In the third episode of our “Pastoring Worship” series, Adam talks with Ted Kim about building a worship community that is fraternal rather than functional. They discuss logistics of creating culture and practicing mutual submission, and how to make the act of worship more humane by respecting people's humanity as we're calling them to serve. Ted also talks about laughter as a sign of health in a church community. This is an incredibly down-to-earth conversation that is full of profoundly practical ideas.    Ted Kim is the senior pastor of the Evanston Vineyard, having taken over the leadership from Steve Nicholson in early 2020, six days after the church shut down its in-person services due to Covid. He is passionate about the beauty of Jesus, spiritual formation, and building a church for Generation Z. It is also his life mission to bend the heart of the city of Chicago to God through the multiplication and releasing of young leaders.   Prior to arriving in Chicago, Ted was a worship pastor and songwriter. He spent the last decade at the Vineyard in Syracuse, NY. For some reason, God's intention is for Ted to be cold. Ted is the son of Korean immigrants. His mother is the daughter of a South Korean dignitary. His father escaped from North Korea during the war and would later go on to be an industrial engineer. They found each other on the other side of the world in bucolic Kentucky. Ted first attended and interned at the Evanston Vineyard in the 90s, while he was a student at the University of Chicago. Despite the  occasional polar vortex, he is delighted (and humbled) to return to Chicago and serve the church that formed him more than any other community in his life. Ted is married to Brittany, an Old Testament scholar. Together they have three children.     Show Notes:  The Ferment February 17, 2019  “Ted Kim – Worship Leader, Songwriter and Pastor – We All Need To Be Seen” https://bit.ly/3qbt8aq The Ferment March 31, 2019  “5 Books Every Worship Leader Should Read in 2019 with Ted Kim” https://bit.ly/3tr4WTL   The Ferment October 25, 2020  “Transcendence, Surprise and Creative Process – John Mark Mcmillan and Pastor Ted Kim” https://bit.ly/3waPjkY     Socials: Instagram @thefermentpodcast Twitter @fermentcast TikTok @vineyardworship

On this week’s episode, our host Michael Gatlin sits down with Ted Kim and Renée Cunningham from the Evanston Vineyard giving us a behind-the-scenes look at the active transition of senior leadership of this flagship Vineyard church from it’s founding pastor, Steve Nicholson, to the leadership of Ted Kim. This is a very practical and helpful episode not only for the churches in active leadership transition but every church digging into your “why” behind your “how”.    Ted Kim Ted Kim has been pastoring for over twenty years, first as a Worship Pastor and now as the Senior Associate Pastor of the Evanston Vineyard in Illinois where he is the hoped-for eventual successor to Steve Nicholson.  He has done ministry all over the United States and internationally in places like the United Kingdom, Africa, and the Middle East.  Ted oversaw worship regionally in the Northeast and is a published songwriter, most known for “Kyrie Eleison” and “Eden”.  He holds a Master of Divinity degree from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School and has been married for over 15 years with 3 children.   Renée Cunningham Renée Cunningham is pastor of the Neighborhood Campus of the Evanston Vineyard in Chicago, Illinois.  Renee planted the Neighborhood in 2014 out of a desire to worship alongside her neighbors.  Prior to church planting, Renee worked in elementary education and served with her husband as pastors at La Vina Las Condes in Santiago, Chile.  She holds an M.A. in Christian Spiritual Formation from North Park Theological Seminary and lives in Chicago with her husband Bruce and their three young children.

Blockchain scalability is one of the main barriers to adoption of this revolutionary new technology. Finance, supply chain, and e-commerce blockchain deployments often have peak throughputs that far exceed their baseline. For example, when tickets for a popular concert go on sale, the peak transaction throughput will result in unacceptable latency for the users. Samsung SDS Accelerator is a layer 2 scaling solution for Hyperledger Fabric that enables up to 10x transaction throughput during this burst of activity. Cindy Rethmeier is one of the pioneering women worship leaders and songwriters of the modern worship era. She wrote some of Vineyard's most well-known anthems (Exalt the Lord, I Bow Down) and served an integral role in children's worship, penning the songs I Want to be Like Jesus and Good News. Cindy spent 7 years in an Anglican Church writing musical settings for prayers and seasonal antiphons for the liturgy, and her most-recent song —  co-written with Vineyard pastor and worship leader Ted Kim — is Kyrie Eléison, a lament based on a prayer of petition used in ancient Christian liturgies translating as “Lord, have mercy.”    Cindy lives in Southern California with her husband of 38 years, Steve. She has 2 married children & 9 grandchildren who are the inspiration for her name songs & lighthearted, everyday-life songs. On this episode Cindy shares wisdom learned from her journey — from the early days of the Vineyard movement to present day — learning to own her own voice and see herself as God has shaped her to be.
