Do you know what the best part of this movie finally releasing is? I NEVER have to see the awful trailer for this movie in front of other films again! A Minecraft Movie has dropped in theaters worldwide and I had the immense "pleasure" of seeing it earlier today. Was it good? Well, what do you think? I definitely had a Minecraft phase when I was younger, but that was over ten years ago and I have not cared much for the game since then. I've always known that making a movie out of it is a dumb idea because the game doesn't exactly lend itself to narrative features. There's a reason there's only been ONE of these games. So, how did the film turn out? Find out in this review!A Minecraft Movie:Directed by: Jared HessScreenplay by: Chris Bowman & Hubbel Palmer and Neil Widener & Gavin James and Chris GalletaStory by: Allison Schroeder and Chris Bowman & Hubbel PalmerProduced by: Jon Berg, Cale Boyter, Vu Bui, Roy Lee, Jason Momoa, Mary Parent, Torfi Frans ÓlafssonExecutieve Producers: Jay Ashenfelter, Pete Chiappetta, Todd Hallowell, Andrew Lary, Brian Andrew Mendoza, Jon Spaihts, Anthony Tittanegro, Kayleen WaltersMusic by: Mark MothersbaughCinematography by: Enrique ChedlakEditing by: James ThomasCasting by: Rachel TennerProduction Design by: Grant MajorCostume Design by: Lucy McLay, Amanda NealeCast: Jason Momoa, Jack Black, Danielle Brooks, Emma Myers, Sebastian Eugene Hansen, Jennifer CoolidgeSynopsis: Four misfits find themselves struggling with ordinary problems when they are suddenly pulled through a mysterious portal into the Overworld: a bizarre, cubic wonderland that thrives on imagination. Christopher Robin screenwriter, Allison Schroeder talks about what it was like to go from pen to screen in allowing Disney's Christopher Robin to grow up and revisit the Hundred Acre Woods.
This week on BEHIND THE LENS we go back to The Hundred Acre Woods with some prerecorded exclusive interviews with JIM CUMMINGS, writer ALLISON SCHROEDER and costume designer JENNY BEAVAN. Not only is it Awards Season, but CHRISTOPHER ROBIN is available November 6, 2018, on Digital and Blu-ray. And we catch up with writer/director/actor JOSEPH CULP talking about his new film (and feature directorial debut) WELCOME TO THE MEN'S GROUP. Every film starts with a story and we start off the show with CHRISTOPHER ROBIN screenwriter ALLISON SCHROEDER. Listen as she talks about creating the story and balancing screen time among Winnie the Pooh, Tigger, Eeyore and the gang, as well as the dynamic between Christopher Robin and Pooh. Of course, once you have the words on the page, it's time to flesh out your characters through performance and there's no better man for that job than master voice actor JIM CUMMINGS who talks about voicing Pooh and Tigger and how these performances of the dynamic duo differ from those of the past 30 years. But then, you need a look. Luckily for Christopher Robin and Pooh that Academy Award-winning costume designer JENNY BEAVAN was on hand to develop period perfect looks for not only our furry friends but the humans milling about the film as well. Listen as she talks about director Marc Forster's vision in terms of the look of the film and how costume played into that, and how she works with costume houses to find just the right looks for characters, not to mention hand-knitting Pooh's signature red sweater. Then, take a listen to my conversation with JOSEPH CULP (son of acclaimed actor Robert Culp) as he talks about his feature directorial debut with WELCOME TO THE MEN'S GROUP. Writer/director/producer and one of the film's stars in an impeccable ensemble cast, Joseph goes in-depth about story development, casting, and the importance of this film in today's world. http://behindthelensonline.net http://eliasentertainmentnetwork.com
Mark Radulich and Robert Winfree discuss and review Disney's Christopher Robin film on Damn You Hollywood. Christopher Robin is a 2018 American fantasy comedy-drama film directed by Marc Forster and written by Alex Ross Perry and Allison Schroeder, from a story by Perry. The film is inspired by A. A. Milne and E. H. Shepard's book Winnie-the-Pooh[4] and is a live-action/CGI extension of the Disney franchise of the same name. The film stars Ewan McGregor as the titular character alongside Hayley Atwell, as well as the voices of Jim Cummings and Brad Garrett. The plot follows Christopher Robin as he has grown up and lost his sense of imagination, only to be reunited with his old stuffed bear friend, Winnie-the-Pooh.
This week How I Wrote that sat down with a trio of working writers who also work hard for their union. Elizabeth Martin & Lauren Hynek are a writing team responsible for the live action Mulan but they also serve as Co-Chairs of the Committee of Women Writers at the Writers Guild of America, West. They each offer solid advice on the business of screenwriting as well as the craft. Hynek says the benefit of writing as a team is a more cohesive script, “We would fight about a scene and then realize part of the reason we’re fighting about it is it was not supposed to be in the movie.” Alison Schroeder was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for Hidden Figures and is currently working on Christopher Robin. Her response to the idea of a writer’s ritual is simple: “I don’t miss deadlines. That’s my ritual.” Martin: “If we’re having trouble with something it’s because we’re not trying it from the right angle so we’ll just try it from another angle.” Lauren Hynek: “Once you get the job it’s only 10% writing. 90% is how you are in the room.” Alison Schroeder: “Pitching is an art form in and of itself and you have to learn how to do it fast, because you’re doing all this for free so you can’t let it consume all your time.”
The Roundtablers lift off into the Performance genre this week with the 2015 Oscar nominee Hidden Figures, which tells the story of three remarkable African-American women and their real-life achievements in the face of racism at NASA. The screenplay is by Allison Schroeder and Theodore Melfi, based on Margot Lee Shetterly’s book. This is a show dedicated to helping you become a better writer. Each week Story Grid Editors Jarie Bolander, Valerie Francis, Anne Hawley, Kim Kessler, and Leslie Watts analyze a film from one of the twelve Story Grid content genres and discuss it using the Editor’s Six Core Questions as developed by Shawn Coyne.
