The Paris Olympics start this week, and I have clear memories dating back to the first one I can remember: Munich 1972.   Every 4 years we witness amazing performances and emotional moments. Hopefully, 2024 in Paris will be the same. For our podcast guest this week it will be a magical moment, when he steps onto the pontoon for the Men's Individual Triathlon next week.   Sam Dickinson is a professional triathlete based in Leeds, and he is one of 5 who have been selected for the GB Olympic triathlon team for the Paris Olympics. He will race in the men's individual event as well as the team relay over the next 2 weeks.   It's a great pleasure to welcome Sam back as he was a guest on this show 6 years ago, almost to the day. If you are interested in listening to the 18 year old Sam, you can listen using the above link. Back then, Sam had just arrived in Leeds to start his journey as a full time triathlete at the Leeds Performance Centre. And since then, Sam has slowly and patiently built his fitness and learned his race craft in the various levels leading to World Triathlon series and the Olympics. This journey has not been without its challenges of injury, illness, and disappointment. But as you will hear from Sam, each of these experiences have been valuable lessons which have helped him to build resilience, and ultimately to achieve what for many athletes is a lifetime goal: To represent their country at the Olympic Games. To find out more about Sam please visit his Instagram Channel samdickotri.   This is the first podcast we recorded back in 2018.   Sam's favourite book is Atomic Habits by James Clear - a book which I can highly recommend as well. Sam says it's “a great book about moulding your environment to help you reach desired outcomes." Clearly it has had a huge influence on Sam's career so far!   For chilling out, Sam likes to listen to 'The Rest is Politics' podcast.   **To get a free copy of my personal daily mobility routine, please click HERE** To contact Beth regarding Life Coaching, please visit her website at BethanyWardLifeCoaching.uk. S4E4 South Africa elections: worldviews in 'the West' vs 'the rest'

As South Africans head to the polls, Media Storm is seizing the opportunity to break out of the Western worldview. Last season, former UN Security Council President Kishore Mahbubani criticised the "arrogance" of the UK media and its failure to expose people in 'the West' to how 88% of the world's population see things differently to them. South Africa gives us some clues as to why. Their coverage of the raging conflict in Gaza paints a far more black-and-white narrative of events, condemning Israeli "apartheid" and "genocide" against Palestinians. Meanwhile, coverage of Russia's invasion of Ukraine muddies the stark solidarity expressed in Western media. We speak to South African Political Analyst Mpumelelo Mkhabela, comedian Tats Nkonzo, and South African former politician Andrew Feinstein about Israel-Palestine and Russia-Ukraine. And we hear from South Africans spanning classes, genders, races, ages to hear how their voting today – collectively, their testimonies tell us as much about our own democracies as theirs. He helps to deliver quality podcasts for new and established podcasters all over the world - from audio editing and music mixing to podcast mastering. We discuss the benefits of a podcast compared to other social media channels, and how it is such a good format to boost your external communications and engagement with your existing customers - and to attract new ones.Starting a podcast is relatively simple, when you know how, and is an exciting and different way to create content. It's a great communications tool for any size of business and if it is monetised with sponsors, etc, can also create a revenue stream.Phil King is a voice actor and podcast editor, so tells us what equipment is needed for a podcast and has lots of tips on what to consider, such as format and frequency of a podcast.I listen to lots of podcasts on a range of subjects and in different formats - from the magazine style of Auto Express, to celebrities such as Alan Carr's 'Life's a Beach' podcast, and the current number one podcast, 'The Rest is Politics' with Alastair Campbell and Rory Stewart discussing their views and insights on the world of politics and media. Some podcasts have been such a hit that they've spawned life stage and TV shows. Some are small and target every niche imaginable. But there are barely any podcasts in the caravan and motorhome sector in the UK at the moment, so there is a great opportunity for businesses to listen to this podcast, learn a lot, and, hopefully, be inspired to start podcasting.Topics discussedWhy start a podcast?Equipment needed to start a podcastPodcast formatPodcasts v. "THE REST OF MANKIND ... DID NOT REPENT ..." Dec 24 As we pondered the symbolic language of our Lord Jesus in his final message – a revelation given through his beloved disciple John - we were struck by the many different ways God has ultimately punished and destroyed those who have no time for him – often after a long period of grace looking to see in them a change of heart. There are two classes of people who suffer his punishment. First, those who claim to worship him, but are insincere or false in their worship and service. It can be said that they try to have the best of both ‘worlds.’ Second, there are those who have no time for God at all – especially those who have convinced themselves there is no God, no creator – that all that exists is the result of an incredible series of ‘accidents’ over endless ages. There is, of course, a small third group, those who are faithful, but who suffer at the hands of others, some of them become martyrs and we read of them yesterday in Rev. 6 v.9 Through the ages God has brought plagues upon both classes of people – we remember the plagues in Egypt in the days of Moses. The Egyptians surely had a memory of the blessings that the leadership of Joseph had brought to their nation! But human memories of good things always fade away – or become taken for granted. Is not this the spirit in the world today? As we read ch.9 of Revelation with its’ ‘pictures’ of destruction and reflected on its probable application to particular events through the ages we came to the final 2 verses which say, “The rest of mankind … did not repent of the works of their hands … nor did they repent of their murders or their sorceries or their sexual immorality or their thefts.” Any sense of repentance these days for disregarding God’s laws has now more or less vanished. These words are specially a warning to our generation.. We called to mind how Jesus read from the Isaiah scroll in the synagogue; he found the place where it was written (Ch.61 v.1,2) that his work would be “to proclaim the year (time) of the LORD’s favour” Then he stopped, but the next words of the scroll are “and the day of vengeance of our God” – and the world faces that ‘day’ now, for his return must be near., . Finally, the world has reached the predicted time (Matt. 24 v.14) when people of all nations can read God’s word and see its challenge to believe in God’s gospel – and its warnings of coming divine punishment on a godless world. Tomorrow we will read of both the tragedy – and the triumph - that come with the opening of the final seal. .
