Hello, and welcome to another episode of ALL IN Marketers want their target consumers to do things, but how strong is that Call to Action? You can create the best campaign, but if your Call-to-Action is not strong, it just falls flat. Call to action or CTA is the most important yet underutilized element in marketing. If you create an article, a blog, or a video, what do you want the reader/viewer to do after consuming it? The marketer provides an opportunity for the person to take up an offer of service, use a product, or get more information. 'Start today,' 'Call now,' are examples of powerful Call-to-action. It creates a sense of urgency in the consumer to act quickly. Test more action words, and utilize Call to Action's power so that you see results quickly! Today I'm gonna dive right in and share my best fitness marketing tools for sharing your message and saving time. When when that's what we're all.  I'm going to literally give you a meta description of what I'm doing right now. I mean, literally right now. So as I record, many of you who've been listening to this streak to help you market your fitness business journey This extremely strange and different time that we're in in the middle of July actually we're in the second half already third quarter if you want to look at it this way. My Podcast Streak And I'm doing a streak of 30 days, it's not comfortable some days like the day I actually would like to be walking or working out right now because I'm in an all day virtual conference for two days and doing a lot of sitting but you I made a promise to and I made a promise to myself, so I'm not gonna lie to either one of us or let me off the hook. so busy is busy. But you know what we want our clients to exercise don't wait even when they're busy. We want them to make use of that 10 or that 20 minutes and show them they can do it they do have time and they do have energy and even that little can get them result. So it is with you. Best Fitness Marketing Tools in Action You take 10 minutes every single day to market get better at marketing. Learn. skills of marketing, you will become a better marketer. So if you avoid it, you hate sales or you say that number one thing you need to do, stop saying that, that'll save you a little time. Okay, here's what I'm doing. Literally as I do this, I am using a platform to record my podcast called Zen caster that's ZN ca St. r.com. You can record an audio, they suddenly recently have a beta video option rolling out. And I would suggest that if you're looking at starting a podcast, that you look at video, because video is something you can use everywhere. Audio or Text So not only can you pull out the audio, only somebody can take you for a walk and not have to be watching. Let's face it, it's head and shoulders. What are you going to do, right? But you can also place that interview on YouTube and You know, even though I have taken this podcast, and my other flipping 50 podcasts, also to YouTube automatically for years going on nine years for this podcast going on eight years for that one. It's a static image. It's the cover of my podcast because it's only audio. And once I got people over the hump on the flipping 50 channel, and they all wondered, why wasn't the video working and realized it was because there is no video, you have to understand my women are between 45 and 65. And so they're not at all attuned to the fact that most podcasts were audio only when I started eight years ago. But also I have to be in tune to the fact that when it's on YouTube, they expect it to be video. That is the reason I've actually removed in the last week in fact, I've removed my podcasts from automatically loading to YouTube.  What is Zencastr? You need somewhere to record your either solo, you doing it in monologue or your interview, having a dialogue with someone else. You need a platform where you can do that and know that the quality of your recording is good. Now I've done tele conferencing. I've coached using a conference line for 10 years, maybe more, actually. Sometimes I will have someone who simply doesn't understand or who can't get on to Chrome browser, get their micro microphone all hooked up and get on Zen caster and it's just a little overwhelming. So what we do often instead is abandon ship and we use a teleconference and the quality of that recording is poor. Conference Lines It's just not as good even if I take it to somebody and have them doctored up to a freelancer who does post production and works on the sound quality, you can't overcome what's the saying you can't make chicken salad out of chicken. You know what? Yeah, similar lace. So you want ideally a high quality recording first, because that can be slightly improved in post production, but here's why I love Zen caster. Listen, I'm not tech savvy. Act Fast to Implement the Best Fitness Marketing Tools I learned all these things the hard way and I fortunately for me, I am a quick start, which means I make a lot of mistakes because I jumped And I do it first. And I know I live by done is better than perfect. And a lot of times for entrepreneurs who are successful, that's absolutely the way they operate. So for me, it's it was more DNA and genetic it wasn't a conscious choice that I'm going to be this way because I want to be successful. It just is so lucky for me. But, you know, what I found is Zen caster does all of the post production and the advantage of Zen caster is I send a guest, a link, if I'm interviewing somebody, and I've done two people, I've interviewed two people at the same time. And so there's three of us on and that will work to or I record even solo here as opposed to just recording in GarageBand, which personally I don't like and or recording on quick time which isn't as high of quality but I Done that as well. But this is the best because what happens is it automatically records on my computer. Guests If I've got guests, there's records on their computer. So if we have any internet problems during the podcast, and I can't hear them clearly or it seems like it cuts out, if I can just patiently listen and get enough of it to make a legitimate response and next comment, then I just hold on to that because in post production, what happens with Zen caster behind the curtain if you will, is they take their recording, which is optimized on their computer mine optimized on my computer and meshes them together so that it's clear from both sides. So unless you have some real issues with noise and you know somebody is finger Hitting the microphone or the microphone is hitting their zipper, that's not going to go away. But if it's quality and problem with internet, as long as you can hear and gather enough of the information, then in post production when you hit that it's all taking care of what happens for me. High or Low Service You can set this up to is simply you click post production, you take both of those recordings, and then you leave and they let you know when that is automatically dropped into your Dropbox. So from there, what I'll do is take it to either a tech team, and they will do the addition of adding music over my intro and my outro if I want to sometimes like right now, I'm doing this in real time practically so I'm recording it right now. I'm going to load it up right now. I don't have time to do the extras. So I'm just doing the bare minimum because done is better than Perfect, and I want to get the message out and whether it's all dialed up, dialed up and accessorized with music on the intro now Pro is less important to me than I give you steps and tools and actions you can take right now, that's not true all the time. But it is certainly today. And for me more often than not if I have an important message to share. Upgrade So, you can also take the next step and there will