1:00 They discuss how government censorship, particularly in banning books, restricts access to knowledge and different perspectives, questioning why the government has the authority to control what information people can access or contemplate.5:00 Noor reflects on her opinion about the situation in the Middle East, acknowledging that her views are largely shaped by her upbringing in a Muslim household. They emphasize the impact of one's upbringing and environment on their perspective.8:00 They express admiration for opinionated individuals, highlighting the unique aspect of freedom of speech that allows people to express opinions even if they are poorly informed.12:00 They reflect on the importance of approaching discussions with a rational yet empathetic mindset, suggesting that emotions can be channeled into empathy. 15:00 They discuss the importance of free speech in society, emphasizing how it allows for collective interpretation and the exploration of diverse ideas. They draw parallels to dystopian novels like "1984," where control over speech leads to control over truth.18:00 They discuss the issue of generalization and its impact on hate crimes and highlight how generalizations about certain groups lead to unfair blame and prejudice against entire communities.20:00 They emphasize the importance of courage in freely expressing ideas and opinions, even if they may be wrong, and encourage a willingness to change one's mind. Alex suggests that being wrong is acceptable and that the goal is to reach a consensus or understanding, echoing themes of philosophical inquiry into truth.Support the Show.Twitter: @talkpopc Instagram: @talkpopc
2:00 They reflect on the notion of free speech in their personal life, noting that as Americans, they feel relatively unrestricted in their ability to express themselves. While they believe in the importance of free speech, they emphasize the need for understanding the potential repercussions of one's words.5:00 They highlight the issue of entitlement regarding free speech, particularly noting that disenfranchised communities and working-class individuals, especially people of color, often understand the consequences of their speech.7:00 They discuss John Stuart Mill's perspective on free speech, highlighting its virtues as outlined in Professor Schaun-Kirk's book. Alex questions whether these virtues of free speech remain intact when negative consequences, whether legal or social, are imposed on individuals expressing their opinions.10:00 They discuss how anti-capitalist sentiments may face legal repercussions, citing historical examples like the Red Scare. While acknowledging the potential harm of hate speech, they differentiate between harmful speech aimed at individuals and discourse challenging societal systems.12:00 They the permanence of statements made on the internet, using Kanye West as an example of someone whose controversial remarks, particularly those deemed anti-Semitic, have lasting consequences on his reputation.15:00 They discuss the complexities of social consequences resulting from freedom of speech, particularly in political discourse. While acknowledging the straightforward cases where individuals may choose to leave relationships due to racist beliefs or behavior, they express interest in instances where political disagreements lead to exclusion or shunning.18:00 They discuss the disparity between individuals' abilities to express themselves freely based on their social context. They suggest that while legal consequences for hate speech may be minimal, social repercussions can be significant, raising questions about the balance between allowing free expression and preventing harm caused by bullying or hate speech.22:00 They discuss the limitations of physical spaces for exchanging ideas, noting that public places like libraries often have restrictions. Also, they emphasize how individuals' exposure to different viewpoints online is influenced by algorithms, leading to a skewed understanding of free speech.26:00 Alex introduces philosopher Miranda Fricker's concept of epistemic injustice, which focuses on instances where injustices occur in how individuals are perceived as credible knowers or sources of knowledge. They explain that biases, whether conscious or unconscious, can lead people to view others as not credible sources of information based on their opposing viewpoints.30:00 They discuss the impact of social media and the internet on the dynamics of free speech, particularly among younger people. They highlight the potential limitations of free speech in online environments, questioning whether it fosters the same virtues as face-to-face conversations.33:00 They express concern about the divisive nature of American society, where individuals are often pitted against each other rather than working together to solve common problems. They advocate for a shift in societal mindset towards collaboration and problem-solving as a team, rather than viewing others as adversaries.Support the Show.Twitter: @talkpopc Instagram: @talkpopc
1:00 The conversation begins with a focus on free speech and censorship, prompting them to share their thoughts on whether these concepts are prevalent in society.5:00 They discuss the potential social consequences of expressing differing political views, particularly in the context of the 2016 presidential election.8:00 They discuss the concept of echo chambers in politics and social media, where individuals tend to surround themselves with like-minded individuals, reinforcing their own beliefs and ignoring opposing viewpoints.12:00 They explore the multifaceted nature of the conversation surrounding free speech, suggesting that it extends beyond just legal and moral rights to encompass social dynamics as well.14:00 They discuss how differing opinions, regardless of political affiliation, can lead to further division among people, and how this can inhibit open communication of ideas.16:00 They raise questions about whether our conception of free speech should adapt to different social contexts, noting that discussions about free