No matter where you are in your career, you'll benefit from listening to 3Q. 3Q provides a window into the careers of some of the best in the music business. Every episode is an insider's view of the realities of life as a music executive. Topics include issues of empowerment, uncertainty, trust, finances, etc; issues that will impact you both personally and professionally. The executives we interview represent every aspect of the industry including but not limited to A&R, Marketing, Music Supervision, Artist Management, Promotion, and more. About Tyson: Tyson Haller is a promotion executive with over 20 years of experience in the music industry. During that time he's gained a broad knowledge of the opportunities for business growth and the promotion strategies that generate success. He's enthusiastic, personable and perceptive and has been recognized for his creativity and persuasive interpersonal communication style. After two internships in college, one at Atlantic Records in Chicago and the other at Virgin Records in London, in addition to also holding three part time jobs during school in the music field, assistant manager at a record store, director of hospitality at a concert venue and Elektra college rep, he landed his first job at Elektra Records in NYC as an assistant in the Tour Marketing Department. While still at Elektra, he moved on to doing College Promotion and later transitioned to Virgin Records to also run their College Promotion Department. He was quickly promoted to be Virgin's New York local where he dealt with some of the biggest radio stations in the country across all formats like Z100, WLTW, K-Rock, Hot 97, WPLJ and WKTU. Wanting to grow into a National role, he left Virgin to start the radio department at Warner Music Group's new incubator label EastWest. This was where his ability to quickly develop new relationships with radio was tested. With a list of unknown artists to work and no major label catalog to bring him credibility, Tyson created a reputation for being an analytical and strategic thinker. After some early radio successes with Pepper and Nightmare of You EastWest merged into ILG and his department grew. Now overseeing a team of four, he led the department to multiple Top 5 and Top 10 records at Alternative and Rock radio with tracks from Cake, Silverchair, Sevendust, Middle Class Rut, Beware of Darkness and Tantric to name a few. ILG would later became the Label Services Department at ADA, where Haller led the promotion department in some of ADA's biggest successes at radio to date, including Macklemore & Ryan Lewis‘s “Thrift Shop,” Arctic Monkeys, Stone Temple Pilots and The Wombats. Following his role as head of radio, he rose to lead the entire Label Services team in the U.S., where he oversaw marketing, publicity, digital marketing, playlist promotion, video promotion, sync & licensing and radio promotion. During that time, the department saw the rise of new artists Lil Dicky, Madeintyo and Caye. Following ADA, Tyson went to Concord as VP of Promotion and within a year was promoted to run the department as SVP/Head of Promotion. During his tenure as head of the department, the promotion team achieved ten #1 records with bands such as iDKHOW, Seether, The Pretty Reckless, Korn, The Offspring, Ghost, Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats and Rise Against. Also during that time, the company became the #1 label at rock radio for the year and a Top 10 label at Alternative radio. Tyson is currently SVP, Promotion & Artist Strategy at Shelter Music Group where he works alongside the company's team of managers to assist in artist development, as well as, create, drive and support multiple radio campaigns across the roster.
so who amongst us has not been up until 5am contemplating how very different Abel Ferrera's “Bad Lieutenant” would've felt had Schoolly D sampled Tony Joe White instead of Jimmy Page. Or if Harvey Keitel had been listening to Rosko on WKTU instead of Chris Russo on WFAN. I mean, we'll never know for sure but there's no harm in staying up all night thinking about it, recording a show meant to address these issues and then losing track of time while taping and never getting around to mentioning the subject.