be say a $3 tard for every hour of time that you have. So if you have really short podcasts, the free version of Zen caster will serve you very well as you need to you can buy that time and you you don't pay for more than you will use and you can also opt for going pro and Zen caster where you can pre record your introduction with music and then just drop that in yourself and Take care of the editing. There is no more middleman, you just done it. Now you might have a team who wants to do that for you work in. In my case, right now we're in COVID. I'm cutting out all extra curricular costs and fees. So anything I don't need any subscriptions I've had, or you know, don't use on a regular basis. I mean, they're gone. Keep the Budget in Mind I'm not using them and being smart about what do I absolutely have to have to run my business? and What don't I and this is one of the things where I can still spend maybe 10 more minutes editing my own podcasts as opposed to sending it off and then waiting right for a day for them to get back to me as they can. So that's Zen caster.com. The other tool you're going to need if you decide you want to do a podcast is something where you can transcribe or think about it the way I do. You want When you post a podcast, you want the show notes, almost like a script. But really just a summary of here's the questions we answered in this podcast. Here's the main takeaways.  My Process So, I will occasionally I will write out blogs, I'm a writer, so I prefer to do it this way. And I'll write blogs on topics that I know are important. They're in response to what my customers and clients are talking about at the moment. And I will decide, should this be simply a blog with illustrations and infographics Fix or photographs? Or is this one better for me to talk through in voice, but then I've already got the show notes.   I actually can just condense them or load the whole thing up. And the combination, you always want show notes. So if you don't write the blog first and then decide and essentially read that, or use it as a script, when you're recording, you can do what else I'm doing now. Now, honestly, I don't do this very often. But I'm doing it today because I'm in a virtual conference all day today, in about three and a half hours or two and a half, actually, wow, I gotta get going. Work Made Easy So what I'm doing is talking this show on Zen caster while I'm working According and I simultaneously hit record on otter, and I'll put the link to otter but otter have talked about it's for transcription. So as I record, it's coming. Pretty darn close to getting my word for word script out on paper. So what I'm going to do next is I'll click when it tells me the note is ready. So think about that in advance because that may change how you promote. Okay, a couple others that I want to mention that I've already used this morning, and it's only 8:30am on a Saturday morning canva.com. So I've talked about this one as well, but this I would get the free version and then think about how easy it is. And once you've used it for a very short time, I would consider getting the business version. I think gets about $115 annually. But if you do any posting on Instagram especially that is based on graphics on visuals and then being sharp and clean and crisp in it, and you're not great at it, then get Canva so you use it, you can use it for almost anything. I'm using it for just about everything. I've used it this month already twice for creating presentations. I mean literally, it's replaced my use of PowerPoint. I love the color. Why Canva Makes the Best Fitness Marketing Tools I love the design. I love the flexibility of it. I've used it for creating handouts for webinars where the slides I've used were from Canva and I've used it for Facebook covers, Facebook posts, Instagram posts, you name it infographics, you can create in with invitations and cards. There's just about nothing you can't do. If it's a graphic you need, you can create it. Transcribe Meeting Notes You can record the notes in in your otter. So if you ever we ever we will, I hope sit around the conference room table again. Rather than rely on somebody to take notes and record them in their own voice 21:17 and interpret them in their own voice, use order, and then transcribe them and send them to everybody because you will get exactly what was said without tone of voice. And although somebody will read him with your tone of voice, their own tone of voice in them, not the tone of voice that it was said with, you could also simply use the audio recording, which would be almost better and they could listen to it, you know, on the fly. Use Them Right Now So think about those tools Canva and otter you could use right now Zen caster and Lipson if you're thinking about a podcast, and I hope you are, there you have it. Those are the tools, I recommend that you Get started with today if you've got other tools that you love, I'd love for you to share them below the show notes. And you can find show notes today at Fitness Marketing Mastery. com forward slash best fitness marketing tools. There you have it. What are you waiting for? Get busy on those graphics. 4 Steps To Regaining Your Lost Momentum In the week's episode, I discuss why it's 100% normal that you have lost momentum. Plus, I give you a proven four-step strategy for creating positive momentum. You're going to love it. First, let's touch on the four common reasons people lose momentum. 1. Broken Promises: Breaking promises to yourself destroys self-belief and builds negative momentum Chapter 8 of The Overweight Mind is titled "What You Do In The Dark" ~ What you do when no-one is watching either builds or destroys momentum. 2. Lack of Accountability: Who will ever know? You WILL and truth be told that is all that matters because that is what destroys your belief that the process will work. 3. You Don't Believe In Yourself: You've broken promises to yourself so many times that you no longer believe your on BS. 4. It's Too Hard: You have convinced yourself it will be hard, and humans avoid things that we perceive as difficult or hard. Now onto the four-step strategy. 4 Steps To Creating Positive Momentum: 1. Public Declaration: You need to tell everyone, and I mean everyone what you are doing. The more people you tell what you're doing, the less likely you will be to quit. 2. Accountability: This can't be your friends. Your friends are just as lazy and unmotivated as you are. Let's face it. We are who we hang around. If your friends were strong enough to motivate, inspire, or lead you, they would have already done it, and you wouldn't be where you are. 3. The Decision: Decided you're with it! 4. Action: You must take simple and consistent actions that build positive momentum. When you defer action, the likelihood of you actually doing what you said you were going to do drops by 87.36% because you stay on the someday hamster wheel. I" ll start tomorrow, I'll start after July 4th, I'll begin after my vacation, I'll start after C19 ends, and the truth is you won't. START NOW. It’s up to you whether or not it’s just a moment or if it is a life defining moment. My life defining moment came when I was just sitting at work and made an observation that my sister could do my job. It could have been just a throwaway moment, but in really taking the time to think about it, it changed my perspective on my life. It was a life defining moment, because that is when I realized I was making decisions based on others. That is when I started to take charge back of my own life. That is why reflecting on moments is important. You never know when it could go from a regular moment to a life defining one. Affirmations: You are Awesome. You are Loved. You are Needed. In this episode, Daniel Fava talks about