural Ireland can enter their Eircode on the NBI website, www.nbi.ie, to see if their home or business is included in the rollout and how to get connected. With more than 50 broadband providers actively selling on NBI's open-access network, rural communities now have access to the same level of competition and choice as those in urban areas. Customers can select from a wide range of internet providers, with competitive pricing and bundled packages available nationwide. The rollout is already delivering meaningful impact with 129,079 premises already connected. Take-up rates now average 35% and continue to climb, approaching 60% in areas where the network has been live the longest such as the rural areas near Athlone, Castlebar and Emyvale. Fibre broadband is also live on ten offshore islands, including Hare Island, Collanmore Island and Rutland Island, with build works significantly completed on others, including Achill Island, where people can now order connectivity on the NBI Network. Independent research has highlighted early social and economic benefits, such as improved quality of life, increased productivity for rural businesses, and enhanced access to services, showing the transformative potential of the NBP as it nears completion. Minister for Culture, Communications and Sport, Patrick O'Donovan, T.D., said: "This is a major milestone for the National Broadband Plan and for rural Ireland. Two-thirds of homes, farms and businesses in the rollout area can now access world-class connectivity - a transformative step for communities, businesses and families across the country. Reliable high-speed broadband is no longer a luxury; it is a necessity, and I am proud of the Government's ongoing commitment to ensuring every home, no matter how remote, is given the opportunity to thrive in a connected world." Peter Hendrick, Chief Executive Officer, National Broadband Ireland, said: "We are proud to have passed two-thirds of the premises in the State intervention area, bringing us significantly closer to our goal of delivering high-speed fibre broadband to every home, farm and business in the rollout area. The strong and growing take-up rate reflects the demand for reliable connectivity in rural Ireland and the trust people are placing in the NBI network. With over 50 retail providers offering services on our open-access network, end users have real choice and access to world-leading speeds." Progress update as of 23.05.2025: The number of premises passed, and which can connect to NBI's fibre network, is 367,154. 129,079 premises are already connected. The average take-rate is 35%. Take-up is approaching 60% where services have been available for longer. 95% of the project (537,286 premises) has moved to or through construction. 100% of premises have been surveyed. Take-up rates are approaching 60% in the Deployment Areas that were released first. 955 Broadband Connection Points (BCPs) have been installed and are live with 672 of these in schools. A high-speed broadband connection through NBI is available for order on 10 of the 27 islands included in the rollout. The remaining 17 islands are in various stages of survey and design works. Don and Tom take aim at America's favorite financial myths—starting with the widespread belief that real estate and gold are the best long-term investments. They present nearly 100 years of historical data to show why stocks have far outpaced both. Callers bring smart questions about guaranteed annuities, where to park surplus cash, and the VT vs. VTI+VXUS tax argument. In the wake of the pandemic, the City of Fort Bragg adopted a zero-tolerance policy toward homeless encampments — independent of the recent Grants Pass Supreme Court decision. Counter-intuitively, this has led to far fewer arrests of homeless residents. Today, arrests of homeless residents have fallen from 54% of all arrests to less than 18% of all arrests. The secret? The small Care Response Unit embedded in the police department.
Minnesota cannabis regulators say they plan to hold a lottery sometime in the next two weeks to determine who will get to open up the state's first legal marijuana businesses. But the Office of Cannabis Management is facing pushback this week after it rejected more than 1,100 applicants it deemed ineligible. That's around two-thirds of those who applied. MPR News correspondent Matt Sepic has been following this and joins MPR News host Nina Moini to talk about it.
We love God the Father who created us and God the Son who redeemed us, but what about the Holy Spirit? We hear His name a lot, but who is He? What exactly does He do? What does He want from us? The Holy Spirit is the "quiet One," active in the life of believers but sometimes not acknowledged as being vital. Oswald Chambers noted, "The Holy Spirit cannot be located as a guest in a house. He invades everything!" Today, we consider Him and His role in our lives.

