Recording live from Fuzzy's Taco Shop in Temple Terrace, co-hosts Collin Sherwin and Brock Bjorn are saying ahoy to National Margarita Day for Episode 5 of the 813area podcast! We happened upon North Tampa, but talk about other great places in South Tampa to get a delicious margarita, such as Bartaco, Green Lemon and the brand new Rocco's Tacos & Tequila Bar. The guys then talk about the various events happening this weekend like the 71st Annual Fiesta Day, Tampa's Last Saturday Bar Crawl with Party Bus, Cirque du Soleil's VOLTA and the podcast's favorite event Grown Up Night! Also, if you're in South Tampa, thought #GasparillaSZN was over, and want to test your New Year's Resolutions, enter or watch the Gasparilla Distance Classic! There is always something amazing to do in your area! Collin Sherwin also welcomes Melanie Griffin to the 813area podcast to talk about her business, Spread Your Sunshine and the transit issues surrounding the Tampa Bay Area. Tasked with helping women overcome gender-related challenges in the workplace, Spread your Sunshine offers effective mentorship for female professionals to help boost confidence and career advancement through real life experience. They talk about the advancement of the agency and the potential expansion to assist young women at an early age and across the state. Melanie also talks about her work as Policy Committee Chair with the Tampa Bay Area Regional Transit Authority (TBARTA), focusing on transit issues in the Tampa Bay Area and the dreaded I-4 Corridor. This episode was recorded live at Temple Israel in West Palm Beach, Florida. Our Jewish guest is Igor Shteyrenberg, director of the Miami Jewish Film Festival, which in five years he grew from an annual event with 4,000 attendees to the third largest Jewish film festival in the U.S. He tells us his favorite new Jewish films, the most controversial film the festival has screened (hint: there were zombies), and the Jewish movie he’d make if he were given carte blanche to choose from all the actors and directors in the world. Our Gentile of the Week is Rocco Mangel, the restaurateur behind Rocco’s Tacos and Tequila Bar, which has six locations in Florida and one in Brooklyn. He tells us about getting his start in the business working in his family’s New York restaurants as a teenager, studying tequila in Mexico before opening his first location, and which South Florida location is the rowdiest (sorry, Boca).
