On Fresh is the Word, we like to deliver wisdom through great stories from the minds of bright creatives of pop culture. Through those stories, we like to dissect the journey of our guests and present actionable lessons and advice for our listeners no matter what career or avenue of artistry they pursue. The guests for this episode are comic book artist/illustrator Lisa Sterle and writer Matthew Erman. This husband and wife duo are co-creators of the series Long Lost, which has been optioned by writer Jenny Klein for development into a TV show. Sterle also is the co-creator of the comic series Submerged with writer Vita Ayala along with developing The Modern Witch Tarot Deck, a modern interpretation of the classic Rider-Waite tarot deck. Sterle's beautiful illustrations have been used for companies like Vault Comics, IDW, BOOM! Studios, and many others. Currently, Erman is working on an original graphic novel coming out in 2020 called Bonding with artist Emily Pearson, coming out through Vault Comics’ YA Imprint, Myriad. Also coming later this year via IDW is the Care Bears: Unlock the Magic series written by Erman along with writer Nadia Shammas with art by Agnes Garbowska. During our chat, we talked about the creation of Long Lost and the opportunities it created for them both, their goals on projects, Submerged, their upcoming projects, how they both deal with being a married couple that are both comic creators, the facets of collaboration, and much more. Each episode, the guest is asked to suggest someone from their life/career that should be on Fresh is the Word that would have good stories to tell. Sterle chose cartoonist and comics editor Christina ‘Steenz’ Stewart. Erman chose comic book artist Emily Pearson and comic book writer Nadia Shammas. It's a special recap episode of the Toronto Comic Arts Festival (TCAF)! Jimmy recorded this while still in Toronto and got cartoonist pals Adam Cadwell (The Everyday) and Marc Ellerby (Ellerbisms) to join in the fun! They give their thoughts on the show, the guests, the parties, panels and the drinking. OH THE DRINKING! Jimmy chatted with many at the show and you'll hear great interviews withJess Fink (We Can Fix It!), Monica Gallagher (Glitter Kiss), Agnes Garbowska (You, Me and Zombie), Lucy Knisley (Relish) and Renee Nault (Witchling). No news or reviews just lots of TCAF goodness! As always, listener feedback, Top 3 and more! Leave your iTunes comments! 5 stars and nothing but love! Thanks for listening!