Earlier this year, Larry Fink, BlackRock's Chairman and CEO, talked about the retirement crisis and the difficulty that individuals face when planning for their financial future. Saving for retirement can be challenging due to various factors such as rising living costs, longer life expectancies, and the decline of traditional pension plans. Continuing the conversation, Oscar is joined by Lacy Garcia, CEO and Founder of Willow, a wealth technology firm and Katie Cullen, Head of Business Consulting at BlackRock. Lacy leads her firm with a powerful mission to help next generation investors, most notably women and underrepresented groups, to achieve financial security. Lacy will discuss her motivations for starting Willow, the challenges she faced along the way, and her advice for budding entrepreneurs. Katie covers the current retirement landscape, how that pertains to diverse communities, and some practical considerations for anyone looking to plan their own financial future.Sources: ‘Read on Retirement', BlackRock 2024, BlackRock People and Money report, 2020, Fidelity Institutional Insights ‘Meeting The Moment', December 2021; Two-Thirds of Americans Have Decreased Spending Due To Economy, Wells Fargo, Newsroom, February 2024This content is for informational purposes only and is not an offer or a solicitation. To the landscape designer Edwina von Gal, gardening is much more than just seeding, planting, weeding, and watering; it's her life calling. Since starting her namesake firm in 1984 in East Hampton, on New York's Long Island, she has worked with, for, and/or alongside the likes of Calvin Klein, Larry Gagosian, Frank Gehry, Maya Lin, Annabelle Selldorf, Richard Serra, and Cindy Sherman, creating gardens that center on native species and engage in other nature-based land-care solutions. In 2008, von Gal founded the Azuero Earth Project in Panama to promote chemical-free reforestation with native trees on the Azuero Peninsula. Stemming out of this initiative, in 2013, she then founded the Perfect Earth Project to promote chemical-free, non-agricultural land management in the U.S. Her most recent effort, Two Thirds for the Birds, is a call-to-action to plant more native plants and eliminate pesticides, thus creating a greater food supply for birds. On the episode, she discusses the meditative qualities of gardening; reframing landscaping as “land care”; and why she sees herself not as a steward of land, but rather as a collaborator with it.Special thanks to our Season 9 presenting sponsor, L'École, School of Jewelry Arts.Show notes:Edwina von Gal[15:32] William Cronon[15:32] Changes in the Land[15:32] Tiokasin Ghosthorse[24:04] Carl Sagan[24:04] The Demon-Haunted World[26:07] Perfect Earth Project[40:37] Two Thirds for the Birds[42:41] John Fitzpatrick[42:41] Cornell Lab of Ornithology[42:41] Merlin Bird ID[47:01] Garden Club of America[50:21] Diana Vreeland[51:09] Peter Sharp[51:09] Channel Gardens at Rockefeller Center[54:46] Frank Gehry[54:46] Biomuseo[54:46] Bruce Mau[56:32] Azuero Earth Project[1:00:37] Doug Tallamy[1:02:01] Nature's Best Hope[1:05:12] The High Line[1:05:12] Brooklyn Bridge Park[1:05:12] The Battery Conservancy[1:05:12] Brooklyn Museum

The addiction crisis in America refers to the widespread and ongoing issue of substance abuse, particularly related to drugs and alcohol, that has had significant social, economic, and public health implications. The crisis has evolved over decades and encompasses several key aspects:Opioid Epidemic: One of the most prominent facets of the crisis is the opioid epidemic. It began in the late 1990s with the over-prescription of opioid painkillers such as OxyContin. This led to a surge in opioid misuse, dependence, and overdose deaths. Many individuals transitioned from prescription opioids to illicit opioids like heroin and later to synthetic opioids like fentanyl, which is extremely potent and contributes to a high number of overdose fatalities.Rise in Overdose Deaths: The addiction crisis has resulted in a staggering number of overdose deaths, primarily driven by opioids. Overdoses have become a leading cause of accidental death in the United States. The crisis has affected individuals across all age groups and socioeconomic backgrounds.Impact on Families and Communities: Addiction has strained families and communities, leading to broken relationships, loss of productivity, increased crime rates, and strain on social services. Children often suffer as a result of parental addiction, leading to increased rates of foster care placements and long-term psychological impacts.Mental Health Connection: Substance abuse often coexists with mental health disorders, creating a complex cycle of self-medication and exacerbating both conditions. Depression, anxiety, and trauma frequently contribute to the development and persistence of addiction.Stigma and Barriers to Treatment: Despite efforts to destigmatize addiction, negative perceptions persist, hindering individuals from seeking help. Limited access to effective treatment, including mental health services and medication-assisted treatment for opioid addiction, has also been a significant