Filmmaker and environmental activist Kip Andersen—best known for Cowspiracy, What the Health, and Seaspiracy—joins us for an eye-opening conversation on his latest documentary, Christspiracy. In this bold new film, Kip turns his lens to the intersection of faith, ethics, and sustainability, uncovering suppressed teachings, moral contradictions, and powerful truths that challenge modern consumption—from the food we eat to the clothes we wear.We explore the deeper philosophical and spiritual roots of sustainability, the real impact of fast fashion, the dangers of greenwashing, and the often-overlooked environmental consequences of animal agriculture and consumerism. If you've ever questioned how personal choices, religious traditions, and global systems are interconnected, this is a conversation you won't want to miss.
In this episode, Dan Richardson, actor, filmmaker, and passionate animal advocate, shares his inspiring journey into veganism and the making of his documentary, Food for Thought. He discusses the moment he realised the hypocrisy in advocating for animal welfare while still consuming animal products, and how his transition to veganism was both logical and liberating. Dan and Jim explore the documentary's unique approach—gentle, accessible, and non-judgmental—designed to engage non-vegans without the typical shock tactics. They also discuss the broader vegan movement, the criticisms from within the community, and the impact of films like Cowspiracy and What the Health. Dan shares heartwarming stories of people who changed their views after watching Food for Thought and the importance of encouraging progress rather than demanding perfection.Watch Food for Thought for free on YouTube: https://youtu.be/adue0xef8pY?si=vFXlX5N_Pgt1yobD

If you follow the world of cultivated meat, you probably know that a few companies have gotten historic regulatory approval and have sold some limited quantities of product both in the US and Singapore. But earlier this year, Meatly—a company founded only in 2021 and with just a few million British pounds in their pocket—succeeded in getting regulatory approval to start selling its cultivated chicken meat…in pet food. This was the first-ever European approval for a cultivated meat product, and the first-ever approval for such a product in the pet food space. And as someone with a dog who sadly makes his distaste for plant-based dog food very clear, I can assure you that I'm eager to see if my dog Eddie will enjoy Meatly's debut product. In this episode, I talk with Meatly CEO Owen Ensor about his journey from starting the company to now. We discuss the scale he's at, the cost structure of his product, the inclusion rates in pet food he anticipates, what stores he plans to sell in at first, how he'll fund the company, when he thinks cultivated meat may make a dent in total meat demand, and much more. It's a riveting conversation with someone making headlines across the alt-meat world. Will pet food be the gateway for cultivated meat's market entrance? You be the judge. Discussed in this episode Owen became vegan after watching Cowspiracy. Owen's chart showing the timeline to regulatory approval for various cultivated meat companies. Paul's essay on pet food's contribution to total meat demand. Bond is another company growing chicken protein for the pet market. You can see Paul's dog Eddie enjoying it here. Our past episodes with Jim Mellon from Agronomics and Mark Post from Mosa Meat. Owen recommends reading Good to Great. More about Owen Ensor Owen is the Founding CEO of Meatly. Since establishing Meatly in 2021, with only £3.5m in funding, it has become the first company in Europe to get regulatory approval for cultivated meat, developed industry-leading technical processes, and created the world's first cultivated pet food products. Before establishing Meatly, Owen started his career at the Management Consultancy company Bain and scaled one of the world's first insect protein facilities.

