Offering an exploration of our past to propel us forward with conviction and hope, We Shall Someday examines how we continue the fight for freedom and justice. The show begins in 1961 when Julius makes the decision to join the Freedom Rides. The second act follows his daughter, Ruby, as she wrestles with how to respond when Jay, her teen son, is brutally attacked by the police. The third and final act continues in 1992, on the heels of the Rodney King verdict, with Jay, as he weighs his choice to join the movement. With searing vocals and deeply personal truths, We Shall Someday is a galvanizing and moving new work about the family bonds that hold us together and the courage, resolve, and direction needed to keep moving forward.

You'll also be invited into a gentle visualisation for peace, hope, and healing - for yourself, for your community, and for humanity. This episode is for you if you've been feeling on edge, doom scrolling, emotionally flooded, or quietly questioning what kind of future we're creating. It's a reminder that while we can't control everything, we can choose how we respond. And when enough of us return to our hearts, that choice becomes powerful.

Beneath the imposing surface of his tattoo-covered frame and “Monster” alter-ego, seemingly forged through chaos and back-alley brawls, Ulysses Diaz is a man who has been shaped by failures and redemptions much more than rage. If you judged Diaz solely by his intimidating appearance and troubled past, you'd miss the journey of a survivalist who wrote his own blueprint for discipline and an unforeseen ascent in combat sports. Diaz laced up the gloves—not with dreams of belts or boxing fame, but simply as a way to stay in shape and clear his head. Needless to say, what started as a workout quickly became the best decision of his life. With coaches who didn't just train him but always checked in, held him accountable, and understood the roads he had traveled, the gym became his anchor. Uplifted by his support system and a renewed purpose, Diaz got back in the ring, after once dabbling as an amateur earlier in life, and managed to revolutionize his life through fighting.Since the moment he embarked on a professional combat sports journey in 2017, Diaz knew he'd found his second chance. Not a way out, nor some golden ticket to stardom. Instead, it was the way forward. Diaz aggressively chased any and all opportunities across boxing and MMA, also later jumping at the opportunity to take the gloves back off and make a name for himself through the growing interest of bare-knuckle promotions like BKFC and BKB. Even recently, Diaz stepped into a custom-rules bout with “Platinum” Mike Perry's Dirty Boxing, always looking for the next challenge and never one to shy away from some of the most brutal stipulations left in the sanctioned world of combat.Ulysses is also an actor who has played key roles in hit movies like Den Of Thieves, The Weapon, and Never Too Late. He is very close friends with the Super Star Artist 'Pitbull' aka Mr World Wide and was blessed to travel the world and visit many countries, while working as his personal security. But nothing has meant more to Uly than his youngest son, Junior. Even though Uly has faced some of the toughest challenges any man can experience, his most difficult battle was finding out his son was diagnosed with cancer via a bone disease. This podcast was filled with amazing stories of overcoming hardships, comical tales of travel adventures, tear jerking admissions of a fathers deepest fears, and so much more. What does it take to bet everything on a dream? To live out of a van before it was fashionable, to commit to hard lines with no guarantee of success, and to walk away from risk when the stakes are too high? For Canadian climber Sonnie Trotter, it has always come down to conviction. From iconic ascents like Cobra Crack and The Path to bold multi-pitch routes on El Capitan, Sonnie has built a career — and a life — around the power of desire and the art of going all in.In this episode, Sonnie opens up about:The moment on Mount Stephen with Tommy Caldwell when he chose family over risk — and why that decision shaped his climbing life. What it means to reverse-engineer objectives, breaking down the impossible into repeatable steps that anyone can apply to sport, career, or life. The reality of van life with young kids — the chaos, the beauty, and the lessons in resilience. Why desire matters more than talent in chasing audacious goals. How sleep, recovery, and health now stand as his most important climbing priorities. This is not just a climbing story. It's a conversation about awe, identity, and how to keep your fire alive — whether you're chasing 5.14 cracks or simply trying to stay true to your path in midlife.Stay to the end: Sonnie shares his philosophy on legacy, why life is shorter than we think (in the most liberating sense), and how to pursue what matters with urgency and love.Sonnie's InstagramSonnie's book - Uplifted! ---

However, some say the future of Social Security is uncertain. “Closer Look” host Rose Scott talks with Alice Bennett, the advocacy manager for AARP Georgia. Bennett addressed myths about the Social Security program, explained how the program is funded and talked about the importance of keeping the program protected. Plus, this week, several foundations are committing nearly $37 million to provide immediate relief to public media stations at the risk of closure. This all comes after Congress recently voted and approved President Donald Trump’s request to end federal funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB). This move triggered the dismantling of CPB and cut $1.1 billion earmarked for public media. PBS and NPR and NPR affiliate stations across the country, including WABE, are trying to navigate how to continue their work despite the cuts. Rose talks with Michel Martin, a veteran and award-winning journalist and host of NPR's “Morning Edition.” Martin reflects on the values of NPR and its resilience, the importance of reporting on community-based and national news, as well as keeping audiences informed, connected and uplifted.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

