Today's guest is Ken Rutkowski. Ken is a business talk radio personality, innovative strategist, international speaker, and the founder of Metal International. Ken has done government consultation for thirteen different countries and collaborations with Google, Yahoo, Microsoft, Surf Air, Motorola, AT&T, and numerous others. [16:10] - Remove time-sensitivity. [18:12] - The pyramid of friends and relationships is important to keep in mind when determining the legitimacy of someone's online persona. [32:14] - Ken and Chris have a mutual friend and he demonstrates how he used social engineering to vet the legitimacy of Chris's relationship with him. [34:01] - Ken's online community began as an in-person community. He curates who his members are. [36:49] - What are the rules of Ken's community? Podcast: The Marketing Book Podcast (LS 57 · TOP 0.5% what is this?)Episode: 219 Subscribed by Tien TzuoPub date: 2019-03-22Subscribed: Why the Subscription Model Will Be Your Company's Future - and What to Do About It by Tien Tzuo Click here to view the show notes! https://www.salesartillery.com/marketing-book-podcast/subscribed-tien-tzuo Subscription companies are growing nine times faster than the S&P 500. Why? Because unlike product companies, subscription companies know their customers. A happy subscriber base is the ultimate economic moat. Today's consumers prefer the advantages of access over the hassles of maintenance, from transportation (Uber, Surf Air), to clothing (Stitch Fix, Eleven James), to razor blades and makeup (Dollar Shave Club, Birchbox). Companies are similarly demanding easier, long-term solutions, trading their server rooms for cloud storage solutions like Box. Simply put, the world is shifting from products to services. But how do you turn customers into subscribers? As the CEO of the world's largest subscription management platform, Tien Tzuo has helped hundreds of companies transition from relying on individual sales to building customer-centric, recurring-revenue businesses. His core message in Subscribed is simple: Ready or not, excited or terrified, you need to adapt to the Subscription Economy -- or risk being left behind. Tzuo shows how to use subscriptions to build lucrative, ongoing one-on-one relationships with your customers. This may require reinventing substantial parts of your company, from your accounting practices to your entire IT architecture, but the payoff can be enormous. Just look at the case studies: * Adobe transitions from selling enterprise software licenses to offering cloud-based solutions for a flat monthly fee, and quadruples its valuation. * Fender evolves from selling guitars one at a time to creating lifelong musicians by teaching beginners to play, and keeping them inspired for life. * Caterpillar uses subscriptions to help solve problems -- it's not about how many tractors you can rent, but how much dirt you need to move. In Subscribed, you'll learn how these companies made the shift, and how you can transform your own product into a valuable service with a practical, step-by-step framework. Find out how how you can prepare and prosper now, rather than trying to catch up later. The podcast and artwork embedded on this page are from Douglas Burdett, which is the property of its owner and not affiliated with or endorsed by Listen Notes, Inc.
Wade Eyerly talks about his upbringing and how moving around actually helped him learn how to “start” in any environment. Wade also shares his thoughts on what makes a good parent, and why intention is necessary in relationships. Wade talks about his ethos behind hiring and what makes a good candidate - especially in the start up phase. Wade also shares details behind some of his ventures like Surf Air and Degree Insurance, and talks about how he started out. Highlighted Quote “Figure it Out” When I hire, I don't need the world's greatest accountant, I need an average accountant… anyone who can do the job… that's all I'm looking for from a competency standpoint. So if you come in and you've been an accountant for 10 years, you can do the job. The question is, can you get it done and figure it out? That makes you the person that can fit our team versus not. In startups that's incredibly important and it's not as important in big companies. there's nothing wrong going to Bank of America it is a fine career choice… but in your as you sit in your desk, there is someone over your shoulder, who was in that just 18 months ago, so you can turn around and say “what do I do now?” and they'll have an answer... at a startup, there is no one there. If you have to come to me and say “what do I do now?” I have to stop what I'm doing, pull my eyes off the horizon as the CEO, and figure out what you need to do… and I consider that your job.
No matter what industry you’re in, the one thing that can set you apart from your competitors is excellent customer experience, says Scott Craig Porter, founder, and CEO of San Diablo churros. To call Scott’s career eclectic would be an understatement. He’s worked in PR and as a nursing home administrator, founded a subscription airline, and now he’s selling churros. But his focus has always been making customers and staff happy and eager for more.During his stint turning around underperforming nursing homes, Scott discovered the key to creating a brand experience that turns customers into diehard supporters. And it’s actually pretty simple.“People want to be treated as humans,” Scott says. The way you do that is by delivering on small but meaningful details. “It's smiling, eye contact, calling people by their name. Treating people with respect.”Extra touches work too. “When a doctor would come to visit, we would have their favorite chocolate bar waiting for them,” he says. This extended to the staff. Scott believes that creating a company culture of respect, appreciation and a shared sense of mission is the foundation from which strong customer service grows.Scott took these lessons with him into his future businesses. When he started Surf Air, the first all-you-can-fly subscription airline, his onboarding meetings weren’t about paperwork and procedures. “We would spend two days focusing on why we are doing what we're doing and why it makes a difference in people's lives… Helping each member of our team feel empowered to create something truly extraordinary,” Scott says.Since 2016, he’s been applying that philosophy at San Diablo Churros.“We are just looking to deliver deep-fried happiness to people. We want to be a vehicle for happiness: It happens to be that we make churros.” Featured Entrepreneur

Wade is the former CEO and co-founder of Surf Air, the world's first all-you-can-fly subscription airline, and Dennis is an actuary and lawyer who served as the general counsel and a senior advisor to Governor Rauner in Illinois. Together they founded the startup in 2017, working to remove the risks of seeking higher education in America by guaranteeing students’ income for five years after they graduate. In this in-depth conversation, they describe how the current financing of education has created generational debt, with the average loan repayment lasting 21 years, consider how individuals from all backgrounds can make better decisions about their futures and aspire to the American Dream by understanding the economic impact of their degree, and explain how colleges will, in turn, see a return on their investment through increasing enrolment and retention rates.

Most of us hate flying. From delays to TSA lines to smaller and smaller seats on flights—flying is not what it used to be. Many of us enjoy the ease of using Uber on the streets but when it comes to the skies, the airlines—no matter how terrible they treat customers—appear disruption proof. Until now! Enter Surf Air, an All-You-Can-Fly private membership that provides business and leisure travelers with exclusive, hassle-free air travel. Today we talk airline industry disruption. Today on the Modern Customer Podcast we're joined by Surf Air CEO Jeff Potter who talks about the Surf Air customer experience.