“Eu queria fazer algo que eu pudesse me orgulhar”, diz ele apaixonadamente. Paige Parsons Roache's path to veganism and activism was sparked by a series of significant life events, including the tragic loss of her brother and her daughter's choice to embrace a vegan lifestyle. During her appearance on the NHA Health Science Podcast hosted by Dr. Frank Sabatino, Paige recounted her journey and expressed her dedication to fostering a compassionate and eco-friendly way of life. As the Communications Director of Unchained TV and co-founder of Plant-based in the Burbz, she has become a prominent figure in the vegan movement. From Personal Loss to Advocacy Paige's brother's tragic death due to mental health issues sparked her interest in understanding the impact of diet on mental well-being. This personal tragedy, coupled with her daughter's early adoption of veganism, led Paige to explore the connections between food, health, and compassion. Her journey was further catalyzed by watching the documentary Cowspiracy, which highlighted the environmental impact of animal agriculture. This experience inspired her to fully embrace a vegan lifestyle and to advocate for environmental sustainability. Building a Vegan Media Presence As the Communications Director of Unchained TV, Paige has played a pivotal role in producing and promoting content that supports veganism and animal rights. Her work includes the development of the Amazon Prime show "New Day New Chef," which showcases plant-based cooking and lifestyle. Paige also co-hosts "Plant-based in the Burbz," a show that aims to make vegan cooking accessible and enjoyable for everyone. Through these platforms, she emphasizes the importance of collaboration and communication in promoting a vegan lifestyle. A Commitment to Compassion and Sustainability Paige's activism extends beyond the media, as she is deeply involved in various community initiatives, including food banks and education programs. She is a strong advocate for the Plant-Based Treaty, which seeks to promote plant-based food systems to combat climate change and improve public health. Paige's commitment to a cruelty-free lifestyle is evident in her choices, from her wardrobe to her personal care products, all of which are vegan and eco-friendly. The Power of Food and Mental Wellness Paige discussed the profound impact that a plant-based diet has had on her mental health. She highlighted how eliminating animal products from her diet significantly reduced her experience of dark days, replacing them with a more balanced emotional state. This personal testimony underscores the broader benefits of a vegan lifestyle, not only for physical health but also for mental well-being. www.HealthScience.org/095-Paige-Parsons-Roache
Welcome to another episode of The Keto Vegan Podcast! I'm your host, Rachel, and today we have an incredibly inspiring guest, Kate Galli. Kate is not only a dedicated personal trainer but also a passionate vegan health coach. Her journey to veganism is both compelling and enlightening, and I'm thrilled to share her story with you. Kate's transition to veganism has been a transformative journey. Starting as a vegetarian at 16, she spent years gradually moving towards a fully vegan lifestyle. For the past eight and a half years, Kate has embraced veganism wholeheartedly. This journey was profoundly influenced by her mother and Kate's unwavering love for animals, which began when she was a typical little girl who adored animals but, paradoxically, also ate them. A pivotal moment for Kate was when a friend pointed out, "If I eat an animal, that animal needs to die!" This simple yet powerful statement sparked a deep reflection in her. Kate realized she had been misled by marketing propaganda, which portrayed a false narrative of happy farm animals. She recalls with shame how she once consumed up to 21 free-range organic egg whites a day, believing it was a humane choice. The turning point came when Kate watched the documentary "Cowspiracy." It was then she understood that if she was vegetarian for the animals, she had to be vegan for the animals. Despite her fears of losing the muscular physique she had sculpted over two decades, Kate chose to prioritize her integrity and the well-being of animals over her vanity. And spoiler alert—only good things happened! Throughout her journey, Kate's core emotional states of freedom, integrity, and passion have driven her. As a personal trainer, she emphasizes the importance of clarity in one's goals and the intense emotional connection to the "why" behind those goals. Kate's story is a testament to the power of aligning one's actions with their deepest values and the profound positive impact it can have. Join us as we dive deeper into Kate Galli's inspiring journey to veganism, her dedication to animal rights, and her passion for helping others achieve their health and fitness goals through a compassionate lifestyle. This is an episode you won't want to miss! Best Moments “I was that typical little girl that loved animals and ate