There are conversations that stay with you, not because they're perfectly planned, but because they unfold with honesty, depth, and unexpected wisdom. In this episode of Connect with Confidence, I reconnect with Mathew Samuel - a global business leader I met in India recently, over a simple cup of tea in Dr Ram's office at GRD College. What followed was a conversation about life, business, intuition, and the surprising power of talking to strangers.Mathew shares how his journey has been shaped not by rigid plans, but by openness to people, opportunity, and moments that didn't make sense at the time but later changed everything. From building brands across 40 countries to learning from failure, from navigating loss to recognising life's defining moments; this is a conversation about staying grounded while thinking globally. We explore:Why “strangers” may actually be the people who shape your life mostHow setbacks are really moments of unlearningThe discipline behind good decision-makingWhy simplicity is harder and more powerful, than complexityWhat it means to be ready when opportunity appearsThis is a spacious, reflective conversation that that invites you to pause, zoom out, and consider:Who are the “angels” that have appeared in your life?Loved this episode? More Techniques Alone Don't Lead to Better Outcomes with Dr. Tom TeterWhy do smart clinicians still get inconsistent results? In this AI-assisted audio training based on a recent article by Dr. Tom Teter, we explore a critical idea in modern clinical practice: more techniques alone do not lead to better outcomes. This episode challenges the belief that collecting more methods automatically improves care. Instead, it makes the case for stronger clinical reasoning, clearer progression, and a more complete model for bridging rehab and performance.Featuring the original ideas and framework of Dr. Tom Teter, developer of Rehab to Fitness and the Clinical Human Performance Practitioner (CHPP) Program. If you want to sharpen your thinking, improve consistency, and move beyond technique collection, this episode is for you.Key Topics: Why smart clinicians can still get inconsistent resultsWhy more techniques alone do not automatically improve outcomesThe difference between collecting tools and developing a true clinical modelHow inconsistency shows up in real-world patient careWhy the “gray zone” is where clinical reasoning matters mostHow rehab, progression, and performance are more connected than many clinicians realizeWhat it takes to think more clearly and practice more confidently under pressure
January and September can feel like a wave. The calls increase. The emails stack up. And for a moment, it feels like momentum. But calls are not the goal. Kept first sessions are the goal.In this episode, I walk you through how to turn inquiries into actual booked clients without pressure tactics, without sales scripts that feel inauthentic, and without overcompromising your boundaries. Most therapists were never trained in sales. What we were trained in is structure, clarity, and expectation setting. And that is exactly what increases your show rate.We talk about the four KPIs that actually matter in private practice and why the fourth one, first appointments kept, is where your income stabilizes. I show you how a simple consultation script reframes therapy as a three session process instead of a one session miracle. That shift alone reduces no shows and mismatched expectations. We also unpack friction in your intake system. Slow responses, too many contact methods, unclear policies, and bending your calendar to “just get them in” all create drop off. When anxiety goes up, cognition goes down. Your job is not to overwhelm a potential client with information. Your job is to guide a decision with structure. In this episode, we discuss:The four private practice KPIs and why first sessions kept matter mostHow a consultation script reduces no shows without sales tacticsWhere friction in your intake system quietly costs you bookingsWhy protecting your calendar increases retention and prevents burnoutIf your January surge feels chaotic instead of profitable, this episode will help you tighten one system this week. What does it really mean to trust someone—and how intentional are you about the choices you make every day? You'll rethink trust from the inside out as Charles Feltman challenges the idea that trust is vague or emotional and reframes it as a conscious decision to make something you value vulnerable to another person's actions. You'll learn how trust works in both directions and why being trustworthy isn't enough if you're unwilling to extend trust to others. Charles shares a practical, behavior-based framework built around four key domains—care, sincerity, reliability, and competence—along with real workplace examples that show how trust can be strengthened, assessed, repaired, or rebuilt through honest conversation and clear commitments. Charles has nearly three decades of experience helping leaders and teams build, maintain, and, when necessary, restore trust. He currently runs trust-building workshops under the banner of Trust at Work® and also speaks on the subject. An overarching goal in his work is that his clients achieve what they consider to be their full potential as leaders and as human beings. He is the author of The Thin Book® of Trust: An Essential Primer for Building Trust at