With over 25 resorts, Walt Disney World has something for everyone. No matter what your price range, you're sure to find theming and an immersive environment. Each resort has its own unique charm, and some have exclusive activities. When it comes to value resorts, Disney's Pop Century is my favorite; it's a nostalgic look at the unforgettable fads of the 1950s through the 1990s. The Disney Skyliner station connection the resort and Art of Animation to the Carriean Beach Station, continuing to Disney Hollywood Studios or Epcot isn't a bad addition at all When you checked in, did you notice the Shadowboxes along the way across from the check-in counters? Those shadowboxes tell the story of the decades, the story of the resort. Pre-Covid, on select days the resort front desk staff would conduct a “Shadowbox Tour.” The icons are unmistakable, from the 1950s Lady and the Tramp, and bowling pins, 1960's Yo-Yos Hippie flowers, and Play-Doh. The 1970s 8-Track tapes, Disco and Big Wheel, the 1980s Rubik's cube and Rodger Rabbit and Cell Phones and Laptops of the 1990s. Pop Century is a salute to the timeless fashions, catchphrases, toys, and dances of those decades. When you checked in, did you notice the Shadowboxes along the way across from the check-in counters? Those shadowboxes tell the story of the decades, the story of the resort. Pre-Covid, on select days the resort front desk staff would conduct a “Shadowbox Tour.” The tour typically started around 3:30, so if you're like me, at 3:30 in the afternoon in Walt Disney World, I would be in one of Walt Disney World's Theme Parks. So the Shadowbox tour is one of those things I always wanted to do, but who has the time? Well, one day back in 2014 headed back to Pop Century to get ready for the Not So Scary Halloween Party, and that was my opportunity to record the tour, not just any tour, a private tour for you and me! That tour is this episode of SamsDisneyDiary. Thanks for watching.

Together with American Songwriter and Sean Ulbs of The Eiffels, we had the pleasure of interviewing Amahiru over Zoom video! Amahiru is the new musical powerhouse of Frédéric Leclercq (Kreator, Sinsaenum, Ex-Dragonforce) and SAKI (Mary’s Blood, an all-female metal band from Japan). Their friendship began in 2015 when Mary’s Blood played as the support band for Dragonforce in Hong Kong. Frédéric and SAKI got along very quickly and it didn’t take long before they started working on a musical project together. In the following years they exchanged many ideas and Frédéric finally came to Japan in March 2019 to finish the songs. So the music of Amahiru is just a mixture of Kreator and Mary’s Blood?“No, it is much more than that”, as Frédéric Leclercq explains. “I’m influenced by many artists, pretty much anything I hear I can consider an influence and music should be the reflection of that. With Amahiru I personally wanted to do something groovy and melodic and still metal/hard rock. We didn’t want to make 12 songs sounding the same. SAKI and I have a lot in common musically and it was really easy to work together in the same direction. I’m not going to pinpoint which parts, but I can hear Pantera, Extreme, Disturbed, Avenged Sevenfold, MSG, Iron Maiden, Megadeth…the list goes on.” Although you would still classify the album as a “metal album”, you cannot ignore the oriental elements that Saki brought in. Especially the Shakuhachi (traditional Japanese woodwind instrument), which was recorded by the Japanese virtuoso Kifu Mitsuhashi, gives the world of Amahiru a great, exotic touch. Some prominent musicians from the metal scene have taken over the other roles in the band. Coen Janssen from Epica, who has also played keyboards in several Dragonforce productions, joined them first. Then came Mike Heller, known as the super drummer of Fear Factory and Raven. The biggest challenge was to find a suitable singer for the band. “Originally we wanted to have more traditional metal vocals”, Frédéric Leclercq describes. “But when I came to Japan to finish the songs, SAKI and I realized that we needed something more… ballsy.”Then he met Archie Wilson. The vocalist from the UK may be less well known than other musicians in this band, but he is obviously the key to Amahiru’s music, as Frédéric confirms. “He has a strong voice, a great sense of rhythm and he is totally versatile. High notes are no problem for him and he can be melodic and aggressive at the same time – the perfect match for Amahiru and the last missing piece of the