Do you have a boss who's difficult to deal with? Ever feel frustrated, unappreciated or question whether you should just quit? If so, you're not alone -- and that's exactly what we're diving into on today's podcast. It's often said people leave managers, not jobs. And it's understandable. A bad boss can drain your motivation, impact your performance -- and even leave you questioning whether you're in the right role. But before you move on, it's important to consider how YOU can build a better relationship with your boss. Because if you don't address the REAL issues, you'll likely face the same challenges somewhere else.In my coaching work, I hear stories of leaders dealing with difficult personalities, conflicting leadership styles -- and at times, downright bad behaviour.Despite the challenges, dealing with a difficult boss can be an opportunity to develop your own leadership skills, build resilience and learn how to self-manage.One of the most valuable skills you can learn as a leader, is the art of ‘managing up.' Yet while there's plenty of advice about how to lead your own team, what's rarely discussed is how to manage upwards to the person you report to. While you can't control your boss's behaviour, you get to choose how to RESPOND to it. As a leader, it's critical to take responsibility for HOW you're managed and proactively build a stronger relationship with your manager. In today's episode, I'll be sharing eight powerful strategies to help you confidently ‘manage up' and take back control of your career. You'll learn:How understanding your boss's behaviour and working style allows you to adapt your approach -- and manage up with more ease and influenceWhy taking responsibility for how YOU lead and communicate helps you stay in control, even in the toughest environmentsA constructive way to approach difficult conversations, so you protect the relationship with your manager and create meaningful changeSmart solutions to common ‘bad boss' behaviours, so you take ownership of the situation instead of waiting for changeHow to decide whether to stay or go -- and practical steps to stay engaged or minimise risk before you make a moveSo hit play NOW -- and let's dive in!Thanks for listening. Do you struggle to negotiate your worth -- or lose confidence and end up accepting less than you deserve? If this sounds familiar, you're not alone -- and it's exactly what we're diving into on today's episode.I remember walking into my boss's office, palms sweating and heart racing. It was early in my career and my first real negotiation discussion. I was about to ask for the pay-rise I believed I deserved based on my performance and financial results.Despite this, I became tongue-tied and ended up accepting terms I wasn't happy with. Less than what I knew I was worth (and one of my male colleagues had negotiated).Because it doesn't matter how confident you are in front of clients or speaking about your area of expertise. I worked in sales and negotiated with large corporations every day. Many of my clients are lawyers and negotiate for a living. But when it comes to our careers and ‘selling ourselves' many people struggle.Whether you want to negotiate a pay-rise, promotion or new job offer, you MUST know your value and how to communicate it with confidence.Over the past 17 years, I've helped hundreds of leaders secure salary increases and learn to effectively negotiate. And with annual performance review season upon us, I'm pulling back the curtain on my biggest insider secrets. In today's episode, I'm sharing six simple strategies to help you confidently negotiate your worth -- and get EXACTLY what you want! You'll learn:Two critical factors you MUST know to set yourself up for success -- long before the conversation beginsThe ONE question you need to answer to put yourself in a strong negotiation positionHow to give yourself room to negotiate and increase the chances of getting what you wantA simple mindset shift to boost your confidence before (and during) the conversationWhat to do when your request is declined -- and how to keep the door openThe negotiation habit that helps you stay in control and avoid accepting less than you deserveSo hit play NOW -- and let's dive in!Thanks for listening. Careers like law, accounting and finance -- where there's one clear path and model of success laid out in front of you.Yet what happens when you DON'T follow this path? 134 years. That's how long it will take to reach gender parity. So what's holding women back at work? And more importantly -- what can we do about it? That's exactly what we're diving into today.I grew up in the '80s -- the decade of big hair, power suits and Working Girl. A time when women were independent and ambitious. To me, women had ALWAYS been successful at work -- and anything I wanted to achieve in my career was possible.Yet when I entered the workforce (big hair still