five things you can do with your website to attract more clients to your private practice. You can take bits and pieces from each tip and dive deep into your site content. Daniel says the first thing you will want to do is to be specific with your goals. Have you been able to identify your ideal client? Stay tuned to hear Daniel dive deep into each of his five tips. Meet Daniel Fava Daniel Fava is a father, husband, podcaster, website consultant and founder of Create My Therapist Website and Private Practice Elevation. He helps therapists create websites and attract more clients online. After building a website for his wife's private practice and seeing the impact it had on her business, he became passionate about helping others achieve the same. Daniel offers web design services, SEO services, consultations, and online training to help therapists grow their business through online marketing. You can get free access to his library of PDFs, cheatsheets, and ebooks by clicking here. 1. Be Specific With Your Goals Everybody has goals for their practice, but how does it pertain to your ideal client? If you want to attract ten new clients, what would those clients look like? Find out who the people are that you enjoy working with. After identifying your ideal client, you can look at your website through the eyes of your client. Are the images, words, and content speaking to that type of client? Once you do this, you can finally get specific with your content. 2. Ask Your Website Visitors to Take an Action You need a call to action on your website. Therapists are great at filling their websites with a lot of information. However, they may never tell their visitors actually to do anything. Daniel says you need to ask your visitors for their information. Daniel likes a specific and engaging call to action on each page. What is the next step that someone can take in order to work with you? For instance, you can have a free fifteen-minute phone consultation. On every page, there should be something that explains that step. Conversion rates are usually low on popups, be patient with your rates. 3. Make Sure Your Website is on Google Is your website indexed on Google? Put quality stuff on your website; Google will pick up on it. Think about your audience and who you are trying to attract to your site. Daniel says to think about the keywords that you want to rank for. Check out the first few websites that are listed on Google for those keywords and find out what kind of content they are putting out. 4. Get Your Content Shared When you create a blog post, you want to make it high-quality and give people a reason to share your content and come back to your website. Think about your ideal clients and the challenges they face. What are some ways you can help them out and create a win for their life? Blogging is also an essential way to get your ranking up. 5. Measure What You're Doing It's hard to grow something that you're not measuring. What does your Google Analytics say? If you're not tracking how many people are going to your website, how will you know what the problem is? Google Analytics is free to set up with your website. Even if you're not planning on looking at it, have it going, so it's collecting that information. Eventually, it will come in handy. Shame is the thought "I am bad," while guilt is the thought "I did something bad." Anxiety is the fear of what will happen in the future. There is a huge difference and knowing which negative emotion you are feeling is key in remedying the trigger. Keys to remember and use when you feel triggered or are coming out of a trigger & action moment: You are only responsible for your actionYou are not responsible for someone else's reaction, response, or actions. You can influence their actions but you are not responsible for them. STEM: Stop, Think, Evaluate, and Move Evaluate what you did and ask yourself: why did I do it what was the driver behind my actions how can I behave, act, and respond in a better way next time what if a similar situation shows itself what will I do then? what will be my driver then? Five steps to handle and overcome shame, anxiety, and other negative emotions: 1. Bring shame (negative emotions) into the light. 2. Untangle what you are feeling. 3. Unhitch what you do from who you are. 4. Recognize your triggers. 5. Make connections. Have you found yourself in a revenue crunch with your business? Generating revenue - fast - is your first priority, but how can you do that when your marketing budget is small or nonexistent. At one time or another, every business owner has stumbled across this same challenge. The challenge being, how do you boost revenue when you have none to spend? Making money doesn't always take money. These 4 Bootstrapping Marketing Ideas will help you to boost revenue, fast. Bootstrap Marketing Tip #1: Reach Out To Past Clients We've all heard the business adage: attaining the business of new clients far outweighs the cost (expenses, time, and effort) of attaining repeat business of existing clients. Reaching out to past clients via phone or email is one of the fastest ways to boost revenue easily. Action: Pick up the phone. Call your past clients and remind them you are here to help them in whatever way you can. You don't need to hard-sell…just extend a genuine offer of service that you think will benefit them in their business and/or life. Bootstrap Marketing Tip #2: Create a Solution This is the time to get back to the basics: How can you solve your clients' problem(s)? Identify their biggest point of pain or challenge - and create a solution. Bootstrap Marketing Tip #3: Everyone Loves a Sale Everyone loves to save money; to feel like they are receiving even more value than what they are spending. To boost revenue, offer a 10% - 20% discount on services or programs, while offering deeper discounts (25% - 50%) on passive income items like products. Action: When designed properly, sales will not sacrifice your profits. Generally speaking, offer minimal or moderate discounts (10% - 20%) on high-cost items like services and programs, while offering deeper discounts (25% - 50%) on passive income items like books, ebooks and other strictly passive income items. Make sure to have the sale for a specific period of time to get people to act quickly to get the ‘deal' before it ends. Bootstrap Marketing Tip #4: Leverage Free Networking Resources Of all business challenges, leveraging the right resources at the right time is an endless refining process. Action: You never know where your next client will come from. Instead of worrying about being “sales-y” to the people in your personal life, approach connections with people as an opportunity to be of service. Genuinely engage in conversations without being pushy. Find out how you can help them - and be a good listener. Take the “sale” out of it…build the relationship first. Relationships are key to a successful business... Remember, you don't always have to spend money to make money. There are thousands of ways you can market your services without spending a dime - these are just a few examples. Above all, keep in mind that marketing is a 24/7, 365 days per year part of running your own business. One of the biggest mistakes business owners make is stopping the marketing process once they find clients. The key must be to market continually, even when you have clients, so you don't find yourself backed into a corner, so to speak. You are as much a marketer, as you are a business owner. You must get over being shy or reluctant about talking about your business. Get off the ‘rollercoaster ride' and smooth out your revenue stream so it is a consistent incoming flow of ‘green.' Have you found yourself in a revenue crunch with your business? Generating revenue - fast - is your first