The journey to veganism often begins with a deep-seated love for animals and the realization that our daily choices can impact their lives profoundly. During Episode 020 of the Veganpreneur REVOLUTION™ podcast, hosts @kathleengage and @vlynnhawkins talk with Bobby Sud, a filmmaker and photographer, who found his purpose in advocating for animals through the lens of love and empathy.   Early Life and Inspirations   Bobby's compassion for animals was evident from a young age. Growing up, he always had a strong connection to animals, a trait common among empathetic individuals. However, his journey into veganism and animal advocacy didn't begin until much later. Initially, Bobby pursued a degree in filmmaking, specializing in environmental filmmaking, yet he had not yet adopted a vegan lifestyle.   Health Transformation   It wasn't until Bobby's health spiraled out of control that he embraced a plant-based diet. Suffering from severe health issues, including obesity, diabetes, high cholesterol, and hypertension, Bobby decided to make a drastic change. With his twin brother's encouragement, within eight months of adopting a plant-based lifestyle, he lost over 100 pounds and reversed his chronic conditions. This transformation was pivotal, not only for his health but also for his burgeoning advocacy.   The Turning Point   The significant turning point in Bobby's journey occurred when he attended the SoCal VegFest in Orange County. Introduced to the concept of animal vigils by Jon Pierre (JP), Bobby attended his first pig vigil. This experience was a revelation. Standing inches away from a truck filled with 200 six-month-old piglets destined for slaughter, Bobby had a profound epiphany. He realized that, just like humans, these animals had only one life, and their suffering and individuality were undeniable.   Advocacy Through Filmmaking and Photography   Inspired by this experience, Bobby's path took a definitive turn towards animal advocacy. He began documenting animal vigils, capturing the stark reality of animal suffering through his lens. His talent as a filmmaker and photographer quickly gained recognition, leading to collaborations with notable figures like Shaun Monson and involvement in significant projects like "Generation Vegan."   LA Animal Save   Bobby's dedication didn't stop at documenting animal suffering. He became an active organizer for the Animal Save Movement, specifically LA Animal Save. Through his powerful photography, Bobby highlights the individuality of animals, transforming abstract numbers into poignant portraits. His work emphasizes that each animal is a sentient being, capable of suffering and deserving of compassion.   Emotional Resilience and Self-Care   Dealing with the emotional toll of witnessing and documenting such suffering is challenging. Bobby's approach is rooted in love rather than hate. He focuses on his love for animals and his desire to help them, finding solace in the positive impact of his work. This love-based activism helps him manage the emotional weight and stay committed to his cause. www.VeganVisibilityProductions.com/podcast/020-Bobby-Sud

Maria Cebrian is a three-time entrepreneur and with 14 years of experience in the digital and wellness industries. After selling her second company, she set out to build the most sustainable supplements on earth after learning about the impact of this industry on animals and the environment. Every year, the US supplement industry kills 24 billion animals and creates 1.8 billion plastic pill bottles. In 2016 Maria and her co-founder Hava Horowitz wanted to simplify and complete vegans' nutritional needs with sustainable and ethical supplements that have no impact on the planet. In this episode of Pivot, we speak to Maria, the co-founder and CEO of Terraseed, about her entrepreneurship journey and how the business became what it is today.Terraseed has partnered with the non-profit Animal Save Movement to make a petition to the FDA to implement more transparent regulations for supplement companies, which would mandate companies to disclose if their supplements contain animal byproducts. Terraseed has secured almost 5,000 signatures and is on a mission to gather 25,000 signatures to pass them along to the FDA.Maria shares what it takes to revolutionize an entire industry by transforming the way things are done to truly make an impact on the world.Get to know Maria and Terraseed better here: https://terraseed.com/ Quote I truly believe that a company or a startup is an extension of who we are…we are absolutely connected. I'm very spiritual in that way. My recommendation is that you build something that is 100% aligned with who you are, as a human being. Because if there's no alignment, when you start bumping into all these challenges and all issues, it's really hard. This is brutal, especially when you have a physical product. So if your business is not 100% aligned with you, and without a very clear mission that you can hold on to, is going to be very difficult.—Maria CebrianShow notes timestamps