in tow!), I found workplaces built on traditional systems where men held the power. The corporate environments I worked in encouraged healthy competition and rewarded high performance. As I watched the women around me adapt to these systems, I did the same. From my 20's, the message was clear: To succeed as a woman, I had to be confident, competitive -- even aggressive.Fast forward two decades and workplaces have evolved. We've seen a shift towards equal pay, diversity initiatives and more women in leadership. After 17 years supporting people in their careers, I'm in awe of how far we've come. But progress isn't happening fast enough. And while International Women's Day builds awareness of these issues, I want to extend the conversation beyond one day a year. Because I know real action begins with YOU taking ownership of your career. In this episode I'm breaking down the biggest barriers women still face at work and how to move past them. Whether you're navigating these challenges yourself or leading a team, you'll walk away with practical steps to create real change! You'll learn:Why flexible work can limit visibility and career progression -- and what to do about itThe ONE thing you can control when balancing motherhood and your careerHow to position yourself so hiring managers see your potential -- not their assumptionsThe REAL reason women are still paid and promoted less -- and ways to change thisHow to reclaim your voice at the table and be heard with clarity and confidenceActionable strategies to create collaboration over competition -- and help leaders support women at workSo hit play NOW -- and let's dive in!Thanks for listening. Have you ever caught yourself comparing your success to someone else's? When I watched Demi Moore's recent Golden Globe speech, it hit home. Comparison is something ALL ambitious leaders struggle with, no matter how successful or experienced you are. And today, we're tackling it head-on. Picture this...You're feeling on top of the world -- fulfilled by your work and completely satisfied with where you are in life. Then out of nowhere, it all comes crashing down. You're scrolling LinkedIn and see a peer being featured in a major industry publication. Or a colleague lands the promotion you were hoping for -- taking on a bigger role, leading a high-profile project, or stepping into the C-suite.Suddenly, the confidence and excitement you had about your progress disappear. You start questioning yourself and doubting your abilities. What you're experiencing is career ‘comparisonitis'. And you're not alone. Comparison culture is everywhere -- especially in a world of social media and ‘perfect' Instagram feeds. They say comparison is the thief of joy, but it's also the thief of progress. It pulls you away from your own goals and often leads to inaction.Does it feel like everyone else is getting ahead -- faster than you?In today's episode, I share five practical strategies to stop the cycle of comparison -- once and for all! You'll learn:The psychology behind comparison, WHY you fall into the trap and the first step to break freeMy personal experience with comparisonitis -- and two ways to transform it into fuel for successHow to redefine success on YOUR own terms and train your brain to let go of career comparison for goodThe simple mindset shift to silence self-doubt and help you make a real impactSo hit play NOW -- and let's dive in!Thanks for listening. Do you know what you're working towards in 2025? If not, you're not alone. Many high performers I work with feel stuck, unsure of what they truly want and overwhelmed about where to start. So in today's episode, we're talking about how to clarify YOUR vision for the year ahead! As a child, I remember sitting on the living room floor with my sister, surrounded by stacks of my mum's glossy magazines. Scissors in hand, we'd cut and paste (the old-fashioned way!) our favourite images onto paper. Without realising it, we were creating our own version of the modern day ‘vision board'.Now, I'm very practical and strategic when it comes to goal-setting. For a long time, I dismissed the whole concept of vision-boards as fluff and frankly, a bit ‘woo-woo'. But as a certified coach, I've learnt how powerful it is to create a clear vision -- albeit in my own structured, logical way! Yet so many of us dive into goal-setting without considering the big picture. This is like trying to plan a journey without a final destination point. Because if you don't know WHAT you're working towards, it's impossible to figure out the right strategy to get there. In this episode, I share 5 practical tips to help you clarify your 2025 vision, set aligned goals and take action with confidence! You'll learn:3 critical questions to identify what is and isn't working, so you know EXACTLY where to focusThe 2 essential elements to align your vision with what matters most and create