priority, but how can you do that when your marketing budget is small or nonexistent. At one time or another, every business owner has stumbled across this same challenge. The challenge being, how do you boost revenue when you have none to spend? Making money doesn’t always take money. These 4 Bootstrapping Marketing Ideas will help you to boost revenue, fast. Bootstrap Marketing Tip #1: Reach Out To Past Clients We’ve all heard the business adage: attaining the business of new clients far outweighs the cost (expenses, time, and effort) of attaining repeat business of existing clients. Reaching out to past clients via phone or email is one of the fastest ways to boost revenue easily. Action: Pick up the phone. Call your past clients and remind them you are here to help them in whatever way you can. You don’t need to hard-sell…just extend a genuine offer of service that you think will benefit them in their business and/or life. Bootstrap Marketing Tip #2: Create a Solution This is the time to get back to the basics: How can you solve your clients’ problem(s)? Make sure to have the sale for a specific period of time to get people to act quickly to get the ‘deal’ before it ends. Remember, you don’t always have to spend money to make money. There are thousands of ways you can market your services without spending a dime - these are just a few examples. Above all, keep in mind that marketing is a 24/7, 365 days per year part of running your own business. One of the biggest mistakes business owners make is stopping the marketing process once they find clients. The key must be to market continually, even when you have clients, so you don’t find yourself backed into a corner, so to speak. You are as much a marketer, as you are a business owner. You must get over being shy or reluctant about talking about your business. Get off the ‘rollercoaster ride’ and smooth out your revenue stream so it is a consistent incoming flow of ‘green.’ My hope for our time together is that you got value and an idea or two that will help you be even more successful – personally and professionally. Grow Your Business by Learning How to Speak Confidently About It With Felicia Slattery

Real Fast Results for Marketing, Business and Entrepreneurs

Our promise today is we are going to talk about, "What you should talk about."  You know so much stuff in your head, and you know so many things in your business. We want you, at a moment's notice, to be able to have a conversation with anyone who connects to your audience that you can benefit from, that you can build your list from, that you could make money from, very quickly and very easily.  That's what I have to talk about. Benefits of Being Able to Speak Confidently About Your Business Obviously, there's the tangible number of leads that you can get and the amount of cash that you can make.  That's obvious.  To me, the biggest benefit is the confidence and the calm that comes with knowing that you know your stuff, and you're going to know the answer.  You're going to know what to say. We hear all the time that public speaking is the #1 fear of a lot of people.  We don't dig deep to find out why, and the biggest reason is that people aren't sure what they are going to say or how they're going to say it.  So, when you already know, in your head, what you're going to say and how you're going to say it, you just have this confidence that is about you.  So, someone is in a pinch. A meeting planner is in a pinch, and you are at a meeting, and they're like, "Oh, we thought someone was going to be here, and they're not here.  What do we do?  Daniel, can you talk?"  You can be like, "Sure I can," and you're ready and good to go. To be clear, I wrote a book called Kill the Elevator Speech: Stop Selling, Start Connecting.  So, what I don't want you to do is I don't want you to memorize an answer to, "What do you do?"  We need to know who we are, what the kind of work we do is, and the kind of people that we help, and what the results are. That's kind of an easy no-brainer.  That's another kind of conversation that, I'm meeting you for the first time, we're shaking hands and saying hello. Really, what we're looking at is an opportunity for you to connect with a group of people, whether that is, a podcast situation, a video situation, a media situation, on stage, whatever that case may be. "Hey, I'm going to put you in front of some people.  Let's talk."  What are you going to say?  How are you going to say it?  Where are we going to go? That's where we are going with this, and to me, what we're looking at is knowing, on a head level and actually at a heart level, what are you about?  What are your steps?  What are the pieces, or the parts, or the things that you can really offer, which #1 for you, make you stand out, and be different, and be unique, be interesting?  Number 2, what's going to benefit the audience?  So, those are the big overlying principles that we're looking at.  Those are the kinds of things that are going to make you look good, benefit you, and also provide value. Sharing Two Sides of Your Business There are two sides to what we want to share.  The first side is the personal side, the "who you are" stuff.  That's how people connect with others.  The kind of businesses that we're building are personality-based businesses, for the most part.  We're authors, we're speakers, we're coaches, we're consultants, we're experts in some shape or form.  We're sharing ourselves and the information that we share.  S o, people want both of those.  They want to know, "Okay, so who is this person?"  The second side is the information that we sell.  That product, that service, whatever "that" is. Those are the two pieces, and that's what I want you to be thinking about as we're going through this process.  So, personal bits and professional bits.  Have these, both pieces, ready to go, and be able to share those kinds of things. So, that's where we're going to start.  Let's talk about the person first. That may sound like a weird place to start, but it's actually not because, again, this is what's going to make you stand out.  Why?  Well, are there other people in the world teaching what you're teaching?  Here's the actual answer, "I hope so because if there's not, there's probably not any money to be made in your area."  I'm just saying.  Go into a market where it's proven. Now, what's going to make you stand out from everyone else?  Is there a right way to do what you talk about? Probably.  Well then, there's other people teaching the same kind of steps and the same kind of methods.  It's not necessarily the professional content that's going to make you stand out.  For example, I teach people about speaking, and there's a right way to start a speech and a really bad way to start a speech.  You know, there's a handful of ways.  So, anybody that teaches this stuff knows the handful of ways.  There's a right way to end a speech.  How am I going to stand out from somebody else?  I'm going to stand out over here with who I am and what I'm about.  And, that's going to be the same for you. People are going to be attracted to you, and your message, and YOU.  Your person.  You're the reason why people will buy that professional content, because of YOU.  So, let's talk about your personal self and think about a couple of different things.  I like to put it in the context of storytelling. Think about some of those stories, in your life, that you can, what I call, make a turn toward.  Something that happened in your life where people go, "Oh my gosh!  Really, that happened?  That's interesting," or "That's cool," or "That's scary," or whatever.  Then, they connect to that, and you go, "So, now that I've told this story, here's why it matters to you." Professional Story A great example is, back in 2008, I had been running my own business from home, and things were okay.  