challenge.Response and Interventions: In response to the crisis, various measures have been taken, including expanded access to naloxone (a medication that can reverse opioid overdoses), improved prescription drug monitoring programs, and increased availability of addiction treatment and harm reduction services. Public health campaigns and educational initiatives have aimed to raise awareness about the risks of substance abuse.Legal and Policy Changes: Lawmakers and health agencies have introduced policy changes to address the crisis. On May 31st, Congressman Crenshaw voted to pass the Fiscal Responsibility Act, voting with more than 2/3 of the Republican conference to avoid a catastrophic debt limit default. Below is a statement from the Congressman on why he voted yes: "We vote based on realistic choices, not what we wish were true. Of course, I wish that Ronald Reagan was resurrected, and we had 60 votes in the Senate. Then we could enact massive reforms that truly put our spending on a reasonable path. But this isn't the reality we have now. The reality we have is a slim House majority while radical Democrats have the Senate and White House. Our leverage is limited. But even with that limited leverage, we forced Biden to give up on every single demand he had. He first wanted a clean debt ceiling increase without reforms. We said no. He then wanted tax increases. We said no. He wanted cuts to our military. We said no. In the final bill, Biden got nothing, and we got about half of what we wanted. Of course we wanted more, but again, our leverage was limited. Here are other facts to consider. Whether you like it or not, there has to be a debt ceiling increase. The economic consequences are catastrophic if you let the government default on its debt. Your 401k would crash as markets crash, the cost of borrowing would increase and make our debt worse, and recession would be imminent. Only third-world countries have allowed this to happen. Some might say, “well if we cut spending, we wouldn't have to increase the debt!” But this isn't really true, not unless you're fine with abolishing our Social Security and Medicare programs for our seniors, which account for nearly TWO-THIRDS of all spending. Yes, you read that right. Nearly TWO THIRDS. That means during these negotiations we are only arguing over 11% of all spending. Why? Because no one wants to touch Social Security, Medicare, Veterans benefits, or the military. That leaves all the other government agencies and programs which only account for 11% of spending. So, even if you abolished the entire federal government apart from the military, you WOULD STILL HAVE TO INCREASE THE DEBT LIMIT! So, given that there is no choice but to increase the debt ceiling, and given we only have control of the House, where does that leave us? With what options? The options are clear. They are (1) a Biden-preferred clean debt ceiling increase with no reforms, (2) a default and say goodbye to your 401k, or (3) a debt ceiling increase with all the reforms we got. Anyone claiming there is another option is being EXTREMELY dishonest with you. So what reforms did we get? About $1.5 TRILLION dollar decrease in spending over 10 years. Not bad. Environmental permitting reform which is HUGE for our energy sector. This means Biden can't wait 10 years to allow a permit for a new highway lane or gas pipeline. We finally forced the reforms we've been trying to do for YEARS. Billions of dollars in investment and jobs for Texas will be unleashed because of this. We also got some additional work requirements on Food Stamp programs and required some spending limitations (called “pay as you go” requirements) on any administrative action taken by the Biden Administration. We also cut all funding for new IRS agents this year. There's more, but those are the basics. The complaints from other Republicans aren't about what's in the bill, they're about what's not in the bill. But this is faulty logic. I can ALWAYS vote against something because it doesn't have something I want. And it's true, I can come up with a MILLION things this bill doesn't have. No, it doesn't fix our border, nor does it cure cancer, nor does it give me a new eye. But these are ridiculous excuses not to vote for a bill. Some Republicans will nitpick each of those wins and say they're not enough. Well, I agree! They're not enough! But that's not that question. The QUESTION is (1) was this the best we could get? And (2) is it better than the alternatives, which is a clean debt ceiling increase or a default? The answers to both questions are very clearly YES. Many Members of Congress are afraid to take tough votes even when they know it's the right thing to do. I'm not. Never have been. I could EASILY have taken the easy way out and voted “no,” and kept my voters in the dark about the truth. No one would write to me to complain about a “no” vote. But I won't do that. I can't help but tell you the truth. And the truth is that this bill was the best case scenario given the political reality we live in. There is no evidence from anyone that we could have negotiated a better outcome. None. Therefore, I had to vote yes."
