Send us a textIt was a real pleasure to sit down with the legend that is Mike Brewer at the NEC Classic Car Show. We recorded this live, in front of lots of people, so please excuse the blip in sound quality - we've done the best with what we had. Things start off with a real 'one off' hat flying out the car and back in again earliest car memory, before we hear about the custom cars his Dad built, including the Ford Pop called 'Pinball Wizard' which has been replicated a number of times in tribute. In later life Mike recounts the tale of sourcing a sensible car for his Dad to drive his Mum around in. He delivers a Ford S-Max, but his Dad isn't impressed. However, it only takes a few miles and he's smitten, a few months later he's modified it... lowered on split rim wheels, carbon bonnet and mirrors! He just can't stop it!! We hope you enjoy this episode, and please do take a moment to look up Mikes TV program Born Dealer which we reference a number of times whilst chatting. Fratello On Air comes at you with a new episode. This time, we're talking about our horological hopes for 2023. Of course, there's some typical banter along with some pre-holiday cheer. Settle in by the fireplace (or at the beach, perhaps) and enjoy our last episode before Christmas.2022 absolutely blew by and we're now less than two weeks from entering a new year. With that, we have hopes for 2023 and we get into some of our prognostications and questions. The economy looks a tad shaky and that may spell opportunity for some and trouble for others. What will the next year bring?Handgelenks KontrolleBefore discussing our hopes for 2023, we have a chat about the seriously cold weather in Germany. We then move on to a couple of shows that we have either enjoyed or are enjoying — Car S.O.S. and Wheeler Dealers. These are fun shows that just might appeal to a vintage watch nerd who likes the thrill of the hunt for obscure parts while taking in some history. Then, it's time for the Handgelenks Kontrolle. Mike is wearing his Rolex GMT-Master 16758 with a "nipple dial" on a German-made strap with reindeer embossed on it. Balazs keeps on the brown theme with his MoonSwatch Mission to Saturn. Our Hopes for 2023We bounce around a lot during our main topic: our hopes for 2023. We refer to the Rolex market and the fact that watches are slowly becoming more available at AD's. Mike also surmises that limited editions will continue in force to help keep people addicted. Both Balazs and Mike have become more excited about what the independents will do next year and even discuss what MING could offer. When it comes to Omega, the duo feels that the Speedmaster Professional could be in play with exotic materials and/or new dial colors. Regarding Tudor, both are flummoxed when it comes to guessing what could come next. Finally, we'd love to see a Zenith diver, a genre that the brand needs to address. We hope you enjoyed this episode and if you're celebrating in the next week or so, have a great time! As always, feel free to let us know if you have a topic that you'd like us to cover in a future episode.
Javier Paramo has experienced 15 minutes of fame many times. You might know him from his beautiful white MA60 Celica Supra or appearance on Wheeler Dealers, Netflix's Fastest Car, his cameo in Fast and the Furious 1, his annual hosting of Supras in Vegas, or his features in Import Tuner and MotorMavens. What you might not know is that there's a good chance he was the very first Mexican drifter. Javier is Benson's old friend, and they spent a lot of time together in the junkyards, wrenching on their cars and just being young guys who loved Japanese style cars. They later learned how to drift together. Javier eventually went on to win 2nd place at the 2nd Option Ikaten ever held on US soil in early 2003 at Irwindale Speedway. Take a stroll down memory lane with us as we talk about early import car culture and how it eventually lead Javier to being on the podium next to Andy Yen and Alex Pfeiffer at an event that became a major turning point for American drifting. There aren't many TV shows with a cult following like Wheeler Dealers. Dubbed the ‘world's most-watched car show' after almost 20 years on air, I am thrilled to speak with the host of the show, Mike Brewer. Mike is one of the best-known personalities in the motoring industry, and I doubt there's anything he doesn't know when it comes to cars. Mike and I discuss his incredible success over the years, how he became an overnight TV sensation, the motoring trade, the future of the automotive industry and if we really can expect to travel in private drones in a few years. If you're a die-hard fan of the show, want to learn more about Mike's humble journey to success, or have an interest in cars – then this episode is for you. When the BBC was looking for a supplier of live fish for a then relatively unknown TV show known as 'Red Dwarf. This moment of happenstance sent James on a journey of discovery into the world of film and television. Some of the many takeaways from this episode include:The things we love as a child, give us clues to the things that could make us happy as adults. James was lucky enough to continue on that path, but many of us forget what lit us up inside. How learning your craft and working your way up is part of the journey. But that in doing the work and absorbing everything on the way, you will become a well-rounded expert in your niche! How important it is as new business owners do not have all of your eggs in one basket and be reliant on one client.