a fulfilling, sustainable careerPractical prompts to help you visualise your ideal 2025What to do when your resolutions don't stick -- PLUS specific examples of how my clients and I approach the year with intentionHow to transform your vision into a step-by-step plan and achieve your goals with clarity and confidenceSo hit play NOW -- and let's make your 2025 vision a reality! Thanks for listening. How often do YOU pause and reflect? It wasn't until I hit the point of burnout several years ago that I realised: I NEVER reflected on my career. As an Activator in the StrengthsFinder assessment, I'm a natural doer. Someone who dives into action, works hard and follow through -- traits I share with my high-achieving clients. Yet, this focus on 'doing': planning, strategising, ticking off to-do's -- often takes priority. This leaves little time to reflect on successes, learnings or celebrate progress TOWARD your goals. And this time of year, when you're tired or disappointed with your results, it's easy to overlook what you HAVE achieved. Our brains fixate on the gaps, which is why reflection is essential. In this special episode, I'm sharing my 4 game-changing lessons (and honest confessions) for 2024. Listen in to find out what worked, what didn't — and how these lessons can help YOU! Then, I'll walk you through a simple end of year reflection to review YOUR year, career -- and what you want in the next one. You'll learn:The ONE secret to maintain momentum, build confidence and achieve results in your career -- even during tough timesThe key people you need in your network NOW -- and how collaboration can progress your career and unlock future opportunities Why prioritising YOUR time and energy is key to building better boundaries with others My struggles with overwork this year and how to build sustainable career success without burning out Why waiting for clarity holds you back -- and how taking action turns confusion into a fulfilling, sustainable career4 powerful questions to reflect on your successes, learnings and set yourself up for a strong start in 2025!This episode is a perfect one to dive into over the holidays and a MUST listen to prepare for your best year yet. Several years ago I made an extreme and completely out of character decision... I closed my business for 2 months. To do -- absolutely nothing.I'd reached another cycle of complete burnout after YEARS of working 60+ hour weeks, late nights and weekends. After recognising the pattern of working myself to burnout -- both in my own business and back in my corporate career -- it was time to make significant changes. As a result, I created new habits, beliefs and behaviours which helped me beat the cycle of burnout -- once and for all. And this is exactly what I'm talking about on today's podcast.Because one thing I'm noticing is that leaders are feeling stressed, overwhelmed and exhausted as we close out the year. Whether you're overstretched at work from doing more, with less resources -- or busy balancing your career and personal commitments. So, instead of waiting until you hit the point of burnout like I did, what can you do NOW to overcome overwhelm? In today's episode, I get real and share my own personal battle with burn-out.You'll learn:3 simple steps to help you plan ahead and know EXACTLY where to focus The two essential elements to slow down during stressful periods, so you can speed up laterWhy prioritising YOUR time and energy is key to building better boundaries with others How cultivating this leadership skill creates space for strategic thinking, improved time management and a more sustainable workload The ONE shift you must make as a high-performer to feel more fulfilled at work and overcome overwhelmHow to beat overwhelm when life feels out of control -- or throws unexpected challenges your waySo hit play NOW and let's dive in!Thanks for listening. Is your job getting in the way of the career you want?Today, I'm talking about a common theme which comes up in my coaching sessions: How to balance your long-term career goals with the demands of your current role.Like one client put it, it's easy to get caught up in the ‘hamster wheel' of daily tasks -- and forget to allocate time to your long-term priorities. ESPECIALLY when the pace of change in the past few years has forced us to focus on fighting fires and short-term strategy. As this client experienced, thinking short-term led them to put their employer first and completely neglect their own career goals and development. Had they not addressed this, it could have hindered their ability to reach their long-term goals and limited them to whatever path their organisation offered them. And what I'm noticing right now as we get towards the end of the year is that SO many people are confused about what they want next in their careers. But they're also busy, exhausted and waiting until the new year (like