The Kings had a bit of a throwback Beam Team performance against the Suns in the G1C. In a season where it feels that all too often the Kings play to their opponent's style, the Kings played textbook Beam Team basketball where they play at a breakneck pace and overwhelm the opponent on offense. The Suns on the 2nd night of a back to back simply couldn't keep up but were able to stay in it by getting 19 offensive rebounds and capitalizing off the King's bonehead turnovers. But ultimately they just couldn't keep up with the Kings and the home team ran away with this one. It's good to see the Kings wake up a bit on offense and here's to hoping this is the first sign of them breaking out of their offensive funk. “First game back home after a long trip no matter how good you are or your opponent is, almost always is a challenging one.” Former Kings trainer, Pete Youngman, has posted this many times over the years on the timeline. I'm inclined to believe an NBA trainer with more than two decades of experience when it comes to these matters. The Kings with a few days of rest and practice at home played one of their best games of the season against a slightly short-handed Denver Nuggets team. Fong thought the loss against the Rockets on Saturday was the worst Kings loss he had ever seen. Ooooo boy he had no idea what was in store just 48 hours later as the Kings get demolish by the Rockets again. But not only did the Rockets beat the Kings and beat them badly, they also broke the King's spirit. They stopped running their offense, they stopped pushing the pace and doing the things that made the Kings the best story in the league last year. Mike Brown in the press conference talked about this team facing adversity early on this season and believing that this will make them a better team in the long run. Whether that will be the case remains to be seen, but the Kings have a lot reflection to do after these 2 stinkers. Deuce and Mo were hosted a NIGHT CHAT to reflect on the season, what the Kings said during exit interviews and they talked to a TON of fans around the world about their emotions with the season and how it ended.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
In this episode of The Royal Report I recap what went wrong and what went right for the Kings in their series against the Warriors.
Deuce and Mo reflect on what went wrong for the Kings in their game 7 loss, Steph's magical game, the highs and lows of the series, the Kings shooting numbers in the series, what Kerr and Draymond had to say about the Kings future and they reflect back on what was a magical ride for Sacramento.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
It was do or die time, the battle tested Warriors against the young upstart Kings in the most high intensity battleground of them all, a Game 7. It was a battle in the 1st half, both teams were trading shots back and forth with the Kings coming out with the slightest of advantages. The game was up for grabs and it was a matter who was going to take it in the 2nd half. Well ... it was the Warriors, as they grabbed 13 offensive rebounds in the 3rd quarter alone and took control of the game. Kevon Looney grabbed what felt like every single offensive rebound as the Sabonis and the Kings were helpless to stop him. This then allowed Curry, who was already having a great game to impose his will on the Kings and crushed their hopes and dreams of getting to the 2nd round. It is a crushing loss for the Kings but the fans showed their appreciation to the team for what has been a truly incredible season for the Beam Team. This was a very close series and there is no shame in losing to the defending champions in a Game 7. Now it's onto the offseason and the future for the Kings, can they build off this season's success and the experience they gained during this series? What moves will they make in the draft and the offseason to bolster their roster? How will they handle the impending free agency of Harrison Barnes, Terence Davis, Trey Lyles and Alex Len? Whatever happens, Kings fans can look back fondly on what was a truly magical season for this franchise, a season that was desperately needed for a tortured fanbase. The future looks to be bright and fans can finally have something tangible to look forward to. A disappointing loss for the Kings, who came into the game with all the momentum, with the added bonus of Draymond and GPII out for the game. It was a golden opportunity to really step on the defending champ's throats and to end the series early. But it was not to be, the Kings shot 38% for the game and 24% from 3, they never found their offense and despite playing pretty well on defense, their lack of shotmaking doomed them. But besides the scoring, the Kings just didn't play with a sense of urgency and attention to detail, turning the ball over a bunch and not securing rebounds. In contrast, the Warriors played with a clear sense of urgency and desperation, they got to what felt like every loose ball and gobbled up 19 offensive rebounds, each one more soul killing than the last. They wanted it more than the Kings. That in addition to the great defense they played dictated the pace of the game and the Kings were never able to turn the tables. Game 4 is big for the Kings, will they come out with the right sense of urgency? Will shots begin to fall for them? Is there an adjustment Mike Brown is going to make? How will the return of Draymond and possibly GPII change things? It feels like it's a must win game for both teams. In other news regarding the Kings, in addition to being a part of the playoffs this season, they also are taking part in awards this season as De'Aaron Fox takes home the NBA Clutch Player of the Year Award while Mike Brown win the NBA Coach of the Year award, the first coach to win it with the unanimous vote. Another feather in the cap for the Beam Team and what has been the greatest story in the NBA this year.