Work. Currently in its 3rd edition, it has sold over 100,000 copies worldwide. If you've ever wondered whether there's a smarter, more efficient way to finance a home, this discussion will open your eyes.Jamal explains how the All-in-One flips the traditional 30-year mortgage model by using a sweep checking account and line of credit to push your income directly toward reducing your loan balance. Tariffs are dominating headlines — but what do they really mean for taxes, Washington, and your clients' retirement plans? In this episode of The Complete Advisor, Dennis Mattern sits down with Becky Swansburg, CEO of Stonewood Financial and Washington insider, to break down the truth: tariffs won't fix America's tax problems, and demographic pressures—not politics—are driving the future of taxation.Becky explains how tariffs actually function, why they rarely offset income taxes, and why rising legislative risk is one of the most overlooked threats to retirement planning today. She also reveals why NOW is a rare low-tax window for conversions and tax repositioning—and how savvy advisors can help clients regain control before the next wave of tax changes hits.If you serve retirees or pre-retirees, this is an episode you can't afford to skip.✅ Top 3 Takeaways for Advisors1. Demographics—not politics—are driving America's revenue crisis, meaning tariffs won't prevent future tax increases.2. Taxes must be treated as a “risk class” in every plan, equal to market risk and income risk.3. Advisors have a short window right now—thanks to OBA tax brackets and current legislative structure—to reposition assets and protect clients from future tax hikes.

You asked...we answered! In this first-ever “Ask Us Anything” episode, producer Melissa Martin flips the script and poses your biggest questions to host Matt Kirchner. The result is a candid, wide-ranging conversation that covers career decisions, workforce challenges, and the future of artificial intelligence. From elementary classrooms to C-suite hiring struggles to the role of AI in disrupting education, this episode explores the most pressing questions in STEM and technical education today. Matt and Melissa share real-world stories, practical advice, and unfiltered takes that every educator, employer, and student will find valuable.Listen to learn:Why career interests start forming as early as elementary school, and what kind of exposure matters mostHow young people can sort through post-secondary options without feeling trapped by a single choiceThe interview strategies that stand out to CEOs after thousands of candidate meetingsWhat manufacturers are getting right (and wrong) in the race to attract new talentHow AI is reshaping education, and why human relationships matter more than ever in the age of disruption3 Big Takeaways from this Episode:1. Early exposure changes student trajectories. Students begin shaping career perceptions as early as elementary school; use age-appropriate experiences to put advanced manufacturing and STEM on the radar. Matt traces his own path back to a fifth-grade plant tour - watching a vibratory deburring bowl - showing how simple, vivid experiences stick for years. 2. Talent pipelines are a long game. Employers that show up consistently, serve on advisory boards, visit classes often, bring students on site, even offer “pizza Tuesdays”, win attention and hires. Culture and first impressions matter on tours: clean, organized facilities and engaged employees signal a place students want to join, now and later. 3. AI elevates personalization and demands new pedagogy. Shift essay-style tasks toward live, in-class dialogue and reflection to reduce easy generative-AI shortcuts and increase real learning. Use data-informed, asynchronous pathways so learners who need time can take it, and those ready to advance aren't held back.Submit your own question for a future edition of Ask Us Anything on our website! https://techedpodcast.com/askusanything/We want to hear from you! Are you worried about your kids rebelling as teenagers?Do you ever wonder if your parenting style today is planting the seeds of future rebellion—or resilience? In this episode, Greg and Rachel Denning tackle the controversial connection between “restaurant parenting” and teenage rebellion. They share why forcing your children to “behave perfectly” in public often backfires, and how double standards in parenting create resentment and distance that can last for decades.Instead, they reveal a better way: building congruence, fostering autonomy, and meeting your child's deepest needs for love, certainty, identity, and adventure. When you allow children to “act their age,” explain the why behind rules, and respect their growing independence, you prevent destructive rebellion and instead raise courageous, confident adults. This powerful conversation explores:Why unmet needs lead to rebellion (and how to meet them early)The difference between healthy vs. unhealthy rebellionHow giving your kids autonomy strengthens respect and influenceWhy congruence between public and private parenting matters mostHow to prevent resentment from turning into long-term rebellionThe secret to keeping influence with your kids as they grow into teens and adultsIf you want to raise teens who respect you, trust you, and stay connected—without power struggles, yelling, or forced obedience— this episode will shift the way you see rebellion forever.