I had to learn to use the Internet in 2006 because I wanted to be home with my babies, who were 1 and 3 at the time.  So, I was doing okay and making a little bit of money, doing some coaching and that kind of thing, and then I went to my first internet marketing event.  I was sitting in the audience, and again, this was my first event so nobody knew who I was, and I didn't really know any of these people. I wasn't really in the internet marketing world at the time, and I was sitting and taking all kinds of notes, and it was great.  And then, there came a portion of the event when there were a couple of speakers, both talking about Google.  One was talking about Google Adsense, and one was talking about Google AdWords, which are kind of two sides of the same coin. But, they were having some technical difficulties, like the video wasn't working or the audio wasn't working, and they wanted to record the session.  They said, "We're going to figure this out.  While we do that, we'll bring up the speakers," so all of the speakers were now standing on the stage.  Not just these two, but a bunch of people.  All of the speakers for the whole event are standing there, and they're saying, "Hey, we'll take your questions." I was like, "Ooh, this is really cool."  I was ready to take notes and everything.  People are raising hands and asking questions.  Somebody raised their hand, and she said, "How can I be more credible on the Internet?"  And, I had been speaking because, again, that's what I do.  I had been delivering a speech called "Credibility and Cash Flow" for the last year and a half.  I thought, "It's going to be really interesting to hear what these really smart speakers are going to have to say about it at this event."  As they spoke, I was like, "None of them really have the answer."  Why?  Because credibility and cash flow wasn't their thing.  So, they could answer it okay, but that was something that I knew. It was informal, and they were still struggling with the tech stuff, and it was a small enough room, maybe with a couple of hundred people.  So, I felt kind of comfortable, like half sheepishly raising my hand. Nobody knows me at this point.  I said, "I could speak to that," and they said, "Oh great!  Come on up," and then somebody handed me a microphone.  "Well, hello!  Felicia has a microphone!  Look out!"  And, I gave about 2-3 minutes of my 30-minute signature speech, "Credibility and Cash Flow". People are taking notes, and everybody is on the edge of their seats like, "Wow!  This is really good stuff."  And, at the end of that, I looked down the line, and maybe you remember the cartoons when we were growing up, when we were kids, and there would be one head over another over another in a doorway; that's kind of what I saw when I looked down the line.  I had one microphone, and all of the speakers, I was standing up next to them at that point, and one of the other speakers, New York Times bestselling author, he goes, "And, who are you again?"  I was like, "I'm Felicia Slattery." So, what did I just do?  A couple of things.  Number 1, I shared with you a story about who I am and what I'm about.  At this point, you have no question in your mind that I'm not afraid to get on a stage, right?  So, now  you know a little bit about me, but I also shared (it's kind of a share within a share) that I had content ready.  I had been delivering this speech, at that point, for over a year, which for me is forever.  That's just a long time to be talking about the same thing.  By the way, 10 years later, I'm still talking about the same thing because people want to know. I know this stuff inside and out, so when someone raised their hand and said, "Well, hey, I need to know this."  I knew I could provide value.  From that, my entire business changed.  From just being willing to raise my hand and go, "Hey, I can speak to that," within three weeks I was on the #1 internet marketing podcast in the country at the time.  I was invited to be on stages all across the country.  I was invited to do guest blog posts, which was a huge thing at the time.  It was like, suddenly all of this changed.  My list grew exponentially, I started making all kinds of money, I had people wanting to be my affiliate, and I was like, "What's an affiliate program?"  I didn't even know.  "I'll get one of those, I guess." It was so fun. What I'm asking you to do is think about, "What kind of story can you tell?"  Now, I want you to break your stories into two pieces.  That, for me, that was a professional story I just told.  You want an example of you, showing who you are as a work person, like I just shared.  The other story that I want you to have in mind, that you're going to share with people, is a personal story.  Again, it can be anything, but you want it to be something that you can then, kind of doing what I'm doing here.  Unpack a little bit for the audience and say, "Why did we just tell that story?  What's that about?"  And, I'll demonstrate because sometimes that's a little bit easier. Personal Story It was just about four years ago that I was diagnosed with non-smoking related lung cancer.  I'm here.  I'm doing great.  Yay!  And totally healthy and fantastic, and I'd like to talk about how I experienced a miracle during that time.  What happened was, I was diagnosed with a particular kind of lung cancer.  There are three kinds, if you don't know about this.  I know way more than I ever wanted to know.  There's large cell, small cell, and then this weird third kind that no one has ever heard of.  I was diagnosed with small cell non-smoking related lung cancer from a biopsy.  They had tissue, and because I had been doing what I do...I speak and do podcasts, and webinars, and all kinds of stuff all of the time, I had built up a sizable list and following between social media and my lists. So, the night before my surgery, I sent out an email and I said, "If you're the praying kind, please pray.  If you're the visualizing kind, please visualize.  If you're the energy kind, I need all of the good vibes I can get.  Whatever... please send it.  I'll take it.  I'm having this surgery tomorrow, and I'm scared."  The next day I had surgery, and when I got out of the surgery, my doctor said, "I know we had seen what we saw.  It was the small cell.  But when we were in there, and we got a bigger piece... We got the rest of everything out, it was this weird third kind..." This weird third kind is called mucoepidermoid, a weird medical name, and Harvard University, over 20 years, had only had 12 cases of this.  Of the 12 documented cases, it never spread, it never came back, and nobody ever died.  And, that's the miracle that I experienced in my life. It was a scary time.  I mean, I couldn't speak.  Ha ha... That's a whole other story.  I couldn't speak for three months. They had to remove a big chunk of my lung.  My brain was looking for that chunk of my lung and saying, "Oh, we don't see it. Ah, you can't breathe."  So, my breath would stop because my brain didn't think that I could breath.  There were three months when I was like, "If I can't speak... [gasp]... what am I going to do for a... [gasp]... living?  Do I need to find a new... [gasp]... line of work?"  They're like, "It'll be fine."  Darn it, if it wasn't cardio exercise that got me back.  My husband was like, "I told you so."  He's a personal trainer. So, anyway... What was that?  That was a personal story.  Now, I'm going to tie that personal story back into work.  How did I get to experience that miracle?  Well, I experienced that miracle, number 1, because of my faith.  That's my personal piece, but also because I had built up this community of people who were listening to what I had to say, who were reading my emails, who were reading my social media posts, and they liked me.  