Ep #273: Equal Pay Day 2025: How Powerful Women Negotiate Their Pay (And Win)You're doing incredible work. You're hitting it out of the park. Your company says they value you - but your paycheck tells a different story. Or maybe you've been telling yourself that the money doesn't matter that much… as long as you're not traveling all the time, or working exhausting hours, or drowning in stress. But deep down, you know better. You do care about the money. And you know you deserve it. In honor of Equal Pay Day 2025, I'm cutting through the noise and giving you two things to help you get the pay you already deserve: 1. Simple, doable strategies to negotiate for - and get - a higher salary, and 2. The mindset shift you need to become the kind of leader who commands both money and influence, without working harder or burning yourself out. In this episode of Women Changing Leadership with Stacy Mayer, I'll walk you through real-life examples from women I've coached to double their salaries, land C-suite roles, and finally feel valued for the brilliant, badass leaders they already are. Plus, I'll show you exactly how to advocate for yourself with simple, direct asks, how to build influence across your org while gunning for a promotion, and why having both money and a career you love isn't just possible - it's your birthright.Unlock the missing piece in your leadership development. Women still earn just 84 cents for every dollar men make, and while 70% of women now negotiate their salaries, the remaining 30% contribute to the persistent pay gap. It's time for real talk about money, confidence, and financial independence—and this episode delivers exactly that.Takeaways:

In Illinois, March 25, 2025, is designated as Equal Pay Day to highlight ongoing wage disparities, as stated by State Senator Celina Villanueva. Despite the Equal Pay Act of 1963, the pay gap persists, with women earning significantly less than men. Senate Resolution 158 emphasizes the disparities for various groups: Asian American women reach parity on April 7th to bridge the gap, Black women until July 10th, and Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander women until Aug. 28th. Latinas must work until Oct. 8th, Disabled women until Oct. 23rd, and Native women until Nov. 18th. Moms face a significant pay gap as well, with their Equal Pay Day falling on May 6th, and LGBTQIA+ individuals must work until June 17th. The resolution encourages public awareness and action to address these inequalities. Villanueva stresses the importance of closing the wage gap for economic justice and equity in Illinois.

Anlegen to go! As a small business owner or consultant, creating consistent marketing content can feel like yet another task on your already long to-do list. That's why I invited Sally Loftus, an expert in human resources and organizational improvement, to share her practical approach to using themes to simplify content creation. By organizing her marketing around key topics tied to her work, she developed a system that keeps her messaging clear and aligned with her audience's needs throughout the year.  Whether you're a one-person operation or managing a team, her tips are easy to adapt and implement. Key Points from the Conversation: Use Themes to Anchor Your Marketing: Sally structures her marketing around a few central themes tied to her expertise. This helps her create consistent, targeted content throughout the year that speaks to her audience's evolving needs. Adapt to Timing and Trends: By aligning her themes with seasonal shifts and key industry dates, Sally ensures her content stays relevant and timely, such as focusing on pay equity during Equal Pay Day or lighter topics during summer months. Repurpose and Recycle Content: Long-form pieces, like blogs or newsletters, serve as a foundation. Sally breaks them into bite-sized content for social media, email, and other platforms, maximizing visibility without constantly reinventing the wheel. Tailor Content for Each Platform: Recognizing different audience preferences, Sally adapts her content for platforms like LinkedIn (professional tone), Instagram (personal and visual), and YouTube (a mix of short and long videos). Engagement Fuels Visibility: Sally emphasizes the importance of being active on social media—commenting, sharing, and reacting—to boost her content's reach. Regular updates to older content with new insights also help maintain its relevance. Actionable Takeaways: Identify 2–3 core themes that align with your expertise and your audience's interests. Use these themes to guide your content planning for the year. Repurpose long-form content into smaller pieces to save time and reach audiences on different platforms. Align your marketing efforts with seasonal trends and industry milestones for maximum relevance. Engage with your audience by responding to comments and staying active on your chosen platforms—it's not just about posting but participating. Keep a mix of evergreen and timely content in your arsenal, ensuring a balance between enduring value and immediate impact. With thoughtful planning and a touch of creativity, your marketing can feel less like juggling torches and more like conducting a symphony. About Sally Sally Loftis, a consultant specializing in human resources, organization improvement, and social change, has made significant contributions in the realm of pay equity. On the radio show this week, we discuss the devastation due to the hurricane in North Carolina and other states, how we can lend a hand – and also how we can start addressing in a bigger, better, bolder way, the climate change that people are experiencing across the globe; next we dive into taxes, the positive impact of taxes when we invest in working families, and the the negative impact of trickle-down economics like the Trump Tax Scam; then we mark Latina Equal Pay Day and learn why it's a day to activate; and after that we hear about the recent VP debate and the importance where candidates stand on the issues, and of course, the importance of voting!