animals” When Kate was 16 a friend said to her: “If I eat an animal that animal needs to die!” “I'd been lied to. I believed the marketing propaganda ‘nothing to see here, our cows are happy, our chickens are happy'. I bought free range organic eggs, I'm ashamed to say I ate up to 21 free range organic egg whites a day!” “The documentary was Cowspiracy, I had no choice! I realised if I was vegetarian for the animals I must be vegan for the animals.” I was fearful, I thought this body I'd sculpted over two decades … I thought I'm going to lose muscle, I'm going to gain fat, I'm going to get all weak. But it's about more than my vanity, so I became vegan. Spoiler it's only good stuff that happens” The personal trainer in me always goes back to getting really clear on what your goal is, and the why of your goal, and the huge emotional intensity attached to that ‘why'. A decade after the release of the 2014 award-winning documentary Cowspiracy, filmmakers Kip Anderson and Keegan Kuhn come together with Atlanta animal activists and scholars in a webinar on May 21st 2024 to discuss the impact of the film and the status/progress/strategies of the vegan movement today. Facilitated by host Dr. Natalie Khazaal, a critical animal studies scholar and Associate Professor at Georgia Tech (the webinar was funded by a grant from her department, the School of Modern Languages), this 57-minute webinar allows the filmmakers to answer questions from GA Tech students and Atlanta animal activists (including me, In Tune to Nature host Carrie Freeman) where we discuss: which few environmental orgs actually have the integrity to campaign to reduce or replace animal ag, knowing its immense environmental destructiveness (shout out to the Center for Biological Diversity and the Western Watershed Project); the pros and cons of lab-grown/cultivated meats (esp. good for pet food); the need to campaign against animal ag subsidies and regenerative ag/holistic grazing myths and for divestment from animal ag; and how best to persuasively connect with people, such as using ethical/animal rights messages, and bypassing cognitive dissonance in favor of carnism/meat-eating. We also mention other impactful animal/food documentaries, as Kip and Keegan run AUM (Animals United Movement) Film and Media company https://www.aumfilms.org/ , a nonprofit that produces provocative full-length films inspiring healthy coexistence, such as Seaspiracy, What the Health, and the End of Medicine. Christpiracy is the latest film, which addresses spiritual/ethical and religious tenets in support of abstaining from farming/eating other animals. For studies I have published in the Environmental Communication journal analyzing environmental organizations' campaigns related to animal ag and commercial fishing and the need for greater critiques, see Take Extinction Off Your Plate (2022) and Meat's Place on the Campaign Menu (2010). Both found on my open-access site https://works.bepress.com/carrie_freeman/ In Tune to Nature is a weekly show airing on Wednesdays from 6:30-7pm EST on Atlanta indie station WRFG (Radio Free Georgia) 89.3FM hosted by Carrie Freeman or Melody Paris. Please consider donating to support this 50plus-year old independent, progressive Atlanta radio station at www.wrfg.org Note: I edited the original webinar to fit the radio format to be under an hour. The makers of Seaspiracy and Cowspiracy are back. Christspiracy is another profoundly disturbing film detailing the industrial abuse of our animal kin. Expect more horrific carelessness and exploitation on a mass scale. Only this time, Kip Andersen and Kameron Waters not only go global but look back in time. “This is plausibly the most significant new discovery about Jesus Christ, in the last 2,000 years,” says the blurb. But can that be right? Has justified outrage at the treatment of our fellow creatures got the better of them? Initially, I wasn't convinced. But then Kameron Waters reached out to me and we had this long conversation.See what you think. What started with the question, “Is there a spiritual way to kill an animal?” has become the newest investigative documentary from Kip Anderson, of Cowspiracy fame, and Kam Waters. Join the journey to discover why so many religions who hold compassion as a sacred tenet turn a blind eye to animal suffering. ABOUT OUR GUESTS Kip Andersen has changed…