speech often yield varied conclusions depending on the specific examples and social contexts considered.20:00 They discuss the limitations of the Socratic method in addressing the persistence of falsehoods and misconceptions over time. Alex suggests that societal beliefs may evolve through ongoing discourse and debate, leading to collective agreement on certain truths over time.24:00 They discuss the consequences of censorship -- the phenomenon of cancel culture, noting its evolution from holding individuals accountable to resembling the Salem witch trials, where minor actions could lead to a disproportionate backlash on social media.28:00 They explore the peculiar phenomenon of cancel culture, highlighting its dual nature. Alex questions the ethical implications of cancel culture and reflects on its damaging effects despite its origins in free speech.30:00 They discuss the concept of cancel culture as a form of social censorship rather than a legal one. Alex argues that cancel culture often denies individuals the opportunity to defend themselves or redeem their actions, thus hindering their ability to speak freely and engage in meaningful dialogue.Support the Show.Twitter: @talkpopc Instagram: @talkpopc
According to a new charging document that just came out of the New Jersey Attorney General's office, there has allegedly been some serious election fraud in the city of Paterson. Among other things, this document charges the current president of the Paterson City Council with running a criminal conspiracy in order to get himself elected.
Today's topics all fit within the context of whether you are ready to condemn or to condone. We just found out that aides close to President Zelenskyy of Ukraine admit that “people there are stealing like there's no tomorrow.” Why hasn't an Inspector General been assigned to Ukraine funding? Why is the Biden regime refusing to have an audit performed? The leader of Hamas has proclaimed that they want their own women, children and elderly to die in Gaza. Why? Because they know they can use those deaths to manipulate Leftists around the world. They will gain sympathy from the weak-minded and then there will be pressure put on Israel to stop. This must not happen. In the meantime, in the Little Dictators Club, also known as the United Nations, did you know Iran is set to chair the Human Rights Council Social Forum? The world's leading state sponsor of terror is going to chair discussions over human rights. The New Jersey Attorney General has charged a Democrat City Council President in Paterson, and his wife, for stealing mail-in ballots to rig the 2020 election. Alex Mendez and his wife were previously charged in 2021, but the new charges are a lot more serious. The charges include conspiracy to commit election fraud, forgery, falsifying records, and witness tampering. Yet we need to remember, the 2020 election was as perfect and as pure and the wind-driven snow. The National Archives now says they have pulled at least 82,000 pages of emails from Joe Biden's pseudonym email accounts he used while he was the Vice President. That dwarfs the 55,000 Hillary Clinton had on her own private server before she used Bleach Bit on it. The Oversight Committee is still plugging away at all of the “loans” that have been moving in and out of the accounts of the Biden Crime Family. As Jonathan Turley says, it's like that scene out of “It's a Wonderful Life,” when George Bailey has to explain that all the money in the bank is actually tied up in other people's houses. Only, in this case, it's all in the House of Biden. By the way, remember last week when Rep. James Comer sent that letter to ranking member Jamie Raskin, demanding he apologize for lying about the FBI 1023 form? Unsurprisingly, the new designated liar told Comer to pound sand. Don't they know lying is considered a resume enhancement for the Democrat party? In positive news, 9 governors have signed a letter to the NCAA asking them to protect women in sports. It's a great start, but it would be nice for more governors to get on board with making sure women only compete against other women. Joe Biden thinks he's been gone abroad for a long time. The reality is, he only spent one day abroad this entire month. Seem the more dementia settles in, the more he loses track of time. Governor Glenn Youngkin (R-VA) weighed-in on the EventBrite canceling Riley Gaines' event, yet continue to allow pro-Hamas, pro-Palestine, anti-Israel events to be booked. So, Youngkin canceled their account and will use someone else to schedule events. I then spend a few minutes discussion American Exceptionalism. I use the same seven core principles Speaker Mike Johnson discussed when he took over the gavel. I think it is something more Americans need to consider and understand before they choose which side of the aisle they prefer. Finally, I close with some comparisons of my generation, GenX to the younger ones. Maybe the reason we can deal with life so much better is we learned how to deal with adversity at a much younger age. It's something for parents with younger children to consider if you want to give them the tools for success. Take a moment to rate and review the show and then share the episode on social media. Taylor talks to The Athletic's Joe Lowery about his three favorite topics: the US U20 national team, the senior US mens national team, and Major League Soccer. The amount of knowledge in his brain is legitimately absurd. For the U20s, we focus on realistic expectations for an incredibly talented squad, who might start where, and whether or not Alex Mendez has the best left foot in the US player pool. After that, we take a look at some of the teams that are having strong seasons so far in Major League Soccer and some... that are not. We use the patented thumbs up/down method to get to the bottom of things, and also take a moment to sing the praises of Bob Bradley and DaMarcus Beasley. Lastly, there's some Gold Cup roster conversation. Who is Joe most excited to see and what's his preferred starting lineup if the US were to make it to the final.