"My journey to #veganism has led me to question everything." - Being told a cow is "beef"... "I was horrified". "You'll have to eat it or you'll die... we only eat the animals when they die of old age... no harm done." - Becoming #vegetarian then #vegan... breaking the brainwashing - #Punk, #hardcore & DIY "You can't go to a punk gig without coming hope with some pamphlets." AK: - Regan Russell's Anglican upbringing - "It wasn't difficult to move away from the [Catholic] world that I was living in" - Peace & conflict studies, environmentalism, animal ethics at university - "I was human centric... it didn't even occur to me to think about other animals" - "When I saw the [Animals] film... it completely changed my world-view... it became a core value for me" - #feminism & animal agriculture - Studying environmental thought: "Does a tree have standing, does the Grand Canyon matter?... it opened my world" - Going beyond sentience. Protecting trees for their own sake "Nature is incredible - it's such a gift... trees and this forest have rights in and of themselves - they're not just a utility to us or animals or sentients" - "Sentience is absolutely important" NH: - A human-centred upbringing but "my mum used to take me over to the animal rights stalls... sign the petitions against fox-hunting & fur..." - Family time in nature - "The Hidden Life of Trees" - "It's blown my mind... they work as a community... you want to protect them" - "I do absolutely extend my moral scope to the environment around us - we are all connected" ...and much more. How do you turn your actions as an individual into a global movement? How can we change the world by bearing witness? In this episode of Activist, we talk with the brilliant Anita Krajnc about how she created the Animal Save Movement and how by opening our eyes to the suffering around us, we can help to end it.   In 2010 Anita made a promise to a pig on a truck, that she would no longer turn away. From three vigils a week, a movement was founded that would become global. Our chat with Anita was both moving and inspiring. If you want to make a bigger impact for the animals, Anita shares some wonderful advice and paves the way to a brighter future for the animals, the planet and the people.   "We want to change the cultural norm so that people don't say anymore that "Oh I don't want to see slaughterhouse footage, it's depressing, it's terrible, I don't want to see that." That's not an answer. Even if it hurts you, even if it causes you trauma we need to share the incredible trauma that animals are suffering in order to change their plight. They suffer trauma from the day they're born until the day they die. All their life they're suffering trauma. They bear witness all their life. We're just breaking witness a tiny bit and it's so devastating because it's so awful what's happening, but we need to do this. if all of us do this, if a community does it instead of one person, then there's more power in it and the situation will change faster. So that's the reason you don't have one person bearing witness, you really need to encourage the entire community to bear witness, because that's what's going to change the world faster." - Anita Krajnc

Before prepping for todays interview I saw the Animal Save Movement as a global network of passionate animal rights activists committed to baring witness outside slaughterhouses with both the knowledge that transparency and truth is the biggest threat to animal agriculture. And also the hope that if slaughterhouse houses had glass walls (or at least an animal vigil at every slaughterhouse) then the world would be vegan. These statements are of course true, ... “Everybody has access to extraordinary choices.” - Paige Parsons Roache When her daughter decided to go vegan, Paige Parsons Roache couldn't have imagined how much her own diet and life would change. It started with education: reading books, listening to plant-based doctors, watching documentaries and trying vegan food from local restaurants. Pretty soon, Paige was experimenting with recipes and becoming a “chef in her own kitchen” for the first time in her life. After meeting Jane Velez-Mitchell at a vegan event, Paige found herself inspired to get more involved and more vocal about the plant-based cause. Documentaries like Cowspiracy and What the Health had opened her eyes to the environmental and social impacts of animal agriculture, and she became committed to helping end the suffering connected to the industry. “If I knowingly was contributing to the harm of another,” Paige says of her realization, “I knew I had to make the change.” Episode Highlights: Paige's background in the environmental movement, including what inspired her to go plant-based vegan Insights from Paige's journey from a “frozen food vegan” to someone who loves experimenting in the kitchen The importance of educating yourself about food, health and the environment How Jane Unchained/Unchained TV is advancing the vegan and plant-based movements through the resources they provide Easy ways to swap whole plant-based foods in place of animal products Caring for your body holistically, not just through what you eat How to minimize the environmental and social impacts of factory farming Paige's passion for the environment, health and animals shows in her words and actions. Through Jane Unchained, Clubhouse and other initiatives, she's inspiring and encouraging others to get educated about plant-based eating, make the switch away from animal products and take back power for health and wellbeing.