Bissen on the Virtual Sessions presented by The DJ Sessions 11am PST 10/04/22 About Bissen - Hot off his second mix compilation album, a continuous US tour, a slew of major label remixes for the likes of M83, Madonna, Depeche Mode, Major Lazer, Jojo and Ruth B, two Beatport Top 10 hits over the last couple year with his project Exostate, and a slew of upcoming releases in the pipelines, German-born, New York residing Georg Bissen has never been busier making his mark in the world of EDM. Bissen has created some of the biggest dancefloor smashers in the club scene in recent years, all while also designing sound presets for Ableton Live, Sample Logic and others, writing music for adverts for some of the world's biggest brands, doing sound design and composing for major TV networks, and running his own music licensing, production and publishing business. Storming the scene almost a decade ago with the now classics "Exhale" and "Quicksand," Bissen has, as a dance music artist and producer, had over a hundred original and remix releases since. These records have been released on some of the biggest, most desired and well-respected labels in the industry, including many of the major label imprints. Always in pursuit of a fist-pumping, "all systems go" attitude, Bissen's sound exhibits an effective blend of tough, energetic beats and grooves, coupled with extremely memorable, big melodic riffs and hooks--proper huge tunes for dancefloors, not armchairs, that have lasting impacts on clubgoers and DJs alike. Bissen creates one club banger after another, from his remix of the Black Eyed Peas #1 song "I Gotta Feeling", which was one of Ibiza's summer anthems of 2009 and received extensive UK BBC Radio1 play, to 2011's "2nite U R Perfect", which was one of the year's most memorable club songs, being featured on German and US FM radio, as well as on DMX, reaching millions of shoppers every day; to 2016's remix of The Chainsmoker's "Don't Let Me Down", which got extensive club and US terrestrial radio play, especially on New York's 103.5 WKTU. 2011 saw Bissen start up his project "Exostate" with singer Jeza for Enhanced Recordings, 2 out of 3 singles released so far reaching the Beatport Top 10. In late 2012, along with long-term collaborator Victor Dinaire, Bissen embarked on doing remixes for major artists and labels, starting with the French art rock band M83's "Steve McQueen", received to much critical acclaim, as well as Major Lazer and Flux Pavilion's "Jah No Partial", which went top 25 on the Billboard club charts. With a remix in 2014 for Bingo Players' “Knock You Out” the duo helped propel the release to #1 on the Billboard Club charts, scoring their first #1 record on that chart. Dinaire and Bissen have since lent their hands to dozens of remixes, helping releases chart in the top 10 of the Billboard Club Play Charts numerous times since 2014, with 5 additional #1s so far. In 2016, Dinaire+Bissen remixed Ruth B "Lost Boy", which went into summer-long regular rotation on terrestrial US radio, including WAPE Jacksonville and KKHH Houston. In 2015, alongside Victor Dinaire, Bissen scored the documentary “Glory Daze: The Life and Times of Michael Alig”, which documents the heyday of New York clubbing in the 90s. The soundtrack is an authentic representation of the classic New York club sound of the mid 1990s. The movie saw a North American release in 2016 and can currently be viewed on all major streaming portals as well as on Netflix. In 2016 Bissen started working closely with renowned DJ Tony Moran. Their collaborative effort has spawned over 2 dozen works, including many original records for Moran, as well as joining together for a few remixes. Bissen eventually produced and co-produced over half of Moran's latest double-sided album "Mood Swings." The two updated a cover version of the 90's Lighthouse Family “High” as a charity song for the 2016 Orlando club shooting massacre victim's families. As a DJ, Bissen delivers his no-nonsense approach with exciting and uplifting sets. He boasts over a decade of spinning experience, beginning in college, and continuing in New York, where, for years he djayed at loft parties, which he helped organize. Since 2011, Bissen has seen his international DJ career soar, playing in the UK, Germany and Canada, as well as filling clubs all over the US, including Los Angeles (Circus), San Diego (Hard Rock), Philadelphia (Rumor), Orange County (Sutra) and of course New York, where he currently plays about once a month-- from big rooms such as Pacha and Webster Hall, to more intimate venues, where he can experiment with and debut new tracks. In September 2012 Bissen celebrated the 100th episode of his radioshow and podcast "TranceAtlantic" live at the National Underground in New York. The 8-hour event was broadcast live on ETN.fm. TranceAtlantic is well past its 300th episode now, and is currently broadcast weekly on iHeartRadio, ETN.fm, 1Mix Radio, Party 