Today on Become A Calm Mama, we're continuing our conversation from last week about The Drama Triangle. This week, we're diving deeper into a healthier model, The Empowerment Dynamic (TED). You'll Learn:Unhelpful stories that you might be telling yourself right nowHow our thoughts and beliefs become our reality (and how to use this to your advantage)Questions to ask yourself to determine which roles you fall into mostHow to shift yourself and your family from drama to empowermentWhich roles I default to most and whyIn this episode, you'll learn HOW to actually switch roles and shift into this healthier dynamic. This is one of those episodes where you may want to grab your journal, answer some questions, and work through where these roles are showing up in your own family. ----------------------------------------In The Empowerment Dynamic, the roles shift from…Victim → CreatorPersecutor → ChallengerRescuer → CoachShifting Into The Empowerment DynamicWe all take on different roles at different times. It's normal to switch between them (even within a short period of time). But my guess is that there are a couple that you do most often. The challenge for you is to figure out how you act and why. Victim → CreatorBecoming a Creator is about getting creative with how you want to respond to life's challenges. It is inevitable that we will all experience sadness, pain, and misfortune. But you get to choose the way you look at and respond to these obstacles when they arise. The Victim has a “poor me” mindset. They don't really believe in their own power. They don't take responsibility for the circumstances that they find themselves in. They feel very helpless and trapped, doubt their own capabilities, and look to others to solve their problems for them. You can see how it would be easy for our kids to fall into this role. They're young, and little, and they do need our help. But there are ways to provide that help and guidance without being a helicopter parent or bulldozing a smooth road for them (which does nothing to help their self-confidence).If you think you or your child might be in a victim mindset, ask:Do you feel helpless?Do you feel like you have power here? Like you can do something about this situation? In the Empowerment Dynamic, we want to shift from the role of Victim into the role of Creator. This shift develops resilience and confidence. The Creator wants to create and be their best self. A creator thinks things like, “I'm good enough. I get to choose how to respond to my life,” and, “I am capable. I have the ability to take care of myself,” and, “I can trust myself. I know that I am worthy of trust.”You can help your child make this shift to believing in their abilities by affirming that:I know you are strong.I believe in your ability to figure this out. This is hard right now, but I know you're going to be okay.Don't bypass the feelings. Validate their emotion, show your support, and ask, “What do you want to do now? How do you want to handle this?”If you are in a victim mindset yourself, think about how you can get what you want in a healthy way. Think about times in the past when you have overcome challenges and feel gratitude for your strength in those moments. Persecutor → ChallengerThe shift from viewing someone as a Persecutor requires you to look at them from a more neutral place. Rather than seeing them as “the bad guy”, you see the circumstance as a challenge that you can overcome. And if you are showing up as a Persecutor, this shift...

What do you care about these days? Caring is the currency of leadership, but here's the paradox: when we care too much about too many things, we can lose sight of the things that truly matter. So the question is: How do you direct your energy toward what you value, without becoming overwhelmed by the sheer volume of things you could care about? The most effective leaders are those who can connect deeply with their teams, foster trust, and create a sense of safety and belonging. They lead with empathy, not just strategy. But perfectionism and overfunctioning can lead us to feel like we need to be everything to everyone, at the expense of our well-being and, ultimately, the quality of our leadership. For many of us, the path to effective leadership begins with finding your enough. When you shift your lens to honoring your enough, you stay connected to your values and to the people and causes that matter most to you, without tipping into exhaustion. My guest today offers a model of what it's like to care deeply without losing yourself in the process, and of finding joy and community along the way. At the heart of The Prophets' vision are “The 24 Essential Supply Chain Processes.” What are they? Find out, and see the future yourself. Click here What does it take to build trust between OEMs and suppliers — and why does it matter now more than ever?Dr. Angela Johnson, partner at Plante Moran and the new owner of the Working Relations Index (WRI), joins the show to walk us through the 2025 results and what they reveal about the automotive industry's most critical, and often overlooked, business relationships. This year's survey shows the biggest gap between the top and bottom OEMs since 2007. Toyota, Honda, and GM improved their scores, while Stellantis, Ford, and Nissan declined, widening the divide. Angela explains that this shift wasn't because the bottom three necessarily got