Comedian, broadcaster and podcaster Suzi Ruffell joins Grace in her east London home. Suzi's comedy CV boasts an impressive five sellout runs at the Edinburgh festival fringe, appearances on Live at the Apollo, Mock the Week and The Last Leg. She talks to Grace about family life with her wife, Alice, in Brighton; her struggles with anxiety; her mum's sandwich love language; and the moment her dad paid her £15 to eat a spoonful of mustard powder
Joining Grace on Comfort Eating this week is actor and comedian Babatunde Aléshé. Babatunde stole the nation's hearts with appearances on Celebrity Gogglebox, and I'm a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here. He talks to Grace about how his mum is every bit the Nigerian matriarchal stereotype, the age old debate of who makes the best jollof rice, and how a strong dislike for cheese allowed him the privilege of ordering off-menu at school
British comedian Dave Gorman joins Grace for another scrumptious helping of Comfort Eating. Across the noughties, Dave took the British comedy scene by storm, and is known for taking the mundane, adding some sparkle and creating an Edinburgh festival fringe show, a UK tour and a book. Now he is back with a reboot of Dave Gorman: Modern Life is Goodish. Dave recounts how his hero comedian Frank Skinner gave him his big break; how fish and chips equals celebration; and what he munches on to fuel his frequent all-night writing sessions

Comedy demands a mastery of pacing to make a story flow but most importantly make the audience laugh. Whether it's solving mysteries in the coming-of-age comedy horror WEDNESDAY, the misfortunes of a dysfunctional family in MOONSHINE, the attempt to save a mediocre hockey team in SHORESY, or building a business of fake IDs with very real consequences in FAKES. This year we invited the 2023 CCE nominee editors of these spectacular shows to tell us about the craft of editing in the comedic genre. Maybe they'll tell us a joke or two.

"So we go into NBC, we tell them we've got an idea for a show about nothing." "Exactly" "They say what's your show about? I say nothing." "There you go" "I think you may have something here..." This is the conversation that takes place between Jerry and George in a Seinfeld episode from season 4 called "The Pitch." It was the fictionalized version of the real process that led Jerry Seinfeld and Larry David to create one of the biggest and most successful shows in television history. Today we travel back to 1988 to witness the origins, creation, and everything that went into the launch of the very first episode of Seinfeld, a pilot dubbed "The Seinfeld Chronicles" that first aired on July 5th, 1989. It was a pilot that seemed dead in the water as the network, test audiences, and even some of the cast didn't think it had a chance of success. But little did everyone know what this tiny show about nothing would eventually become... The Everything 80s Movie Review Podcast: Patreon.com/80s

A well-regarded producer of television specials and variety shows, George Schlatter, in 1967 pitched to NBC an idea that was a radical departure: a comedy special inspired by the hippie counter-culture, one which would take the idea of sit-ins, love-ins, and be-ins, and manifest that politicized, sexualized, consciousness-raising energy into comedic sketches. The special, Laugh-in, was so successful it became a regular television series, running from January 1968 to March 1973 and eventually becoming the #1 show on TV. George is the author of the new book Still Laughing: A Life in Comedy featuring never-before-told backstories from the creation of one of the most beloved shows in television history. It also recounts the coming-of-age of one of television's great producers, from his early nightclub days in Vegas, rubbing elbows with iconic mob figures like Mickey Cohen and John Stompanato, to his influential friendships with Judy Garland and Frank Sinatra, for whom George was asked to deliver a eulogy at his funeral.

Jonny Sweet won the 'Best Newcomer' Prize at the 2009 Edinburgh Festival Fringe, created a sketch group with 'The Inbetweeners' Simon Bird and Joe Thomas, and appeared in many TV Comedies, including 'Chickens' and 'Him and Her'. He wrote the movie 'Wicked Little Letters' starring Olivia Colman, which was released this year. He has also just published one of the most acclaimed novels of the year. 'The Kellerby Code' tells the story of Edward, living in a world he can't afford and to which he doesn't belong. Getting by doing odd jobs for friends, he falls in love with one of them, and after a little act of kindness in the group takes a sinister turn, it unleashes the unspeakable brutality at Edward's core.We talk about why he's been lying to people about the plot, and how the writing process changes depending on what he's working on. You can hear how much he thinks like a director when writing, and why he prefers not to hear himself think. This novel has been highly recommended by some of the best authors around, and we discuss how he deals with such praise. You can support the show at patreon.com/writersroutine@writerspodwritersroutine.com Hosted on Acast. This is STILL HERE HOLLYWOOD. I'm Steve Kmetko. Join me, with today's guest, and one of the stars of “Home Improvement”, Debbe Dunning. In the 1990's television was in its heyday… The bulk of shows were still on the four broadcast networks. No streaming yet. Some cable. It was great. One show on ABC catapulted some of its early stars into worldwide superstardom. One went to “Infinity and beyond”. Another went to the beach. But when a cast changes on a TV hit, the show obviously, must sill go on.There was one actor who perfectly filled the shoes and tool belt of the previous star in order to help keep the show on the air for years. https://thedebbedunning.com/Social:@debbedunning Show CreditsHost/Producer: Steve KmetkoAll things technical: Justin ZangerleExecutive Producer: Jim LichtensteinMusic by: Brian SanyshynTranscription: Mushtaq Hussain https://stillherehollywood.comSuggest Guests at: stillherehollywood@gmail.comAdvertise on Still Here Hollywood: jim@stillherenetwork.comPublicist: Maggie Perlich: maggie@numbertwelvemarketing.com

Charles and Logan dive into Seth MacFarlane's grimy quasi-sitcom ‘Ted,' which acts as a prequel to the 2012 movie ‘Ted' and 2015 sequel ‘Ted 2.' Is comedy dead? Can ‘Ted' fix it? Is this show even watchable without the devil's lettuce? After discussing these pressing questions, they talk about the other trashy shows they've guiltily (or not) partaken in recently.