A look back at a classic episode of The Bloody Vegans Podcast you may have missed first time round. A groundbreaking new documentary, They're Trying to Kill Us, features notable leaders and influencers from the fields of Hip Hop, medicine, sports, entertainment, policy, and politics weighing in on the singular most deadly threat to American society. ABOUT THE FILM Co-directors John Lewis and Keegan Kuhn have teamed up to tell the untold story of the intersections of diet, disease, poverty, institutional racism, food deserts, government corruption and collusion with Big Food and the pharmaceutical industry. The film follows John from his upbringing in Ferguson, Missouri as he crisscrosses the country seeking answers from experts as to why Americans of Color are getting sick and dying from chronic diseases at often twice the rate of white Americans. Along the way he speaks with Hip Hop artists and celebrities of Color who share their own, deeply personal experiences with how the historically poor diets that have been inflicted upon their community have led to a staggeringly high rate of diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease. CAST The film was co-directed by Keegan Kuhn (What The Health, Cowspiracy) and John Lewis (aka “Badass Vegan”) and features interviews with Hip Hop artists, celebrities and medical professionals such as Ne-Yo, Mya, Dame Dash, Cedric The Entertainer, Maggie Q, New York City Mayoral candidate Eric Adams, and Dr's Milton Mills and Neal Barnard. They're Trying to Kill Us also features exclusive interviews with NBA All-Star Chris Paul and multiple Grammy Award Winner Billie Eilish, who are both Executive Producers on the film. RELEASE DETAILS Eschewing a conventional release plan, They're Trying to Kill Us will be released at 11am EST on November 11 exclusively on the film's website https://www.theyretryingtokillus.com/. The price to download the film is $20. Seeking a more efficient and equitable way to release the movie, the filmmakers are launching what they are calling a “Cooperative Release” of the film, giving participants in the documentary, supporters, and select influencers their own unique URL to the film's purchase page and splitting the profits 50/50 for the first week of release. On the filmmakers' side, they are giving their first $1,000,000 dollars raised directly to charity. ABOUT THE PRODUCERS JOHN LEWIS: Widely known by his social media handle, “Badass Vegan”, John Lewis is notorious for stoking conversations and debate with his critical views and memes on current issues. John has a large social media following and is a much sought-after public speaker and social and health activist who is accustomed to saying what's on his mind. In doing so, audiences have responded to his fresh and unfiltered take on social issues. KEEGAN KUHN: Co-director Keegan Kuhn is best known as the director behind the camera for the award-winning and hugely influential films on Netflix, Cowspiracy (executive produced by Leonardo DiCaprio) and What The Health (executive produced by Joaquin Phoenix).

After this interview, I promise you'll want to load up the family and head east to Providence, Rhode Island! Over eight years ago now, Kim Anderson and her family watched “Forks Over Knives” and “Cowspiracy” and felt an IMMEDIATE responsibility to educate others and inspire change. They hosted movie nights and dinners where hundreds would come to enjoy a delicious plant-based meal, but the refrain they kept hearing was, “It's a shame I can't eat my values and my health when I go out to eat.” There just weren't many plant-based options. That changed when Kim and her family opened Plant City, the world's first plant-based food hall and marketplace in the heart of Providence, Rhode Island. Packed with multiple restaurants (including Mexican, sushi, Italian, and burgers), Plant City also features a bakery, coffee shop, and a vast community space packed with monthly educational programs and cooking classes.Today, she and Rip discuss:The genesis and inspiration behind Plant CityHer personal journey to plants, inspired by her son How this experienced entrepreneur with no restaurant experience brought her vision to life with internationally acclaimed chef, Matthew KenneyThe unique environment and worldly flavors they bring in each of the restaurantsTransformations of guests who visit since most are not plant-basedHow Plant-City, which opened in the fall of 2019, adapted the business to survive the pandemicHow Kim continues to educate students at area universities about the impact of climate change, animal agriculture, and sustainabilityKim and her family's mission is to invest in companies for a more sustainable and humane future and you'll hear that unrelenting passion in today's conversation. She was inspired by "The Game Changers," but she, too, is a true game changer. https://plantstrongfoods.com/ https://plantstrongfoods.com/pages/2023-sedona-retreat https://plantstrongfoods.com/pages/plant-stock-landing-page-2023 https://www.facebook.com/GoPlantstrong https://www.instagram.com/goplantstrong/https://home.mealplanner.plantstrong.com/ https://app.soundstripe.com/songs/10845

