SAQIB (USA) Saqib is a guitarist, electronic music producer, and dancefloor instigator based in Brooklyn, NY. Since 2013 he has put out a steady stream of releases on Abracadabra, Flying Circus, Sol Selectas, Maccabi House, Kamai Music, and other notable electronic music labels. He also recently started his own imprint, Beats On Time now known for #1 charting tracks on Beatport. In 2021 he was named one of 1001 Tracklists' top 100 music producers to look out for. His musical background started as a teenager playing guitar and bass in heavy metal bands, and you can hear this influence in his productions and DJ sets. He moved on to take courses in sound design and music production at Point Blank Music Academy, School of Audio Engineering NYC, Dubspot NYC, and Rutgers University. His notable recent dance floor appearances include Electric Zoo Festival, Cityfox at The Brooklyn Mirage, Abracadabra Miami as well as the upcoming Abracadabra NYC(2024), Monkey Loft Seattle for an open-to-close set which is on the horizon for the 2024 season too. Saqib's upcoming releases include Desert Hearts Black, an EP called ‘Timing' in collaboration with Aquarius Heaven, and SAREGAMA records edits of widely famous songs.

He performs in a mask as in Peru, when shamans make a ritual and go to a different reality, they put masks on. These masks reflect who they are and because of that, spirits recognise you as one of them. You also see coins on his hat because when you go to the world of spirits, you give these coins to them as a gift. Aiwaska is also doing an NFT project and series of events “Aiwaska Planet”. Within the framework of this project, he creates a movement of people who want to help the planet and the environment, and makes events which include elements of an immersive show and where the NFT part of the money is raised from. The sales from these events he donates to wild animals and the environment. He has a global fanbase and has performed at many established venues such as Burning Man Festival, Tulum, Ibiza and more. Since 2015, Bloodymery is Florence's "Tropical Animals" resident DJ and co-founder of Sainte-Cécile Techno Party. Massimiliano Pagliara, Mattia Trani, Aurora Halal, Fango, Vladimir Ivkovic, ADIEL, Dj Red, Borrowed Identity, Aquarius Heaven and Avalon Emerson are just a small part of the artists with whom he has been working recently. Always taking on a tireless musical research on Techno, Ambient, Drone and Downtempo records, he has now become a point person in his city, Florence. He is now a student in Roma Sound Design school, where he is completing his Sound Engineering, Sound Design and Analog Synthesizer Programming studies, being taught by Enrico Cosimi (one of the leading international experts in Sound Synthesis, musician, composer and beta-tester) and Francesco Bonomo (M.A. in Sound Engineering's main Lecturer in Rome's Tor Vergata University). His debut EP is now being recorded in Rome's Mooger Studio. Welcome to this week's edition of Subterranean Homesick Grooves™, a weekly electronica-based radio show presented originally on CHMA FM 106.9 at Mount Allison University in Atlantic Canada (but expanded to distribution on other terrestrial and internet-based radio stations), and also distributed as a global podcast through iTunes. The show is normally programmed and mixed by Jonathan Clark (as DJ Bolivia), although some weeks very occasionally feature guest mixes by other Canadian DJ's. The show encompasses many sub-genres within the realm of electronic dance music, but the main focus is definitely on tech-house and techno, and a small amount of progressive, trance, & minimal. Due to the mix of styles, you may hear combinations of tracks that wouldn't normally be featured together in a DJ's live set, but this show is intended to feature various styles of electronic/dance music. I pay a lot of attention to the programming, and to the development of energy levels. If you're a first-time listener, you might think that the start of the show is quite tame, on the slower and "deeper" side of house or techno. However, give it time. Pay attention to how the styles change throughout the mix, and how the energy builds. Sometimes, I'll be very erratic and jump around between several genres, just for fun. Sometimes, I'll do a particularly dark show, with a heavy emphasis on techno. Most of the time however, you'll find a mix of mostly deep house or minimal or deep techno for the first third of the mix, building into a more upbeat section of tech-house through the middle, perhaps building up to some energetic tracks at the end, which often trespass into the realm of more contemporary house. Don't treat the show as a collection of individual tracks ... think of it as a cohesive experience; an hour-long aural journey of reflection and beats. Aquarius Heaven, born Brian Brewster, is an ex reggae dance-hall and hip hop singer. It was pure chance that Brian became involved with the electronic music scene after he moved to Paris in 2005, where he meet the Parisian electronic music trio dOP, and his musical sound was profoundly changed. Yet, we can still hear the colours of the Caribbean in his vocals, unbound by the old rehashed sounds and limitations of the electronic music scene. All of this creates for a very interesting musical ride. Check out this exclusive mix he whipped up for us ahead of his date next month.