Remember, we talked about this at the beginning.  You've got your personal, and you've got your professional. If all I was about all of the time was doing public speaking and that was it, and didn't connect with people, I don't know what the outcome would have been.  But, what I do know is that I received email replies from literally around the world, and in multiple languages and in broken English [saying], "I'm praying for you, and I hope you're okay."  And, it was amazing.  That was because I had taken that time. You know, you hear about building your list. Well, I think of my list as individual human being people, and that's how I like to talk to them, and that's how I treat them.  That's, then, how they treated me, and they helped me have a miracle. Now, there's my story.  That was a personal story.  I had cancer; that's a personal story.  I related it to work, and I'm going to relate it to you.  If you're not building your list, and building your tribe, and sharing who you are, you're making a huge mistake in your business.  Why?  Because there are business reasons to do that, and there are going to be personal reasons, that you don't even know of, later.  You don't even know. I have multiple stories I could go on about, but like, all kinds of reasons why you want to be sharing who you are with your people.  So, a personal story and a professional story that rolls off of your tongue, the way that I just shared those stories with you.  It's clear that I've told them before.  I want you to practice your stories, your personal stories, your professional stories, so that you can connect with people also. Using Stories to Build Your Business  What you want to do is think of a way, "How can I tie this personal stuff into this work stuff?"  So, for me, I tie my personal stuff into my work stuff by saying, "Okay so, how did I connect with people?  How did I build my list?  How did that miracle happen in my life?  Well, it was through speaking.  It was through connecting with people from the stage.  I'm going to show you how.  Here are some ways that you can connect with people from the stage," and then I would share some content about connecting from the stage.  You tie your personal in with your professional, and then share some steps about exactly how to do that. When you're thinking about, "What are the kinds of steps that I should share," these should be things that you're going to know off the top of your head because you say them all the time.  Maybe, think about the most frequently asked questions that you get in your business.  When you say, "I am a..." or "I do this," or "I have a book called that," or "I have a training that does this," and they want to know stuff.  What are those three, maybe four, and no more than five, most frequently asked questions that you get, that you can then speak to right away? I'm telling you now, from years of experience doing interviews like this, and podcasts, and being on stage, and even media interviews.  There's not a question that somebody's going to come up with when they are first meeting you, first introducing you, that you're going to be stumped by, if you've thought through these 3-5 frequently asked questions.  Because, everyone wants to know the same thing, so they're going to ask you that.  Know your answers.  It's pretty simple. When I share that story about being able to jump up on stage with that group of people, and actually the miracle story because what I talk about spoke to a lot of audiences and that's how I did it... One of the things that people say all of the time is, "Oh my gosh!  I'm so scared to speak.  I don't think I could ever do that." How does someone get past being scared to speak?  Ding!  There's my question.  How does someone get past being scared to speak?  I know the answer to that, and so, I [say], "You know, there's three things that you can do..."  Practice and visualize, those are the two biggest things.  The third is "expect it".  Know you're going to be nervous and deal with it. Then, I have steps.  "Well, how do you do that?"  How do you visualize, and what does that look like?  How do you practice, and what does that look like?  If I have 30 seconds, I'm going to say, "Visualize, practice, and expect that it's coming and deal with it."  If I have three hours, I'm going to spend an hour on each one of those.  See?  Easy. So, if you break things into numbers that you know... three things... two things... the #1 secret of... five things... Don't go above five because it starts to get hard to remember.  Unless they are very specific steps that you could totally do in your sleep, anything above five, that's okay.  But, otherwise you'll be like, "I don't remember the sixth one.  What was it again?"  That does the opposite; you don't want that. So, no more than five.  Three is an easy number.  And then, sometimes it helps to have the #1 secret, or the #1 tip, or whatever, like that because people will ask you.  Here's another one that you'll get asked a lot.  What's your favorite quotation?  If you don't have a favorite quotation already, then think of one that you like and have that in your head, whatever it happens to be.  I love lots of quotations, so I will use a different quotation for different reasons, depending on what they happen to be. Sometimes you get asked that question at weird, random times.  For me, I didn't even expect that it was coming... Back when Twitter was a brand new thing, I would do like 50 quotations a day, just tweeting out stuff. Motivational stuff, because it was fun and I loved it, and it was copy and paste, so I mean, how hard was that?  That's how you build your following is, you give people what they were interested in, and my people were interested in that. So, I would have like 15 come to mind, and all of them try to get out of my mouth at the same time.  It didn't work; so now I've got a couple that I fall back on, depending on what the circumstances are.  Think about that for yourself as well.  That's like a little bonus tip.  What could be a famous quotation that you could share? Call to Action You know, I think the final step is that you've got to tell people what you want them to do next.  You've got to have a call to action.  Now they know you, now they know your stuff, so now what?  What do you want them to do?  Do you want them to go to a website?  Do you want them to read a blog post?  Maybe you've got a re-targeting campaign set up?  So, anyone that hit your blog post, that you've got out there for free, you're going to be re-targeting them for the next 180 days.  Hallelujah!  Thank you Facebook!  They don't even have to opt in.  You're just going to follow them around.  Not that I know anything about that... Or, maybe you do want them to opt into something. Maybe you want them to go buy your book, or maybe you want them to download your free Kindle book.  Maybe you want them to subscribe to your podcast.  Maybe you want them to subscribe to your YouTube channel. Whatever you're working on at the moment. By the way, your call to action can change depending on what you're working on at the moment.  It doesn't matter what your call to action is, it just has to be something.  You just want them to go somewhere because if they liked you, and they thought your stuff was good, now give them more.  What's next? Give people their marching orders.  That's another thing.  In the business world, people want a leader.  They want to follow a leader because they don't have the time to figure out a lot of this good stuff themselves.  They are busy doing what they're doing.  If they identify you as an authentic leader, someone that's genuine and somebody that they trust, such as when you do make a call to action, when you do have them do something, or ask that they do something, not all of them are going to do it. However, there's going to be a percentage of those people who resonate with you and your story that will actually take the action.  Those are the cream of the crop people.  Those are the people who you really want to be doing business with anyway. Why are those the people who you want to be doing business with anyway?  It's because, 1), they made a decision, and 2) they took an action.  So, they didn't just decide, "This is good stuff, I'm going to have to go get that later."  They did it right now.  You know this, if you've worked with anybody.  The greatest joy they get is when they come to us and say, "What should I do," and then they go do it and get their results.  They're like, "Hallelujah!"  Then, they go off and do their thing.  We want those people who have made that commitment and taken that action, however small it may be.  It doesn't necessarily have to have purchased a product.  Just going to like the Real Fast Results podcast would be an action they could take. The Secret of How To Get Clients To Keep Coming Back Repeatedly - Part One