puzzle”.Amahiru may sound like a Japanese word, but it is not actually. Oddly enough, it was coined by Frédéric himself, not by SAKI. And the word was born in his dream. “We were trying to find a name and I had a dream in which someone was asking me to sign a contract for this band, Amahil, and the number 13 kept appearing in the contract. When I woke up, I actually remembered the dream vividly and started to do my little “thinking process”. Amahil sounded ok, but what if a Japanese person had to pronounce it? A ma hi ru . Ok, does it mean anything? I googled the name, nothing. Then I tried “Hamahiru” just for a different spelling sake, and here is the freaky thing: “Hamahiru” means 13 in Basquian . AND I DONT SPEAK BASQUIAN. I texted Saki immediately, told her the story and we were sold!”Amahiru’s self-titled debut album, which was mixed and mastered by Jens Bogren and produced by Frédéric Leclercq himself, we just released! We want to hear from you! In this latest issue of my weekly podcast, we discuss the Democratic National Convention. This week the DNC will run from Monday through Thursday night. The convention has stressed Biden's moderation. On Monday night, unusually, four prominent Republicans were to invited on stage to denounce Trump and endorse Biden. While the on-line "infomercial" format might fire-up the base, the lack of a live audience probably dampens the excitement for most Americans. Still no progress on stimulus. The large $600 federal UI bonus terminated on the week ending July 25. My take? Many people can't afford to live on the unaugmented state benefit. They are either not bothering to pick them up or they are going back to work for less money. Going back to work may give an immediate boost to employment--which you can see in the Real-Time Population Survey for the last two weeks. But it is also--and perversely--going to reduce aggregate demand by pulling down DPI and act to reduce (a) the economic growth multiplier, (b) the investment accelerator, and (c) inflation pressure.Biden chooses his VP. Last Friday, Joe Biden announced Senator Kamala Harris as his running-mate. Harris was a risk averse choice. She has been vetted by the media, she is comfortable on the national stage, and her ethnicity is a draw for both Asians and African-Americans. While the Senator brings charisma to Biden's campaign, the needless "identity politics" process by which Biden chose Harris was a turnoff for most Americans. Economic indicators slow down. Retail sales MoM came in at +1.2% for July, below expectations of 1.9%. The growing number of C19 cases is believed to have kept shoppers home. Michigan Consumer Sentiment remained unchanged from June to July as consumers await a new stimulus bill. And the NAHB Housing Index hit a 22 year high, coming in at 78 for July. US solidifies relations with Taiwan. The White House has finalized plans to sell Taiwan 66 new F-16 fighter jets. HHS Secretary Alex Azar also visited the island to meet with President Tsai Ing-wen. China has responded by conducting new military demonstrations and flying fighter jets across the Taiwan Strait median line.Belarus embroiled in protests. Since President Lukashenko won reelection with 80% of the vote, massive demonstrations have gripped the country with accusations of election fraud. Hundreds of thousands have filled the streets calling for Lukashenko to step down. Putin has publicly declared Russia will invade Belarus if "western" protesters threaten the stability of the country. Should we brace for a repeat of the Ukraine invasion? This is definitely Putin's "near abroad."A new study predicts that the world population will peak decades ahead of the UN forecast thanks to declining fertility rates. Instead of the year 2100, the study estimates the global population will peak in 2064 and that the elderly will also make up a larger share of the total than the U.N. projects. **********The content featured here is a small part of Hedgeye’s Demography Unplugged, a game-changing market intelligence product brought to you by historian, demographer and best-selling author Neil Howe. Recently, while recording the track “Vessels” for Damon Albarn’s world music collective Africa Express, he met South African electronic producer Muzi. They have since collaborated on a futuristic Welsh Language pop album, with a couple of verses of Zulu and an English title, Pang! (also partly inspired by Gruff’s visit to Prince’s Paisley Park studio and the gloss of Prince's Around the World in a Day.)