Can You Actually Have It All In A Stepfamily? Today I'm sharing an interview I did for this year's Stepmom Summit because it's the kind of story that we don't get to hear enough of as stepmoms: a stepmom and mom who not only get along, but are real-life friends, work together, and have made co-parenting virtually seamless for their kids. I'm talking with Emmy Award-winning journalist Catt Sadler and Digital Dept. CEO Sarah Boyd. These women are each superstars professionally, and both vowed to put the kids in the stepfamily first. It's a wonderful story of how the dynamics can come together in a loving and positive way.  About Catt: Catt Sadler is a three time-Emmy winning journalist, renowned for her work on E! Entertainment, where she spent more than a decade contributing to E! News, E! News Weekend, Daily Pop, Live From E! and hosting various network specials. She's also been a fixture on the red carpet covering high-caliber events and interviewing celebrities during awards season. She has been co-host of the Vanity Fair Oscars Party show for the last several years. Today, she is the host and EP of her weekly podcast: CATT SADLER Now. Catt has appeared on The View, The Talk, The Tamron Hall Show, and many other programs. After choosing to leave E! over a wage gap issue and receiving an outpouring of support, Catt became a prominent voice for the equal pay movement. She has spent much of her time contributing to the cause by taking part in the LA Women's March, speaking at the Equal Pay Day rally at City Hall in New York, and starring in LUNA Bar's Equal Pay Day campaign. Catt was also selected for the NYDJ Denim campaign highlighting women leading change. She starred in the SECRET deodorant “I'd Rather Get Paid” initiative and MM.Le.Fleur's “What Are You Made Of?” fashion campaign. In 2021 she was featured with a diverse group of women in Summersalt's swimwear campaign celebrating an eclectic group of confident and successful women who love their bodies – in all forms, at any age. Championing women has always been her passion. About Sarah: Sarah Boyd is the co-CEO of The Digital Dept., which represents the most sought-after celebrity influencers. Her current/past clients roster includes Alessandra Ambrosio, Jamie Chung, Olivia Culpo, Julianne Hough, Lauren Bushnell Lane, Jana Kramer, and many more who look to Sarah to help them capitalize on their influential status in the entertainment industry to make their mark in the influencer world. Sarah started her career in Fashion PR and in 2012, she decided to channel her expert industry know-how, her extensive list of contacts, and relationships into starting her own business, SIMPLY, a collective with one goal in mind: connecting. The SIMPLY ‘Do What You Love' event is an annual Fashion and Beauty Conference in cities such as LA, NY, Chicago, and Dubai. Since 2012, SIMPLY has hosted tens of thousands of attendees. Sarah has secured partnerships with prestigious brands like CITI, Topshop, Barney's NY and many more. She's been featured in Marie Claire, People Style Watch, Fox News, E!, LA Business Journal, to name a few. She was named a “Female Founder to Watch” by Forbes and is now a Forbes Fashion and Beauty contributor. In 2017, Sarah completed a successful acquisition for SIMPLY with Socialyte (under the NYLON LLC parent company) and Sarah held the position of President of Socialyte. In 2018, Sarah co-founded the Moms + Babes Box with partner Jana Kramer which is a quarterly subscription box filled with 6+ full sized products for moms and their babes. In 2020, Sarah and Jana sold the business. In 2022, Socialyte was acquired by Dolphin Entertainment, and in 2023, Socialyte and Be Social merged to become The Digital Dept. where Sarah was installed as co-CEO. Ep 435: The True Cost of Motherhood in America

Today is Mom's Equal Pay Day so we're talking about the reality of motherhood in America today, no not the reality we see on social media where momfluencers make pregnancy to childbirth, to raising multiple kids seem like a breeze…we're talking about what it's really like to have kids in a country that doesn't make it easy for us.  Jessica Grose, author of, “Screaming on the Inside: The Unsustainability of American Motherhood,” said she did everything right before she had kids, she was married, had a successful, thriving career, and was debt-free, but she still wasn't ready for the reality of motherhood, and doesn't think any of us are. We go over what every woman should do before welcoming a new addition to set themselves up for success. Takeaways: Having children in America can have negative financial and career implications. Cultural norms around motherhood in the United States are contradictory and place unrealistic expectations on mothers. Governmental solutions such as paid family leave and affordable childcare are needed to support working parents. Parents should support each other and ask for help when needed, and society should be more understanding and less judgmental of parents in public spaces. Moms' Equal Pay Day is not a day to celebrate, it's a day to activate!  It's the day in 2024 that moms have to work until in order to earn what white dads earned in 2023 – which means moms have to work more than 18 months to earn what dads earned in 12 months.  Not okay!  So Moms Equal Pay Day is the day we use to shed light on the persistent wage gap experienced by mothers in the workplace. On average moms earn just 63 cents for every dollar paid to White, non-Hispanic dads. Of course, the averages alone don't tell the whole story because, due to structural racism, moms of color face much larger wage gaps when compared separately. Not okay! It doesn't have to be this way.  Solutions are possible!!  And we talk about solutions and more on this radio program!!   *Special guests include: Beverly Neufeld, PowHer New York, @PowHerNY; Felicia Burnett, MomsRising, @MomsRising; Martha Susana Jaimes, Institute for Women's Policy Research, @iwpresearch; Taylor Austin, MomsRising, @MomsRising

According to the Institute for Women's Policy Research, while white women earn 82 cents for every dollar earned by a white man, Black women earn just 64 cents. Dasha Kennedy says that for Black women specifically, there are a myriad of reasons for that.  Dasha Kennedy is the founder of the Broke Black Girl, where she shares her personal journey of overcoming financial struggles and specific advice for Black women. This Black Women's Equal Pay Day, she joins us to talk about how she's pushing back against the gender wage gap and her favorite ways to save money in 2024. Have a question for us? Black women need specially tailored financial advice due to their unique experiences as the intersection of race and gender. Strategies for overcoming debt include spending intentionally, setting spending limits, and prioritizing savings. Collecting experiences can be more fulfilling than collecting material possessions. Taking small steps and breaking down financial goals into manageable increments can lead to long-term progress. Join the HerMoney community!