"I value enriching relationships in my life. Long walks and deep conversations with friends about the real things that matter bring me joy." "I feel loved when I connect to a human being, whether it's someone I'm really close to or a stranger. Those moments of deep connection give me hope for the future." There are times when going to the doctor will save your life. There are also times when going to the doctor will kill you because medical care is the third or fourth leading cause of death in America. - Glen MerzerMy very special guest for this episode is Glen Merzer, and I cannot wait for you to receive his empowering message around our personal health and the health and future of this planet. We begin with his backstory, which I find super interesting given that he was an award-winning playwright who ended up in Hollywood writing for network television including the show Blossom (which for me is quite nostalgic). We cover the deaths in his family that prompted him to become a vegetarian at an early age, and the discovery that paved the path to his passion for sustainability and improving the health of the Planet.Glen talks about his book, Own Your Health, and how he weaves in fun and fascinating stories from his personal life, including how his dad saved his mother's life by telling her to listen to Glen's advice about what to eat.We cover the climate crisis and Glen's book, Food is Climate, including the discrepancies between the story we've been told and the reality when it comes to both the causes and the solutions for the climate crisis. Glen says, “A lot of what the problem is arrogance” because we really “don't know how close we are to the tipping point.”We talk about how there's been a lot of ridicule about documentaries Cowspiracy because of the statistics cited. Glen brings clarity around accounting for the extreme discrepancies in statistics out there about how responsible animal agriculture is for climate chaos. And although it can be difficult to feel hopeful when there are so many unknowns and there are still so many people who seem ambivalent, Glen leads by example with his ability to stay positive and motivated to continue his work, even when progress appears slow.VIEW THE FULL SHOW NOTES AND GUEST BIO & LINKS HERE ---------------------------------------SPONSORED BY22REBOOT - The most comprehensive 22-day lifestyle transformation system designed for driven individuals and high-performing entrepreneurs, professionals, and leaders who are making waves with their work, while neglecting the one asset they can't afford to lose… their health. Almost 6% of Americans Are Vegans, i.e., 9.7 Million. (The Guardian) In 2014, the statistic was 1%. This 500% increase speaks to the fact that people in the US are doing more than just talking about veganism, says The World Animal Foundation. For Scott Burgett he helps vegans lose up to 20 lbs in four months without crazy restrictive diets. He's the founder of Evolution Vegan Academy. An online coaching program that helps vegans lose up to 20 lbs in four months using his M3 Fit System. He is a CSCS and Precision Nutrition Level 1 certified coach and has trained both professional and collegiate athletes. Living in Austin with his wife, dog, and son, Scott's mission is to help create vegans leaders in his community so they can spread their impact throughout generations. Rewind back to 2013. I'm fresh out of college, moved back to Arizona from Washington state, and starting in the world of working for myself. I graduated with a degree in Exercise Science and wanted to become a professional strength coach in the NFL. I played football my whole life, through college, and felt that was my calling. To help athletes perform at high levels. After working a couple of odd jobs right out of school, I landed a small role as a performance coach for the Seattle Mariners baseball team. And during that time, I was first exposed to plant-based eating after watching a documentary in 2014. At the time, I didn't think anything much other than, “that seems interesting, but it's not for me.” A year goes by and I realize that I felt unfulfilled in my personal life. Working in professional sports was fun but also exhausting, with very little pay. So I decided to switch gears and landed a job at a bank as a Wellness Administrator in San Antonio, TX. My girlfriend at the time and I picked up our life and hauled our things across half the country to Texas. During my time at this job, I really started taking a greater interest in health and documentaries started to become really popular on Netflix. In particular, docs about plant-based eating and veganism. I started to take more of a liking to them because I resonated with the message: take care of yourself, the planet and the animals. It was April of 2016, and I started to experiment more with plant-based eating. I'd pack a mason jar salad for my lunch at work but started to swap my chicken for chickpeas. I'd start small at just one meal for a couple of weeks, then two, and so on and so forth until all meals were plant-based. Then my dinners became more plant-based and so did my breakfast choices. I felt great and was having a lot of fun with this new way of eating. And during one night I'll never forget in January 2017, my wife and I were watching the critically acclaimed documentary Cowspiracy. I remember vividly I was washing the dishes in our two-bedroom apartment, my wife Cally was on the couch, and the scene came on the TV that showed the fate of baby male chickens. He joined me this week to tell me more. Instagram: @coachscottyb_ Facebook: @Scott Burgett