everyone else) to figure it out. So what are some ways you can start to address this -- and set yourself up for success next year?In this episode, I'm sharing 5 strategies to balance your daily to-do list and long-term career goals, so you can take back control of your career! You'll learn:The danger of ticking ‘easy' items off your to-do list -- and why understanding your priorities is the essential starting pointWhat overwhelm is ACTUALLY trying to tell you and practical steps to get unstuck The REAL reason you keep procrastinating on your biggest priorities -- and what to do about it An often overlooked step which is CRITICAL to achieving your long-term career goalsTangible tips to help you accomplish your daily work tasks AND your big career ambitionsSo hit play on this episode NOW and let's dive in!Thanks for listening. How often do YOU pay attention to your career growth and development? Today, I'm talking about the less obvious signs you've grown in your career.Research shows employees want access to advancement opportunities at work. In fact, Gallup has linked record rates of disengagement to a lack of career development. Meanwhile, McKinsey found it's one of the top three reasons people quit their jobs. After working with hundreds of leaders, here's what I've noticed...You think about your development when you've got a big career goal in mind — say, a promotion. Or if you're feeling unhappy, unfulfilled or confused about what to do next in your career. Many organisations are now encouraging regular career and development conversations between staff and leaders. Yet for these discussions to be successful, they need to be employee led. Meaning: YOU must be clear on your career goals, development areas and track your progress on an ongoing basis. But when work (and life) gets busy, attention shifts to short-term priorities. And it's easy to forget your long-term goals, where you were six months ago -- and how much you've grown. So HOW can you tell if you're developing in your current position? In today's episode, I'm sharing 7 subtle signs you've grown in your role -- even if you think you haven't! You'll learn:2:50: A tell-tale growth sign -- and two things you NEED to know to advance your career 3:29: The danger of letting others dictate your career path and what to do instead 4:32: When worrying less about your weaknesses is a sign of career growth -- and a simple step to leverage your strengths6:26: Why confidence is the biggest clue you're developing in your current job -- and the one thing you MUST master to cultivate more of it!7:38: Whether doing MORE in LESS time is an indicator of growth8:25: When receiving recognition is clear evidence you've grown in your role8:55: How having ‘itchy feet' is hinting you're growing -- and practical ways to use it to develop your current career Listen in now -- all will be revealed in this episode! Thanks for listening. Are you ignoring what you WANT, in favour of what you think you ‘should' do?Today, I'm talking about one powerful little word which is sneaking its way into your vocabulary. And once I point it out to my clients, they can't unsee it. In fact, I they start pulling themselves up on it!Can you guess what this word is? It's SHOULD!I see it in my clients who've followed a conventional career path or climbed the corporate ladder, without ever considering what they really want. I've also experienced it myself after years of chasing external success, overachievement -- and spending the better part of my career working towards what I thought I ‘should' be doing. These are classic examples of what I call ‘should-ing' all over yourself. Overlooking what you WANT, for what you think you ‘should' do. Or putting yourself under pressure to ‘be' a certain way, rather than ‘who' you truly are. It also shows up when you have a tendency to please others and put everyone else's priorities or opinions ahead of your own. As a result, you struggle to make the right decisions, create the changes or reach the goals you desire. Are YOU should-ing all over yourself? In today's episode, I'm sharing 6 practical steps to help you break this habit — once and for all. You'll learn:The REAL reason you struggle to say no, set boundaries or want to please others -- and why awareness is the first step to changing it A powerful tool you need to know to shift your beliefs, behaviours and start owning your decisions Practical tips to help you prioritise -- and the ONE question you must ask when you have two conflicting ‘shoulds'How having clarity on what you DO want and taking intentional action towards it is key to letting go of what you believe you ‘should' doThe ‘danger' words to look out for -- and how to remove this limiting language so you can go after what you really WANTYou'll find out how to make the shift from what you think you ‘should' do and finally start creating the career you WANT.