Most of us are like crazy chickens, focused solely on attraction and conversion. They fail to see the biggest resource in our business—returning clients. If you're able to keep your existing clients and they buy everything in sight, you may never need new clients again. But what magic spell would cause them to buy everything in sight? Incredibly, the answer is "feedback". Wait, not testimonials—feedback. Feedback is that ugly sound of "complaint". It's screechy and seemingly yucky. But we're not just aiming for a bit of feedback, but feedback that's 1500 words or more. Yup, how do you get a mountain of the "yucky stuff?" Let's find out why you need to get deep into the world of feedback. And put your Teflon suit on. You're going to need it. Join us as we explore Part 1: How do you get feedback? And when do you get feedback? Part 2: Why safety plays a big role in feedback Part 3: How to copy with feedback =========== I’d been driving for about 5 years before I got to Auckland, New Zealand When we moved here, however, my Indian driving license wasn’t valid and I had to sit for both the written and driving test. And I failed the first driving test within minutes. We barely got on the road, and down a slope when the assessor failed me. Ten minutes later, we were back where we started. As you’d expect, I was perplexed and wanted to know what I’d done wrong. He wouldn’t tell me. “I’m not supposed to tell you what you’ve done wrong,” he said brusquely. “You’re supposed to drive correctly and when you make an error, I note the error and fail you, if necessary. And you’ve failed this test.” This is often how we feel when clients won’t give us feedback on our products, services or courses. But whose fault is it? Is it the client’s fault or ours? In most cases, we’re at fault, and this is because of a primary reason. We fail to figure out the difference between testimonials and feedback. We use the words interchangeably, and it gives the client the feeling they’re supposed to praise you all the time. Praise is hard, because you want to reserve it for special occasions and anyway a constant stream of praise feels worthless. So the first task is to separate the concept of testimonials from feedback. The client should know clearly—and unequivocally—that they’re not praising you, but giving you feedback. Then, they should know that you’re going to do something with the feedback. So how do you get feedback? And when do you get feedback? Let’s take a look at three main areas of feedback and see how we can ensure we get the feedback that we need. The three areas are: 1) The safety issue—and reward issue 2) The implementation issue 3) The specificity of your questions 1) Let’s start off with the safety—and reward There’s a video online called “Austin’s Butterfly”. It shows a group of very young children appraising the work of one of their classmates. Austin, who’s probably in first grade, and has just drawn a butterfly. There’s only one problem. The Tiger Swallowtail butterfly looks amateurish and the kids know it. At that tender age, they’re not about to let Austin get away with such a terrible piece of art. Then something quite amazing happens. The teacher takes over and asks the kids to give feedback. One by one they pipe up, with their critiques, so Austin can take a crack at the second draft. They point to the angles, the wings, making the wings of the butterfly more pointy. They go on, and on, and the illustration improves with every draft. Six drafts later, the butterfly looks like something you’d find in a science book. The finished butterfly is so stunning that anyone—you, me, anyone—would be proud to call the illustration our own. And yet this article isn’t about whether we can draw butterflies or not, is it? Instead it’s about safety. The reason why those kids walked Austin through every one of those five subsequent drafts, is because they felt safe. So what made them feel safe? And how do you get your clients to feel safe? Incredibly that safety didn’t start on the day of the Austin butterfly demonstration. It started long before the teacher walked into the room. Safety needs to be created miles before you get to your destination. So what do we do on Psychotactics? Notice the “What Bugs Me” on every page of the website? That “bug” is designed to create safety. Yet, you’ve seen organizations ask for feedback before. Why does that bug bring in over 200 clients writing to us every single year (that’s about 2500 bugs since we started). The answer lies in the statement that accompanies the bug. The statement says: We’ll give a reward of $50 for the best bug of the month. Have we been diligent about this reward? No, I can’t say that we’ve been super-diligent in doling out the reward. But at a primary level, 99% of the clients aren’t interested in the reward at all. They’re just interested in us fixing the problem. We have something similar in our membership site at 5000bc. The moment you get into the Cave (which is our forum) you are faced with a question thats says: What makes you unsafe in 5000bc? And even a casual glance at that post-—and it is a post in the forum—shows you that members have vented their feelings and there’s been an immediate response. When you get on an online course, like the information products course, you have an Ask Sean—again in the forum, as well as the ability to contact us at any point in time. But contacting us can be a little intimidating. It’s easier to ask the question in the Ask Sean post. When you examine the posts, you’ll find that clients aren’t always asking questions. They’re often giving a bit of feedback and mostly testing the waters. Is it safe to give feedback? When I answer the question, I’m always aware of everyone watching. When you treat one person with disdain (no matter what the issue) you create a factor of lack of safety. Without safety you’re not going to get feedback—not the feedback you’re looking for, at least. The clients aren’t exactly looking for rewards either. Those kids in the classroom weren’t getting any candy for their feedback. Their candy came in the form of change. Their opinions were valued and they were instantly rewarded with another draft. When they made suggestions, another draft showed up. They wanted to be heard, to see change. And this takes us to our second part: The implementation The Article Writing Course has been held since around the year 2006—and in the early years, we’d have three or four batches a year—now we have just one. This means we’ve had several hundred clients on this immersion course—and several hundred chunks of feedback. Why chunks? Because at the end of every course, we reserve a whole