When Sonnie Trotter was a teenager, he discovered a portal into another world. Entering the local climbing gym he found challenge, adventure and passion. By sixteen, he was all in, and he made it up his first 5.14 within just a few years.  The climbing seemed to come naturally, but figuring out how to make a living doing it took a lot more time—and some trial and error. Early sponsorships covered gas money for traveling to competitions, but it took him a decade to start generating real income as an athlete. He knew that his happiness was directly connected to climbing and so he did whatever he could to do it as much as he could.  Looking back at the last thirty years of climbing, Trotter says he's most proud of his willingness to listen to himself and commit to his passion. He recently published "Uplifted," a memoir chronicling those many years of climbing, his role as a father and how he manages to tie it all together.  In this conversation, we talk about Trotter's evolution as an athlete, where he finds freedom and why he believes climbing should be fun—even when it's not easy. How Positive Leadership Transforms Workplace Culture and Elevates Customer Experience  Shep interviews Ryan Minton, Best-Selling Author and Keynote Speaker. He talks about his new book, Uplifted and shares insights from his experience in hospitality, including the impact of employee engagement, appreciation, and empowerment in creating uplifting work environments and better customer experiences.  This episode of Amazing Business Radio with Shep Hyken answers the following questions and more:    What practical benefits come from creating an uplifting workplace culture?  How does a hospitality mindset improve customer service across different industries?  What impact does leadership have on employee morale and customer experience?  How does positive leadership help reduce staff turnover in customer-facing roles?  In what ways does an employee's mood affect customer interactions?  Top Takeaways:    The hospitality mentality is not just for hotels and restaurants. It is valuable in every industry because it sets the bar for the customer experience standard. It teaches every employee to always show care, gratitude, and kindness no matter what industry they work in.  A heartfelt "thanks for coming in today" can make a real difference in someone's mood and attitude. It is a simple yet powerful statement that leaders can say to make their employees know that they matter. When employees feel appreciated, they're more likely to enjoy coming to work and give their best. It creates a workplace where people want to come, stay, and grow.  Every employee becomes the face of your brand the moment they interact with your customers. When they are not happy at their jobs, customers feel it. High turnover and unhappiness can hurt customer satisfaction, so making sure that employees are engaged, equipped, and fulfilled helps create positive customer experiences.   Strict policies can sometimes get in the way of the human aspect of customer service. When employees are trusted to handle situations as they see fit, they feel empowered to do their jobs. Employees need to grow through training and be equipped with the right tools so that they can use policies as guidelines while exercising common sense to meet each customer's unique needs.   Happy employees lead to happy customers, and happy customers come back. Invest in people through appreciation, empowerment, and uplifting leadership.  Loyalty programs and perks can encourage repeat business, but truly memorable companies don't rely on them alone. Being helpful, friendly, and uplifting is the best loyalty program you can offer. When people feel good about you, they'll keep coming back, with or without loyalty programs.  Plus, Ryan shares the "balloon effect" and how it can elevate customer and employee experiences. Tune in!  Quote:   "Good old-fashioned customer service is just good old-fashioned hospitality. So many brands look to the hotel industry because it has become the standard for customer service."     About:    Ryan Minton is a Best-Selling Author and Keynote Speaker with over 20 years of experience leading world-class hospitality brands. He is the author of Thanks for Coming in Today: Creating a Culture Where Employees Thrive & Customer Service is Alive. His upcoming book Uplifted! Sonnie Trotter is a world-renowned rock climber, father, husband, writer, and the author of the new book "Uplifted: The Evolution of a Climbing Life." For the past three decades, Sonnie has built a career as one of the most accomplished climbers of his generation— pushing standards, putting up first ascents, and bringing a sense of creativity, humility, and grit to every project he tackles. His new book is part memoir, part meditation on movement and meaning, and it's one of the most thoughtful and grounded climbing books I've read in a long time. In this wide-ranging conversation, Sonnie and I talk about the unexpected ways writing has shaped his life, how his approach to climbing has evolved over the years, and what it's been like to move from living out of a van to raising a family in the mountains of Canada. We also discuss how he's stayed grounded throughout his career, his relationship with sponsors like Patagonia, and why gratitude— not rage or ego— has been the driving force behind his decades of commitment to climbing. Sonnie also opens up about how parenting has shifted his perspective on adventure, freedom, and ambition—and how he and his wife are raising their kids in a way that emphasizes curiosity, effort, and joy. Whether you're a climber, a writer, a parent, or just someone trying to live a meaningful life, there's a ton of wisdom in this one.