worse, but because the top three pulled ahead by leveraging long-standing relationships and adopting collaborative practices when it mattered most.Internal alignment was another differentiator. Toyota, Honda, and GM worked across functions — purchasing, engineering, quality — while others struggled with silos and regional disconnects that left suppliers frustrated and confused.Culture came up again and again. Angela introduces the concept of “embedded behaviors” — leadership habits that trace back to a person's first real boss. These behaviors stick, often for decades, and shape how companies interact with suppliers today. In GM's case, even with ongoing issues like engineering changes and volume swings, suppliers recognized effort. They saw transparency, and it made all the difference. Then there's Ford. The team made a well-intentioned decision to outsource parts of purchasing to India, but didn't account for how it would affect supplier communication. It created more confusion than clarity, and it showed up in their WRI scores. One thing's clear: good relationships drive real results. Angela shares how WRI scores have a measurable connection to financial performance, especially for OEMs like Toyota, where strong supplier ties align closely with same-year earnings. The takeaway? It's not just about KPIs. It's how people behave. If you want better results, measure relationships and take them seriously.Whether you're a global OEM or a small supplier, the fundamentals are the same: communicate, treat people with respect, and stop thinking of relationships as the “soft stuff.”Because in this industry, they're anything but.Themes discussed in this episode:The widening trust gap between top and bottom OEMs in the 2025 WRI resultsHow strong supplier relationships directly impact financial performanceWhy responsiveness, communication, and basic “enabling behaviors” still matter mostHow internal silos and regional misalignment weaken supplier trustHow leadership behaviors are passed down across generations in the industryWhy measuring relationships—not just KPIs—is critical to long-term successThe hidden risks of outsourcing without proper communication planningThe cultural habits OEMs fall back on during times of stressFeatured on this episode: Name: Dr. Angela JohnsonTitle: Supplier Relations Analytics Principal at Plante MoranAbout: Dr. Angela leads supplier relations analytics at Plante Moran, where she manages the Working Relations Index® survey and

As I've been reflecting on the past year, themes of relational trauma, betrayal trauma, and shame have come up again and again in our culture at large and in the work I do with leaders.Relational and betrayal traumas disrupt our ability to trust—ourselves, others, and even the world around us. These wounds often linger in ways we don't fully see. They impact how we navigate relationships, handle conflict, and lead ourselves and others. And far, far too often, these unaddressed, unhealed traumas beget shame. Shame is one of the most destructive forces in leadership and relationships. When leaders operate out of shame, it's volatile and dangerous. It hurts both those who wield it and those who experience it. Healing shame requires sharing our pain with those who have earned the right to hear our stories—those who can hold space for us with compassion, accountability, and empathy.Empathy is the antidote to shame, and it's also what transforms leadership. Leaders who can navigate challenges with compassion, even under immense pressure, create trust, relational resilience, and growth environments. In today's replay of my conversation with Dr. Frank Anderson, he reminds us that healing isn't just personal—it's deeply relational. He also offers the provocative idea that we all have the capacity to be healers and the capacity to harm. When we commit to healing, we reclaim our ability to lead with clarity, compassion, and courage.Frank Anderson, MD, completed his residency and was a clinical instructor in psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. He is an author, psychiatrist, therapist, speaker, and trauma specialist who's spent the past three decades studying neuroscience and trauma treatment. To a certain degree, we are all holding onto the earthly things that are keeping us from fully embracing where God wants us to be We're not here to beat ourselves up, but whatever season you're in, there has to be a next level to strive toEven when you are filled with the Holy Spirit, you should still wake up thirsty for the Lord Pride and arrogance force us to lean on self-esteem, self-improvement and self-help so that we can say I can take care of me, and I dont need God. What does the word YIELD mean?Jealousy and envy are the root cause of most things which hold us back from living our Kingdom assignmentWhat has the development of social media done to pride, dating and our struggle to find what might be better?Human nature is to invite pride in, and you can't beat it, but you can be aware of it, cognisant of it and that is what we need mostHow can you catch yourself and use it as an opportunity to grow? What is the chasm between yourself and Jesus that he is asking you to put down in order for you to get closer to Him?Connect with us to get more Turned Onwww.turnedon.comFollow on IG @angelikenorrie and @davidnorrie.turnedonOfficial FB Community Page https://www.facebook.com/TurnedOnCommunity