day—as part of the assignment—to get feedback. But why do clients give feedback? They do, because of the first reason: safety. They also want to make the course better—just like the kids in the classroom. The reward is the ability to be part of the change. It’s been almost 10 years. We should have stopped getting feedback by now, don’t you think? I mean how much feedback can you get on a course? And yet here is the highlight of last year’s feedback—in brief Action: Go over all the material and remove elements or testimonials that are confusing. Action: Go over the autoresponders and fix them. Action: Reconstruct the syllabus to move from learning components to actually writing complete articles. Action: The weeks that aren’t part of the main course need to be treated as “starters” or “dessert”. Action: Create Level 2 Course Action: Fix the notes. Action: I could, however, mention how the 55 minute club works—in the sales letter. Action: Be clear that the connectors are sub-heads and sign posting. Action: Review all instructions to make sure there’s no inconsistency. And consistent language. Action: Get writers to post their goals on the forum. Action: Syllabus goes first. Action: Feedback: What do they specifically look at? Action: Remove any connection to the 9-month course (Wiz Withers) Action: Tell participants in advance that there will be changes mid-stream. Action: Live call not needed. Action: Sean handles several projects at once. This is a perception and needs to be tackled. Action: No templates, checklists or worksheets (it would have been so helpful to have an article template in order to see the overall structure) Action: The materials we received weren’t linked to the weekly assignments Action: You’re not writing EVERY day. Action: There will be a 55-minute club at the end. And it will cost $87. Action: Have a day just for feedback. Action: Have reference material that sums up all of the different components of a great article Action: Show how to write shorter articles Action: Drop headlines from the course. Action: Put in all the elements that we don’t cover. Action: Make sure to ensure that there are only two methods I use to write articles. Action: Make sure there’s an introduction to the transcript and clients know it’s a transcript and not the notes. Action:The book by George Leonard titled Mastery: the Keys to Success and Long-Term Fulfillment (instead of Karate Kid) Action: For final feedback include a question about what was working, as well as improvements and what needed to be fixed Notice what you just read? It was an action list, based on a feedback list. The clients came up with this immense list of things to be fixed—and spelt it out in great detail. We then compiled the list, and put in the action plan to fix the elements that needed fixing. Almost as soon as the clients came up with the feedback, we demonstrated we were not just asking for feedback, but we were going to take action—and we wrote what action needs to be taken. The same applies to any feedback we get off the “what bugs me” You probably heard about Rosa, didn’t you? If you didn’t here’s the story. Rosa goes and buys a product off our website. It’s the “Dartboard Pricing” series and she loves it, but has something to say. She says I need to have the books in ePub. Now this is a tiny nightmare, isn’t it? Because while it’s relatively easy to transform books into ePub, our books are filled with cartoons and captions. Those cartoons and captions need specific coding and yes, the nightmare is revealing itself, isn’t it? But we got in touch with Rosa, said we’d work on it and then we posted Rosa’s feedback in the podcast. And shortly after, another podcast listener said he’d do the job (I’ll give you the link to this ePub genius at the end of this piece). So he set about the task of fixing the books—one by one—but first worked on Rosa’s request. This week, I wrote to Rosa and told her we had not only taken her seriously, but we were going to send out the PDFs and the ePub documents, so she could happily read on her tablet or phone. Do you think Rosa feels safe? Do you think she’s bound to give feedback again? Do you think she was rewarded, both by the initial response as well as the implementation? But what if you can’t implement something? Take for example, the courses we hold offline—at workshops such as the one in Amsterdam, or Vancouver or Nashville. The workshops are designed not t give you information, but to give you skill. Clients come up with all sorts of feedback, even during the workshop. At the storytelling workshop in Amsterdam, Ellen—one of the participants, suggested a walking group. “We walk in the Netherlands”, she said. Now, if you get to our workshop, you’ll notice you’re not in the room a lot. That’s because you learn the least in the room. We get groups to leave the room and sit by the pool, by the stair, in the lobby—just about anywhere they wish to sit and discuss the assignment they’ve been given. And yet, here was Ellen talking about “walking groups”. So we sent them off for a walk. And half of them took our advice, while half chose to sit instead. So yay, the feedback went like clockwork, but it’s not always so hunky-dory—this implementation bit—is it? And when you can’t change things, you head off the objections off at the pass. For instance, if you look at the feedback we got from the last course was “Sean is handling too many projects at once”. Now that’s like saying “fire is hot”. The reason you’re even reading this article is because I like to write articles, but I also like to paint, cook, take photos, dance, learn languages, mentor my niece—and take a nap in the afternoon (that’s a project too, you know). So what would you do with such feedback, especially when you know nothing is going to change? I mean I handle projects but then I know what to keep and what to drop. Yet, the perception may exist and a client that’s going through a rough patch may find an easy target—me—the guy with ten million projects. That client may not have any idea that I’m not dancing right now, or I’ve put my Japanese and photography on hold. They’re working off a supposition—their perception. And to make sure this problem doesn’t arise, we head it off at the pass. I bring it up early in the course, or the book, or the workshop. It’s on a slide, or in an introductory page, or somewhere it cannot be missed. And it needs to be repeated several times, so it sinks in, because not everyone sees or understands everything the first time around. If you cannot or will not implement something and you have your reasons for it, you need to be very clear why you’re avoiding that course of action. Rosa’s suggestions were doable, and we went ahead with the plan, but it’s also quite a task to convert every book on the site to ePub. If this were the case, and we couldn’t fix every PDF, we’d just have to head off the objection before the client bought the product. However, to get back on track—the implementation is what matters Implementation creates safety. Implementation tells your client that they matter. That their opinion is important. And if you can’t fix it, at least put out an action plan, so they can see that you’re hard at work. Then cross out the elements as we’re doing with this new Article Writing Course. Will we be 100% successful? No we won’t but we’ll keep at things until they get fixed. And then we’ll have another big list to go through. So we looked at safety and reward. Then we had a long dive into implementation and at least the need to communicate with the client; the importance of having an action plan. Which takes us to the third part: The specificity of your questions. Check back next week for Part 2 of The Secret of How To Get Clients To Keep Coming Back Repeatedly http://www.psychotactics.com/podcast/