103, Interference Radio and Party 107, with more syndications forthcoming. A full-time music professional, Bissen has written and collaborated on close to two thousand pieces of music and projects in his decade-long music career. Bissen got his start in the music business when he moved to New York City to work as a composer and engineer in the music for advertising industry. He formed his own music production and licensing company MetaTechnik soon after, which now boasts two offices in New York and Los Angeles. At MetaTechnik, Bissen has produced award-winning music for over 150 major national and international television shows and commercials. Due to this fact, his work is heard by tens of millions of people every week. By staying focused and consistently enhancing his sound and music, Bissen continues to carve his very own niche, with his versatility and far-reaching talents now penetrating almost all facets of the music industry, and growing every day. The New York Puerto Rican and Colombian duo grew up in the artistic melting pots of both Brownsville Brooklyn and Spanish Harlem. New York provided all sorts of inspiration from the creative pool of talent that surrounded the barrios of East Harlem and Brooklyn apartment projects. The friends teamed up after meeting at World Renowned Downtown records, where impoted dance music was sold and DJ's came from all over spent time there. Once teamed up after discovering that we were looking to DJ in new ways of blending and overlaying multiple tracks. Each loved playing local playing block parties and selling mix tapes to promote themselves and did not realize that they were revolutionizing the art of mixing and editing without any former technical education. Their popularity grew so quickly that this noticeable new style of mixing was exactly what the radio programmers from the top radio stations in NYC. DJing on their own mix shows for 98.7 Kiss and then WKTU as featured for the historic afternoon mixshow, Paco's Supermix, Tony and Albert were living more than a dream. An Artist/ Producer and one of the greatest remixers of all time, Arthur Baker (Hall & Oates/ Diana Ross) brought the Latin Rascals in right away to apply that exact Latin Rascal editing style to Arthur's dance remix of “Born In The USA” by Bruce Springsteen and with his musical involvement in the BEAT STREET MOVIE sound track with producer Harry Belafonte.

For the 50th (!) edition of the DC House Grooves Meet the Locals Podcast, we've got something really special: a celebration of pure disco joy from Eighteenth Street Lounge resident Adrian Collazo: "I decided to record a mix with disco and boogie tracks that are near and dear to my heart. I grew up with a lot of these songs and remember recording late night mixes on WKTU (Disco 92) in Brooklyn. The next day I’d bring out my boombox and sit on my stoop with other neighborhood kids to hang out and listen to my tapes. I started the mix with a common WKTU station ID and boy, it brings back memories. People sometimes ask me why I love DJing and it’s really quite simple - I love being a disco/boogie/funk ambassador as well as sharing my love for house and other music that derives from the disco era. Enjoy. You can catch me in the Jazz Room at ESL or at various underground spots in the District including Jimmy Valentine’s, Dr. Clock’s and Looking Glass Lounge - serving up a mix of disco, boogie, funk, and deep house. Check out my Facebook page for upcoming gigs." https://www.facebook.com/adrian.collazo https://soundcloud.com/adriancollazo Upcoming gigs: May 25 ESL Main Room May 26 Bear Happy Hour (R&R Hotel) May 27 ESL Jazz Room June 3 ESL Jazz Room June 9 Petworth Funk (@ Looking Glass Lounge) June 24 ESL Jazz Room
Erica Farber is the CEO of the Radio Advertising Bureau. And as the picture says - she loves radio! If you ever get the feeling that no one has your back in radio, stop by the website and you will remember the great things radio has going for it. There are tools, tips and tricks for non-members, but as we discussed - membership does have its privileges. She has a storied career that spans great decades at stations with legendary call letters. (Think KRTH, KABC and KIIS in Los Angeles) Many who enjoyed their radio years where an R&R magazine circulated the building, will remember her columns and contributions, including the infamous "back page". Titles like Publisher, COO and CEO came quickly after. Also this week, we flash back to the launch of WKTU in New York. We would like to thank this week's sponsors: Promosuite - http://www.promosuite.com/soundoff NLogic - NLogic - http://bit.ly/2yn3uCo

Growing up in the 1960s and '70s you probably spent quite a bit of time listening to the radio. This was when FM radio started to become competitive with AM stations. This is a re-creation of what it might have sounded like if you scanned the FM dial in the New York City area starting at 88.3 and working your way up to 107.5.