Joey Anthone (aka @USAProspects) joined the pod to comb through the U-20 player pool and we didn’t stop. Who will be available for November qualifying? We projected that. What are the biggest challenges for Tab Ramos? We explained them. What are the areas of strength in the pool? We pointed them out. Who will be the 6? Who will be the 9? Who will be the centerbacks? Check, check, check. And then we each gave a 20-man roster and answered several listener questions. Carve out time over multiple days because you won’t be able to handle this in one sitting. 0:30 Intro 8:25 Who will be available for U-20 World Cup qualifying? (Adams, Sargent, Weah. Amon — no; Taitague, Soto, McKenzie, Carleton, Durkin — it’s complicated; Ledezma, Mendez, Llanez, Booth — probably) 58:20 Who will be the No. 6 if DC United makes a run and gets into the playoffs with Durkin at the 6? 1:09:30 Who will be Mark McKenzie’s centerback partner? 1:21:40 Who will be the striker? 1:31:25 Areas of strength in the pool: fullbacks and wingers 1:52:30 How many guys will play up an age group? 1:59:25 Efra Alvarez discussion 2:13:10 Belz and Anthone give their ideal/realistic rosters for November qualifying 2:28:00 listener questions (lots of good ones and lots of good answers from Joey) Get in touch with us. For our 91st episode I had the pleasure of speaking to diverse group of competitive gamers and personalities. We discussed the negative stigma associated with eSports and what steps are being taken to bring this very profitable side of gaming to the forefront. Our guests wereRoberto Bayde aka R0bskii- Roberto besides being a competitive gamer and now coach is also the mind behind R0bskiiTV on YouTube which spotlights tech and gaming. Rob shared a lot of personal insight into his gaming life and also announced that R0bskii TV will be undergoing some changes that gamers will appreciate.Alex Mendez aka Goldenboy- I had the privilege of meeting Alex during the DualShockers event and was impressed by his great color commentary skills during the gaming competition held at the event. Alex is also a competitive gamer and member of team Fear ProStephen Consentino- Stephen is a jack of all trades. Besides being the founder of Unveil NYC he is also a competitive gamer and captain of Team Unveil. Stephen was able to provide great insight into being a pro gamer but also the business side that is involved. Unveil NYC sponsors gamers and has an incredibly diverse profile with music, clothing being part of their brand. In speaking with all three of these guys I gained a greater understanding of eSports culture and the hard work that goes into competitive gaming. The incredible opportunities that present themselves to these guys is something many gamers would envy. Free gear, five and six figure payouts, sponsorships and of course recognition in gaming circles worldwide are definitely incentives to take your gaming to another level. Before speaking to these guys my understanding of eSports was limited and mostly negative due to some egocentric individuals I've come across that left a poor impression on me. I can proudly say I will support eSports as best as I can. I say this not only as a media outlet but as a gamer as well.If have any questions or are contemplating entering eSports I recommend you hit these guys up on twitter. They are friendly and are doing their part to make gaming better and more inviting for everyone.Roberto-@R0bskiiAlex-@GoldenboyFTWStephen-@Unveil_NYCIf you are a gaming and tech enthusiast make sure you check out R0bskiiTV as well.
